Very disappointed in the cake i ordered. i called the cake hotline and described what I wanted. I specifically wanted roses on it. I had her read back the order to me and it was correct. No roses when I picked it up. Also you are getting skimpy with the frosting On the cupcakes. Delicious but be there at a lucky time, or your faves might have to wait til they're able to accommodate baking a fresh batch; especially my absolute favourite cannolis (originally from the mid-Atlantic seaboard...they are Italian-standard in all aspects, not a bank-breaker at all (they're 2.50 a pop and that's at minimum a non-meaty, yet fatty, whipped to perfection in pastry glory, freakin' 550-700 calories (as a short little guy weighing 155 lb that can be a half days' meal or more if busy/ end of month lol- so gimme a break phony Italians- go to MickeeDees and spend two fifty on some mystery meat if that be your preference or TorontoTims eight day faux American Apple Fritz 'al dente con brio' (break ya teeth off so strong it's a rock) if ya have dental insurance in America ha - go to the corner store, like you'd see in old Baltimore or The Main Line of Philly (a little chit chat - stir up some questions of what the server likes - they're busy as heck, remember, so the bustle and normal well oiled ha business "unaesthetic ambience" is actually very well kept for staff issues (this is the display case part of the store we're reviewing after all) and reminds me of places on the Jersey Shore on the off-season- locals' tell ya by foot where to go for starting a nice day! And the neighborhood is urban commercial/industrial 2 if I'm right, ya know, not yuppie stuff - so very organic small maritime city with many layers of history: Franco-Ottowah, Mid-Atlantic swarthy Irish/Mediterranean/Balkan, Great Migration Success Story, and your unique Netherlandy people too. All hungry and at the mercy of the big orders of the day! That's a good small business for you. Food was great but customer service was not good at all. Both my wife & I brought our 3 year old daughter to the bakery on separate occasions to get a cookie and eat it there. Both times an older lady who works there said along the lines of "glad that's over" while glaring at my daughter as we were leaving. Came into this location for this first time on a Monday morning and was treated so poorly. I thought to myself, maybe this cashier was just having a bad morning. The tone, the attitude, totally unnecessary, even if there was 2 people in line behind me. So fast forward a few days and I decide to go back in there on Saturday to try again. The same woman was working the counter. Short hair, glasses, same sassy attitude with the guy in front of me. I get up to order and got nasty service again. Their custom cakes are not only adorable but SO delicious! My 5 year old is obsessed with bacon and they made him the cutest cake!! Their donuts are out of this world, as are their pastries. Rykes had such a good reputation in town. I gave them a few chances. Untrained , young , rude staff. Two separate times I was charged almost double for the cakes I purchased. 1 time they cost me a 35$ over draft fee. First time i assumed it was just a mistake. I think they do this often. 2nd time I complained. They reversed the charge after talkng to mgmt. They agreed to make my cake for the cost they told me it would be originally. When I gave them my card numbers. When I picked up the cake it was white. No decorations. Just the flavor I orderd thrown in a box. It was for a child's birthday. So rude, unprofessional. They are way over rated. I'll never order from their again. They've almost ruined 2 birthday's, if I hadn't run to the store to buy toppers ,frosting to fix the cake. They ended up costing me extra money and stalling the party to fix the cake. They were supposed to decorate. Like I said I gave them a few chances, because things happen. This place came highly recommended so I decided to give it a try. And they did not disappoint! I stopped in for a last minute birthday cake and they had several of their most requested already prepared in their refrigerated section. I went with their round marble cake that is swirled with chocolate and vanilla cake. It was mostly vanilla so if you are expecting chocolate, get chocolate or have it custom made with layers each of chocolate and vanilla. The inside was filled with bavarian creme between each layer. I am not a birthday cake person, they are usually too sweet. But their cake definitely surpassed my expectations. It taste like it had been freshly prepared. and not too sweet like most cakes. Just stopped at the Bakery in Grand Haven for my first time. Usually stop at the Muskegon location on Laketon. It'll be my first and last time. I will have second thoughts about even stopping in the Muskegon location. Donut was thick dry and old. I thought I was purchasing white milk turned out to be flavored. My mistake way overpriced. Be aware of charge for using debit cards. I'm a frequent Traveler. not too many places charge for debit cards very few anymore in the United States. Good luck with this location. Stopped in for a quick lunch and had an amazing egg salad on a croissant. I was amazed at the helpful staff and the complete pastry selection. I didn't expect so much variety at a second location. I ended up leaving with a cake that was personalized on the spot. They had samples out of their cake. I wish I would have tried their butter cookies. They looked good too.
