[[HIGHLIGHT]]Also, their website is fantastic and updates in real time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We adopted a 1 year old American shorthair named Toast-- toast had a sign on her kennel that she wasn't available yet, and when we asked, our matchmaker was very helpful explaining all the paperwork for all the cats.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were able to meet her, even though she wasn't yet available.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had to come back and pick her up after her spay 2 days later, which ended up happening a day earlier than scheduled and she didn't have to be in a car for a long ride home right after the surgery. Taking my girl to get her dog his shots was a really good experience. We wanted to finally get him vaccinated so we can start taking him out in public and to dog parks. The directions to the place weren't very straightforward, but after driving around the property we eventually spotted the sign on the building. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Before he got his shots, we had to sign him in, and the staff was sooooo friendly. You could immediately tell they genuinely loved dogs.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Having such welcoming and caring staff made the visit a lot easier and less stressful for both us and the dogs.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] While we were there, we also ran into some other friendly dogs, which was nice. There was even a mini dog park area in the front for pets waiting for their visit, along with a water bowl for the dogs and cats. It was a thoughtful touch that made the place feel very pet friendly. Overall, it was a really good visit. Our puppy we brought in to have spayed had some complications to her surgery site (swelling and a bit of oozing). I want to talk about an experience I had here after dropping off kittens I found at the park. The staff would not let me in the building and after being referred to different parts of the shelter I finally got to a desk where a worker with brown curly hair was giving me so much attitude. She worked front desk at I believe the dog drop off area since the cat area had no staff. But at the time, me and my sister had to go to work soon so I just simply asked how long the process would be. The lady rudely said " next time don't pick up animals if you don't have the time" so passively aggressively with multiple eye rolls and other rude comments. Is this who works at these shelters? Mind you, I have work and would put giving these animals a safe place a priority over it, I wasn't even rushing her?? You would rather me leave these kittens in a ditch than rescue them and have them medically examined? I used to think people who worked here cared about the wellbeing of animals but obviously not. I work customer service and volunteered at an animal shelter before so I have so much respect for other workers! My sweet boy of 15 yrs passed recently and I was looking to find another cat. I was partial to an orange one I saw online so we came here today to take see if we were a match. I read about their process and pretty much helped my self because the ladies at the front are not very forth coming on helping you. I told her I was looking for cat FF and she says fill out the form and a counselor will be with you shortly to show you the cat. She says, "oh he has a congenital condition that requires eye drops once a day for life. Are you okay with that?" Hmnnn... no where on his post does it mention that and I think that is important don't you think? After coming off year long hospice care with my cat, I really was not looking to have a schedule from the get go but figured we were there and once day isn't bad. I asked if I could browse in the meantime and she said yes of course. Shelters always say they are full so I expected to see wall to wall animals. It was pretty empty. Not a lot of choices and the one I wanted to see was hidden in a covered box. How in the heck do you expect to find homes for animals that people cannot see? We came back out front and I added another cat I wanted to see and added O to my list. She says okay. While waiting I hear another lady says she wanted to see O. I asked the volunteer what happens in this case and she says oh its first come, first serve so if you were first, you get to pick first. Clearly I was so I was not worried until they later told me I was second. Hmnnn, possibly I suppose? but if that was truly the case why didn't the girl tell me that when I put her on my list? That really irked me. Finally we get called to see FF and she brings me to his pen. I expected to be taken to a private visiting room like most shelters have to give us space. She says, Oh we don't have those. Really? then how come I see several across the way filled with cat toys and litter box that is marked visiting room??? They expect you to sit on the floor and pet the cat outside the door in the walkway. Ridiculous. The counselor sat with us while she read his rap sheet. He required eye drops TWICE a day. Different than what the front desk said. For a professional organization, I am a bit shocked at the disorganization and lack of communication. Their online photos of available pets are not the most flattering nor informative. No history. I like to know how that pet came to the shelter. They do nothing to "sell" their adoptees. Poor customer service. It is a serious commitment to own a pet, so treat the person that walks through the door like a valued person to save lives. Very disappointed. Within a month, I took two feral cats to be neutered at SPCA. They recommended that both cats be euthanized, although neither were FIV positive. I took them to Dr. Hendrie at Rio Linda Veterinary Clinic for a second opinion. She disagreed and said that they were just run down from being intact feral cats. One cat lived for two years, and the other for four years. read more

This is the WORST clinic I have ever seen in my life. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The employees are completely rude & not at all compassionate.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was forced into surrendering my 2 dogs that I've had for 6 years. These were my babies....I was a complete wreck. I was hysterically crying...and the lady who did my intake was really rude and made me feel like I was giving my dogs away with no good reason at all. They tell you that there's a 72 hour evaluation process and after that 72 hours, the dog should be moved up to the adoption floor. They tell you that they will not give you any updates and that you're not allowed to come and visit them at all. They tell you that if the dogs are aggressive at all or bite or anything towards any of the employees they could be removed from the adoption floor and potentially put down which is already something extremely difficult to hear at a time when you're giving away two animals that are like your babies that you really are having a hard time with letting go of. [[HIGHLIGHT]]In an already difficult time, the customer service lacked complete empathy, and human compassion.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]When it was time to bring in my dogs, she met me at the side door and took one dog in at a time and didn't even let me say goodbye. Just harshly grabbed the leash and took them inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I brought in their beds and blankets that I brought for them while I was still hysterically crying she told me to just drop them on the floor and they would bring them in the back eventually.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had to ask another worker at the front desk if she could please bring back their beds and blankets for them. Luckily, she was extremely nice and came around the corner and saw that I was hysterically crying and asked which bed was for which dog and said that she would bring them back to them right now and put them in their kennels for them.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I surrendered my dogs at the begging of October.... It's been weeks and they never got posted on the SPCA website. I've called and asked about them several times and I've anxiously awaited to see them posted on their social media pages which they have not. I really feel like I gave away my babies just for the SPCA to put them down. I'm extremely disappointed as I waited over a year and a half to even surrender these dogs and the only reason I had to give them away was because I'm a single parent of a toddler and couldn't manage working full-time with a toddler and two big dogs and have the time that I need for for them and that they deserve. I surrendered them to give them a better life, and I feel like I surrendered them to their death unfortunately. Please do not bring your pets here. They do not care about you or your animals. Recently, our family dog passed away and I wanted to keep his ashes. The SPCA offers cremation services for recently deceased pets for $185. A wooden urn with an engraving costs extra. Other vet places were quoting me $300 for group cremation services where I can't keep the ashes. The receptionist was understanding of the emotionally trying time our family was going through. Cremation was completed within two weeks. The pick-up location is conveniently open seven days a week. read more

After I entered my credit card information , my appointment disappeared[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] .[[HIGHLIGHT]]i called the Clinic but did not receive a response.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Upon reentering the , website I found that I could no longer book the appointment or there were no longer any appointments available I finally got and email in January stating that there were no upcoming appointments for the entire month. I finally had my kitten neutered by a private vet . It may be a great organization but it can meet the objective of reducing pet populations until they fix this . read more

I am reviewing the SPCA splashy event held at the Animal Den on Power Inn Road. The last two times we have taken our lab to this event it has been unsafe and poorly manage. A dog named Simba was relentlessly aggressive towards our dog from the minute we arrived to the minute we left. [[HIGHLIGHT]]No staff person at the event took control of the situation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We left after ten minutes because our dog was cowering in fear of Simba the entire time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As we left Simba rushed through the exit gate after our dog. The staff at the event did nothing to control this crazy pit mix dog and offered no apology.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It was appalling. I would never recommend taking a dog to this event. This review is way overdue. We're talking two years overdue! In 2020, I adopted my cat Raven from here. On the website I put in my information and expressed my interest in adopting a kitten. I soon received a response from a lady named Susan and was able to make an appointment to see the kittens. This was during the height of the pandemic, so protocol was strict and Covid-conscious (which I appreciated). Fast forward to my adoption appointment, I was told to check in and call the number to say I was there. Masks were mandatory and they were taking your temperature. Waited about 10-15 mins and I was allowed in the building. Long story short. Got the kitten of my dreams (now my full-grown cat) and overall had a lovely experience. She was fixed right when I got her and I got sent home with a carrier, litter box, small bag of food, and adoption folder. The staff were all friendly, attentive, and super helpful. My cat was brought to them because I was taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, the day I came to pick him up they had set a price too high for me. I am retired and on a fixed income so I could not retrieve my kitty that day. They knew I was trying to obtain the $466.00 they said I owed to come back to get him. By the time I had the finances, they had changed his name and they had someone adopt him. I don't know much about pets or centers, but I had a pretty great experience adopting my puppy with my girlfriend so I'll say my piece. LOCATION: Off Florin road with on-site parking. Facility easily spotted from the road. DECOR: I noticed some cute artwork of animals, but pretty plain and ordinary looking everywhere else. PRICE: $$$ At these prices, anyone can have a rescue pet. I'm sure it's different for every animal and other things like supplies, but it was differently in the hundreds and not thousands. FOOD: They were feeding our puppy Hill's Science Diet and she is still on it now. It has everything she needs and we've been watching her grow everyday. SWAG: They have crates, harnesses, leashes, chew toys, etc. Small select choices, but what do you expect? This is a rescue center, but PetSmart. Lol. Anyway, everything we received is loved by our puppy. STAFF: Knowledge, clear, personable and accommodating. EXPERIENCE: A friend of my girlfriend and I fostered Nala (Little Petal, 3 Months old) from the SPCA. That's how we found out about her. We literally adopted her 2 days later. It was the easiest process ever. We were told that Nala would have to get "fixed" and would be healing for the next week. Make was low on energy, but still so we'll behaved. The SPCA had everything we needed. Shot records, general owner information, food, toys, etc. I felt like a competent dog owner on day one. There wasn't a question unanswered. We knew what to do next and when to do it. We knew what we needed and where to find it. All the things no one wants to worry about when they have a new addition to the family. read more

Very disappointing direction for the SPCA. Rude staff and unethical behavior towards animals. I made a complaint about some abuse of program use and ever since that report and formal complaint, staff has been incredibly rude towards me. Going as far as to return friendly dumped cats I brought in for help. These cats were returned to the dumping area without my knowledge, which I asked to be called and the cats were still coming out of sedation, hardly able to stand or walk. They also took a nursing mom cat from her young kittens, refusing my offer to foster the family and returned mom to the dumping area. Absolutely terrible behavior and not in the animals best interest. After several years of partnership with the SPCA, I won't recommend them any longer. read more

The doctor gave a detailed explanation of the procedure and what might happen, and she took into consideration our limited financial situation and my excessive worry about our dog's life. The doctor was very compassionate in dealing with the dog and with us. She was not seeking financial gain, but rather focused on saving the dog's life.
