We order for graduations, bday parties, and any other catered events, they are decently priced and always great quality. I got the Carne Frita with Arroz con Gandules and Maduros and my sister got Pernil with Arroz con Gandules and yuca. I don't know which one I liked more! The prices are good here, considering this is a cafeteria with a few tables. The food is also really good, comparing it to other places with "Cocina Latina" around here. This place is definitively my favorite for greasy and salty Latin food. I've had the pernil (pork leg) and it was really good, and one time I ordered the chuletas (pork chops), which were OK even though they were fried on the spot. I will say that the rice and beans and plantains are really good, I would be happy just with that. I have seen that they have roasted chicken, and it looks good, so I may visit soon and get some, with some arroz con gandules (rice and pigeon peas). read more

Sabor del Caribe is located in a small strip mall on Curry Ford Road that is located between the Wendy's and the shopping plaza with the Publix located in it. I was getting an oil change at the Tuffy and figured this would be a good place to stop for lunch. Upon venturing in, I seen that it was rather nondescript inside, as well. This did not discourage me in the least, I have been to many of these cafeteria style latin food places and I fully understand and prescribed to the belief that the best of these places are always simple, humble type places. I stood by what I thought was the place to order and was ignored. Someone else walked over and approached where the food and were approached. So, I followed suit. I ended up going with rice, pernil (a Puerto Rican pork dish) and yuca. I also ordered a papa rellena, which is a potato ball with ground beef in the middle. I have loved these since discovering them in Miami decades ago. The pernil, rice and yuca was about eight dollars and the papa rellena was about two dollars. Not bad pricing and they gave a decent amount, but here is where I have to bring another Latin cafeteria type place just a few miles away. Where I finished this and honestly, could have put away some more, this other place, if you manage to finish it all, you will definitely be stuffed. Also, I think it is a bit less in terms of cost at this other place, but both are well priced. Ok, the pernil here was a bit overcooked and kind of dry. It definitely did not possess the sublime qualities of great pernil. I was debating between the pernil and the chicken and found myself wishing that I went with the chicken. I have decided to give it three stars. Service was indifferent, the pernil was dry and overcooked and probably from the day before as I was there just a tad before noon. The pernil did not taste fresh at all. If you are getting an oil change, it is not the worse place for lunch. But if you are looking for the best Caribbean hispanic type cafeteria, look elsewhere. read more

We just moved to the area. On two different occasions my mom brought Home some beef empanadas. They were very tasty and not heavy or oily. Well... a week or so later I went to get 3 empanadas to share with family. They looked different and were very oily. The flavor was still good. Well... I NEVER get sick from food. I can count 2 occasions in life, and this being one of them. I knew it wasn't anything Else I ate because because I had not eaten anything that day prior to. This was like around 11/12pm... it was the only thing I ate all that day because I got so sick after. I hate to leave this type of review on anyone's business but after seeing the review about the conditions l, I figured it would be important to share. Not sure if the oil was not fresh or what happened but needless to say I won't be going back. I got so sick that I don't even want to eat out food for a bit. Wow what a hidden gem. Came here starving and left absolutely satisfied. Got the Chicken stew lunch special and for $7.50 this is one of the best deals in town. The chicken was fall-off-the-bone and incredibly flavorful. The rice was a tad on the saltier side but still amazing. Plantain is also a winner. This is my new mofongo spot! I had the mofongo stuffed with pernil (pork), and it was great! The meat to plantain ratio was incredible! Bear in mind that they use chicharrones (pork rind bits) in the mofongo. Since they make the mofongo fresh to order, they should be able to exclude them if you prefer. At first serving they're kind of chewy, but upon reheating they melt away. I'm used to paying over $10 for mofongo. My order was less than $8 for a nice sized portion. Any time I see a sign go up that a new restaurant is coming to this particular strip, I think to myself, "Oh, look -- it's the next soon-to-be-out-of-business restaurant on Lamberton Blvd." There should be a warning in the lease agreement that odds are, you'll already be out of business by the time the paperwork goes through. This particular suite (#110) shares about half the blame, previously housing Red Mountain BBQ, Kebab Grill, and Quiznos, as well as some place called "City-Boy's Urban Cafe" that opened and closed so fast that I never actually saw it, despite the fact that I live down the street and pass by here regularly. Anyway, I digress. Sabor del Caribe is the new tenant, and based on the head count when I walked in, they're not too worried about becoming the next in a long line of Ghosts of Restaurants Past. It's a bit hectic in here, maybe because they haven't yet figured out a system to keep traffic flowing smoothly. People coming in, people leaving, people waiting in line, people paying, and people trying to get their drinks and utensils. Everyone is in each other's way. Walking in the door, I had to stop and look around for a few seconds just to figure out where I needed to be. How do I order something that's made to order? At the register? With the guy working the buffet counter? They might want to streamline the ordering process a bit -- there was a real disconnect between the ordering process and paying for the meal. The woman at the register had no idea that I had ordered but not paid, until I told her I needed to pay for my meal. There was no record of what I had ordered at the register. Had I been an unscrupulous type, I could easily have eaten for free. So I paid and sat down, and when my name was called I went up to get the meal. I ordered the pork mofongo, which was big and filling. I almost couldn't finish it, but it was delicious so I made it happen. The mofongo is garlicky and flavorful, and the pork inside and out was very tender. It's not my favorite mofongo in town, but it's great nonetheless, and the price is right; the mofongo and a drink cost a total of about $10. This isn't the only game in town, obviously. Rice & Beans on Alafaya and Estrella Latina on Goldenrod are both the same style counter service Puerto Rican restaurant. But if Sabor del Caribe can keep the quality up and keep people coming through the door, I don't think we'll be taking bets any time soon on the next restaurant to set up in suite #110. read more

I have been watching this place like a hawk to see when they will finally open, and the day has come. This is in the former location of Red Mountain BBQ and upon walking in you will see not too much has changed. They added some very nice murals of Puerto Rico and flags representing Caribbean countries, with Latin music playing in the background a nice and inviting space. We ordered the pork mofongo and also a dinner plate that consisted of chicken, yellow rice, and plantains. They have several combination platters to choose from, but selecting from the hot line is fast and easy. The dinner plate was very good. Yellow rice had pieces of pork mixed in, chicken was in a delicious tomato based sauce with spices and the sweet plantains were done just right. The mofongo took about 20 minutes as they are freshly made, but they had said 10. Turns out they were calling my name but the music was too loud so I didn't hear them. They apologized profusely, gave me my food, and offered us two free flan deserts. The owner also came by an apologized and lowered the music. They just opened so you can tell everyone is still getting their bearings. The chef came out and asked if everything tasted good. He was an older Puerto Rican man that did not know too much English, basically exactly what you would hope for in a place like this. Overall it was a great experience that I feel will only get better as they are open more days and the staff learns the menu. read more

Food is typically good here but my one complaint about the mofongo is... it would taste much better if you guys used small fried pieces of real chicharron instead of using chicharrones that you buy in a bag from the store. Add a little extra garlic and you'll have some of the best mofongo around. Overall... the food here is usually good and reasonably priced. read more

I have ordered Family Meal deals twice during the lockdown. This came with cut up roasted chickens , arroz con gandules , and a side of your choice . I also ordered Mofongo (so good!) It was good size portions, delicious and authentic Puerto Rican food. The delivery was fast and no touch.
