Out, cruising in the hot rod, craving ice cream and being in the Southington area, there was only one choice! So here I am at Pat's looking at all the wonderful choices of ice creams, and sherbets I decided on one scoop of peaches and cream, and one scoop of lemon pie! The peaches and cream was smooth and delicious from the word go. This was a solid choice. Now this lemon pie choice was flipping amazing. There was graham crackers in with this creamy lemon ice creamy concoction. One of the best choices here at Pat's and it's new! I love coming here. Pat is such a nice guy, warm, friendly, treats everybody like he's known them for years, and his ice cream choices are spectacular This place is old school and I love sitting outside watching the traffic go by enjoying the ice cream. Wow amazing ice cream shop in Southington! My only regret is not coming here earlier. There are about 30 flavors there at a time and let me tell you, it's hard to choose because every one that I have tried is amazing. I consider myself very lucky to live in town so I can come here often. They are open every day until 9p! Workers seem really nice and attentive. Truly enjoyed stopping by here for a mid day pick me up! This lovely family owned and operated business is one you must visit! Briefly being served by the owner and speaking with him, was a pleasure. We love recommendations from the experts themselves so we had to ask. He mentioned not a lot of people get the blue raspberry dipped option but it's actually one of his favorites. I was super happy to have went with that, as it was really tasty and not overpowering what so ever. I also got 2 scoops of their Cookie Monster ice cream in one of their "Deadpool" theme waffle cones! It was such a great flavor, it also had nice chunky pieces of Oreos, & cookie dough; SO GOOD! I'm a sucker for exploring a new place for ice cream. I found this little place on Google when searching for ice cream in the area I was in. When you walk in BOOM you hit in the face with that good ole' nostalgia. Ice cream themed decor and signage cover the walls like bumper stickers on the back of a car. Some of them newer while others could very well be from the 90s (fine by me ). As with traditional ice cream parlor there are windowed ice cream counters you can peer into to decide which flavor you want. I decided to go with a peanut butter flavored ice cream with Reeses Pieces (yes, peanut butter and me go WAY back). For my serving style I went with sundae and got some whip cream on top. No cherry. Not sure cherries and peanut butter making friends on top of ice cream. Anyways, the owner was the one working the counter. Very nice guy. I didn't ask him if he was the owner but he had some newspaper clippings scattered around the wall so I took a leap of faith. While I was waiting for him to get my families order I looked into a side cooler where he had drinks. At the bottom I saw that he had homemade doggy ice creams. That's awesome! I didn't have my dog with me today and wasn't sure about delivering him melted ice cream by the time I got home (although not sure he would of minded) so I opted out this time but if he's with us next time, i will most certainly jump on them. We decided to eat the ice cream at the location. The website said they had a nice brick patio but with the weather iffy that day I decided to find the first area with a seat and begin inhaling. It was on the side of the building and it had colorful benches. We parked in the front of the building where there's only a handful of spots but I saw people driving around the back to park in a lot (Felt like such a newb). However, I cant give 5 stars because the ice cream quality and flavor is just lacking.... lots of cream. So creamy you can feel the fat on your pallet. Flavors are mild. The place is a little dirty and it's not peak season yet (Sorry Pat). Counters have food splash n sticky-ickies everywhere, including cabinet doors and floors. The drip plates on the ice cream machine are slimy and scummy as well as the nozzles. The waiting area is dusty and there is a specific mold/sour milk smell permeating around the register area. Growing up in San Francisco, I knew ice cream shops lined with wooden touches, outrageous and funky flavors that a mad scientist could only fathom, and young high schoolers serving scoops on artisanal cones. These were my childhood treasure chests. These were places I turned to for an ounce of sweetness even when fog dressed the sky and rain poured down on the concrete. Don't get me wrong, I loved it all; the ice cream's wonkiness and creativity showed me boundless creativity found in sweets and desserts. But when I entered Pat's main street, I knew that I had been missing out. Pat's main street -- walls covered from top to bottom with ice cream photos, a toy taxi claw machine, and animal beanie babies -- reminded me of a childhood ice cream nostalgia I wish I had. After braving a line that swirled around the store, Pat greeted my friends to some delicious ice cream and free magnets. I had a cone of Extreme Chocolate and the Raspberry sorbet, a perfectly rich and fruity combo for a warm night stroll. It was perfect. The chocolate had small chocolate pieces and raspberry was sweet and tart, but not overly sweet and tart. The parlor itself threw me for a loop as there are all sorts of chachkis for sale while your in line. Almost looked like a yard sale with beanie babies, hats, scarves, and toys. Stopped here after dinner with my husband and niece for the first time, cute little place, good variety, the icecream was good however do not ask to sample anything, I asked I'm guessing the owner Pat if I can try a sample of the cotton candy and his response was "well it taste just like cotton candy, if you like cotton candy then you would love it, but if you don't like cotton candy you won't like it" uuuuhhhhh I sure hope it taste like cotton candy. I still would have liked to try it. I've never been to an icecream shop that didn't allow you to sample so I was a little thrown off by his response, kinda rude if you ask me. I had a child with me, it could have been for her to try. Then to make matters worse after I picked a different icecream and he served it to me he then offered me the sample by saying "I mean I'll give you the sample to be proven right." Now My cousin Who lives here now as well from up North we visit Pats ice cream at least once a week or more ... If you like ice cream you will love this little gem they are the nicest people ever and they have Gifford's ice cream as well as other kinds they have excellent sorbets real fruits in it every thing is all natural not artificial flavoring..and pretty crazy fun kid flavors and I also love his toasted coconut mounds flavor. Any of the mocha frozen drinks etc and they make there own Cotton candy fresh when it's not to hot out . Hours are great indoor and outdoor seating..
