Hubby raved about how great this place was whenever he was on business trips in Tucson. So tonight, while visiting, we ordered seafood tonkotsu ramen and bbq hoke fish from them. I don't usually write review unless it is really bad but they were beyond bad. 1. We were told the fish would be longer so we got there exactly 40 minutes after ordering. However, we kept being told our foods were not ready so we wait another 30 minutes in the parking lot 2. Got back to hotel and found many items which were supposed to come with the food were missing. Ramen was missing the Californian roll and all the seafood was over cooked. Shrimps were so tough it was tasteless like rubber. 3. Hoke fish was very fishy and tasted unfresh. The dish was to come with salad, miso soup, California roll and rice but we only got rice. We took the left over out of the hotel room so it wouldn't stink up our room. I am just hoping we won't get sick from it. What a waste of money and time this place is. Hubby said it must have gone down hill from what he knew of it.... read more

I don't usually don't have bad experiences in restaurants but I recently had a bad experience in sachiko sushi restaurant. I ordered for the first time a miso chicken ramen and I didn't like the flavor and the consistency of the chicken. I literally had two bites and let the meal intact. I asked the server if I could have a substitute and she said no. She was saying you ordered this meal and you have to pay for it. Then I responded that I didn't like the meal and why I had to pay for something I didn't like. The server and manager were not accommodated and stated no one has ever complained of this dish. The didn't give me any refund back and they kept arguing with me. The costumer has also the right to substitute something they don't like. This is called costumer satisfaction. I'm really torn about this place. On one hand, I had a fantastic meal here and truly some of the best sushi I've found in Tucson. On the other hand, it was pricey as can be and the fact that this place offers no sushi specials, happy hours, etc. really makes me wonder how they can expect to compete. I came in on a lunch break and ordered a vegas roll, spicy tuna, and spicy eel rolls. They wanted me to use the paper and pencil provided, but two of these rolls were not on it. The waitress, when she took my order, just wrote them at the bottom. Strange that they wouldn't have updated those things. Ok, no big deal. The place has a nice ambiance, somehow feeling more authentic than other sushi places--like this might actually be what a sushi place in Japan might look like. All the people who work here are Japanese and so were many of the patrons...I felt in good hands. My sushi came and it was magnificent. Really fresh fish, great flavors. Even the wasabi seemed to have a better texture than at other places. All was well. Then the bill came. I had 3 rolls and an Iced Tea. After tax, I paid almost $30. Eeeesh. That's a bit much. I paid, and before walking out asked one of the waitresses if they ever have any specials or happy hour, she pointed me to the lunch specials. Not exactly what I meant. The lunch specials are not sushi-focused. The best you get is like chicken teriyaki AND a california roll. Not what I'm coming to a sushi place for. I feel like every other sushi place has some sort of gimmick that they offer be it all-you-can-eat or half off rolls during X hours, etc. Not this place. I kinda get why, too. The sushi is exceptional. I get it. But for that price, Id probably rather go somewhere else most nights. It didnt seem to be hurting their business, the place was not crowded, but it was busy during weeknight dinner hours. I've been here a handful of times and I can't pin point what it is I like about Sachiko. If I had to label it, I'd say it's average. I will say, the Miso soup is spectacular. I've heard from friends it might be a bit salty, but it was perfect for me. OH, this is what I LOVE about Sachiko. They don't charge you for miso soup and edamame. It is complimentary with any order. Thank goodness! I am from L.A. and sushi restaurants there don't charge either! It was a surprised when I saw both items on the menu with prices next to them. I guess I'm not in California anymore...... :( Haha. As far as sushi goes, my favorite all time roll is the Supreme or Ultimate Las Vegas roll. As far as nigiri, salmon is nice, fresh, and cold. For me, fresh, raw fish has to be eaten cold, and this is one of the few places where they serve it cold. There was a time where I tried the Rainbow Roll and I wasn't too happy with it. It was a typical California roll, however, the crab wasn't mashed up, it was just cut from the package, and the fresh fish on top weren't great either. I typically stick with the fried rolls and the nigiri. If you're not a sushi fan, their fried oysters are REALLY tasty. It doesn't taste like shell food at all. We usually get mayonnaise and sriacha hot sauce to make a sauce to dip it with. PERFECTION! Oh and their bowl of noodles are very flavorful too. One of my top favorite sushi bars in Tucson. The menu is extensive along with lots of specials posted around the dining area. As a sushi traditionalist, this sushi represents some of the freshest, mildest, sweet tasting sushi in town. Plenty of rolls to choose from. The staff works as a team. A couple special things about Sachiko, they offer rice paper for those looking to keep their sodium levels down and they offer brown sushi rice on request! Of course there is a full menu for those who don't want sushi, but if you are going to try it for the first time, Sachiko is a great place to go for it! read more

Hello... is it me you're looking for? Yes, Sachiko Sushi! I have been searching for someone like you! Someone who's the real thing. I got take out but I'd definitely be back to dine in. There are several sushi chefs behind the bar. The menu had a list of lunch specials. There are also signs with specials all over the restaurant. I ordered a iced green tea, a ten don (as in tempura donburi) and the Arizona roll. Everything (including tip) was just under $20. Green tea was made from macha powder... delicious and refreshing. Ten don had hot crispy tempura and sweet sauce over rice. The sushi had very fresh fish. I grew up in Hawaii and I know my fish! Service was great. The servers were attentive and sweet. They offered me water and a seat while I waited. They were busy checking on tables in the restaurant. There's also a location on E. Valencia near the airport. read more

Ok well i Truly want to be a regular and love this place but after the sheer disrespect i will not return. Myself my wife and my mom as well as our daughter chose to eat here and my mom cannot eat onions we explained that too the waitress and she acted as though "you'll eat what i make and like it" so she ordered and her order wasn't even remotely close . we explained she cannot eat this due to the onions and such. The waitress ( an older lady) argued for several minutes about what we had ordered and refused to fix it we spoke with two other waiters and they made the decision to correct the order. after the new food arrived My mom was elated she clean both plates dry. But sfter all this time myself and my wife had finished and she was eating alone so needless to say a very unpleasent visit and I've given this place to many second chances I will Stick to Takamatsu & Ichiban for my sushi and japanese style cuisine read more

Been coming here for year. Keep trying other sushi houses in town that are closer to home. They pale in comparison and make me want to return to Sachiko and never try another again. It's not in my neighborhood so it's a drive to get there. But it is well worth it. Grade A fish. Portions are good. Specials are adventurous. Service is good. I've tried them all and can attest that Sachiko is a Tucson favorite. The location by the airport is just as good and the fish is the freshest you can get in town. read more

I LOVE this place! Best sushi in town. Always fresh and a large selection so you can always try something new. The staff is very friendly and the service is fast. The free miso soup and edamame are delicious! Many times I have left here feeling like that was the perfect sushi meal, until I come back next time. It is a little pricey (hey, it's sushi!) and there is no happy hour, but they do send coupons in the mail, so that saves. I would recommend this place for sure! read more

For the record, I'm usually too lazy but I felt compelled to write this review. Not sure what all the other rave reviews are about because service is terrible and the food isn't even close to being authentic. Trust me, I'm from Japan so I know what I'm talking about. I went in by myself and was standing for a good 5 minutes before being seated. While I was standing, the sushi chef and staff all noticed me standing there but paid no attention to my presence. There were many empty tables so it wasn't like they were extremely busy. Once seated, nobody came to ask about my drink for 10 minutes and I waited for another 10 minutes to have my order taken. No one stopped to check on me and I had to ask for a refill on my tea. I saw several large parties that came in after me got seated right away and their orders taken pretty much right after they seated so that tells me if you go there alone you will be ignored just like me. I saw another reviewer complaining about getting awful service when she went by herself. I guess if you don't go with more than two you're screwed. There was this male server who was extremely rude when I asked for my drink. He pretty much ignored me and walked away. Good luck staying in business because with such poor customer service and bad food it won't last long. I'm so glad I'm moving back to Japan so I can finally eat authentic Japanese food instead of this garbage. read more

This review got put on the "back burner" for a bit because WOW was I busy after I got home from Thanksgiving. But anyway, we were back in the Old Pueblo on Black Friday after visiting family and all that shopping left us hungry. Now normally when I'm in this part of town and I'm in the mood for sushi, it's a no-brainer and I head straight for Kazoku. But it was really close to their closing time for lunch so we needed a closer option. We had seen Sachiko before as we shop at the Trader Joe's in the same shopping center so we decided to give them a shot. Service: 4/5 No specific complaints about our service, and nothing really stood out. We were seated promptly, our order was taken quickly, and our water glasses were kept full. One sort of odd thing I did notice though was the "host" jumped behind the sushi bar on a couple of occasions to help fill sushi orders. Now perhaps this isn't strange at this restaurant at all and he is a fully trained sushi chef also, but I can't say I've ever seen something similar at any of the other sushi bars I have eaten at, and I've sampled a lot recently. Like I said, just a bit odd. Food: 4/5 While I would still not call myself an expert, I am becoming more and more familiar with sushi and Japanese cuisine in general. So I'd like to think I have a much more informed opinion than I did a year ago. Overall Sachiko prepares pretty good sushi, but I did have a couple of complaints. One of the cooked rolls we ordered (Arizona roll, I think it was called) just had way too much rice. You could barely get a piece all in your mouth at once, which is how sushi is supposed to be eaten as I understand it. The other thing that bugged me a bit is that they put scallions and lemon on their nigiri. Now again, I will confess I could be wrong here, but at every other sushi bar I have been to, nigiri was just simply the fish, rice, and a dab of wasabi. That's why I love it. It is simple and the fish really shines. I found these "extras" detracted from the fish and ended up scraping them off after I ate the first bite. Perhaps I'm being overly critical, and perhaps I still have more to learn about sushi preparation. Aside from those issues, the food itself was good. My wife was happy with her rolls and the preparation was definitely good. Overall Impressions: 4/5 Not much specific to add here, just another "solid" 4-star experience. The prices were in line with what I have come to expect for sushi. The selection of rolls and other items was good. The atmosphere was typical of what I have come to expect from sushi bars in Tucson. Honestly they all kind of look the same to a certain degree. So overall nothing really "stood out" about Sachiko, but it was a worthwhile experience. The only "downside" is they are so close to Kazoku I don't really see myself going back so long as Kazoku is available. :) read more

Fast and friendly service! My first meal was on a 30 minute lunch break. I had time to enjoy a bento box and make it back to work refreshed, full and on time. The second time was a date with my dude during dinner. I enjoyed this more because we were able to admire all the little qualities that make this sushi joint a tiny treasure. It might seem odd looking around at all the white copy paper displaying the restaurants specials in magic marker but I quickly found myself wanting to order some of what was displayed. In addition, they list prices behind the sushi bar which makes ordering easier after the first round when you no longer have a menu. We ordered The Mexican roll, vegas roll, salmon nigiri and octopus nigiri. I was surprised to find they add a drop of wasabi between the meat and rice, as not many places do anymore. The treat was the bluefin toro. I'm not a big fan of tuna but this cut was fantastic. Being just down the road from our place, I'm thinking this will be a recurring spot for good sushi! The service was excellent as well. I accept, and actually enjoy, that we didn't have a chatty server during our date. As soon as we were done with a dish, it was cleared from our table. I love sachiko, its a mellow sushi place that serves sushi and has a traditional dining experience. I usually go in the evening because I favor one of the sushi chefs that is younger. He is funny, and comes out of his shell when talking with you unlike chefs at other sushi places I have been to. Anyhow, I totally love the miso! But my favorite thing to get here is the super california! Amazing roll, its not on the menu so you have to ask for it. Next up the mussels are great for $4.95 you get 3 of them, done with the masago and roe. The chef even cuts the pieces so that you don't have to slurp that huge ass thing into your mouth. This is right in the parking lot with Trader Joes so before shopping hungry why not take the time to enjoy some good food! read more

Man, I have been a loyal Sachiko Sushi customer for years, and I'm actually a little disappointed to have to update my review with fewer stars. Until recently, I had been coming every week for lunch and every once in a while for dinner. But my last few visits have been disappointing. Sachiko has a great set of lunch specials, fast service, and great prices. I always like having a place I can go where the staff seems happy to see me and remembers what I like to order. But here are the issues I've been having that caused me to drop the star rating since the last review: The fish has been bad. That's a big one. If not for my long-time love of this restaurant, I would give a much lower rating for this and would be seeking sushi elsewhere. On my last few visits, the fish has not been fresh or firm. Usually there's no food on Earth that compares to the buttery richness of a raw piece of salmon. But the salmon has been mushy and flavorless. The rolls have not been constructed very well. I see the same gentlemen working the sushi counter, but the quality has slipped considerably. On two recent visits, the rolls would not hold together at all and were very difficult to eat. Today one of the end pieces of my spicy tuna roll was pinched together so as to contain little or no spicy tuna. I waited and tried again, and waited, and tried again, hoping that they would improve before I couldn't stand it any more. But now I've reached the point where I have to find another place for my lunchtime sushi fix. Will I come back to Sachiko? Yes. But it's going to be a while before I'm ready to see if they've finally fixed these problems. read more

I have been here multiple times, probably my favorite east side sushi joint. I always order the spanish mackerel - mackerel is not for everyone, but it is very fresh and well prepared here. I also enjoy the jalapeno/ blue crab roll, the Oregon roll, the spicy yellow tail and the yummy yummy roll. Keep an eye out for the specials (they have them posted all around the restaurant on hand written signs. The only non-sushi items we've ever ordered was the chicken fried rice and seafood udon. Just had dinner at Sachiko with my wife and daughter. The fish is pretty fresh ( we are not in Tokyo and the ocean is not visible in Tucson:)). That said, it is a good as it gets here. There are always a number of specials at very low prices. We had yellowtail toro which was wonderful, and a lobster roll that we loved. The tuna toro and white tuna (albacore) were also excellent. The restaurant is a strip mall joint with a diner like interior. A small price to pay for first rate sushi and low prices. read more

My family and I go here every other weekend due to its consistency, great service, and amazing food. Our favorites here's are the spicy tuna hand rolls, squid salads, and teriyaki chicken. The sushi was actually good, but completely negated by their awful awful service that didn't even let me enjoy their food. My boyfriend and I got there 35 minutes before closing, and planning on getting only sushi and the restaurant being mostly empty, thought this reasonable. Within a minute of sitting down, the waitress asks if we're ready...as i look down at the blank sushi menu with the pencil in my hand. Another waitress came back not even a minute later. We received our food quickly, and then almost immediately after they brought our check. They started turning lights off with 15 minutes still before closing, including a lamp right next to our table. So I was told that this place was amazing. I compare every sushi place to my favorite (Happy Sushi in Novi, Michigan) and I have been to many places across the country from "strip mall" sushi to fancy fancy celeb's go here etc. I will say this place starts out & nice giving edamame & miso. I like the tuna roll and salmon nigiri. Not a fan of all the seeds they put on the outside. I think the california roll could really use some mayo or something to jazz it up. The fish was very fresh and it felt like a very authentic Japanese place. i lived in Japan for 3 yrs and I prefer the mom & pop sushi places over the "see & be seen" trendy spots. When my parents are in town, they love to come to this place. Mom gets gyoza, udon, tempura or sukiyaki and is always happy. Updated 11/26: went on a busy Friday night with friends. While the fish was still very fresh & tasty, the sushi was not put together very well & the service was slow. When an establishment closes at 9 pm and you arrive at 8:30 and are told rudely that it is "last call" and they are only doing takeout, this is an establishment we will never visit again. There were empty tables available and no explanation for being turned away - not even an apology. We live on the eastside and were excited to find this place, although Korean owned and not even as close to the quality and service of Sushi on Oracle that we often drive over 40 minutes to because it is the best sushi we have found in Tucson. We were initially impressed enough by this place to make it a go-to when we didn't feel like a long drive. Definitely never again. So disappointed. read more

This is probably a weird thing to rave about, but bear with me. I went to the Sachiko to have a quick bite, and wound up with a spicy tuna roll and, after some debate, the seaweed salad. The spicy tuna roll was quite tasty, but it was the side dish that was the star of the show. You know how in Pokemon, each animal starts off looking kind of bland and unimpressive, but eventually bulks up into a towering beast studded with spikes and cannons? Well, Sachiko's seaweed salad is the legendary evolution of the stuff served at other sushi places. Instead of a tiny tray littered with green goo, you get a softball-sized bowl filled with glittering emerald seaweed. And chunks of cucumber. And sprouts! And fish eggs! And a freaking lemon! This salad's got it all, man. It makes the seaweed salad served at other restaurants look positively wimpy by comparison. My only beef is that the chef, although quite skilled at his work, was distracted and dismissive, almost to the point of rudeness. I've had friendlier service at other restaurants, I'll just say that. Nevertheless, the food is quite delicious, and the seaweed salad is a transcendent experience. After you've had it, everything else will look like soggy green strings in vinegar sauce. read more
