Date of Visit: 26/1/2026.
I am separating it from the main part of the hotel which is Stratton House.
I was with my sister, who lives not far away so needed to choose a place close by.
I think that we were the only two in the restaurant, so service was very attentive. Could be the same when full, hard to tell.
Let me say at the outset, I am trying to reduce my intake of large quantities of food, which was a good job, as I'll explain later.
My sister was given an option to try the house wine, which she did, but wasn't to her taste. I thought that that was a good gesture. Anyway she plugged for Sauvignon Blanc.
2 x 175ml - Pasquiers Sauvignon Blanc (£6.50 each) - £13.00
2 x Pints of Diet Coke - Draught (I was the driver) (£3.75 each) - £7.00
Starters - Both went for the same:
2 x CHESTNUT & TURKEY SCOTCH EGG spice plum ketchup - (£8.50 each) - £17.00
Mains: - Both the same again....
2 x PAN ROAST HAKE, potato, clam, saffron & prosecco chowder (£22 each) - £44.00
Total - £81.50
The scotch eggs were the smallest served in a restaurant I'd seen before (guess it must be a quail's egg). I think I get out enough to recognise the difference. The gross profit must be quite good - :-)
Similarly, with the hake, quite a small portion. It was in a lot of sauce, and I say, an exceptionally delicious sauce.
As above, I was saved from being overly full, and declined the sweet menu.
I'm not sure I'd return.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, as they say, so I should have read some other reviews about pricing and portion sizes.
I should have taken pics. I was with my sister, so didn't want to embarrass her. read more
