I'm driving my Jeep Wrangler on Northern State Parkway on the coldest winter night. All of a sudden I hear a strange noise. My gauges say "Danger Will Robinson" When I tell you I am in NSP hell traffic? I don't want to be that guy on Waze, "car on the side of the road". Steam is starting to come out of the hood. I zoom on the grass and quickly get off at South Oyster Bay rd and see S&S Auto center. It's 7:30 at night, I'm cold and the gas station attendant says to leave the car. The mechanics will look over the car tomorrow. The next day I get a call, the main engine belt broke. It needs a pulley as well, we'll have it ready today and you can pick it up any time. The price seems a little high for what I was charged. However, they did a great job and got my Jeep operational in one day. Thanks S&S! read more

I came in for a low almost flat tire -- service person quickly filled tire with air then said to me if the air keeps going down bring it back -- I noticed 5 minutes later after I drove away that the tire was loosing air ( there is a tire pressure monitor from the dashboard--I had kept pressing the dashboard gauge to check the tire pressure-- It kept going down)-- I brought car back and the service person again very quickly removed the tire ( after asking me for the tire wheel lock thing...) they patched up my tire SO QUICK -- the fee was only $ 32 THIS PLACE is amazing read more

My review is technically for the Mobil and the convenience store that's attached. I assume it's the same ownership since it's the same address and property. I've never been a big fan of this place. The store is tiny with very few options. I've come in here several times and just did a few circles, hoping to find something I wanted, and then just walked out defeated. But what's more upsetting is the gas prices. I drove by here today and saw they were charging $2.97 for regular. I thought that seemed a bit high but I mean, it couldn't be too much higher than everyone else, right? So I drive about a tenth of a mile and the price is...$2.69?! What the heck? So I kind of just assume that I'm losing it, do a legal (no way for you to see what actually happened, right?) u-turn, drive back to confirm I saw what I saw, and yes, I did in fact see what I saw. They're 28 cents per gallon more than an effectively adjacent gas station. Are there diamonds in their fuel? Non-1980s baseball cards? How can they charge so much more? I then drive down the road to confirm that this is the aberrant pricey, and not the cheaper guy. Turns out that there's more fluctuation than I'd expect, but that no one comes within twenty cents of this Mobil. Completely absurd. So anyway, I'm dropping the one star for the moment, but I'll monitor going forward (or perhaps check one more time until my interest wanes). Perhaps this is an anomaly, as I can't imagine this place stays in business with such a disparity. We shall see. Update: Re-checked. Price is still thirty cents higher than the gas station within a tenth of a mile. Craziness. Second update: So I guess they just update their pricing way slower than everyone else. I came back today to check, and they were actually a penny lower than the adjacent place. Raising it up on star as the pricing absurdity of being way more expensive than everyone else is gone. read more

Very shady place. They refused to let me wait for an inspection. They insisted on me leaving the car with them for a few hours. This is a classic trick that other shady shops use so they can damage your wipers, tires, brakes etc and then demand you fix them to pass inspection. They lost my trust and my business forever. read more

This is the place to take your cars and have reliable trustworthy service. I've known Larry for 20 years, and he is as honest a mechanic as you will ever find. He will never tell you work needs to be done if it doesn't. As far as the negative review below, chances are the guy's car needed synthetic oil, which costs more. Took my Lexus in for oil change. They did what they had to do but why was it $60 for the basic oil change. A few months later the same car was taken to Mavis tire center on Jericho Turnpike just off of S. Oyster Bay Rd. and they changed the oil for $32. read more

I have been a customer of S & S since I moved to the area in 1997. I am a car guy and it is not uncommon for me to have 4-5 vehicles at my house at all times. Some are daily drivers and some are garage queens that rarely get driven. Needless to say, both types of use carry different problems. Larry will get me in and out ASAP. His quotes are usually right on. His employees pick me up and drop me off when I need to pick up or drop off a car. I know cars and usually, I can tell Larry or Steve on the phone ahead of time what is wrong. I have never had an experience like Gene and that is why I decided to leave my review. A review sites are a good way for someone with an "Axe to grind", I figure I can use this opportunity to praise S & S. I even took out triple AAA plus, so I can have my vehicles towed 100 miles for free so I know my mechanics can work on them and not worry. read more

This was my first time at this station for repairs. Dropped off vehicle last night for a total brake job and oil change, got a call first thing in the morning with estimate, job was finished a half hour earlier than expected (2:30 pm) and the price was exactly what I expected (fair), and what I was quoted. It was full rotor/pad replacement on a LR3 HSE - Land Rover would have charged almost double for the same exact work. Efficiency and honesty is what I need from a mechanic, and they passed that test today. This made me happy, as they are a short walk from my home, so they just earned themselves a loyal customer. read more

The brakes were making a clunking sound. They said I needed new brakes for $700. I said I would think about it. They charged me $98 for looking. I brought the car to Mavis, it was the bushings and cost $125. S & S are crooks. Don't trust your car to them. read more
