Been trying to find a place to teach me how to do wash n gos. I had Crystal as my stylist. I was hesitant at first cause she doesn't have my hair texture and I've unfortunately encountered horrible treatment when stylists don't understand my texture. However I was pleasantly surprised how warm she was and loved my result. She did talk to me throughout the process so I can know what products she's using and how to style it. She made sure to hold a mirror up and taught me how to use the product in my hair. Unfortunately wash n gos aren't easy hairstyles on kinky hair. But I loved my result and plan to come back again. Cant believe I haven't reviewed the Candace Witherspoon salon until now. I've told so many people about this place and have even bought my mom and my boyfriend. I love Melissa... she's one of the two stylists at this black Woman owned business. She is patient, kind, and extremely transparent about how she styles your hair and what she uses. She takes her time and tends to every curl and I have a lot of hair ( check my profile pic). Melissa will also let me pester her to death about wash and gos. She's great. This salon offers a premium experience. The space is clean and quiet. The stylists are professional and they are working on your hair at every stage. LOVE LOVE LOOOOVE CANDACE! Such an amazingly sweet stylist. Like she really 5,6,7, ATE on my cut and style. She made me feel confident to wear a wash N go, because I struggle doing it on my own. She was extremely knowledgeable in all things hair care, she taught me about my hair, and products that would and would not work for it. I would 1000% recommend any and all to Candace, like that's just how talented of a stylist she is. My Wash N Go lasted for about 5 days, which is amazing! I say that to say whenever I've tried my own Wash N Go I get about 1-2 days and then it's shriveled up to neck. Overal, Candace is the bees knees, and I cannot recommend her enough. She gives that NY vibe sprinkled with grace, and comfort. I appreciated my visit, and her being my stylist. (I also drove from VA, and will be doing it again for my next apportionment). I waited two weeks before leaving a review to make sure I wasn't caught up in the moment, but it was an amazing experience. Beyond it being a black-owned salon the vibe was everything. Candace was super sweet and so was Jen her assistant. The salon is quite small but that's okay. You come in and wash your hands and then wait until your appointment. My cut was exactly what I wanted and my color was super close to the picture I provided. Updated: added another picture as requested by salon. Parking was an FYI not negative towards the salon. My review still stands. Heat damage was on relaxed hair which i wanted to get rid of. I did not use heat on new growth. Asked for something and ended up doing it myself... Experience: I started transitioning from relaxed to natural last October. In December it had been over a year since I had relaxed or applied any heat to my hair. I wanted to shed the straight relaxed hair as I wanted to start playing around with hairstyles and tools on my natural curly textured hair (twist out, curl rods, etc) all impossible to style with my relaxed hair. I expressed this to the salon before my appointment via Google message and when I sat on the chair with Candace in December 23rd. I was told it was not best to cut all relaxed hair off and I agreed to let her do what she thought was right because she was the expert. She suggested it would take 2-3 cuts before I could shed the relaxed and "heat damaged" hair. I was disappointed to hear this but trusted what I was told. She cut some hair and her assistant washed and styled my hair (wash and go). I sat under the dryer for some time but already knew I was not okay with the outcome. I still had really long strands of relaxed hair left just shorter now so it would be difficult to tie back. Once out the dryer Candace asked what I thought. Once again I was adamant I wanted the relaxed hair gone (i felt i looked ridiculous as it was). I sat in the dryer to dry some more and She sat me back down and cut some more. Still when she was finished i still had relaxed hair sticking out in random places... She said I'd have to come back for one more cut in 3-4 months. I honestly left confused and frustrated. I did not understand why I could not just get what I asked for. I've seen people get big chops in one sitting all the time and not have to return to a salon 2-3 more times to get what they want. I felt like I was being ripped off so I'd have to come back and pay more $. I was really rooting for this salon and experience but left disappointed and in tears. Service: Candace is very nice and so is her staff. Everything is clean and kept to social distance standards and cleanliness. Place is small but cute and clean with high quality products for curly textured hair. Price: Honestly I do not think what I had done was worth what I paid (almost $200). I did not get what I asked for and had to come home and pretty much finish the job and cut my own hair twice within 3 weeks of service to have natural styles come out okay without relaxed ends sticking out Parking: Just FYI Parking is not easy to come by even meter parking is restricted to commercial vehicles in most streets. I drove and though I found metered parking still got a ticket because the parking app does not let you extend your time once your time expires (which I was not expecting). All in all not the best experience. And I will not be returning. In my experience it's hard to get salons to do what you want but this time I paid way too much for things not to come out as desired. This was my first curly cut and certainly won't be my last. I liked how she asked questions about my current regimen to understand what she needed to do, as every curly head is different. I'm so glad she has her own space now, and it is bright and beautifully decorated, as well as conveniently located in midtown. Candace is extremely talented with all types of hair. I've been going to Candace for years now - pre salon days and I will never allow anyone else to cut my curls. Candace and her team are the best at what they do. They're so welcoming and you can see that they actually care about their clients, care about their jobs, and care overall! I never walk away feeling dissatisfied and I always get compliments on hair after I visit her. You've got to book in advance (2+months) because she gets booked up quickly, but it's worth the wait. This salon is clean, organized, and easy to find from the street level. Parking is not easy in this area and garages are expensive so you're better off on public transportation. Once you walk in they ask you to wash your hands & take your temp to ensure no sick clients are entering. You are also not allowed to bring any guests/kids/etc since the space is small. Candace is professional and always starts on time. While she is trimming your hair she will ask about your routine, what products you use, etc. She can also recommend products they have at the salon which I've bought before and absolutely love. Jenna will shampoo/condition/de tangle and really takes her time on your hair. After going under the dryer, Candace will finish off your hair as needed. The whole process takes 2-3 hrs depending on what treatment you get & hair texture/length. I love this salon and get my trims every 4-5 months! I came in for a trim I told the hairstylist about 3 times to not cut too much of My hair being that I am going for length. Going in my bangs were by the mid section of my neck and the rest was about 2 inches Past my shoulders. I thought Candace was only going to cut about a inch or 1 1/2 inches tops; this wasn't the case she cut off about 3 1/2 inches. I left the salon with my bangs right below my nose and the rest of my hair barely touched my neck. Almost $200 down the drain because not only did she cut so much of my hair off but I don't have a style. She left me with that awkward stage when you are growing out a pixie cut. I was horrified that same week I went and got box braids put in so another $150 spent. Had I known I was going to have most of my curls chopped off I would of went elsewhere. So now I have to keep putting in box braids until my hair grows enough to have her work fixed. The place is nice and clean. She is nice good atmosphere. If You don't mind having so many inches cut off then go for it. If you are like me and want to keep length go elsewhere. read more

The Candace Witherspoon Salon books up fast! So I was beyond overjoyed when I was able to score a last minute appointment after booking an appointment for the following month just week a prior. Cancelling that appointment and sliding into the open spot, I arrived with my hair taken down from two french braids. When getting a curly cut it is required to come with your hair down, styled as you usually would but Candace was able to work with me. The salon sits a top 27th street right across from FIT's main campus. Upon arriving I was temp checked and washed my hands. Then from there the 1st cut occurs while your hair is dry. Then after washing and styling Candace goes back in to trim some more and shape up. This was truly an awesome experience bc being a curly girl is no easy task. Most salons would require straightening before trimming which can than look completely different once curly ( I know from experience). Everyone was really nice in the salon helping you learn more about your hair, products, & techniques. Then on top of that each client leaves beaming, so happy with the way their hair turned out.
