My only request would be a change to the music playing in the clinic. Super upbeat dance party music does not match the vibe of the office at all in my opinion, and made me more nervous than I already was going into a long dental procedure. I've been going to this dental office for about 1.5 years and I want to give an honest review based on my full experience. First, the hygienists are all excellent. They're very thorough, professional, and make every cleaning a great experience. I can honestly say they're the best part of this office. The front desk and admin staff are also professional and polite, and the office itself is clean, beautiful, and feels secure. That said, there are a few areas that made me decide not to continue as a patient. The insurance and billing process has been confusing and inconsistent from the start. I've received three different quotes for the same crown--one from Delta Dental, one from the office insurance person, and one when I came back later to schedule. Each time, the price increased or changed without clear explanation. I even brought in a quote directly from my insurance company, yet the insurance quote was still higher. Additionally, I was given for two x-rays in a single year, though my insurance covers one annually, and the second one I never got a call from Dr. Castro to go over them. I also experienced a recent surprise during my last visit because the office had changed insurance plans from HMO to PPO. They request an additional amount was due on top of what my plan covered. While they mentioned they had sent out notices, I personally never received one. Dr. Castro herself is wonderful--very kind and knowledgeable. However, the way billing and insurance are handled has made me lose confidence in the process. It sometimes feels like my insurance is being overbilled or that things are added on unnecessarily (like being told I needed gum grafting that wasn't previously discussed). Lastly, I'll note that while the office interior is lovely, but the physical location isn't my favorite. It's in an area surrounded by quite a few homeless individuals, which can feel uncomfortable. To be fair, if you're someone who likes to maximize your insurance benefits and you don't mind asking detailed questions about your billing, this may still be a great office for you. This is the worst dental office I have ever visited, so much so I had to leave a review. At my initial appointment they told me they had switched the doctor I had originally booked with. No big deal. After extensive X-Rays, the dentist tells me I have a cracked filling that needs to be replaced. Then, a treatment specialist came in to tell me they can do a cleaning and replace the filling that day. When I turned down replacing the filling that day, but would like to just do a cleaning, they said the dentist didn't have time. (you have time for a cleaning AND filling but not just a cleaning???). So, I booked an appointment for the next week and left without a cleaning. I felt weird about the whole thing, canceled my Tuesday appointment (I emailed to cancel on Friday after my appt and they told me normally they charge a $75 late cancellation fee but will let it slide) and got a second opinion. Second opinion said there is no need to replace the filling, especially with such urgency. In all, it is a money grabbing tactic. But it doesn't end there. My insurance did not cover the entirety of the first visit (I was charged $45 for the oral exam) so I received a statement in the mail. I immediately paid it online so I could be done with this office. Two weeks later, they text me that I did not pay my balance and therefore will need to pay a late fee. After I sent screenshots of my payment receipt from two weeks earlier, they said that because I paid on a weekend it didn't post to my account. A bunch of BS if you ask me. Please do not go to this office or at the very least get a second opinion on procedures they recommend. read more

Rebekah sat down with me and explained the three part proposed care plan and the charges associated with each one - what was covered by insurance, what wasn't, and what the total bill will come to. All the technical lingo in the plan was explained until I understood. She was patient, friendly, and showed me pictures to explain things better when I didn't understand initially. She expressed how proud she is to work there. The front office staff were friendly and smiling and seemed to enjoy being there. My husband, who is VERY stressed by going to the dentist, actually was smiling after his painless teeth cleaning and liked the hygienist very much, saying he was quick and gentle. It's been 10 years since I visited this office and I feel I need to leave a review to warn others not to go here. I was told by Dr. Castro I needed my silver fillings replaced because she couldn't tell if there is decay under them, and silver fillings are no good, so I agreed to have them replaced. They cracked and failed within days! She replaced them again (in a very impatient hurry, with lots of heavy sighs and frustration) and they failed within days again! Then she told me I would need to crown both teeth. I was devastated as I was only in my 20s. I got a second opinion and the next dentist was able to fill them and they have lasted for years. They are deep fillings and will need crowns eventually, but I am grateful I was able to keep these teeth another 10 years. I'm not even sure my silver fillings needed to be replaced to begin with, because no other dentists had a problem with them. If I had left them alone my teeth probably would have lasted even longer. read more

Customer Service: This was my first visit here due to switching dental offices and from the moment I stepped foot through the door, I already knew I was going to like this place. I've been to a handful of dental offices in my life, but none can top this one. Every single worker who I spoke to was so kind and welcoming. The front desk worker was nice and did her job well. The dental assistant (I believe?) who ran x-rays on my teeth was very friendly and sweet. She made sure I was comfortable when scanning my teeth. She was very quick on her feet and made sure the bitewing was out of my mouth the second the picture was captured as she probably knows those aren't the most comfortable things to have in your mouth. Then, I spoke to Dr. Karavan who informed me of the status of my teeth. He was very nice and helpful. He didn't seem too much like a salesman when going over what I needed done. He seemed like he genuinely cared for the health of my teeth. Lastly, Rylyne (so sorry if I spelled it wrong!!) was the one who worked on my teeth. I came in to get a regular check up and I was able to tell that she really cares for the health of her patient's teeth because she spent some quality time on cleaning my teeth. At my previous dental offices, the dentists would spend only a few minutes on my teeth and call it a day. I really appreciate the time she put in to making sure that I have a great smile. She was very knowledgable when I asked her questions. I've also never had a dentist measure my teeth before (at least to my recollection), so it was great learning the information she gave me. Office Interior: I really like that this place doesn't have that "dentist smell" or vibe when you first walk in. Everything is pretty nice and new it seems like. You can tell that they upkeep the place when you take a look at their furniture and such. The chairs aren't old, dirty, or ripped. It's also a bonus that they give out free small water bottles in their small fridge! Music: All the other places I've been to have never had music playing in the background. I love that they play popular pop music. I was singing along to every song (One Direction, Justin Bieber, etc.) that they played haha. I have been coming to SDG for over four years. I was referred by a co-worker who has been going there for a while. Since then I have referred over a dozen co-workers to them. The staff there are so friendly and know you by name walking in. Kaylani was so nice when she noticed I was having a problem walking down the hall and offered to help assist me. Lee does a detailed job of cleaning your teeth. P-Jay who works in the back is friendly and makes you feel right at home. The ladies that work the front, Rebekah, Evelyn, and Luz are so helpful in answering questions and always greet you with a smile. Rebekah was so kind when I called to see if they would be able to help an employee with an emergency and offered to get him in right away. You can't find this kind of service in the medical field and should take the opportunity to try them out. read more

Disclaimer: It's been about 4 months and my dates may be off but I am back with an update on the journey, "From Bad Breath to Minty Fresh". Ch 4 , Ch 5 , Ch 5 (part two) and 6... Chapter 4: The Crown is in place Before I begin, I just want to say everyone who worked on getting my crown in were awesome, Arash, Dr. Cook, Emiliegh and Roxanna. Walking in on April 19, 2024 to get my permanent crown in was actually pretty cool. I wasn't nervous but actually proud of myself that I didn't crack the temporary tooth. I'm pretty sure it was because I chewed on my left the whole time but good news, I learned a new skill. Arash was awesome when placing my permanent tooth in. He kept such a professional but fun environment, He also made sure to check how my bite felt. (I believe I came back in for a tooth adjustment and he was able to take care of that no worries). Walking in on May 31, 2024 to get my crown and fillings put in was not as nerve racking as my first time but it did still have nervous vibes. Checking in with Roxanna as I arrived was great, I didn't feel the need to be nervous anymore. Dr Cook and Emiliegh were awesome as well as the process starting to take my tooth down enough (I think it got cavities from my love of sweets lol) to put the temp crown and fillings in. Dr Cook and Emiliegh kept both professional and super nice while the work was being done. It's very easy to be scared when work on your teeth is being done but with a great and professional team behind you, you feel comfortable and safe. Thank you Dr Cook, Emiliegh and Roxanna! Afterwords coming back in for Arash to put the permanent crown for another one of my temporary crown (the work that Dr Cook and Emiliegh did) was just as easy peasy.It is always a pleasure going in now and I feel a lot messed stressed and anxious going in. This will also include Chapter 5. Chapter 5: What just happened?! A crown came off?! (But not theirs) This chapter was funny to me looking back because I have no idea what happened to have the crown come off but I was freaking out so bad. You heard that right, my crown came off, but it was not a crown put in by this awesome team. It actually was from a prior dentist, I hoped that it wasn't them when I was freaking out. I texted the chatline as it was after hours and honestly, cried to my mom about it, but ultimately came in as soon as they opened ish (I actually got a text back from them but I was already there old crown in my hand). They saw me right away and Arash saw me to check on my tooth, it wasn't the tooth they did (different location in my right side) and as such, I felt doomed since I had no appointment. The good news is they got me in right away same day to work on the tooth. Dr Castro was awesome as usual and she was able to work on my tooth fast, easy, and kept the vibes great. I was pretty down when I walked in but I walked out happy and excited to get my permanent crown. To be continued... after this chapter Chapter 6: Routines are your friend While I had my temporary crown in, I was scheduled to do some periodontal maintenance. I never knew that coming in to get your teeth professionally cleaned was necessary... till now. Walking in and checking in, saying "Hi" to Evelyn, Roxanna, and Rebekah, checking in and sitting down has become my normal routine that's always a good start to work being done. Cheng was great! He did my periodontal maintenance smoothly, efficiently and kept the vibes lighthearted. I was scared that having a temporary crown on would mess with the maintenance but he insured me that it will be ok and the maintenance could still be done. I went and paid for the extra of having fluoride gel included on my teeth for an extra protectant. Cheng was awesome and super knowledgeable, he explained why it's important to have maintenance in a routine. I have a lot of buildup on my teeth from natural every day use and he informed me that it's good to come in and have that buildup removed. Chapter 5: What just happened?! A crown came off?! (But not theirs) (part II) Getting my permanent crown was awesome. Honestly this journey which isn't over yet has been pretty uplifting and confidence building. If I feel good this much imagine how I'll feel after all the work is done. I will always advocate for facing your fears and honestly, with this great team I am excited to see how the rest of the journey will pan out. A couple days ago I received a call saying my coverage didn't begin until 01/2025 and they wanted to reschedule my appt I asked them to check again and they found it for the 2024 year so I got to keep my appt.then the day of the appt I got a call stating they needed to schedule me with a different doc. Okay fine as long as I can be seen today. Then they called back and said they completely needed to reschedule since the doc they rescheduled me with is leaving early today. I came here as a new patient today after seeing the high ratings on Google Reviews however my expeI came here as a new patient today after seeing the high ratings on Google Reviews however my experience was poor. I came in for cleaning. Being a new patient all my X-rays were done, subsequently the doctor reviewed them. I told him I was feeling heat/cold sensitivity in my upper left molar. He said that it was due to the crown on the tooth next to the molar and he recommends a new crown be put in. He proceeds to send his "coordinator" to discuss the treatment and costs. During the conversation the coordinator asks me if I would like to schedule my cleaning at the time of crown treatment. I told him I want my cleaning today, which was the whole point of the appointment in the first place. He said he doesn't have any hygienists available and said he will check. He made me wait 15 minutes before he came back to tell me I would need to schedule another appointment. At this point I had wasted 1.5 hours of my time from work. The coordinator was unapologetic and indifferent. I have had many dentists over the years and never once have any of them required a separate appointment for cleaning from the X-ray process. In the past, I was unable to pursue regular dental health check ups, etc., due to a lack of insurance. That all changed when I moved here, to CA, and was able to make an appointment for some badly needed care. Dr. Castro and her team are exceptional. Everything was explained to me exceedingly well at every step of every visit. I'm often confused by insurance options, and they helped walk me through all of that. Lee does my deep cleanings every quarter and he is both careful and thorough. Dr. Castro and Dr. Guerra both are wonderful, kind, and excellent dentists. Alexandra is patient, kind, and careful, as well as being upbeat and friendly. The entirety of the front office staff are friendly, professional, and helpful. I always make a point of thanking everyone for their time and efforts simply because I've never had the like elsewhere except for when I was a child years ago in NC. The care they give their patients is top notch and I would recommend them to anyone My anxiety level with visiting the dentist is a 10/10 that and neglect for my teeth put me in a bad spot. The team at Sac Density took their time to really help me on my journey. I got the major fixes I needed done and also did Invisalign. Today I am confident in my smile and plan to keep my natural teeth my whole life. Dr. Castro is gentle, patient, and compassionate. She saved my teeth and gave me a smile I never thought I could have. PJay is just absolutely the best. She is gentle encouraging and great at what she does. Going to the dentist is probably one of the least favorite things I enjoy doing. I always go in with a pessimistic mindset and leave with pain, discomfort, and a big expense from my checkbook on the way out the door. However, my entire perception of dentists has changed dramatically after visiting this place, the "Sacramento Dentistry Group". Located on 11th and E St's in the heart of Downtown Sacramento, this is where you will find "Sacramento Dentistry Group". The location is a bit difficult to find but luckily Google Maps directed me in the right direction. If you happen to drive here, you can park on the street; however there are meters everywhere that do charge. And a visit to the dentist could be longer than you expect. More conveniently, they offer a dedicated parking lot across the street at 516 12th Street. What surprises me is their hours; for those of us who work a normal 8-5 job (such as myself), their business stays open until 8pm during the week. The inside of this place looked absolutely flawless and upscale. It almost gives you that tranquil spa-like feel to it as if you're in a whole different world. They do offer complimentary bottled water as well as coffee as the beverages of choice. And lots of magazines to read while you are in the waiting area. From an interior designers perspective, this place had the right aesthetics, beauty, and feng shui that made everything flow absolutely perfectly throughout. I happened to have requested a day off (on a Thursday) thinking the entire procedure would take several hours considering the amount of work that had to be done in my mouth. And since this was my very first time coming here, I had scheduled a 12pm appointment. I actually arrived at 11:15am, filled out basic paperwork and they had me go for the comprehensive exam at around 11:35am. This consisted of x-rays, photographs, and radiographs inside my mouth. They were also able to explain to me each tooth that was problematic as well as the gums that had prominent redness. During the entire process, there were several different employees that explained to me everything in simple terms; from the cost of more complex procedures to crown and bridge work that was recommended. I did not feel pressured at all by anyone as this made the entire experience a big sigh of relief. Since it has been several years since I've visited the dentist, I would be needing deep-cleaning; this includes scaling and root planing. The plaque and tartar buildup above and below the gum line are scraped away and rough spots on the root are smoothed out to remove bacteria and give a clean surface for the gums itself. The dental hygienist I had, Mr. Cheng Lee was absolutely phenomenal with his work! The entire 1-hour process that he spent doing the deep-cleaning on me breezed by with hardly any pain. I've been to several different dentists in the past and have never had an experience go as smooth as this one. And after I saw my new and improved smile, the stains and plaque buildup that were so prominent on my teeth were magically gone! And I was done with everything around 1:45pm! Overall, this entire procedure would've cost me well over $1,300. Luckily, I have one of the better dental insurance plans with my employer as my total cost was only $240! I was also given a recommendation of work that had to be done on my future visit which is a general check-up as well as two cavities that need to be filled. I feel that the experience I had here was bar none of the best I've had. And it puts a big sm:)e on my face when visiting the dentist. Thank you "Sacramento Dentistry Group"! read more

It's my first visit with Dr. Castro. I filled out the paperwork online prior to my visit but was asked to fill it out again since they didn't receive it. I'm not sure what is wrong with their records. The digital X-rays went well and it wasn't too painful biting down on it. Exam was very thorough and there were a few recommendations that my insurance did not cover so I declined it since the it was pricey. I'm a new patient at Sac Dentistry Group and have neglected my dental health a fair bit. Turns out i needed a root canal -_- I had it today and it was a much more pleasant experience than I thought! Dr. Castro and her assistant Nate took great care of me, they were very communicative through the procedure and made sure I was numb and not feeling any pain. They had a nice report with one another and it made the procedure more enjoyable since I couldnt speak for most of it. It always makes me uneasy visiting the dental office until a colleague advised that I transfer my care to Sac Dentistry Group. I am very fortunate that Dr. Castro was assigned as my dentist. Whoever answers the phone at this office sounds miserable and angry every single time I call. When I made my appointment for a check-up/cleaning I got scheduled close to 3 months out. I referred my brother to the office and he was able to get an appointment within 3 weeks. I called a couple of time in hopes of taking a canceled appointment but the receptionist wouldn't even bother to look, it was always just no. They told me my brother got in sooner because he is a new patient. Sounds ridiculous. My advice is find an office that values your time and business. I was going to give them a shot based on a co-worker's referral in spite of poor reviews. Because of Yelp! I asked the receptionist up-front if my insurance would cover the cleaning and dental exam I planned to schedule. She confirmed it would but clarified that the cleaning must be "prescribed" by the dentist based on the Exam. OK fine. Then she says that I may have to come back for the cleaning because the initial exam takes so long. Who has time for that? When I ask she says she can find a day where the dentist has time to do the cleaning after the exam. She finds a time 2 weeks from today. Then she tells me that I may need a deep cleaning based on the Dentist's recommendation. I say OK how much is that. Based on my insurance (Delta PPO) she tells me it will probably be covered at 80%. I ask her what is the base price. She says she cannot tell me until the dentist orders the service. So I am unable to compare prices with what another office might charge for this service. At this point there are just to many unknowns and hassles. I am actually OK with a lot of what other people have complained about (e.g. the dentist refuses to give a cleaning without fluoride treatment, they try to sell expensive procedures etc.). My colleague has had a good experience here and I do believe they provide good care. If they will not be transparent, though, I cannot go along with the other "red flags" in their business model identified above. read more

I had my first visit today for an exam and cleaning. I've had some bad experiences going to the dentist before and it's led to a lot of anxiety for me about going to the dentist, so I was less than enthused to be coming here today. To my surprise, I left this office feeling a lot better about the idea of going to the dentist again. Dr. Guerra was very kind and started my exam by asking what he could do to make my experience a good one. He listened to my fears about coming to the dentist in the past and, after my exam, he gave me feedback on brushing/flossing in a way that didn't feel like shaming- he was just helpful. Everyone I interacted with at this office was so kind and it felt like they did everything they could to make me feel comfortable. My husband has also been going here for the last 2 years and he has nothing but good things to say. He had a dental trauma a year and a half ago that has required him to have frequent dental appointments. I went with him for his first appointment the day after the trauma occurred and we were both feeling really upset. I think everyone in the office knew we were going through something and they were all just so nice about it. Every appointment he's had since then has been a pleasant experience (as much as going to the dentist can be). The only downside here was that there aren't doors on the rooms, so you can see other patients when you walk down the hallway (which means others can see you when they walk down the hallway). I don't know if there's a reason for this, I've seen it at other dentist offices I've been to, but I'm not a fan of it. Overall, I didn't leave there crying and I'm not dreading my next appointment.
