*Dishonest Business Practice* I brought my car in for an inspection and was told it would fail because all of my rotors and brake pads needed to be replaced and because my "windshield wipers weren't connected." They tried to convince me to do the work immediately by offering an "employee discount." This raised some concerns, so I brought my car to two other shops for second opinions. Both told me there were no issues with the brakes or wipers and were happy to pass the car for inspection. Do not agree to have any work done here without getting a define opinion. read more

I changed the rating from 5 stars to 1 star. This place is no longer what it used to be. I sent in for an inspection in Sept '25 and came back 30 minutes later to them telling I had tire rot and needed all tires replced. Note, these tires were 2018 Continentals which they pointed out but I told them they were purchased and mounted in August of 2020. I only drive 25,000 miles over those five years due to COVID and that I worked within a few miles from home and did WfH. Anyways, I told them I had to leave to due to other appointments but call me with the price of the tires to replace thinking they were being truthful. I called four hours later for the price and was told they had ordered tires and they were there. I never committed to a day or time to come back before I left so why order tires. The manager then called and was borderline threatening that they had ordered tires and I should not have left with the sticker still on the car if it didn't pass inspection (The inspection sticker was to expire at the end of the month). I told them if that was the law they made two mistakes: Ordering tires without confirming an appointment with the car owner and breaking the law by letting me leave with the stick in place after it failed Inspection. I think both of those claims were Bovine Scat. Guess what? I took it to another place in Stamford to have a slow leak fixed and all tires inspected, air filled and cleaned a bit. They said they didn't see any rot just that the tread was a bit low. I then took it to CCM Auto Repairs in Port Chester for a $10 inspection. They said the tread will likely be fine for another full year or two with my low use. No rot claimed by either of them. This Mavis Discount Tire place was trying to pull a fast one to sell tires prematurely. That heated phone call from who I assume is the manager was a big wake up call to NOT go back and I'm glad I didn't. Never am I going there again. I hope they had to pay to send those tires back since it was their fault and since they were trying to deceive me. read more

I came in for an inspection which I've done here before. They were nice at the front desk but came back to me and said I had tire rot and couldn't pass inspection. I said how can that be the car is garage and it only has 25,000 miles on it. All he said was that's what the inspector said. So I took the car and left. I didn't fall for buying four new tires. It was funny because two people in front of me. They told the same thing too, and they all ended up getting new tires. So I think it's a scam because I actually took my car to the Acura dealer to get it inspected and a password flying colors. Disappointed because it's not the company it used to be. read more

Dishonest and Deceptive - Never Returning I don't usually leave reviews, but this experience was beyond unacceptable. I came in needing two front tires urgently. The employee told me Arroyo tires were "just as good" as Continental -- which is simply not true. I knew better, but I went along with it because I needed the tires immediately. Then I was charged for an alignment. While waiting, I overheard the staff telling two Spanish-speaking customers that the alignment technician wasn't even there. What they didn't realize is that my name is Pedro and I speak Spanish -- I understood everything. Before I could even say anything, the employee looked at me and said, "I knew you were going to come up here. We just told that to that guy because we're trying to get rid of him." That alone was enough to show how dishonest they are. I stayed by the counter and watched the entire process. My car was never hooked up to any alignment equipment. Yet the employee told me it was "2 degrees off" -- without ever speaking to the techs or checking the car. I was standing right there the whole time. Only after I called him out did he remove the alignment charge. And after all that, he had the nerve to ask me for a review. So here it is: Stop lying. Stop trying to scam people. Start helping. I overpaid -- significantly -- and I'll never return. If you value honesty and real service, do not go here. read more

I came in for a valve replacement, and the guy at the front desk confirmed that my tire was dry rotting, and there was a 50/50 chance that my tire could pop or slash during replacement, which made absolutely no sense. My assumption is that this would have been a reason to them to charge me for a replacement tire, and thus increasing the costs of a service. I left, and went directly to Hank May's tire shop which is ~4 minutes away and got exceptional customer service there. There were able to balance the tire, change my valve and I left as a happy 1st time customer. And guess what, my tire didn't pop or slash as a result of replacing a valve. I would recommend everyone to stay away from Mavis, and take a quick trip right down to Hank May. read more

I went to Mavis on Boston Post Road to get my tire replaced after being told I had a slow leak in one of my tired. They told me that my tires were fine that my pressure was off. The third time I brought my car back they noted the leak. Got 2 new tires but the one leaking was never replaced. I would give zero stars buy that's not an option. read more

I've replaced all 4 of my tires and all brakes at this Mavis within the last 2 years with no issues. I arrived today to get my NYS inspection done with an appointment. they took me in 30 minutes late and then proceeded to tell me after 30 minutes that my front 2 tires failed and that they were 3 years old and "bald". I followed up with my receipt from when I got my tires replaced less than 2 years ago at the exact same Mavis to where they told me I was wrong. They failed me on inspection and I ended up trying 2 different car shops in the area. Both shops did the same inspection on the car and stated that there was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH MY TIRES. The issue was that Mavis in Portchester had already failed my inspection in the system so the other shops weren't willing to pass it because Mavis had indicated that my tires weren't up to par. Staff was extremely rude, especially the service manager. I've spent thousands of dollars at this specific location. Biggest waste of time and money and will absolutely not be returning. read more

Would definitely give 0 stars if I could. Brought in my car on 10/3 and spent nearly $1000 to replace front & rear brakes and rotors. From the day after having the work done, they started squealing and it continued to get worse. Called and explained the issue and was told to bring it in the next day, which was 8 days after the initial work being done. (Could not get there sooner because of my work hours.) Showed up in the morning and was greeted by the same person who checked in my car the week prior. Then sat in the waiting area for 2.5 hours with no update whatsoever. Watched my car being raised & lowered on the lift multiple times. Then watched almost the entire staff stop to eat lunch. I get that they need to eat but mine was the only car in the bay and I'd already been sitting here for almost 3 hours. Still no update. Overheard other unhappy customers since I was there for so long. Finally got into my car after being here for FIVE hours. If the work had done properly the first time, I would not have had to return. Was finally told that they had problems with the wrong parts and all of this other nonsense. None of this was communicated to me in the amount of time that I was sitting there. Manager tried to blame his lack of customer service on me because I didn't say anything. Will never come here again and I'll warn others about this poorly run location. read more

Called at 8:30am to make an appointment to purchase a new tire after having a blow out. Told the man who answered the phone that my daughter would be there by 4:15. After leaving a 25.00 deposit and arriving at 4:00 we did not leave till 8:00 !! If you were booked we should of been told so that we could of gone to another Mavis. No customer service and if we did not ask nobody was talking to us ! Never ever again ! Was the staff busy YES they sure were.....I think that was the only reason I was understanding at all. I wish there was a rating I could give lower than one star. I had a bent rim and the mechanic at Mavis had no idea that was the issue. I took it to another place and they knew right away that was the issue. And to top it off, the Mavis employee had my car stereo on while working on my car and drained the battery. Terrible. I am not writing the review because this is a one off experience but rather, they are consistently bad the last few times I've taken my car. This past experience was far below even past negative experiences. First, there was no communication or updates about a fix that was to take longer than expected. They were unable to do a basic repair and then three days in to the repair, the mechanic didn't show up for work so they had no mechanics on staff. Being night before Thanksgiving, we were anxious to complete our journey to see family. We arrived at Mavis 10 minutes before closing time. Horrible. Avoid this place at all costs. Came here to get a leak in my break line fixed on my Honda Civic, the staff then told me that i needed a new alternator and convinced me to get it replaced. After that, my car started experiencing weird electrical issues for a while, ultimately forcing me to bring it back to a mechanic again (my normal mechanic in my neighborhood) who informed me that the alternator they had put in was faulty and/or replaced incorrectly, so i ended up needing to get the alternator replaced a SECOND time within the span of just a few months. read more

Talked to a guy named Geo over the phone. Told him my issue as best as i could describe (im not a car person) Geo was able to fix and give me a thorough explanation on what tires would best fit my needs . The thing that I appreciated the most was that he was not one of those pushy people who try to force a sale, he was the opposite and definitely knew what he was talking about. I had an appointment for 11am, drove about an hour to get there and was walking to the office when one of the mechanics asked me if I was dropping off for tomorrow, I said no I have an appointment at 11 and he told me "call back tomorrow, we're too busy and won't get to you today". Having an appointment didn't matter, according to the tech the online system just books you in regardless so when I arrived there was 4 cars on the lifts and another 13 in line before me. I understand places are busy, and wouldn't mind having to wait an hour or maybe even two but "try again tomorrow" is not good enough. Mavis, fix your appointment scheduling or at least call people before hand and tell them that there are delays and give them the option to reschedule rather than just leaving everyone turn up before telling them. This place is terrible. I've been here a few times just out of convenience because it's close to my house but they're honestly the worst. When I came here a month ago for an oil change, they couldn't settle on the next mileage for which I would have to come back. (They changed the # of miles like 3 times! Like they had no idea what they were doing) Then today I came back to fix a problem with the air pressure in my tires. It took them a little over 3 hours from when I dropped it off (there was one car ahead of me, but still) to fix the issue, which was just refilling all four tires with air and then manually resetting tire pressure light on dashboard. At least they didn't charge me anything for the latter procedure. Do not come here unless it's an absolute emergency and you can't afford to wait and go somewhere else. read more

UNETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES. Brought my vehicle in for a NY State inspection. BEFORE even touching or looking at my vehicle the person checking me in said " Inspections take at least 1 hour and that doesn't include any repairs we will need to do in order for it to pass". So already having a feeling this is shady, 40 minutes later I get a phone call from Mavis, a man clearly reading a script tells me my rear brakes are 85% worn and for the "low price of $249" we can replace them. "The brake flush is $79 which is a $20 discount and for only $249 we can replace the rear shocks. We can get started on this right now ma'am ". So aside from the fact that clearly the staff strongly pushes upsells... NY state law states the following with regard to brake inspections: Disc brake pads - check condition Drum brake linings - thickness on linings must be at least 1/16 inch on bonded linings or at least 1/32 inch over rivet head on riveted linings. NO WHERE is there a % Additionally once I received the paperwork they failed the vehicle on brakes and wipers YET over the phone inferred that the shocks were also a fail which was NOT the case. They obviously prey on and bank on ill informed uneducated customers and have no qualms taking advantage of people. Luckily not having been born yesterday I told them to give me my vehicle back. Super shady establishment. Lastly in reading other reviews, the complete LACK OF RESPONSE by the business shows they do not value their customers or care to change any of their dishonest unethical practices. Your classic scammers in auto repair services! These guys will recommend a lot crap you don't need at all. First, they will recommend struts, then brakes, then just about anything else they can milk off you after a basic tire repair since tire repairs do not make them that much money. Took my vehicle to the dealership and the mechanic confirmed that my vehicle didn't need any of their recommendations at all. Secondly, these guys will lie about how long they will keep your vehicle. Made an appointment the day before and the guy promised it would take no more than 30 minutes to an hour. 3 hours later my car was still sitting in the back of their parking lot and untouched!!! read more

Was told I needed all new calipers when I went in for brake pads and possibly rotors. I got front calipers and told them I would go to a different mechanic for the back (they said I could wait a bit for those but needed them very soon). When I left the brake pedal was soft, I called in saying it felt like there was air in the lines. I was told the lines were fine, it was because I needed new back calipers. I took my car to a certified mechanic who said my back calipers were perfectly fine but there was a lot of air in 3 of the brake lines. I was scammed out of nearly $700 and left with brake lines that were not bled. DO NOT go here if you are looking for an honest evaluation and service. read more
