Date of expiration. I purchased on 3/29.

I really liked this bakery. So much so, I ordered a 1/2 sheet cake monthly for work, in addition visited several times a week. I stopped in the bakery on a random Saturday and purchased an individual carrot cake, oatmeal cookies, and a brownie while waiting for some sandwiches. I tried the cake first and couldn't believe how hard and crumbly it was. The cookies were stale as well. On Monday I wrote to the store explaining the situation and asked if they would consider crediting me cost of the cake? The response I received was that nobody else complained about any baked goods that day and they would talk to the manager. I received no word back and wrote again. They decided that my patronage to the bakery wasn't worth the credit of a stale carrot cake. The message was clear. I was not a valued customer.

Did our wedding cake through Ryke's Bakery and it was great! We wanted a small cake that also stood out and looked amazing and Ryke's delivered just that! We were so happy with the outcome!

Ryke's began more than 80 years ago in Muskegon and has since spread its sugary wonder-baked joy to other parts of West Michigan. They're most known for their cakes. And their impossible-to-resist butter cookies. Super thin and crispy, these little discs of savory sweetness practically melt in your mouth. You won't be able to eat just one. Their Holland location also offers a modest selection of coffee shop staples and a cafe where you can sit and enjoy a pastry and piping hot brew. They've also gotten into the gourmet cupcake game and, like any other gourmet cupcakes, you'll pay gourmet prices. But they are good!! Heads up: Ryke's accepts cards, but there's a $5 minimum charge to avoid a $0.35 fee (even for debit cards). Stop in and check it out. If nothing else, get some Ryke's butter cookies to go. You won't be disappointed. --Jayson

Peanut butter cookies, Bavarian cream cupcake, vanilla cupcake and peanut butter cup cupcake.

Last review of 2021! The only thing I'll really miss about leaving my last home in Tampa Florida is the cupcakes from Publix. I know I should strive to support local businesses but if you guys ever have the chance, go grab some. My husband came up with the U-Haul from Florida and we were hankering for some desserts to unload with. By "we" I mean I. I wanted dessert, as usual. I tried the peanut butter cookie, the Bavarian cream cupcake and a chocolate peanut butter cupcake. This next part deserves it's own paragraph: Those peanut butter cookies ought to be illegal. They are fantastic and I don't think I can spend my coming days without them. I just got word that Holland is going to have a Crumbl cookie which I like alright...but this cookie blew Crumbl out of the water. The cupcakes were fine. The Bavarian cream one was pretty great. The chocolate peanut butter was meh. It was good but not great. The service was nice. I really mobbed up there with 10 family members and the staff was patient, friendly and helpful. I really appreciate them. I'll definitely be back to try more stuff and things.

Remnants of amazing cake and sugar cookie

Fantastic little bakery. We ordered the cake in a cup with marble/Bavarian/Buttercream and it is or was amazing. We also ordered the sugar cookie with buttercream frosting. Was very reasonably priced. Fantastic find.

Beautiful little bakery with a huge parking lot! This place gets packed and for good reason!…read more Apple cider donuts are phenomenal, the almond cookies are delightful and soft, the fresh orange juice is well worth $5 a cup, and the muffins are huge. So many things to choose from, good luck!!

Today, was a cloudy and cold Wednesday mid morning. The place was busy, but no long wait times. The food is always good. Everything I've ever eaten on the menu is good... but I have a special affinity for pig 'n the blankets, banket, and any Mexican inspired breakfast item in the menu. Today I had the chorizo Benny. It was fabulous and worth the $15 imo. Our waiter, Pedro, was the best! He's worked there for over a decade and knows the family that runs this restaurant--- 3 Dutch brothers--- he gave me a run down on the lore and all the pictures are of their family photos hanging around the restaurant. I think that's pretty cool. They will be opening and expanding into a new restaurant location on the corner of River and Lakewood Blvd sometime in the near future. That location will have more of a "hipster" vibe with breakfast cocktails, etc. Check them out when you want... but if you don't want to wait come during off peak hours and off season times. Make sure to peruse their bakery for some goodies to take home. Salud.

I was looking for places to check out on my recent Holland adventure and this place intrigued me…read more.. because it's a bakery/cafe that has chicken tenders....!! I LOVE chicken tenders. I drove up and loved the spacious parking lot. Walking in, the bakery was well lit and clean, and a bit overwhelming. They had so many kinds of baked goods, including some Dutch specialties like banket. (I honestly have no idea what that is but I know it's a Dutch pastry.) You can order 2, 3, 5, or 12 tenders at a time, and you can get them as a combo (with fries and a drink) or just by themselves. I opted for two tenders, one plain and one with original dry rub which is kind of like a ranch flavor. I also ordered a Diet Coke. The food didn't take too long to come out, and the tenders were hefty and super crispy. I liked the dry rub, but I think I'd just go with plain next time because they have the most delicious honey mustard. The Diet Coke was also super crispy and this was such a nice snack. They also have a menu of breakfast options like egg sandwiches, bagels, avocado toast, etc. The lunch menu is rounded out with salads, sandwiches, and mac and cheese. If I lived nearby I think I'd be a regular here!

I highly recommend this bakery!

Bowerman's on 8th is a love letter to the humble blueberry, written in the language of warm lattes, fresh pastries, and shelves overflowing with jars that seem to bottle summer itself. As someone with a dairy allergy, coffee shops can sometimes feel like places built for everyone else. But here there was kindness in the details--different milk options, thoughtful choices, and the feeling that everyone should be able to enjoy a good cup of coffee. Traveling from out of state, this was one of the places I circled on my map, hoping reality would match the stories. Somehow, it was even better. The blueberry latte was the kind of drink that slows time. Bright and refreshing, sweet without trying too hard, tasting like a morning walk through a Michigan orchard after the rain. Around me were cases filled with treats and shelves stacked with jams, syrups, and every blueberry creation imaginable, each one carrying a little piece of the region's soul. There is something beautiful about a place that chooses one simple thing and perfects it. Bowerman's does not merely sell coffee--it celebrates harvests, local traditions, and the quiet joy of gathering around a table. You leave with a warm cup in your hands, a bag of blueberry treasures under your arm and a feeling of satisfaction. Some places are worth the drive. Some are worth the hype. Bowerman's on 8th is both.

We then ordered 6 large sheet cakes to be cut and served to our 300 guests. Our caterer pointed out the cake was not deliverd yet, at 30 minutes before ceremony. We had to call to get the cake delivered and it was all wrong....it was a styrofoam cake with buttercream frosting that was melting off in the July heat at our outside garden wedding and reception. We were also shorted one entire sheet cake. We met with Marcia 3 times to get what we wanted and gave her pictures. Luckily, we also had Ben and Jerry's Ice cream serving at the reception and some guests only had ice cream and no cake because we were shorted one entire sheet cake. We specifially ordered fondant on the styrofoam display cake so it would not melt, my daughter burst into tears with she saw her buttercream icing melting and exposing the forms underneath. Our caterer and photographer tried to fix the appearance for pictures. We had to pay the entire $600 up front and when I tried to contact Marcia after the wedding, she would never take any of my numerous calls. No response from letter I wrote. I should have sued her!
