UPDATED on 2025-10-22: This shop is absolutely a fraud! Their contracted body shop only quoted $600 while Englewood Subaru's body shop quoted over $1400 for repainting the hood and the panels. Another body shop quoted over $2400. Rye Subaru screws its customers in every way to save a dime! They have no concerns if the hood's new paint matches with the side panels' existing paint! They did not sell us a brand new car as the contract indicates. It is breach of contract and fraudulent advertising. We are hiring an attorney to sue Rye Subaru and Subaru America! Despite that we had 3 Subarus before, this will be our LAST Subaru. The entire company conducts itself in an extremely low manner as a fly-by-night tiny and shady business! So they want to save about $800 in extra paint job to screw us. Their customer service tactics are the same as United Healthcare's - Delay, Deny and Defend! The BEST Service Dept that I have ever used, and I have leased three veh from them. The WORST Sales Showroom I have ever gone to. Problems with every salesperson. Today I went to the Showroom to lease another vehicle because my lease expires at the end of the month. I made an appointment, but the salesperson wasn't at the desk. Rye Subaru was where we bought our 1st Outback. We have since relocated and are on our 4th Subaru. Unfortunately, while privately owned. the Service Department, specifically Sebastian leaves one to wonder since service is where money is made not sale/lease of cars. We spoke on the phone while on a road trip, the front glass cracked and told him we have reported it to our insurance co., USAA, was told to come in next morning. We did, was told $1200 or no work, they don't take insurance. This was never told and when an advisor relay this to Sebastian, he denied it in front of us.... Honesty and integrity are values we abide by especially because we are a 4th generation military service family. We ended up going to Adelphi Auto Works in Harrison, NY (few blocks away) who were on the approved USAA list. Adelphi is transparent, does EXCELLENT work and it was a pleasure to work with them. BTW: they are the outfit that does this work for this Rye Subaru. Bottom line: business is in business to make a profit but lack of transparent and honesty speaks volumes. read more

Mixed review - when I bought my Subaru, the team could not have been more helpful, kind, and considerate. The team that sells the cars was very knowledgeable and kind. They get a 10/10, no doubt! Recently though, when I brought my car in for servicing, the person we dealt with was rude, wrong about my car, and forgot to put new oil in after taking out the old. My car takes conventional oil, it does not need to take synthetic. The dealership confirmed that when I bought the car. Subaru's official sources online say it takes conventional oil. The new Subaru servicing location I go to now also fully agrees that my car takes conventional. Rye Subaru though used to always push synthetic oil on me and said, incorrectly, that my car can only take synthetic oil. One particular time, when I pushed back politely and explained why my engine takes conventional, and even pointed to the paper work - the service gentleman's response was, and I quote, a flat "well you need to do more research on your cars". Granted, that was the only rude person I met at the shop. Everyone else was nice, but that one person was so pushy and even became rude when all I said was that the official paper work that I was given with my car when I bought it years ago said my car takes conventional. He gave a rude, shut-down response, and kept insisting that I was wrong and that they were going to put synthetic oil in the car. He didn't ask other questions or even double check to see if he was mistaken. Rudeness aside, if they got the job done, I wouldn't have any complaints. However, there was even a time where they took out the old oil, and then told me the car was ready, I paid, they gave me the keys, I start up the car and start driving out of the lot - and I notice a dashboard light is on telling me to check my oil. I take the car back to them and they apologized and said they only put 1/8th of the new oil they were supposed to put in. That was the last time I went to them. Again, I go to a new Subaru servicing spot, and I say it takes conventional oil and they respond, 'yes of course, because xyz'. Much easier, much better. Finance guy with the Aussie (?) accent is super, super shady. Pay close attention to your paperwork and your vehicle deposit. They will give you an all inclusive price for the car, then if you want the car/agree to price will ask you to leave a deposit (normal). Then when you come to get the car, they tell you the deposit was worked into the price of the car, even though they didn't know what your deposit was going to be when they gave you the final price. Then they try to add on all these surprise extra fees. GET EVERY LAST DETAIL DOWN TO THE PENNY IN WRITING BEFORE YOU AGREE TO THE PRICE AND MAKE SURE THEY APPLY DEPOSIT APPROPRIATELY. Have had a history of unpleasant experiences with this repair shop and my latest issue has guaranteed I'll never return. Brought my car in for a broken pitch stop mount covered under an extended warranty. Repair shop had to order a part and send the car out to an outside weld shop for this repair, no problem. The replacement part was never installed and the outside shop literally welded the already cracked mount back together, left a piece of weld lead on their poorly done welds, sprayed it with some paint and called it a day. Nowhere near what Subaru's service bulletin outlines for this type of repair. To no surprise the repair failed less than 24 hours later. Brought my car back, had to wait for another replacement part (original part mysteriously vanished), and this time the outside shop actually replaced the part. But now according to the service shop I had a broken stud that would cost over $100 to repair, very suspicious. Additionally, three weeks later the clamp for the post intercooler pipe had popped off due to a poor job of reinstalling the intercooler, which needed to come off in order to work on the mount. By now I had had enough and brought my car to my usual shop, which fixed both the stud and clamp. When I asked what happened with the first repair I was told that the weld shop owner was out and the other tech wasn't told what had to be done, that's unacceptable. I asked the service rep why his shop didn't take a second look after receiving the repair back (especially since they would guarantee the work for a year) and he dodged the question. If you're going to stand by a repair job your shop didn't do themselves it seems like common sense to double check the work for your own liability and peace of mind. Overall just feel very mislead and have lost all faith in this shop. Do yourself a favor and bring your car somewhere else. read more

tl;dr: We had a great experience at Rye Subaru and love our car. Extra long and thorough version below. Recently purchased our first car from Rye Subaru (a.k.a. Kingery Subaru). We knew we were looking for a used Subaru Impreza and had been scouring Cars.com and AutoTrader.com for months looking for the right car. In the end, we ended up buying from Rye Subaru and had an overall positive experience. Here are some highlights and tips: 1) Move quickly. If you're looking to buy a specific pre-owned model, and you see it in their inventory online, contact them now. On the Saturday that we came in to test drive the car, we were the first of three appointments that the rep had made for the car that day. 2) Email them. We communicated with our rep frequently via email. She was really responsive and will answer questions. 3) Financing: If you're looking for financing, speak with your own banks first, but also look into the dealership financing while you're there. We actually got a lower rate through the dealer than through our bank. 4) Inspection: Before you sign on the dotted line, consider getting the vehicle independently inspected. Our car had a clean Carfax, but for peace of mind, we asked the dealer if we could get it independently inspected. They'll talk about the 152 point inspection that their service folks do, but getting it independently inspected made us feel better about making the purchase. Turns out, the independent inspection was just as positive about the car's condition as the dealer, but found a couple of small things, such as tire adjustments, that the dealer took care of. 5) Sales technique: This is not the land of the "hard sell" for their used cars. I have a sense that their used vehicles move quickly, so don't expect them to twist your arm to buy a car. 6) Piggybacking on the point above, they're also honest. We inquired about buying an extended warranty for the car. Generally, purchased warranties are money makers for any company, but the dealership told us that it'd probably be a waste of our money. The car was in great condition and the dealership probably could have taken advantage of us being first-time car purchasers who know nothing about cars, but they didn't. Our independent inspection also recommended not bothering with the warranty. 7) Ask for what you want. They're not going to do things, such as installing a new stereo or repaint your car, but they will generally take care of small things to make sure you're happy. We got all of our tires adjusted, got new wipers, and because there were a couple of small scratches on the car, we also got some touch up paint. 8) The dealership is really close to the Metro North train station. Yes, this is obvious simply by looking at a map, but for those of you who also live in NYC and want to buy a car, it was incredibly easy to get here. Don't be deterred just because you have to come up to Westchester! 9) The people here are nice. I wasn't going to comment on this at first, but reading other people's reviews about how rude they are, I have to chime in, because I did not have that experience whatsoever. Everyone was nice and professional. 10) Price: We got a great deal. Our purchase price was on the far low end of the Kelley Blue Book range for Subaru Imprezas of that model and year. The Carfax report actually stated that whatever the KBB range was, you could add several hundred dollars to it, because the car was in great condition. The only negative thing about our purchase experience was that after we purchased the car, we realized the service team never refilled the wiper fluid! Not a big deal, but hey service team, isn't that part of your 152 point inspection? Oh well. Wiper fluid is cheap and I needed to learn how to refill that by myself anyway. Final note that's not related to the dealership, but if you're actually still reading my review, you may find this helpful: if this is your first time buying a car, seriously shop around for auto insurance. We first got quotes from three different major brokers that were relatively the same (and all relatively expensive), thinking, "Okay, this is basically what we're going to get..." and then we called the lizard insurance broker and literally got a quote that was a fraction of our first quotes! Brutal experience. Just as you might expect... lies and deceit is the MO here. Brought my two year old Outback in for service. I was told it would take three days for the work to be completed. Three days went by and I didn't hear anything at all. I called the service department to get an update and was told my service rep would get back to me in 10 minutes. Didn't hear anything for two more days, so I called and asked for the manager who said he would make sure I got a call back in 5 minutes. An entire day went by before I finally got a call. The part that needed to be replaced was "damaged in transit". They needed another day to replace. I called back after two more days and was told that again, the second replacement part was damaged in transit and they'd need two more days to repair. Once again, no call back after two days. Finally, I called and said I was fed up with this and I needed my car back. (I'd paid $1500 in rental car fees by this point). They said it would be ready in thirty minutes. I drove to pick it up only to find that they had not reinstalled the door panel properly (they returned the car with the weatherstripping dragging the ground) and had broken one of my mirrors. You really can't make this up... now I had more problems than I came in with. I had to wait four more days after I was told it would only take a day. All in, it took more than two weeks to complete a repair I was told would take three days, cost me a TON of money and I was miserable for half a month. I would strongly suggest avoiding Rye Subaru at all costs. It's too competitive of a market to treat your customers so poorly. I was treated like dirt and hope others will take warning. read more

I brought my car in for an air bag recall. Upon picking up my car I noticed the dashboard was all sliced up. No one informed me of the damage and I almost left the dealership. It was an awful chop shop, novice job. (See pictures of before and after) I immediately pointed this out to the service manager who told me they would cover the expense for the repair. After a week of back and forth and an unnecessary drive up from Brooklyn for an appointment only to learn that the only guy they have to fix this was out of town and didn't show up to work. I was told he wouldn't be returning for an uncertain amount of time. I needed the repair done on my day off and asked if I could take it to a different dealership. I was told I couldn't because they would have to pay. After losing my patience and refusing to accept their "we are good for our word- we will do it in the future" response. They called me to tell me they found someone to do the work. Maybe I should have waited, but I just didn't trust their word. I went with their solution since I wanted to believe they would do right by me, the loyal customer. Well, the results are horrendous and I am forced to live with the damage they caused for an airbag recall. I hoped that they would have more skilled and professional labor doing this kind of work. I have been schlepping up from Brooklyn for 12 years to go this dealership and I have paid thousands of dollars in maintenance. It was rare for me to leave an oil change without having something that needed to be replaced or changed. Needless to say, I am never returning to this dealership again. I came to Rye Subaru in a bit of a panic. Mavis - don't ever go there! - told me that my brakes were "down to the metal" and that I would need to replace them for $420. I was prepared to pay the price if I really needed them replaced, but something didn't feel right. Subaru handled everything perfectly. They calmed me down and said "we'll do a multi-point inspection and if we find anything that needs service, we'll figure it out". Great! Less than a half-an-hour later everything was done. My brakes were fine and the car passed inspection with no issues. The only thing Subaru recommended replacing was the air filter, but they said it's OK to wait until 45k. The whole thing took maybe 40 minutes total with no hassles. I'm glad I can always count on Subaru for friendly, honest service. While I understand I didn't have any major work or big interactions here since it was just an inspection, I feel fairly confident they are great for all service based on what I know so far.
