It was okay.. I was really excited because the reviews seemed to be really great and someone even said it was the best sushi on the east side. However, I do think going down to samurai sombrero food truck is actually much better and more flavorful. The sushi here didn't have any flavor, and it didn't taste as fresh as I'd hoped. The service was pretty slow and they weren't really that friendly. The environment seem to be a bit unprofessional with random papers hung up all over the walls behind the sushi bar. My parent ordered out some nigiri today and brought me some since I love this place...... who ever is prepping and serving the sashimi is not doing it properly... and you can taste it. Stopped in here with my dad (who's not a big sushi fan) and we a had a great time. staff was friendly and attentive, the restaurants casual and comfortable, and the food was fresh and fantastic. We had the small sushi tray and an order of takoyaki, the takoyaki was great probably the best I've had, and the sushi was so fresh and skillfully prepared, some of the best I've ever had. Cheap food and drinks with ample parking. I highly recommend trying the strawberry flavored cloudy sake with your meal. I had their Takoyaki just don't expect the sizes to be the same from authentic Takoyaki. Kid friendly and servers were quick with the orders. An amazing extensive menu, so many options. I had the lobster roll which was so big and fresh. My daughter and friend had avocado rolls. They said they were amazing compared to other sushi places they have been too. My husband got the fried Rice he wasn't the biggest fan felt like it didn't have much flavor but still fresh tasting. This is the very first negative review I have ever written. We sat at the sushi bar. my husband put $10 in the tip jar. both chefs looked at it, saw it, and neither even said thank you or even a nod or a smile! The wait staff do not acknowledge you exist. Won't speak to you or even try. We say thank you sincerely, for everything, crickets... no, "You're Welcome", they try to avoid eye contact so you can't ask for something you would like. Standard food at the very best! They all seem like they hate their jobs, their life, and their customers! I have probably been there 7 times... We will never go back to be treated poorly and pay for it! They don't even have an itemized receipt. We asked for a receipt and got a piece of paper off a calculator ribbon? This place is a hidden gem of Japanese authenticity! Have been here every time I've visited Tucson (my son is at UA) and every time we love it. I think we've been here at least 10 times and if I lived here, I'd come 1-2x/week easy. I'm not much of a sushi person though my son does order it from time to time and says it's great. I much prefer the Japanese teppanyaki or hibachi offerings tbh. I love their beef teriyaki which is a New York steak marinated and grilled then sliced and served on a sizzling hot plate with veggies. It is NOT your typical teriyaki beef on a bed of tired rice! It's also accompanied by miso soup and a light salad to start and then a cup of fluffy steamed rice. My son always orders the saba shioyaki which is the whole half fish! It's his favorite from when he spent a summer in Japan and why he loves this restaurant since they prepare it very much the same. We always get a bunch of appetizers, his favorite is the takoyaki and I'm good with edamame. Service is pretty fast and attentive, several people often come around to see how you're doing. It's definitely a busy restaurant, lively, and with all the Asian decor and art, which I love (check out their glass case when you come in, fascinating stuff in there), down to the papers posted all over the walls with menu offerings and prices, feels just like I'm in Japantown in San Francisco or in Tokyo. read more

Not sure why I've never tried this place. I met a friend for lunch and it did not disappoint. The front entrance is sort of misleading. There's a sign that says to wait outside to be seated and the place looks tiny. But it's a lot larger inside than it looks. We opted for a couple of lunch specials. I had sashimi and a spicy tuna roll. It's was good. The roll looked a bit rough/mangled but it tasted good. I'm assuming due to Covid they come around and pour soy sauce in a dish for you and then take the bottle. I didn't love that because I like to mix my sauces and that didn't allow me to do it. After we were sat, we were not approached by anyone. No communication between host and servers, I don't even think they knew we were there. New customer. Really wanted to LOVE this place, so I'll give them another chance (hopefully) at some point. Fantastic ambience, very "Mama-San", enjoyed hearing employees speaking Nihon-go to each another. Low-key feel, it was busy at lunch even on a week day -- aging paper signs with traditional specials were taped up everywhere. I felt tolerated while waiting for my to-go order, sat at a table...perhaps I should've waited outside? But it was HOT. (( too hot to order raw fish & carry it some blocks back to Mom 107F )) Got 2 bento boxes to go, both Tempura, one #vegan, both were supposed to come with POTATO SALAD. Got less filling cucumber salad instead (substitution w/o saying anything). Along with seaweed salad on top. Also a bummer since I luv JAPANESE potato salad (different than American) and hadn't had it properly done in a long time. The vegan roll comes w/ pickled carrot. While I'm a big fan of MANY Japanese pickles (oshinko)...this isn't one of them. Lol. Sweet potato tempura was slightly underdone. Shrimps were good (I eat the tails too). Vegan stir-fry was utterly flavorless. Wasn't quite filling enough for me overall. Needed a third dish. However, prices seemed fair. Eating out is a big treat for my family, and finding this restaurant was a big deal (on the way to a TJ's). We are often only out to get to doctor's appointments, serious health issues going on, so each opportunity matters. At least, thank you for packing everything very safely! I ordered $100 of takeout thinking that they would have similar food to the location on Valencia-BIG MISTAKE. The vegas roll is fishy and made with salmon-clearly the salmon isn't very fresh. The yakisoba and fried rice has no flavor whatsoever. The California roll isn't even good-super mushy. How do you mess that up? The spicy tuna roll has no spice to it. I drove 45 minutes round trip to pick this up and I want to cry right now. This is the worst experience with takeout that I have ever had. Our family has been coming to Sachiko for over 6yrs. We love this place, from the staff to the cuisine. They have the best authentic teriyaki none of this bottled, overly salty, gooey, or overly sweet situation. Their soups are divine and the sushi never disappoints. Outside from the traditional Japanese menu they also offer some other fun items such as Tofu Kimchi and Bulgogi. No matter what we order we are never disappointed, which is no surprise we have become quite the regulars. read more

So I'm the guy who went looking for sushi on Christmas. Let's just get it out of the way right now, I broke the cardinal rule of holidays and gave a place a reason to open. But, it was worth it! Walking into Sachiko I didn't expect much, Tucson isn't exactly known for its sushi. As with most other restaurants I figured I'd stop on for a beer, shooter, and some spicy tuna something. Boy was I wrong... Sat at the bar and got the classic sushi restaurant nod and grunt from my chef. The waitress took my booze order as I stared in wonder at the paper signs showing off the "we have this to eat as well not on the menu" items and my jaw dropped... it's here... I've found it... Otoro! (Google it!) "Give me everything on the signs," is not the proper way to order sushi, still gotta write it down but the chef knew what I meant. The fish isn't precut, thus keeping proper texture and firmness upon being served. The octopus was cut correctly, everything was no frills and delicious. I would suggest you always go through the nigiri before ordering a roll, it's worth the flavor! My favorite seafood is urchin nigiri and not only was it on deck but also available in a shooter, what?!?!? Yes please. The oyster shooter was delicious, as was everything else consumed this day. I literally ran into the house to write this immediately so I don't forget anything......so, here's the deal. When things are good at Sachiko, it's really good. When it's bad, it's almost horrifying. So, as you can see from my last review, after I complained to them, they obviously made a point to remember me. I went in there last week with a friend. I sat down, and a waitress came over to me and I SWEAR TO GOD said this to me: "why are you here? You complain last time and say our food is no good. Why do you come back?" so I say that I decided to give you another chance because I do like the food here. So she said " you no complain today??" So I say "if you serve me good quality food, I have no reason to complain. And, the meal was fine with no issues. Tonight, I went back with a client. I explained to him the nightmare I had the last time, and how last week I came in and the waitress gave me a hard time. We both had a good laugh. Then the food came- all good. No issues whatsoever. As we are wrapping it up, I decide to order another few pieces of nigiri, including what the waitress said was the best that night, the Bluefin Otoro. When she brought it out, instead of being a solid beautiful piece of fish, it was in 6 sections- but instead of marbling or fat in between each section, it was muscle and fiber. I turned to my friend and with a look of panic I said "uh oh- it's about to get ugly again...!!!" I took one bite and literally it was like biting into a shoe. Tough, hard, stringy, and even with the sharpest teeth, no chance to bite through it. it was like biting through a hard band aid. So I held the piece up by the thick piece of string and muscle, and the waitress walked over. "how was the Otoro??" So I said, well, look at it. Is this a beautiful piece of Otoro or is this the most awful looking piece of crap ever served??? She mumbled something about me not being happy, and said she would take it off the bill. II replied that I don't want it taken off the bill, I just want 2 EDIBLE pieces of Otoro or Toro. She then says "no- I take it off the bill". My client and I had a good laugh at the situation, and I asked for the check. A few minutes later the owner comes storming over yelling saying " Otoro is from the belly! Very oily!! Why you say it's no good????" I then say did you see it??? Go look at it. It is INEDIBLE. You can't chew through it- it's like trying to bite through a thick muscle in a bad steak. She keeps yelling at me "no!! it is the belly! Very oily!!!!!" And I keep saying back to her that it's not about being oily, it's that you served me 2 pieces of nigiri that should have gone into the garbage instead of serving it to a customer. I then tell her that quality sushi should NEVER be chewy or stringy, and she tells me that all of her customers EXCEPT FOR ME love her sushi. I then quickly pull up something I remember from Sugarfish and Nozawa in LA which I have attached a photo of below- their motto is "SUSHI SHOULD NOT BE STRINGY, CHEWY, TOUGH, OR FISHY" What they served me was not fishy, but it certainly was the other 3, and in addition NO HUMAN COULD BITE THROUGH THE 1 INCH WIDE PIECE OF MUSCLE RUNNING THROUGH THE ENTIRE 2 PIECES. Tonight was the last straw. I am calling for a complete boycott of these horrible nasty people. I have spent thousands of dollars over the years at Sachiko and it nauseates me to think that I've not only spent that much there, but I've sent dozens and dozens of friends and clients there, many of whom have shared similar stories with me (including a well known business leader in town that sent a roll back because there was something wrong with it, but instead of them re-making it, saw the chef move the pieces around and send the same roll back). These are nasty horrible people that don't deserve anyones support or anyones business. It's bad enough serving low grade GARBAGE to good customers- it's another thing for the nasty owner to come out and try to embarrass a customer in front his client and everyone else. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE. I am all for supporting local business, but these people don't deserve the support of local Tucsonans. read more

Trying to find a consistently great sushi place is hard. I remember years ago someone told me about Sachiko -- or at least this location 'the sushi place by Trader Joe's' -- and said it was great. When I did a search this week on "best sushi" this came up on my side of Tucson so we tried it. Going in, we were always going to do sushi... but I gotta tell you, their menu is so much more. We ordered five rolls - Vegas, Mexican, Alaskan, Octopus and Spicy Tuna. ALL of them were fantastic. They started us off with miso soup and some edamame while we were waiting. Nice touch since some sushi restaurants don't do that. We polished off every bite. Prices were totally reasonable, considering quality. Service was outstanding. They made sure we were taken care of, filled up our water and checked in often. Looked to be family running the place? At any rate -- I will be a repeat customer and might just try the ramen next time. read more

Dude. Let me tell you, this might be the best sushi and sashimi I've ever had. Don't get me wrong, there is none of that extra churched up bullshit that seems to be pretty consistent with modern sushi spots. No uninterested hostess, no fluorescent lighting. The rolls don't come out manipulated to look like a roaring dragon with a sparkler in its mouth. The specials are hand written on printer paper and taped on the walls, you should expect and enjoy a minimal frills experience. What you do get is really high quality cuts with great respect to the product. You receive pretty efficient service. I've had a few different items, but can't get over the sushi. I was there recently and enjoyed the toro, salmon, tuna, and BBQ eel. The cuts on the fish were generous, larger than most places I've ever been to. The toro was amazing, but the eel! My son took my husband and I out to dinner here. We had just sat down and ordered and the waitress came over and spilled a large full glass of water that soaked all of my pants and crotch. Instead of apologizing she changed our table and I had to wave the waitress down to bring me paper towels or something to sop up the water and she came back and laughed and said "everybody thought you peed your pants" I didn't think that was the least bit funny since we had just sat down to eat and my jeans were soaked through the whole dinner and it was her fault. When the bill came they offered no discount for the discomfort I sat through dinner. I asked the owner if she was aware what happened and she just shook her head and said no discount. Any restaurant that doesn't acknowledge their waitresses mistake and how it changed the whole dinner experience sitting with completely soaked pants deserves a bad review. They made no effort to right their wrong to the customer. Their sushi was average, the salmon salad was awful and there service was horrible. We will never eat there again. read more

Used to go here often when I had a previous job and just recently began again. We ordered pick up recently and it reignited my love. You can find their menu in the yelp pictures, so that made it easy to order. Was here for the first time last week and was blown away! By the quality and deliciousness of the food, the excellent service, and extra precautions during the COVID-19 epidemic. I can honestly say that they have one of the best sushi in Tucson! We were greeted at the door by a temperature testing booth. Our first names were recorded and hand sanitizers were made available to us. Of course, the staff wore masks and the tables were "distanced" too. I ordered the Sachiko Combo #7 which had a variety of sashimi, sushi, teriyaki chicken. My friends ordered the Kalbi and Combo #1 which had teriyaki, tempura, and sushi. We also got the crispy calamari and gyoza as appetizers. Miso soup, a small starter salad, and a side of rice accompanied our meal. Everything was delicious and very fresh! You can taste the quality and care they put into the food. The service was prompt and excellent. The servers were friendly and politely pre-bussed any empty plates that took up table space. After being disappointed by many Tucson sushi places, I'm glad to have found a sushi gem here! Thank you for being open during the coronavirus time and the extra precautions you are taking. There are two locations, I learned upon calling-- I was a little confused when she asked me where I was trying to call! I am brand new to Tucson, had been here only 25 hours when I called them. That was very helpful. We got miso soup, chicken teriyaki, fried calamari and many rolls: negihama, tekka, california, philly, rainbow, spicy octopus, yummy ika. The negihama is my "test" roll, it was very good! The hamachi and green onions were both fresh (it's often one or the other). The teriyaki was very good, the yummy ika roll was very yummy! All in all a lovely dinner! The only complaint I have is that there is no tofu in the miso soup. read more

We've been here twice for takeout. The first time, although it was a ridiculously long wait (on a weekday, and with only a few dine-in customers, my honey waited 45 minutes for two chicken teriyakis, one with tempura and the other with tempura and sashimi) and frustrating customer service (teriyaki sauce was asked on the side, it was on top, very little wasabi, snarkily demanding payment before he went to wait in the car) the food was good (a solid four). However, I went with him yesterday to order takeout (about six tables were occupied for dine-in), and with a 1/2 hour wait, after several faux pas, and a major case of indigestion for both of us, I would downgrade them to one star, hence the average of two stars. We ordered: him - chicken teriyaki with tempura and sashimi, me a Vegas roll hold the crab (Epi-Pen worthy type of hold the crab), and veggie tempura. We wait. We see a man come from the kitchen area with no hat and disheveled hair. The kind of disheveled that screams "I just ran my fingers through my hair." I really try not to envision hair in my food (spoiler alert, there was). I see another emerge from the kitchen with fully flowing long tresses. FFS. But we've already paid and there we were. About 20 minutes later, one of the front-restaurant staff brings out several boxes. She proceeds to open two (tempura) and walk away! Hey, thanks for leaving the boxes open with people walking by and food exposed to everything. After two rounds of back-and-forth, she finally closes the boxes. Triple FFS. Next, more boxes emerge from the kitchen, and once again, she commences the painfully slow opening and closing of the boxes dance. Finally, she packages them and of course, the tempura left to the elements were ours. She motions to us and asks "Did you pay?" We answer in the affirmative. She walks away, looks for another staff and asks in another language whether we paid or not, which we can surmise as the other staff motions towards us with a head nod and a wave. We get home and of course, everything is an appropriate temperature to feed an infant, which means tepid (we live six minutes away). The only good thing I can say is that I was spared a trip to the ER as there was no crab in my sushi. My honey's teriyaki was halved from the last time, and both of us got serious indigestion which kept us up all night. BONUS! During my second trip to finish the tempura, there was an unholy bugger underneath the paper doily in my tempura box ... a short, thin hair. (Remember disheveled dude?)
