I recently tried food from Athena Pita and was seriously impressed. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and made with quality ingredients. The gyro meat was perfectly seasoned, the pita was soft and warm, and the garlic sauce was incredible. Portions were generous, especially for the price, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. Food is amazing, I always get the Gyro salad. I recommend the fries as well, very crispy and full of flavor. If you are fortunate enough to find the Dubai chocolates in stock, jump on them. Staff have always been super friendly and make me feel welcomed and appreciated. They have quite a bit of seating, with both tables and booths with chill music playing in the background. I had high hopes for Athena Pita, but this was honestly a letdown across the board. First off, the kofta tasted way too similar to a McDonald's hamburger--completely missing that rich, seasoned Mediterranean flavor you expect. It just felt generic and uninspired. The shawarma? I'm not sure what's going on there, but it was incredibly dry. At this point, I'm starting to think "shawarma" must mean "dry" in Greek, because that's exactly how it came out. No juiciness, no flavor punch--just dry meat. Also, don't bother upgrading to the 3-combo plate. You'd think you're getting more variety or quantity, but it feels like they give you the same amount of food regardless. Definitely not worth the extra money. To make things worse, the food didn't look anything like the photos. What you see online is not what you get in person. And this might sound harsh, but consistency seems to depend on who's working. If the woman is at the counter, I'd honestly reconsider ordering--my experience (and others I've heard) was noticeably worse compared to when the man was running things. Overall, disappointing experience. There are way better Mediterranean spots around that actually deliver on flavor and quality. read more

Came in yesterday to get a souvlaki plate and a gyro sandwich. I'll just get to it and say that this by far the worst gyro I've ever had. The meat was very dry and flavorless. The tzatziki sauce was also very flavorless. The pita was dry I had to really fight to get through it. I love this Greek restaurant located in a strip mall facing west on east side of street because the food is actually, to me, remarkable (even the French fries are excellent) and food is prepared fresh after ordering. Portions are big so hub and I generally split a dinner. For example, garlicky chicken shawarma dinner served with flavorful saffron rice, Greek salad with homemade dressing and pita bread. Delicious Hummus very excellent since improving its flavor, gyros in pita bread and/or dinner perfectly prepared. Mustn't forget yummy homemade baklava, a crispy filo pastry with honey and pistachios. You can't go wrong with anything you order and the side of French fries is enough for two to share. I wish Athena would sell Greek fries with feta, tzatziki sauce and fresh dill that I recently tried at another Greek restaurant in Tempe, which was a real taste bud pleaser. Booth and table seating are available though I generally take my meals to go. When entering the restaurant, the lights are dimmed and you're welcomed by all the aromas in the kitchen. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. If you're unsure about trying a menu item, they will offer you a sample. No pets but service animals allowed and no outdoor seating. Remember to always tip not only because it's the right thing to do but the service industry relies on low wages and tips and it's one of the great way to say thank you. Lastly, shout out to Onella, who's taken my order several times. She makes homemade Dubai chocolate filled with a pistachio paste, gold tops the bar, not the 24K kind. A must try. read more

I ordered from this restaurant for lunch. A co-worker and I ordered over the phone. The co- worker picked up the order, when he returned, my order of upgraded fries were not upgraded. I took the order back to get the fries I paid additional money for and asked for fresh sandwich being that my ordlet was screwed up. I was denied the fresh sandwhich. The female Aneila or whatever her name is starting with an "A" was rude as all get out. No apologies for the error nor a here are your fries. Oh and hadn't I had to leave my work early they were going to not core t their error. This is the first and last time I will order from this establishment, just on unprofessionalisms and poor customer service. I will have to follow-up with the taste and quality of the f as I have not tasted it as yet. Part 2.. the food is mediocre, the upgraded fries are bland, and dry topped with feta cheese and a bunch of oregano on top. The lemon juice on the side helps it go down not as hard of a lump in your throat. The Gyro is dry and over-cooked, I thought the tzatziki sauce would help, but it's not tasty either. I order gyros frequently. If you are looking for a real good and tasty Greek food, with an authentic taste....this is not it. I would take back the one star if I could, that was for the customer service. Along with the bland food, it would bring it to a "0" rating in my opinion. No the place for me.
