This was my second time eating here and both times I throughly enjoyed myself. The food was delicious and the staff were really nice. Was immediately greeted when I walked in and seated. Their is plenty of tables to dine at. The windows allow for a lot of bright light to come in. I wanted something extra for my scrambled eggs and they were able to accommodate. We've been in the area for over a year now and I can't believe I haven't tried this place sooner! Everything was great -- highly recommend the chicken fried steak and my daughter would highly recommend the bacon she can be picky and actually ate the scrambled eggs (she usually would not touch it at any other breakfast places). If you don't have a military ID (or an ID that allows you to get on base), you will not be able to get to the restaurant.* This place is the definition of a greasy spoon diner. With limited seating, old wood paneling decor, OJ containers turned into water carafes, and a bar that has been repurposed as a hold-everything-but-conceal-none-of-it area, this patriot watering hole is only missing indoor smoking. My wife and I stumbled upon this place because we desperately needed diner food in our lives; spolier alert, diner food is exactly what we got. I ordered the breakfast burrito and she settled for just a cheeseburger and fries. The breakfast burrito came with salsa and crispy homemade homefries. The burrito was the perfect balance of meat, cheese, and egg stuffed into a delightfully soft yet chewy torilla (10-Stars). The cheeseburger oozed greasy goodness all over the place. The fries were nice and crunchy, but needed seasoning. The entire meal was delicious! Things to note: The diner is only open until 2:00 pm, so get there soon. Also, it fills up quick, so get there early. Don't seat yourself. If you do, prepare to be reseated by the staff. The staff appears to be family and there, from what I saw, are only three of them; however, that does not slow them down. We did not get the ramen but a lot of patrons did, so it must be good (I'll try it next time). The bathroom is old and very small. I do not recommend going in when someone else is in there, even though it can fit two. My wife described this place a chintzy in appearance and presentation. I agree; however, that does not take away from how delicious and tasty it was. We will defeinlty return for the Ramen. If you can get on base, enjoy. read more

S&G is a classic place to go on the Mainside Quantico Base. It is always full of people chatting up good conversations. The atmosphere feels as if everyone has there own lives going on, but they all came to get some good food. The service isn't always friendly, but they'll get you what you want & do it quickly. I ordered the breakfast croissant with egg, cheese, bacon and cheddar cheese. It was tasty and the croissant was nice and flaky. My friends ordered the French toast combo, bulgogi ramen and Philly cheesesteak. All three they said were average. read more

Came here for brunch with co workers and I ordered the breakfast burrito and it was stuffed with a choice of meat [bacon], eggs, green pepper, tomato, and I think onions. It came out all nice and hot with a side of hash brown. It was delicious. The place looks clean and so does their cups and utensils. Their prices are priced lower than their neighboring restaurants. While at Quantico for a 3-day training, I had several options to choose from for lunch while on base. Located at the corner of Potomac Ave and C St, my choice was made easy after seeing a flood of Marines walking into S&G. The sight of locals frequenting any establishment or restaurant while one is visiting from out of town is always a reassurance. And while at Quantico, uniformed Marines are obviously the most informed locals! Once inside, the restaurant has a comfortable feel that makes anyone feel right at home. S&G has that classic diner feel, with a classic diner menu. It even had a chalkboard sign proclaiming "All Day Breakfast." Always a welcoming notice! But unlike the typical diner where Greek or Italian fare is offered in addition to the usual pancakes, waffles, omelette and sandwiches, S&G has Korean food! Big plus! I ordered the bulgogi with fried rice. It was perfectly seasoned and was a very filling portion. Great food, great service and a great location. I highly recommend S&G! And unlike the absurd and laughable 1-star review below, I did not lose my AirPods and blame it on anyone else. read more

I've been here about 5-6 times and the breakfast food is fairly average. The pancakes aren't bad, the chicken/country fried steak is overly greasy compared to other places fried steak I've had, but still good in taste. The service is very hit or miss. I've been given attitude twice by the same server on different days due to that individuals error in taking my order. The coffee refills come slow and the prices aren't the best for a breakfast diner with below average atmosphere and service. read more

Wow, what a bad experience. I came to this place to share a breakfast, the food wasn't bad, regular American style breakfast. Waited for refills a few times, and had to make a line to pay before we left, not a huge deal. What got me was that by mistake I left my AirPods on top of my table, I left, and by the time I got back to my apartment, I noticed I didn't have them. By this time the place is close at 2. I look at find my device and it showed the last time it was located it was there at S&G, I go back the next morning at 0645 and I talk to a younger girl there who was waiting tables the day before including mines, she told me she hadn't seen it. I told her about what my tracker said and she was shocked and nervous that I could track it, but still deny seen it. I called later to see if the owner was there and she answered. I told her the tracker still pointed there, she asked if it was saying that about the last time it was on or present time "she didn't know I could track it, now she knows details" someone did some research. I go back to the place and she avoids me and has the owner tell me they searched everywhere. Here is my thing, my wife is a stay at home mom with 4 kids to care for, she did some small bake good sales on the side and saved up her money to get me this for Christmas, this is why this hurt so much. For a place who claims to support Marines, you sure as hell have people working there who will quickly take advantage of someone's mistake. Dishonest, trash! read more

Not sure how you could not like S&G. Cheap & delicious food: check. ... End of checklist. The service here is always friendly and very fast even for the dishes that "may take a while." I've only ever eaten breakfast here so I Can vouch for the Anaheim sandwich, the pancakes (both chocolate chip & plain), the grits, home fries, and Western Omelet. Highly recommend you stop in and try any one of those things for a quick and satisfying breakfast. Each time I've been to S&G has been with a group and I've yet to hear anyone complain about what they ordered. The only downside to S&G is that it's small. But, the fact that it's a small, quaint diner is what's sort of endearing about the place. It's definitely worthy of a visit the next time you're inexplicably in Q-town. Convenient location to Quantico Amtrak stop, I ate breakfast here with my father when he picked me up for a holiday visit. I can't say anything too good or too bad about this place. Its a plain ol' diner. Has a bit of a worn feel to it, but nothing that would sketch anyone out. Our server seemed to be having an off day because she seemed absent minded about several things with our order, and when we were clearly done with our meal we waited for a good few minutes before my dad flagged her down to say we were done with our meal. When asked for the check, our server unceremoniously pointed us to the front. To her credit, the dining room was pretty packed, but it was just surprising. I got the Anaheim sandwich, which was pretty ok. $5-6 for a big breakfast sandwich that I couldn't finish in one sitting. Yay leftovers! I don't remember my father's order, but he seemed to enjoy it well enough even though parts of his order were forgotten. If I was in this area again, I might look for another place more interesting/attractive and use S&G as a fallback. read more

The Bottom Line: Great old time feel in old time Quantico Town and a solid, cheap breakfast and lunch to boot. I caught a train early one morning into D.C. and stopped here for breakfast. The food came out lightning fast; I ordered the American Breakfast, though the poached eggs on toast are good as well. The staff is friendly, thoughtful, and if you are regular, which it looks like there are, they seem to even know your order! While I seldom go to Quantico, I would go again. This is a great little place for breakfast in Q-Town. It is a pretty small place just across the street from the VRE/AMTRAK station, and it has a very old-school, small-town feel to it.
