Went in for dinner with a few friends because we heard such good things about the food. We ordered fried calamari and spinach pie for appstizers. The calamari was great, loved their marinara sauce but the spinach pie was over done making the filo dough tough. Friends ordered the lamb shank dinner which they said was tasty. We ordered the origin and the Chicago style gyro which were okay but nothing to write home about. Dessert orderec was tarimisu and pistachio and walnut baklava. None of which h were impressive. Noticed the Big WORLD'S FAMOUS GYRO sign out front. walked in, very nice and friendly staff. awesome service. Unfortunately the gyro I got was really soggy, the meat and sauce was everywhere, not fresh, and the bread had a very distinct burnt taste to it. The fries were gross... This place was fantastic! I have been searching for an authentic Mediterranean place for a while now and have come up less than impressed. Saba's totally changed that though! Found this on Yelp, on a total whim - SO GOOD. I had the World Famous Gyros Pita, Emily had the Lemon Shrimp Pita, they were dee-liciius!! Tender gyro meat, soft tasty pitas. Mint tea was not too "minty" and refreshing. Seriously one of the best meals we've had in Phoenix. It was "ok", not too Mediterranean , wasn't impressed with their food as much as their menu, ordered the gyro and my husband had the shawarma, definitely not even a comparison to the original/authentic gyro and shawarma flavor texture that we are used to. Saba's has been my local Greek place for over 10 yrs, and it just keeps improving. It was never bad ,so this makes this place amazing. Everyone near Bell n Tatum knows how good it is because Saba's is busy on a Thursday not just the weekend. Great homemade hummus with fresh soft pita bread, terrific gyros sandwich and various great salad. My friend from Penang loves the lamb shank! It's been a year since we visited this part of town. Had to go and hit this place up as it was great the last time we tried it. They knocked it out of the park again. Service is impeccable. A great place to get takeout. The restaurant itself is nothing much- not a ton of atmosphere. They do, however, have great gyros. Their "world famous" gyros are only $5 each. They always taste fresh and they are filling. I also recommend their spanikopita and baklava (the walnut one). Their appetizer hummuses are not worthwhile. read more

Despite all the bad reviews we took a chance and went here anyway. I was pleasantly surprised. My wife and I shared the 3 combo platter, chicken kabob, shawarma and Lamb Kufta. I have to say it was pretty dang good. The baba and hummus were mediocre. I have had better for sure. The lamb could have been better quality but over all the food was good. Got a free baklava which was very good. I loved it. I would say one of the better ones i have tasted. I hate big flaky baklava, this was more like pastry dough, it was great. I would go here again. Outstanding Mediterranean food. Flaming cheese appitizer is a excellent starter. The lamb is normally served medium and I ordered it medium rare. It was cooked perfectly. The pita bread come two ways. As a fluffy light pita and the second a pita pocket which is thinner. Both are excellent and delightful to eat with your dinner. Gyro meat is very tasty. We've found our new favorite Mediterranean restaurant. Had the chicken shawarma, with the pesto hummus and Greek fries. Yum! The chicken was cooked perfectly and the flavor was amazing. The best Greek fries I've ever had. Still crispy despite all the toppings. I've never had pesto hummus, but I'm a fan now. Can't wait to return and try other things on the menu! Next time the Spicy Greek Fries. Another patron had the Flaming Baklava while we dinned, needless to say after that performance, we'll be trying that next time.
