We stumbled upon this place when my wife said, "lets go to that one place called 'Sabor somethin' somethin'". Good advice! Wonderful service and cold beer! Now, as a native New Mexican (happy Florida convert), I am always skeptical of "Mexican Food". This place delivered and has gained two mighty followers whenever the itch strikes. Took the family there (wife and two teenage daughters) while in Fort Walton on vacation. Service was great. The chips were amazing. Light and crispy. Cheese dip was good, ceviche was awesome and paired perfectly with those light and crispy chips. Taco Salad, EL pastor tacos, carne asada tacos, and Pollo Loco and it was all good. Ooooh yeah Sabor A Mexico sure hit the spot when we stopped for dinner. The menu has something for everyone, even vegetarian options! The staff was very friendly bringing out drinks and complimentary chips and salsa (YUM!) Our waitress was very good and answered any questions we had. The service was super quick! Our food came out shortly after we ordered it, steaming hot and smelling great! I ordered the Monterey plate which was great, it had a little of everything so I didn't have to decide on just one and risk FOMO. Between the enchilada, tamale and chili relleno, I think my favorite was the tamale, but all of them were delicious! My sister got the shrimp street tacos, and says they were equally delish! After having car trouble on our vacation, we went to Sabor A Mexico to sit while our car was repaired. our waiter/the manager Miguel was amazing, so encouraging and interesting to talk to! We got a chicken rice bowl, birria tacos, enchilada burrito and hard taco, and sopes (pork, steak, and chicken) and everything was very good! We had a fabulous meal at Sabor A Mexico tonight. Our server was excellent, fast and friendly. Chips were crispy and salsa very fresh and tasty. Shrimp fajitas were delicious, 12 juicy fresh shrimp and nicely chared vegetables. Tortillas tasted homemade. Chicked super Quesadilla was also great, full of cheese, tender meat and veggies. Horrible place to eat! Party of 8...3 of us got no food. The things we did get were not made made correctly. We got blamed for how we ordered our own food! We had to ask 3 times! This restaurant has friendy servers, but the food is pretty tasteless. My taco salad was shredded boiled chicken, shredded iceberg lettuce, cheese and tomatos with a dollop of sour cream on top. The bottom of the shell had 1/4" of water in it. It was tasteless and a mucky mess. My husband had the enchilada platter and said they were bland, too. If you just want the Friday 2x1 Margaritas, they're very good, as are the chips and salsa. Otherwise, try someplace else. read more

Just finished a late breakfast here. Had dinner at another "Mexican" restaurant up the road last night. By far enjoyed my breakfast much more than my dinner! I am a Mexican food aficionado. I cannot find authentic Mexican food around here (In Okaloosa in general-why????). This place is closest to authentic because the taste of the spices in the food is pretty good. The salsa they served was quite tasty too. I think it had habanero but wasn't so spicy as to ruin my meal. If you want real Mexican food, you will not find it around here. Good Mexican food is, for some reason, hard to find in this area. You'll read that all over Yelp. I was very happy with my experience at Sabor a Mexico. It's a little on the divey side, but don't let that deter you. They don't play mariachi music at 90 decibels, so the quieter ambiance led to a better dinner, in my opinion. Their menu had the greatest hits of Tex-Mex, but also features some great authentic items, such as tacos featuring tongue and goat (delish, trust me). I chose the California burrito and was treated to a gigantic meal that I finished in an amount of time that must be some kind of record. But we were so relaxed and having a good time, we had another round of beers and kicked it for a while instead of just paying the bill and leaving like we usually do. So while this place is approaching Greasy Spoon status, I think it works. They have good service, good food, it comes out fast and the value is great. I'll be back. read more

This is probably the closest you can get to authentic mexican food in Ft. Walton Beach. While the food is very good, the portions can be a bit small and the price can be a bit high. But what do you expect? You're in Ft. Walton Beach, not miami or san diego.... It is what it is. Haven't been to Sabor in about a year. Went yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to see the inside has been 'refreshed' with new (comfortable) booths. The menu is also new and improved! When I complimented the changes, we were told they are under new ownership. We will definitely become regulars. The new owner should put out a sign announcing it's under new ownership. Well, I read the two reviews on here and figured, why not. I had dinner last night and lunch there today so yeah, it was good. Last night I ordered the lengua taco's a la carte with a side of beans. Delicious! The tacos had plenty of meat with cilantro and onion. With a squeeze of fresh lime these babies were awesome! Paired with an ice cold Modelo Especial, I could not have asked for more at the moment. Total, under $11! Today for lunch I ordered the carnitas which comes with rice, beans and guacamole salad for sides. I also threw in a chili relleno with cheese on a la carte. The carnitas were pretty good. Not the best, but far from the worst. The chili relleno on the other hand was very unique and absolutely delicious. It was not breaded like most and had a red sauce on it that I have never had on Mexican food before that I found almost addictive. Since it was early in the day I ordered an ice water with this meal but all in all was just over $13. This place has very good service, great food and very good prices. As mentioned in another review, no liquor, just beer and wine. I am a beer drinker so I am ok with that. If you are in the area, check this place out. It is the real deal. I myself live in Virginia Beach, VA and you will NOT find Mexican food this good. read more

I really wanted to like this place because the staff is so welcoming. There was an open dumpster not far from the entrance, though, which should have clued us in to be wary. The 'ground beef' tasted like a mushy spam knockoff. The chips tasted like they were fried in old oil. Cheese dip is hard to mess up, but it also tasted bleh. If the quality of the food matched the quality of the servers, this place would have a much higher rating. read more

This is the best Mexican restaurant in the FWB/Destin area. The food is good, the prices are reasonable, and the service is great. Don't let the outside of the building fool you. It could use a bit of sprucing up, but it's the inside that matters. As they say, don't judge a book by its cover.
