Great service, and delicious food. The aguachile is a BIG plate of probably like 12-18 shrimp butterflied open and cooked in lime (see pic) They asked if I wanted regular or spicy, I opted for spicy so my aguachile camarones were topped with fresh jalapeños and a tasty chile sauce. Their menu has no photos but their wall does and spoiler alert: ALL of it looks delicious. I ordered the aguachile and the fried marlin tacos and my spouse got the taco del gobernador with camarones (though this was more like a quesadilla than a taco it was good). They also have like 5 sauces (3 of which are mayo based but if you're on vacation who cares???) These sauces vary from sweet to spicy and I would recommend them all as they tend to leave the food ready for a sauce if you know what I mean (read: needs sauce, but clearly they are proud of their sauces) I would go back and even fight for a table if I had to. Pricing is like regular conventional restaurant in Mexico, but seafood quality is better than conventional restaurant. Just returned from a two-week trip to the Yucatan, and this was the site of our last meal there. Don't let looks deceive you - the hole-in-the-wall appearance is great camouflage for a wonderful little seafood restaurant. We arrived around 5:30 pm (we were pretty hungry, and I was coming off almost four days of not eating due to travelers' tummy) and were seated immediately. The owner who surprised us with his impeccable English explained that his father-in-law is a fisherman on the other side of the peninsula and ships all the fish directly. First arrived a few yummy corn tortillas to enjoy with a variety of sauces. Then we had our marlin burritos - excellent fish, great seasoning, and very filling. We had hoped to return there the following night, but because of an impending snowstorm back home, had to cut our stay short by one day. :-( But we want to go back to Tulum and enjoy more yummy food here. read more

I hope your experience is better than mine. My wife and I came here because we read good reviews online. The food didn't taste bad, but I've definitely had better elsewhere in Tulum. The service wasn't bad at first, but the waiter took around 10 minutes to bring the check, even though there were only two tables in the restaurant. He also sneakily added an unlabeled ~15% gratuity without telling me, even though it is customary to tip 10% in Mexico, and more if the service is exceptional. I'm pretty sure he added money to other guests' checks as well. Had the waiter only brought the check in a reasonable amount of time, I may have tipped the amount he wanted. The next morning, I got awful diarrhea and painful stomach cramps. I was on the toilet for hours. My wife also got sick later that day, but not to the same extent. The ceviche was clearly the culprit because I ate about twice as much of it as she did. We know not to drink tap water, and were cautious not to do anything that could cause us to get sick. A few days later, my stomach has not fully recovered. I would not go back, and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. You can easily find food in Tulum that is much cheaper, way tastier, and won't make you sick. read more

We passed by Sabor De Mar once and decided not to eat there because it basically looked like an taco stand with a tarp roof and a few plastic tables and chairs scattered on the concrete. However, upon researching Tulum restaurants, Sabor De Mar received rave reviews...so we decide to give it a try and we were glad we did:) We ordered the fish tacos, which weren't my favorite because I prefer my fish grilled and this fish was fried, but my sister enjoyed them. For the main course, I ordered the Tuna Tostada, it was fabulous. Super fresh, artfully presented, generous portion size and felt like the perfect lunch on a hot day. You can tell the restaurant takes pride in the presentation of the dishes and the thoughtful combination of ingredients left me satisfied. My sister ordered the shrimp salad and again, this was very fresh and beautifully presented (see photos below) she was happy with her choice. The staff was friendly and attentive, although this is definitely another "slow food" restaurant concept in Tulum, but the food was definitely worth the wait. However, I wouldn't recommend going to this restaurant on a very hot day, because there is no A/C and you will stick to the plastic chairs. The ambience could be improved, but as far as the food is concerned, this restaurant offers fantastic value for your money (as the food is concerned) our check was $15! read more
