Just plain out good food with servings that will last you for lunch and dinner. So many options to choose from whether you are a meat eater or a vegetarian. Everything I had was delicious flavored and seasoned well. When we first arrive on a Sunday afternoon it was a little quiet and then the line begin to build up.At this point, it continued to be busy and I can understand why. Prices are extremely reasonable and I would come back any day for lunch or dinner. This place rocks! They offer a variety of Caribbean food and meats! They have over four different type of rice, over 13 different meat & flavors and lots of sides to satisfy any angry(hungry) person. You will not be disappointed nor let down with choices! Service is nice, friendly, fast, and easy! You choose your dish main and sides from the lines the you pay and get to sit down and enjoy! One down thing is that the seating area is small and it's located what used to be a gas station. Parking is big but like I said seating inside is small and may get full fast! My plate looks a bit messy because I ordered it from Ubereats and I was really desperate to start eating because the food smelled and looked so good. First bite did not disappoint. I got a delivery order from here and the food was absolutely delicious + they do a wonderful job at packing everything with care. For my main order I got a small combo with pernil, arroz con guandules, and mangú. The meal was affordable and the portions are huge. I enjoyed some cuts of the pernil more than other parts, but overall the combo was really flavorful and incredibly filling. I also tried their relleno de papa, pastel de guava, and one of their passion fruit juices. The relleno was yummy and not too greasy. The passion fruit juice was sweet and refreshing, pairing well with the meal. The pastel de guava was also very flaky with a good amount of guava filling. Overall, I was happy with my food! I've been here many times, just yesterday, so it's overdue for a review! A quick serve restaurant, order at the line and for $8.99 you get a hearty portion of a protein and two sides. I added one more side of maduros. Yesterday, I went with their roasted pork, yellow rice, pinto beans, and plantains. Delicious! This is a home cooked meal with depth of flavor and seasonings. A really great value! I can't think of any fast food option cheaper for this kind of quality! A variety of latin soft drinks and the American usual. They also have a case full of sweet treats for dessert. The staff was friendly and even let my husband sample the chiccharron before he ordered it. Note they also deliver via Doordash. I've ordered this way also, and they didn't skimp on the portion or quality delivered either. Inside? Pretty basic. Clean. About 15 tables inside and seating outside as well. One small no was I noticed a couple tables needed a wipe down. The bathroom was clean and updated. Overall, it is a great value, and you will leave full with likely leftovers. These people almost killed my wife. She ordered mixed rice via Uber Eats from these people. They never contacted me to tell me there was no mixed rice, and instead sent fried rice. Mixed rice has no shellfish. Fried rice does. And my wife is extremely allergic to even the smell of it. I was fortunate to have opened it while my wife was in another room. Closed it immediately, then took it to a separate room to take a picture of it for Uber Eats to refund me that money, then threw it away. This is the third time they do this with mixed rice specifically, and I've tried at different times of the day, so I'm convinced they'll never have it and will send any other random rice without even telling you. I would've looked the other way like before since they sent either white rice, or rice with pigeon peas. This time they risked my wife's health. I'm done with these people. Lechonera El Barrio Restaurant is a fantastic option for a meal if you are on Semoran Boulevard. It is not far from where Semoran meets with East Colonial Drive. The staff was extremely friendly and helped me navigate through their long line of food offerings. The food is placed behind glass and served by a friendly staff. There is nothing fancy about here, it has a long row of food offerings and a few tables. I chose to sit at a table outside after i received my food in a styrofoam takeout container. But the food is very good and I enjoyed a pleasant enough atmosphere, though the music was a bit loud. I opted to go with the perils, which is a pork dish. The lunch special came with rice and plantains. I also went with a papa rellena, which is a potato ball with meat inside. Both were very good. The total for this was just over ten dollars before a tip. All in all, this was a very good lunch. I would definitely recommend here and I give it five stars. read more

I was I the mood for Puerto Rican food while in Winter Park in Florida for business. I found this spot immediately and drove up to it. When you find a place that has the cafeteria style service, especially Latin food it's probably going to be good. If you know Puerto Rican food then you know of the many options, I can honestly say they had it all, I ordered arroz con habituales and cuajito (yellow rice with kidney beans with pork chunks and Latin style stewed pig instestine better know as chitlins) Don't knock it until you try it! Honestly the food was fresh and ridiculously tasty. I know Criollo cuisine rather well after being raised on it. The variety of different foods was just amazing, the service was fast and quick, the portions were really large and the price, two of us ate for under $23.00!!! Last time I was there I didn't see the menus on the tv or the prices, which can make it a little harder to order. But if you just point to what you want they'll help you. Love this location specifically for the huge variety of options on their buffet, they offer way more than the other Lechoneras in town. I ordered Oxtail in a stew with Guineitos ( Green bananas) and Pegao ( the crunchy rice at bottom of pot ) , my wife ordered Arroz con Gandules and pernil (roast pork) . Oxtail stew was on point the seasoning was perfect and the portion was huge. The pernil was very tasty and arroz con gandules was one of the best I had, they only issue I had is the I like my pernil cut up in slices and they serve it shredded, the cuerito was a little too hard. Otherwise the food is fantastically delicious. Again the portions are huge. I definitely recommend and will return soon. read more

She was so sweet and glad to accommodate my needs. On my way back my car had a delicious smell all the way through to my house that transported me to the days when my mom cooked (of course her food was better, ) her rice, her pernil and the "amarillos or tostones" that are called yellow sweet or hard plantains. When I arrived home, the food did not disappoint. The rice was soft and plenty, the pork was tender with juicy-sabor that it felt like I was at my moms house. I also ordered dessert--duh. There were several dessert options which was hard to decide, but I opted for tres leches (3 milk cake). I am sooo glad I chose the homemade Tres Leches. Omg, It was mouthwatering as I was salivating the faultless sweetness of this confectionary delight. Idk who made this cake, but they surely have a hand for it---therefore, they deserve 5 woop-woop and claps . The whip cream was soft and not overly sweet, same for the cake. It was pure perfection!! I would recommend that you go with 3 people and order 2 dinners to share so that you can try several entrees. I was embarrassed that I was only able to get 1/2 way through and had to throw the test away... what a waste of great food. This is my new go to Lechonera style restaurant, and its not just because it's close to me ;) Lechonera El Barrio has a wide selection of food, but to its high demand and popularity, expect food to run out quick! Lunch time is the ideal time to visit, as towards the end of the day, they tend to run out of some of the selections, and right at opening, not all the food items are ready. I've tried the pepper steak and the chicken, along with various sides, and I have been satisfied every time. Drinks are not included in this all day combo price, but are available for about an additional dollar. The food, especially meats, tend to be more on the oily side, but at $4.95 for a plate with rice, meat, and a side, you can't complain! Plus, it is Obama approved :) read more

Came here while I waited for an oil change at Ruben's Tires after one of the mechanics recommended it. It definitely didn't disappoint! It was a short walk from Ruben's, about 5 minutes each way. The staff was friendly and welcoming. I had the cilantro rice with pollo guisado and tostones, which was phenomenal. Portions were great and it was around $10. I ordered two plates of Arroz con Gandules and Pernil. At other places in Orlando and Kissimmee that I have been to it either comes out with dry meat (from sitting) or overcooked rice. Neither here. I always pass this place but never stop and try it but i finally did today for the first time and the food I had was good which was Teriyaki Chicken with cilantro rice didn't get no sides cause it wasn't any thing there I wanted. The chicken could've definitely use lil more teriyaki sauce, the terryaki sauce was dried out due to it sitting on the heat for such long period time and the rice was fluffy, soft and perfect love the cilantro flavor. The service was great, wasn't no lines, it was clean could've been tidied up some more especially the dining area, it had some napkins on the ground and food crumbs under the booths. We love this place and food is always delicious but unfortunately lately there has been an employee that tries to charge us extra, so far it has happened to me twice, to my sister and recently to my parents. This has to stop the last time they tried to charge us over $40 extra, previously was $20 and another time was $10. Hopefully management will do something about this if not it will be time to start driving to the Kissimmee area to get good Latin food. read more

The service was good but there is one guy who was acting like he didn't understand what I was saying. I asked for mofongo and was told 10 minutes so I pay for it and wait. I waiting 15 minutes just trying to be patient and when I ask I was told 15 more minutes. Everyone apologized a lot but my husband ate alone and ended up having to take my food to eat in the car because by them I had to go. Not a good first impression. Having spent a few years in the island of Puerto Rico, and having experience the hospitality of their people, has made a true fan of their culture and their food. It is no surprise to find me looking for the latest down home Puerto Rican hang out, I just love Puerto Rican food. It is in this island where I learned to eat whole pork and roasted pork legs, and those flavors have stayed clearly imprinted in my taste buds. Knowing that Orlando has a rather large Puerto Rican community is no secret either, but finding a good Puerto Rican restaurant, with tasty food, has not been that easy. That is why when I saw the words "lechonera" in the name of this business, I felt that something special was happening here. So, like a true explorer and foodie, I took advantage of my latest trip to Orlando to stop by. Lechonera El Barrio Restaurant is located on a somewhat old part of Orlando, and it is a bit dilapidated. I think this area serves primarily to Hispanics of many nationalities. The restaurant itself is on the "hole on the wall" side of things, with tables for customers and a food tray counter where you order your food. There is a fridge with drinks, a TV screen, and restrooms for patrons. It is all rather old and over used, and you can tell this place has humble beginnings. I ordered some "lechon w/ arroz con gandules", and some "chuletas w/ arroz y habichuelas". These came with a side of maduros and tostones. Everything is served on Styrofoam plates and you pay before you sit down. I wanted to order a Cola Champagne but refrained from the sugar rush, and I had water instead. About the lechon asado, well, it was magic. Amazing flavors, lots of fat, crunchy and tasty skin, exactly what you dream of. The chuletas were cooked in a stew, and they were also very tasty but typical pork chops. The arroz y habichuelas were on the average side, as was the arroz con gandules. Since I am very critical, I did not think that they were amazing, but still really, really good. The maduros were amazingly good though. But to make things clear, let me ask myself this question: Will I come back? Of course I will. I have been haunted with images of roasted pork after I digested my meal. It is one of the best pork I have had in a long time. Enough charred meat, lots of sofrito and adobo taste, pork fat, crunchy skin, it is just an unrefined and barbaric dish that brings your primeval instinct afloat. The staff girls here are helpful. The patrons are decent. The area is quiet even though it looks a little bit intimidating. You can always take out, like most people do. You see a lot of European cars parked outside, so affluent people live nearby. This Lechonera is one of those places where people of different strides (or walks of life) meet, as well as visitors, like me. Don't be afraid to stop by. read more
