Disappointing service! My mom has been getting her hair cut by Cecila for over 30 years, so when I needed my grays covered I decided to make an appointment. Was quoted $80 over the phone. When I arrive the price raises to $120. because, (I quote Cecilia) "$80 is to cover they grey hair in the front. If you want the new growth covered on your entire head it's $120." Who quotes half a head?? Then when it's time to start brushing my natural hair out before the dye process she brushes 1/3 of one section of hair, goes to another customer, comes back and says she's done and will now start the dye process. I ask what about brushing out the rest of my hair and Cecilia says it's not necessary. After the dye process when it's time to detangle my natural hair she pulls at it exactly twice telling me she is "finger detangling." I guess since a) I have natural hair and b) I was not getting my hair styled, Cecilia could not be bothered with doing any actual detangling. As a result, I spend 90 MINUTES detangling my completely matted hair when I get home because it has been dyed, placed under the dryer, washed and placed under the dryer again and not detangled even ONCE by Cecilia during this entire process. Two days later I notice entire sections of my hair are still grey. I contact Cecilia, she asks me to send her pictures and I do. She apologizes profusely and says I can come back in and she will cover the greys. If she had done the job properly in the first place and combed my hair out, I would not have to take time out of my day and go back. read more

I will no longer be going back to this salon. I really loved this salon, but my last experience was horrible. I made an appointment at a certain time, the stylist tells me that she had an appointment two hours later after my time. What I wanted was going to take two hours to do so no big deal, I called to tell her I would be running about twenty minutes late, when I got there she was styling her later appointment, I waited an additional hour till she was done styling the later appointment, she started my hair and an hour a half later not finishing my hair, tells me that she has to finish the other clients hair, confused and annoyed I went back to the seating area and told her I need to be somewhere at a specific time and her replied was it wouldn't be a problem. an hour and forty five minutes later, I was late to my engagement. The stylist gave my time to her later appointment, then she went back and forth between us, and made me late to what I had do .She apologize and took fifty dollars off the bill, but it was too late, the damage was done. I left and never plan to go back. My time is precious and what's the point of making an appointment if I'm going to be service during my time? all in all what takes two hours turned into six hours, due to the stylist greed. The owner Cecilia is an accomplished, expert when it comes to haircare and she values customers and your business She is a well respected hair specialist that caters to the natural, relaxed, weaves and has a line of wigs. She is versatile in skill and has a variety of products for the various types of hair styles and conditions. The salon is full service and she values customer service. I have been going to this salon for over 10 years and it is simply the best. My stylist Jasmin (Jazzy) just knows how to make you feel special. She works with me when I have 1 hour or 3 hours and knows how to care for hair. Teaching me the proper way to style my hair and never loosing patience. You can not beat the location for a quick wash & blow at lunch or a deep condition after work. If you look at my other reviews you will see - I am a tough customer. I had an appointment for a color and cut...wasn't sure exactly what I wanted to do in the visit but my stylist, Cecilia was very patient and gave me options and advice on my hair and it's texture. Once I was done I was really pleased with the results. Everyone from the workers to clients were very warm and friendly. Cecelia is a good stylist and a gentile person, but clearly not a colorist and should leave that to someone more experienced in her shop. She also will overcharge for mediocre service without thinking twice, and expect you to go along with it as if you didn't know any better. I went once for a color rinse and a trim: $135. Unheard of, but I didn't say anything, not even when she needed two attempts to get my color right. By the following week the color rinse clearly hadn't taken (in spite of two attempts to get it right) -- but I was silly enough to go back, this time for a wash and set, because I really like Cecilia's precision styling. On the phone I was quoted $55 -- the normal price in NYC. The assistant washed my hair x3 and put me in a plastic cap to sit and wait while she worked on someone else. She rinsed me and Cecilia styled my hair -- and charged me $88. When I told her I was quoted $55 on the phone she said, "You got a conditioner". In spite of my being dumbfounded and taken aback she made no attempt to resolve the matter, went back to work. I left but won't ever go back. What kind of conditioner, that I did not request, jacks up the price by $30??? Standard practice it to give the service your clients asks for rather than add on anything by your own discretion and charge for it later. I've been professionally affiliated with two premiere Manhattan salons for many years and never been charged prices like these, without explanation, and have received better results. I wanted to love going to Salon Cecilia, and I wanted to support the business by recommending it to my friends and three sisters who just lost their stylist; but I cannot without telling this precautionary tale. If you go for the styling or to see another stylist there, be sure you're going to be charged what you are quoted, and be sure the price is reasonable compared to other places. read more
