Ok so I'm not sure if this is the same owners or not. Also I'm not sure how they have 4 1/2 stars. Ordered the oxtails as they stated they were out of jerk chicken (5pm Tuesday) oxtails were dry and hard almost like it was old meat. At this point for $22 per plate I will chop it up as a donation because it was a total waste of money. Cabbage had no flavor and rice n peas were dry too. The service was blah, not really friendly. Sorry I will not be patronizing this restaurant again. We need some better restaurants in this area that take pride in cooking their food. read more

The owner answers the phone very politely and seems to work very hard from sun up to sun down making some damn good food. I never see any other workers when I go so that's pretty impressive. Pros: Porridge is freaking delicious !! I come for lunch as well and everything I've tried thus far was good. Ackee and salt fish is delicious as well. Large portions for breakfast. When you are compelled to do something normally it is in one's nature to go ahead and follow through and do it. Therefore, something compelled me to do a review before and after my experience. I can already tell from reviews that this place is highly recommended and that the owner works tirelessly to provide perfect food sun up to sun down. My friend and I wanted some Jamaican sit down restaurant and this place popped up on google. We both ordered Jerk Chicken with cabbage and omg... it was amazing. You get a lot of food for what you pay for. Definitely enough for 2 meals. The chicken was juicy and spiced just right. The cabbage was peppery and Smokey if that's a thing. Finally, a place where Yelp hasn't let me down. :) I was very suspicious when I decided to try this place out. I walked in, expecting to be disappointed, and to be surprise they offered cafe style full service with waitress. It was only a few tables in there, so it was only one server. She also doubled as the cashier, take-out person, and I reckon manager as well. I got the mannish water when I asked what was the soup of the day. The fact that they even SERVE mannish water made my heart skip a beat. I knew I was in for the real deal--was still shaking in trepidation at the taste. The waitress lovingly brought a sample of the soup. Heavenly. Got the oxtails, they came with plantains, and instead of cabbage, one can order greens, JA callalloo (as opposed to Trini callalloo) or kale. Opted for the kale. It was well seasoned, not overcooked, still firm, and sauteed with a light seasoning and onions. DELIGHTFUL. Portions were not the normal huge size one expects at a Caribbean establishment. Prices reflected a higher end cafe, but were only $1 to $3 more for most dishes and a whopping almost $30 for steak -- yikes! Cafe style, ok, but for $30, I dunno I'd rather have ambience along with good food. That's just me. All in all, the food was delicious. For dessert I tried the Sweet potato pudding. Not my favorite, I think too much allspice or clove?, but it was tasty nevertheless. I was too full to worry about that anyway. A Cup of sorrel is $5-- way too steep. Didn't try it. What else? Oh, if you don't like gospel music, they played gospel the entire time I was there. May or may not affect you. What DID annoy me was the take out people talking and just standing around while diners tried to enjoy meals. It takes away from a possible enjoyable atmosphere while dining in. My husband had jerk chicken and I had brown stew chicken. I was not impressed, the brown stew chicken gravy was watered down, no flavor. The rice and beans was dry and not much flavor there either. JT husband said the beef patty didn't have much filling, was dry and not what he expected. The only thing I would recommend this far is the coco bread and ginger pineapple juice. Fantastic! Found S&P here on Yelp and decided to take a chance and try it out. Came with a large party for a late lunch and was met with prompt and courteous service. Almost everyone in the group ordered something different and we were all delighted, impressed and wonderfully satisfied. The jerk pork was out of this world delicious, the curry/garlic shrimp was savory and flavorful and the jerk chicken perfectly hit the spot. The offered sides of rice, peas, kale, greens and cabbage were all well prepared and seasoned to perfection. To say the portions were healthy would be an understatement. My family and I went during downtime. Immediately when we walked in the woman in the back rolling up silverware was very rude. Even when she was asked about seating, she shrugged her shoulders and made no action to help us. We ended up grabbing our own menus at the counter. We waited for 15 mins before anyone came to take our orders at the table. Noted we were the only people there. Everyone else in the establishment was employees. My cousin wanted to order the salmon. He was told that they were out of seafood. In exchange for not having seafood, my cousin ordered chicken roti and the oxtail meal. Instead of the server writing down what he wanted, he told my cousin that that's too much food. Mind you, nobody asked him whether or not the meal was too much. We were given tap water that was room temperature. The food came out super fast and was warm rather than hot. Remember the roti? Well, when it was brought to the table the server took it upon himself to remove the chicken. It was just roti. I and my partner ordered the jerk chicken. It was overcooked, dry, and barely present. There was no seafood for my cousin, but a couple that came in after us was served shrimp. After waiting an additional 30 mins, my cousin got up and rung the bell at the counter to alert the staff about our check. On another note, my cousin's oxtail was tender and the restaurant itself was clean, but I won't be returning. read more

I've been there twice in the last month to order for my sister and nephew. The first time, I picked up curry chicken and a beef patty. The second time I picked up a curry chicken dinner, a jerk chicken dinner, and one beef patty. The first time, the beef patty was microwaved. YES, microwaved. The crust was not crispy and brown like it's supposed to be. The crust was soft and tasted like it had been microwaved. The male owner didn't have any patties left in the display case so he got one from the back and I'm convinced (since I've been eating beef patties for MANY years) it was mic'd. Not cool. Who does that? Please don't throw anything together for me/my people to consume just to try to make a buck. My sister said that the curry chicken was good enough to have again, so I went back a second time. It was a Friday and they were kind of busy, maybe 4 or 5 people waiting and one couple dining. All 4 or 5 of us waited too long for standard meals. The staff seemed a bit unorganized in the back. After one man and his family had placed their order, sat down and waited for about 5 minutes, a lady came from the back and asked him to repeat his ENTIRE order. I got the feeling they had totally forgotten about me for a few minutes since I received my food out of turn and the cashier/owner came out of the kitchen and looked at me as if she just remembered that I was waiting. My family thought the food was ok, but a bit pricey ...$10 curry and $12 jerk. I'll go back, but I'll call in my order and only get the beef patties that I can see in the lighted oven on the counter. read more

I was so excited to go to this place, I was craving Jamaican all day. I got there late, so in their defense I can't be grumpy because they ran out of curry chicken. Instead, I ordered the curry shrimp for $15.00. There were 6 shrimp on my plate and they were so overdone and rubbery I didn't even want to eat them, also they tasted as though they has been reheated at least 2 times. I ordered a side of macaroni and cheese $4.50. It was boxed macaroni and cheese (there is no mistaking kraft mac n cheese) doctored with a little seasoning salt. Gross, I was looking for tasty home cooking, not prepackaged stuff with more msg dumped on top of it. We ordered Jerk chicken wings $6.50 They were ok, not great. My total came to $31.00 - I didn't even notice until I got home that I had been over charged. I also noticed the "cook" through the crack in the makeshift kitchen door was plating my food without gloves. I should have known not to order from there when I saw that they can't even get it together enough to take the awful Christmas tree and decorations down by the end of May.
