I ventured to the other side of town tonight to try Ryder's. My father ordered the maple walnut ice cream on a cone, and I ordered a sundae with birthday cake ice cream, hot fudge, and whipped cream. Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos of them! We both enjoyed our orders and the prices were very reasonable. The service was friendly. There is some seating, but parking can be tricky. You may be able to park close by within the same plaza. There were plenty of flavors and different options to choose from.

Please note: this review is for a black raspberry milkshake only. I was on my way home from lunch in Milford and drove right past Ryder's. Decided a shake was in order. First, you must drive around behind Ion Bank to get to it. The menu offered many choices, but I went with my favorite, a black raspberry shake. The positive: the large is only $7, which is pretty good in the current economy. The negative: too much syrup for my preference. The taste was overpowering. There was also a slight hint of banana flavor, which is not a bad thing if it was on purpose. My plan is to return and try something else, so I can give them a chance to earn the fifth star. Hot fudge sundae sounds appealing!!!

Banana Pudding Sundae Stacker

Ryder's Ice Cream is the newest edition to Meriden's South Side. The building once were storage units, now renovated to a small ice cream shop with order/pick up windows and a nice patio area with tables and adirondack chairs. The shop is in the plaza with Dunkin, Illiano's, and Ion Bank. Ryder's ice cream offers handcrafted soft serve, sundaes, milkshakes, and Italian ice. Ice cream flavors include cotton candy, peach, blueberry, banana, espresso, and more! They have dairy free options available too. My husband went simple and ordered a regular cone with twist (vanilla & chocolate). The ice cream was thick and creamy, it seemed more like a custard. I tried one of their sundae stackers, a sundae with layers. I got the Banana Pudding which was banana ice cream, two layers of wafer cookie crumbles and topped with whipped cream and a cherry. The staff forgot the caramel sauce on the sundae, but honestly I didn't miss it. The sundae was huge and I love the banana flavored ice cream. Since Ryder's Ice Cream is newly open, you could tell the young staff is still getting into the swing of things. The young man that took our order was very friendly and professional. It took the other staff time putting the sundaes together as it seemed they were doing circles in the shop for toppings, sauces and checking up on ingredient/instruction lists. Luckily it was a slow evening because it was drizzling rain and I didn't mind waiting. This is the closest ice cream shop to home so we will definitely be back Ryder's to try more soon. My husband and I are big fans of soft serve ice cream which is an added plus!

This ice cream place opened up near me this summer. I was so excited to try it and when my friend came to visit I decided it was a good opportunity for us to check it out together. They had some nice options and their outdoor seating is cute. I got the strawberry shortcake sundae stacker and it was very tasty!

Ryder's customer service is amazing ice cream is good old-fashioned flavor

Out, cruising in the hot rod, craving ice cream and being in the Southington area, there was only…read moreone choice! So here I am at Pat's looking at all the wonderful choices of ice creams, and sherbets I decided on one scoop of peaches and cream, and one scoop of lemon pie! The peaches and cream was smooth and delicious from the word go. This was a solid choice. Now this lemon pie choice was flipping amazing. There was graham crackers in with this creamy lemon ice creamy concoction. One of the best choices here at Pat's and it's new! I love coming here. Pat is such a nice guy, warm, friendly, treats everybody like he's known them for years, and his ice cream choices are spectacular This place is old school and I love sitting outside watching the traffic go by enjoying the ice cream. If you are in the area, it's just south of downtown on route 10 on the right heading towards Cheshire right after CVS. Thanks again, Pat. I hope to see you again this summer.

Wow amazing ice cream shop in Southington! My only regret is not coming here earlier. There are…read moreabout 30 flavors there at a time and let me tell you, it's hard to choose because every one that I have tried is amazing. I consider myself very lucky to live in town so I can come here often. They are open every day until 9p! Workers seem really nice and attentive. The place is also very cute, kinda like a throwback to the 90s mom and pop feel in there!

"Well, Lordy, Lordy, Lordy, Ms. Claudy Girl, you sure look…read moregood to me" (Elvis Presley) Sweet Claude's may be one of the more difficult to find ice cream stores around, so your mindset better be "determination" focused, because I guarantee you'll be very happy with your dish or cone. You'll find them tucked away pretty much out of view inside the Artsplace building (493 W Main) within the Ball and Socket Art Complex in Cheshire. They've been cranking out homemade ice cream since 1988, and we had a stellar experience when we visited. They have plenty of ice cream flavors (including some nonfat and sugar free), plus yogurts, sorbets and ices. Some of their interesting flavors are Claude's Cupcake, Dough - Si -Dough, Salty Pretzel, Smurf, and a "Banana Corner" which is a rotating selection of banana-based ice cream. How cool! I went with a 2-flavor small dish of Salty Pretzel and Triple Chocolate. The ice cream was smooth as silk and full of flavor. Seriously, their ice cream is terrific, and at $5.35 for a big enough cup, was a very fair value. PRO TIP Because Sweet Claude's is in the Ball and Socket Art Complex there are many sections within the complex to park your car. But only park in front of Sweet Claude's if you plan on staying there for no more than a half hour. Visitors to the rest of the complex or the Farmington River Trail should leave those precious spots to the ice cream afficionados!
