I love this shop, Joey has done all my tattoos and many for the rest of my family as well. He does great work, he's efficient and talented. He was able to take several example pictures I showed him and hand draw an entire piece for me and it turned out better than I could have hoped for. The shop is clean, comfortable and well decorated. I felt well taken care of each time I came in for an appointment. They're a relatively small shop too, which is nice because it's now over crowded, and it means they really get to take their time with your tattoo, and make sure it really turns out great. wish we could give this place zero stars. wanted to get a spontaneous tattoo with my best friend. upon entry, felt already dismissed and frankly treated us like stupid little girls. obviously raging sexist men who have superiority complexes surrounding their "artistry". they shut down every one of our ideas before really hearing them and didn't give any kind of ideas or suggestions in place of them. condescendingly mansplained how tattoos work and asked if we've ever gotten any (each of us have multiple). we ended up leaving because the energy was so bad and had ruined the joy and excitement we had. such a shame. they lost potential customers simply due to their rude attitude and lack of customer service (and their sexist attitudes). doesn't surprise me that they have multiple bad reviews highlighting the same things mentioned here. read more

Sacred Art is a great down-to-Earth tattoo shop. Bunch of nice guys. I met both Luis and Matt. Luis took the time to chat with me on the phone and then in person about my tattoo ideas. We agreed on one tattoo. Then when I can in with a different tattoo, he did not bat an eye. He knew his skills. He took my drawing and tailored the artwork to my shoulder. We went the a few adjustments on the placement and then he dropped this Hawaiian sun into another one of my tats as if the sun was setting. Great idea. He was very flexible in his concepts and once we decided, he was all about the business. Clean lines, great work on the fills with 11 needles too! Setup quickly - really organized, made sure I was comfortable throughout while he worked on my rear of my shoulder up to collarbone. He made pleasant conversation - talked about as ton of stuff inside an hour or so. Made the tattooing go faster especially in the few spots where he tattooed into spots with nerves. Upper shoulders, under the arm, collarbone, ribs - those kind of sensitive spots. He made a tough tattoo a lot easier to get. Good hands and good with laying in the tribal ink. Nice and black throughout. Gave me a nice primer on tattoo aftercare as well. I have several tattoos from all over the U.S. Luis is a fine artist who can help you get that piece right and make it blend into your other artwork. Happy - hells yeah. When I'm in the area, I will check in with Sacred Art Tattoo to schedule an appointment and complete my half sleeve/shoulder piece. read more

The spinach was top-notch. Really though, I came to sacred art after having a horrible experience with a different tattooist up the street on Monroe. I came to Joey at sacred art, and he is great! He has completely redone and enhanced my sleeve, he makes good time and does high quality work. I get constant compliments on my arm. He prices fair, and is fun to chat/hang with. I highly recommend sacred art for all your tattoos! Very happy all around. Joey is also very creative with re-doing my arm, he has great ideas and still sticks with what I wanted originally, just makes it better, like a good artist should. I did not have a good experience at Sacred Art, for multiple reasons. The biggest being the homophobic and queer-phobic interactions my girlfriend, best friend and I all experienced. We decided to get tattoos spur of the moment on my birthday and called in to see if they had time. Frosty answered and said that he'd have time and that we could come in. When we got there we had to wait outside for at least 20 minutes after Anna (long dark hair with a blunt, sarcastic attitude) asked what we wanted, acting like our tattoo ideas were stupid and trivial. She eventually assigned us each an artist and I was the first one to come in to start mine while the other two waited outside for at least 30 more minutes. When I first came in Anna asked "what does he want again" or something along those lines, referring to my girlfriend, who goes by she/her pronouns. I said "she wants a snail" and Anna quickly said "no him!" which I responded with, "she goes by she/her pronouns." To this Anna was apologetic and said something like "I thought their voice sounded funny." In this situation she should have asked for her pronouns initially, but instead made an assumption, which was ignorant and insensitive. The whole experience of getting our tattoos was relatively okay. Anna only allowed less than 15 minutes to complete my girlfriends tattoo and she was very rushed. As we waited for our tattoos we experienced multiple customers come in with appointments in 20 minutes when they hadn't even completed our tattoos yet. It had me wondering why you would say you have time for three tattoos when you have appointments lined up. As my girlfriend was finishing up her tattoo we all very clearly overheard FROSTY who was in the back with another customer have a VERY HOMOPHOBIC and QUEER-PHOBIC conversation with a customer, saying things like "can you imagine thinking you're non-binary or transgender, thats where it goes too far, that makes no sense." In this situation, Anna or one of the other artist should have intervened, telling them that their actions were not okay. Instead Anna sheepishly apologized to my girlfriend and tried to ignore the offensive and hurtful things her coworker was saying. None of us were satisfied with this experience, although we like our tattoos, we hated the environment and WOULD NOT GO BACK again. I recommend not supporting a business that outwardly condones behavior such as this. Silence is violence and being a silent bystander only allows oppressive speech such as this to continue. read more

Got tatted here two days ago with a friend (cuz she wanted to). She got tatted by Larie and I got tatted my Jefe. When we first walked in, it was a little awkward, and we were a little skeptical but then everyone warmed up and we were laughing like mad! Definitely a fun experience. This was definitely an impulse tattoo, but we both already had an idea of what we wanted (drew it ourselves). Even tho we didn't make an appointment, we got in fairly quickly, and both our tattoos were done within an hour, including talking, and fixing up the tattoos. I have to say, this is a great place to get tatted. This was not my first tattoo; it is my third. For some reason, I stil tremble a lot when I get tatted. Not because it hurts, but because it is ticklish as hell! I had a two hour tattoo session a year ago, and I was shaking the whole two hours. But Jefe was able to calm me down. I stil trembled for the first minute, but every minute afterwards was a breeze. Would definitely go back again if I want another tattoo. read more

They must not have air conditioning in their building so I opened the door to let some fresh air in. The girl that works there walked in from her smoke break grabbing the door to close it as I'm in the doorway and blows smoke in my face. The shop is clean and the artists are funny and talented. Going there to get a tattoo is the best therapy. Larie is an amazing artist and I always enjoy getting to talk with her while getting a new tattoo. I bring all of my family here when they want a new tattoo, and they all want to stick with her as well. The prices are also affordable, which means I can get a few tattoos a year, rather than just one overpriced from one of the other shops in town. read more

Circle is an absolutely amazing artist. He was professional, respectful and kind the entire time myself and 3 friends were getting tattooed. Drew our designs perfectly and was very quick and efficient. Unfortunately the other artist, Ray, is a misogynistic pig who WILL be rude to you if you are a woman. Extremely disrespectful, rude, sexist and condescending if you are not a man getting tattooed. Does not matter if Ray tattoos you or not, as he had no professional interaction with me, only disrespect and violent words simply because I was inhabiting the same space as him. Ray had quite literally NO REASON to speak to us at all however took the opportunity to be rude, disgusting, violent and condescending and honestly encouraged me to never want to step foot in this shop again. We watched Ray tattoo a male and he was very calm and polite. Unfortunately when me and my other female friends tried to initiate conversation with Ray he was absolutely disgusting. Tried to escalate physical violence with me, a 5'2. 115 lb female and then attempted to kick me out without letting me pay Circle for my art. He is actively trying to lose money for this shop by being so abrasive and rude. It's really unfortunate because Circle is absolutely wonderful and Ray is absolutely revolting. I would not recommend putting your skin anywhere near Ray, a misogynist, an asshole, an absolutely terrible businessman and at best a mediocre tatooist. Cannot recommend Circle more. Go in on any day Ray is not working. I'd call in advance to be absolutely sure because I personally would not risk another mortal second in the same breathing space as the foul creature known only to mortals as "Ray. Big Gigantic Asshole." Anyways Circle rocks! :) I took a card so that I would be able to contact him in the future and be able to guarantee the fact that I would never have to see Ray's disgusting face again. This place had the worst service I have experienced. I went to this establishment to get my third tattoo and the artist Jeff acted as if I was a prissy girl undeserving of the freedom to express myself through permanent art. He laughed at my tattoo, a beautiful quote spoken by my Grandmother in her last breathe. What a terrible environment to create life long art and meaning. I went back to get my sixth tattoo done and all my work had been done here, which means I am a loyal customer. However, I couldn't remember if Joey pr Ray did my last tattoo because I'm not good with names anymore due to recent brain damage. Instead of giving me a second to think (or maybe checking records?) Laree was very rude to me again and said "so some guy with tattoos, then?" Thanks hun, I"ll remember you for sure. Customers remember negative experiences, that's one of the first rules of customer service. It turns out most of the people who've worked on me have left, but somehow she is still there. That does not bode well. So I took my business to Diehard in Albany where they were respectful to all the customers, the floor was clean, and there weren't pictures of tits everywhere making me feel like women are objects to these people. It didn't cost them or me anything extra to be decent. I will be going there from now on. read more

Gabrielle did an amazing job on my line work. She came up with a better design than I had in mind when I walked through the door. It has been 2 months and the healing has been great. I get more compliments on my simple penguin tattoo than my other, more intricate tattoos. She was very versatile and accommodating. I moved to the east coast and will go to her for work when I visit Oregon. read more
