The service was the shining light for this brunch restaurant. I cannot stress enough how kind and attentive they were the entire time we were here from start to finish. The restaurant was also very well kept, clean, recently redone, and quiet so you can enjoy your meal. The meal was where I get a little let down. Their pancakes and sunny side up egg were perfect, and I feel as though the rest of their sweet/griddle items could be just as delicious. Their other savory dishes get a little... adventurous... when it comes to seasoning and overall cook. I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and I'm so glad I stopped in! My friend and I were looking for a new place to try and we were both very pleased with our meals and the vibe! I am a true patio lover, so anywhere where I have the opportunity to eat outside is always a win in my book. This is the 2nd time my wife and I have been to this restaurant. The 1st time we ate breakfast. I forgot to document . But that was good ! This is what motivated us to return a 2nd time . This visit was a brunch I decide to have the turkey club sandwich. This sandwich was big , a lot of turkey on this sandwich. It came with an aïoli/mayo sauce which provides more flavors to this sandwich. The fries was an extra up charge. My wife had an avocado toast.. she complimented the seasoning that was placed on the toast. The overall service was good and the environment was very clean and everything looks like new on the inside of this establishment. We stopped in when they first change names from Silver Swan to Rye and Shine the service was very slow, we decided to give it another opportunity today walked in sat down waited about seven minutes, not even offered a glass of water as I looked around. My husband and I were really starting to like this local breakfast spot! The first time we went the food was delivered fast and was tasty. Second time around, we waited an hour for our breakfast plates and my coffee sat unfilled almost the entire time. Such a shame because the service and time we waited for our food definitely ruined the experience for us. Will not be going back. An hour and a half for eggs, bacon, and hash browns is outrageous. Ryes and Shine is a surprise gem of a restaurant that my wife and I enjoy for a great, hearty breakfast in a charming atmosphere. The wait staff have been cheery and attentive each time we've gone. My coffee mug is always hot and full and we have never felt ignored or forgotten. Two things stand out for me as far as breakfast goes: portion size and their coffee. I like to have a large meal to get my day going, and the Silver Swan is my go-to dish when I want something filling and traditional. There are ample portions of bacon and their Ryes potatoes; sometimes I have to get a carry-out container to take the rest home for later. The first time I had their coffee, I was surprised at how smooth it was. Our server told us it was locally sourced from Akron Coffee Roasters, which was so great because we strongly believe in supporting local businesses. My wife loves the Bananas Fosters French Toast and friends of ours have said many other items on the menu are also quite yummy. Love this place and can't wait to go back! read more

I went here for the first time on Saturday morning. I was thankful I got there at 9 AM because by the time we were leaving, there was a line out the door. I got an egg white veggie omelette. It was amazing and that you put some seasoning on it. I would definitely go back to this restaurant. I wish I took a picture of my omelette, but I was so excited by the side of it. Came here again on St. Patricks' Day because we were craving reubens. Unfortunately, we were informed they were out of rye, so we said sourdough would be fine. Then, we learned corned beef had sold out as well, and they were running low on fries. For some, this might be the basis for a one-star review, but my husband and I truly weren't bothered because our server told us immediately. We were enjoying the atmosphere and still wanted to eat here in lieu of searching for reubens elsewhere. (And as a side note, the fact that had run of things because of the previous day's bar crawl actually made me happy because that means they must have done good business, and I want to see Ryes N Shine be successful) Even though we were unfazed, the manager comped our dinners, which was truly unnecessary but very appreciated. I ordered the meatloaf sandwich and my husband had the fish and chips. Both were delicious. My husband said the hush puppies were the best he's ever had, and they reminded me of the ones I grew up eating at seafood places in New Orleans. For drinks we had the special "Irish breakfast" shots and a couple of Guinnesses. As I commented in my first review, I really like the bar area, in particular. It was nice and dark but not grungy. I'm obsessed with the bathroom tiles. I don't know what the old Silver Swan looked like, but they clearly renovated it to keep the old school vibes intact, and it has a real "neighborhood" feel (which is great for us since we live 1 minute away). PS-I don't know why someone voted "oh no!" on the picture from our last visit. Is it the most "aesthetic" picture of a burger? No. But it was damn good, so stop being weird. read more

This hole-in-the-wall is a real treat. Cozy open dining area with friendly helpful staff. The noise level when full is a happy brook or stream level of friendly chatter. The interior is nice and comfortable, one side has a cafe atmosphere and the other a bar. I sat at the bar and had a drink, fish and chips and a side salad. The drink was finished before the food arrived. Having the salad out first would have been nice but I did not specify. All the food was worth the wait. The fries were seasoned and crisp. The fish was batter fried but not too heavily like some places and there was a semi-sweetness to the batter I liked. The tartar sauce was not as thick or as potent as most other places, loved it. All the ingredients tasted fresh. Many sauces and dressings made in house. Service was friendly and brought us everything we needed. Will go again, looking forward to trying breakfast. read more

Supposed to be avocado toast - avocado so thin it barely covered the 1 slice of bread (maybe 1 Tbsp.). Got charged for "extra" after asking for avocado (to cover the bread). Others ordered breakfast and lunch - lacking any flavor. Iced tea was insanely strong it tasted toxic - left a horrible after taste. How do you mess up tea that bad? Ambience and service was rough too. As with other reviews, took a long time to get food with very little follow up. Less than 1 star was not an option - don't waste your time or money. read more

This is an awful place. Food came out cold, the pancake was the blackest I've ever seen. Was supposed to be a blueberry pancake and it had no blueberries. Sent it back, all they did was microwave it and now it was steamy and hard as a rock. The first time I went here, I enjoyed the food. However, the person I was with did not. Second time was a lot worse. Our waitress went outside with multiple staff to empty their grease trap?? Or just take the garbage out. She came right back to our table, and started bussing other tables without washing their hands. Food was undercooked, and unseasoned. The only saving grace was their sourdough toast. And of course... the lights flickered frequently. It had a very "cozy horror movie" vibe. 1 out of the 4 staff members seemed friendly. I hate to leave a negative review, especially for a welcome new addition to the local restaurant scene. But my dining experience at Ryes and Shine left so much to be desired that I must post a review. My wife and I got to the restaurant around 11:00 AM on a Monday morning and found there were only two tables occupied. We ordered basic breakfasts. Mine was the Silver Swan special consisting of scrambled eggs, bacon, roasted cubed potatoes, and toast, and I got a waffle on the side. We waited a long time for the order to come; a surprise given how empty the place was. All of the food was overcooked but barely warm. The potatoes were so overcooked that half of them were not even edible. The waffle was so cool that it would not melt the butter. My wife's breakfast sandwich came with a glop of supposed cheddar cheese that completely overtook the sandwich. The sausages in the sandwich seemed to have been frozen before they were overcooked (and then allowed to get cold). Her potatoes, like mine, were overcooked and mostly inedible. We literally left half the food on our plates. I really hope this restaurant turns it around, because it would be great to have another nice option for breakfast in the area. It does have a nice enough atmosphere. But unless I see some shockingly good reviews, we, sadly, will not be back. read more

Wanted to give this place a chance and excited for a new breakfast place but they FAILED! I don't give them more than a couple months before they close. Service was 1 star and they weren't even packed...SMH. Waited 45 mins and still had no clue where the food was which was a couple simple everyday breakfast meals. Waitress didn't come check on us or get us drink refills. We left money for our drinks and left. We were there for lunch today. My husband had the fish and chips. The fish and hush puppies were overcooked bordering burned. He probably should have sent them back. His cole slaw had a weird taste..I tried it and totally agreed. He did say his French fries were good. I ordered the Shine burger. It was good but the bun was much too small for the burger and condiments. Overall a 2 rating was probably fair. We did tell the waitress about who offered to remove the charges for the fish and chips but we declined. She should have never served this in this state...the Reuben served at tge table across from us was also bordering on burned. The cook needs to do a better job. We won't be going back there.
