This office not only gave great customer service but Dr. Lieu is what I have been looking for, a dental office that does the work and does not act like a used car salesman. She was very professional and thorough. Without naming any other Sacramento dental offices but in the last 10 years I have tried 4 others who all said the familiar words you have periodontal disease, fillings need replacement, deep cleaning, etc... Dr. Lieu performed the best exam and cleaning without any of those diagnosis. My teeth are beautiful and all co-pays aligned with the insurance company. Best dentist in town!!! My dissatisfaction continues with good reason: now one of the crowns this dentist installed is crumbling apart--noticed something oddly strange in my smooth yogurt and yep, it was my very expensive Orchid Dental crown. It's about four years old and all Zirconia, which is supposed to be of superior quality. Supposed to be. Now, you know the drill--insurance won't pay for a new crown that is fewer than 10 years old. Great! So now I have another broken and crumbling crown. This dentist really should be under investigation. She's terribly rude, terribly expensive, out of touch, has way too much pride, and wants to be right even when the patient is the one who is right--and ultimately gets the last word on her or his care. Save yourself the grief and cost--go elsewhere. Again, shame on you, Yen. You don't deserve to be called a doctor. This "dentist" also uses a pay review site in an attempt to skew what patients say about her and faulty work. read more

After years of switching dentists because I could not find a trustworthy or reliable dentist I have finally found a place I can count on! I found this place through my MetLife dental plan. After calling and researching an entire page of providers, I settled on Orchid Dental because Dr Yen Lieu is located in Natomas, which is a 5 minute drive on the freeway from both work and home. But the reason why I choose to go with her is because she does both dental and orthodontic work. I found that I could do all my cleanings and get my braces at the same location! No referrals out! The other places I called would have an ortho come onsite only on certain days, which meant that you could only set appointments on the days the ortho was in .... or you would have to be referred out. Dr. Yen Lieu is a very sweet person. You will feel very comfortable right away. She told me I can get both braces and invisalign. She gave me the option to choose either braces or invisalign or I could do both treatments. I chose to go with both treatments and she is charging me the same price - doesn't matter which option I go with. She is also including a cleaning and year's worth of whitening after treatment is done. I am about 6 months into my treatment so far and have no complaints. I see her every month for a check up and will be put on invisalign in a few more months. I almost never have to wait. I usually set my appointments for first thing in the morning at 9am so I never have to wait to be seen. I'm in and out in 10-15 minutes. They use state of the art technology and the staff are very friendly. I highly recommend Orchid Dental group and have referred all my coworkers. I have nothing bad to say and they have exceeded my expectations. The price depends on if you have insurance or not and what the negotiated rate is. Through MetLife, I get a discounted rate of $4000 for my braces and invisalign. My dental insurance covers $1500 as a lifetime maximum so I really only had to pay $2,500 out of my pocket. They require about $500 upfront and then monthly payments after. Not at bad deal at all. I also want to mention that they use an email system that will send out a reminder about your scheduled appointment about a week prior. Then the week of, they will send you a confirmation email where you just have to reply yes. The day before, they will send you a text message and you just reply C to confirm the appointment. For someone busy like me, the reminders really help. I never would have thought that receiving text messages from my dentist would be so convenient but I love it! I don't have to call back and be put on hold. If I'm in a meeting or can't talk, I can just text my reply and its confirmed. I love this system that they use. I have never forgotten or missed an appointment with them. A wonderful tool that other business should start utilizing! read more

My husband had a serious accident more than ten years ago and needed major surgery to repair his shattered jaw. His teeth haven't been the same since the accident and he's in nearly-constant need of work to fix something or other. Adding to this dental misery is his extreme squeamishness and allergy to novocaine. Result: dentist phobia, resulting in dentist avoidance. Orchid Dental opened recently within walking distance of his office, so when one of his teeth started hurting, he bravely went in and made an appointment. BEST DENTIST EVER, he later told me. Dr. Lieu filled everything that needed filling and even got him back in for a recheck after a month. He's even making and keeping cleaning appointments, something he has never done with prior dentists. Most telling, his pre-visit anxiety is very minor. I used to have to go with him because he was so freaked out, then negotiate some sedatives for him before they started working on him. No more: he's actually sort of RELAXED before going to this dentist. Today I observed Dr. Lieu for myself. Our sixteen-year-old son had sudden tooth pain this weekend while scuba diving, so we feared he had developed a cavity or something. He's had braces for almost four years, and cleaning around them is a constant problem. My husband arranged an appointment for our son and I took him in. X-rays and a thorough visual inspection showed that our son has wisdom teeth starting to come in, causing deep-water pressure and pain on one side. Thankfully, no cavity or anything else hinky. What I observed while sitting in the mom chair was Dr. Lieu's tiny, tiny gentle hands. Technically she's very sharp and adept, she's sensitive to her patient's experience, and she really listens to the patient. She doesn't rush at all. She's just all around top-notch competent, and with those tiny hands and her fine sensitivity to her patient, she's a wonderful dentist. Bonus: she's an orthodontist, as well! Our orthodontist is, well, not our favorite person, so we asked Dr. Lieu about some of the issues we've been having. We actually left with a better idea of our orthodontist's treatment plan and what we can expect next than we do when we have an orthodontist appointment. I wish we could switch orthodontists. I'm surprised Dr. Lieu doesn't have more reviews. I've had just about every basic procedure done by her, including basic cleaning, fillings, extraction, and now I'm getting Invisalign treatment for teeth straightening. When I had the extraction done, I swear it only took 15 minutes for her to pull my tooth even with the anesthesia shots. And how convenient that she does both dental and orthodontic work. When my Invisalign treatment is over, I'll provide an update on the results but so far so good. She is incredibly knowledge and personable, and the staff makes you feel at home. The dentist and staff here are phenomenal ! My teeth are not in great form due to bad Drs and other past issues at other offices. Dr lieu gave it to me straight what was happening with my teeth and told me I needed an immediate extraction because my tooth couldn't be saved. She was done in about 15 minutes with the whole process and she numbed me up very much to the point where I didn't feel much of anything. Dr and her assistant administered and gave me step by step process of everything happening to me while I was in the chair. I was healed up and back to work the following day with no issues. My second visit was just a quick process and check up. Once everything is fine I will be back for more process with dr lieu. As for the prices, they are quite reasonable and she gives you many options and accepts various dental insurances . read more

I had a so-so experience here. I've avoided the dentist for years as I have a severe phobia of the dentist due to a bad experience as a teen. I knew I needed a lot of work done but didn't know the extent of damage caused by years of neglect. I found Orchid Dental through my dental insurance and scheduled an exam with x-rays. The staff was friendly and the dental assistant who took my x-rays was kind and reassuring. As I expected, my teeth needed a lot of work. Here's where my problems began. The dentist told me for her to be able to get a proper plan of the work needed, I would first need a thorough deep clean. This was very understandable. She also told me that I would need 8 root canals and 8 crowns with the possibility of one or two extractions. This diagnosis was for just 8 teeth. I knew I needed more work than just that for all my other teeth but she wouldn't tell me what else I needed done. She said we needed to address those teeth first and then we could discuss what else needed to be done. My worst fear was getting those 8 teeth fixed and then being told all my other teeth would need work and it would be thousands of dollars more. I didn't want to start the process of repairing my teeth and then not be able to continue treatment. I wanted to plan and budget what I needed done so I can get the work needed in phases. I even called back asking if she could tell me what other work my other teeth needed and her response was we have to wait until after your cleaning to tell you. I know she can't tell me everything that needs to be addressed but I know she can at least tell me what cavities I needed filled based on the x-rays. She told me that this was going to be very expensive to take care of and I should reach out to family for money or get a loan. The fact that she assumed that I wouldn't be able to afford the work needed was a huge turn off. After going home and discussing with my husband the work I needed done and how much it would cost to fix just 8 teeth we decided to get a second opinion. I realized it was very possible to get the exact same diagnosis at another dentist but when needing to spend that much money, I wanted to make sure the work suggested was really what I needed. I am SO glad I got a second opinion because my new dentist had a much more conservative approach to the work I needed done. He also gave me a very good idea of ALL the work I need done for my entire mouth. He told me I may need a couple root canals but certainly not 8. In the end, I ended up needing almost every tooth worked on but for the same price I was given at Orchid Dental, I was able to fix my entire mouth. I didn't end up needing any root canals or extractions. I still need to get some crowns in a few months after my gums heal but the fact that I was able to avoid any root canals and save all my teeth was huge. It's important to remember that every dentist is going to have their own opinions and treatment reccomendations about the work needed on your teeth. We lived in Natomas at the time we first started going to see her. We moved to Rancho Cordova over 6 years ago but still drive out of our way because of how great she is. I went in for my semi-annual cleaning and I made the mistake of taking my two year old with me. He's been in before, and he was a complete trooper - he just hung out and played on my phone while I got my teeth cleaned. I'm not sure what was so different about this particular visit, but he was just not happy about being at the office at all and he wasn't about to let me out of his sight. I felt horrible! He was crying and wouldn't let go and I was afraid I'd have to reschedule my appointment. The doctor and staff were so patient with him and they let him stay on my lap while I got my teeth cleaned and they showed him what they were doing so he'd know I wasn't being hurt. It's the extra patience, care and excellent customer service that I get from Dr, Lieu and her staff that makes me want to keep coming back. read more

My issue with this Dentist is not her skills, rather her business practices. All dentists charge a fee if you miss an appointment without providing them the proper notice. This was my situation, I had a last minute change at work that I could not miss outside of my own death. Having been a 2 year plus patient in good standing and having had them work with me before in the same situation I was shocked and hurt when when they wouldn't work with me this time. $75 or hit the road. I chose to hit the road. It's sad when the need for money exceeds an act of human kindness. They lost a good customer and long time member of the community. They have forgotten the golden rule and how to be human. read more

At first, I thought this place was great. Friendly staff, good service. I got 2 crowns done here. First one got infected and I had to redo and do a root canal. An extra charge. Now, my other crown is infected. Terrible. Either she lacking skill or simply not knowledgable. For the amount of money I paid out of pocket on top of my insurance, I expected better quality.
