Day 1, they went over the basics & were very encouraging even with mistakes. They went through the basics & fundamentals of the bike and positioning. Day 2, we went through more in depth exercises as though we're on the street. Testing is day 2 as well and George was great at giving us insight on what to expect. Overall this is a great experience whether you're just learning or have years of riding. They give you one on one advice which is very helpful and they also also ask you questions on how you think you did and what you can improve on. I had Ivan, Angel, and Mark. They were all so awesome and funny and supportive. I have to get my motorcycle license for my moped, yes my cute scoot. I felt so dumb initially bc I mean I ain't shifting but this class still helped me a lot. Maybe the first hour I was like lalala but after that I'm still learning how to ride a bike. I just don't have a shifter. I feel so much more comfortable riding my bike. They were all really supportive with everyone and they never made me feel dumb or lame. A couple of peers in group were discussing taking the M1 training course; driving a motorcycle was one of those things on my bucket list... 'And so, here I be. Before the weekend course, I was fortunate enough to have a friend, Damian C, who happened to buy a Honda Rebel 250 earlier in the year. I asked Damian if he'd spend some time with me learning the basics, starting, stopping, shifting, and throttle control... 'The basics. To say everything felt awkward and foreign is an understatement. Imagine patting your head, rubbing your stomach and dancing a jig @ the same time... 'It felt a lot like that. There's a lot going on and mistakes are bound to happen. (i.e. - Dropping the bike; stalling the bike; wrong gear, etc.) It's why we are here, it's all part of the process. The Saddleback Rider Training instructors, Mark, Mike, Joey and Moe did an excellent job in explaining and demonstrating the exercises. They had a lot of patience with students and did their best to help everyone succeed; job accomplished. Everyone passed the course. (Nice job everybody!) There was a portion in the training when I was having a challenging time understanding the "push & lean," concept. Joey physically demonstrated it as I was driving by him... 'And then it just clicked. I was trying to lean my entire torso in the turn but it's actually shifting/sliding your shoulders aover to lean, the upper torso. The waist stays stationary. DING! - "Got it!" Up until then I was trying to bring my entire weight on the inside. It made a huge difference. Moe also demonstrated with his "lean dance." (i.e. - Comedy relief) Even though we had some laughs in between the instruction, there was no playing around when it came down to safety. All joking aside, your life, that of other riders/drivers are at stake here. My fellow riders were cool, easy going, laid back. I didn't notice any inflated egos; everyone is here is to learn... 'And pass the course. So be humble, be open to receiving criticism/feedback. After all, isn't that why we are here; to learn? Put your ego in check, put your study cap on along with your helmet and you'll have a good time. Ask questions, get clarification; don't worry about sounding stupid because more often than not, there's another student with the same question but too insecure to ask. This is your time to learn, show up for you! After the second day of training, you take the final. You're asked to demonstrate the various driving skills and techniques you learned in the past two days. did I mention stressful? I took a deep breath when it came to my turn and attempted to recall all the little things I was show; how to approach a turn, "looking through the turn," always head up & looking ahead, emergency stop, swerving to avoid a possible object in the road. A key lesson, do not fixate on your display or objects directly ahead of you, where you look is where the bike will go. I teach sailing with Aventura Sailing @ Dana Point and learning to ride a motorcycle reminded me of learning to sail. Everything matters; head on a swivel; check your stern; traffic ahead; safe distances from paddle boarders & other vessels; right of way rules, have an option B and C in case you need to alter course (Escape). The skipper's responsibility is the safety of the crew & vessel. The same ideas and concepts can apply here. I HIGHLY recommend the course to anyone wanting to learn to ride a motorcycle, zero experience welcomed. Is it stressful? Absolutely and you're just in a parking lot. NOW, imagine not knowing these valuable lessons/insights out on the road with other vehicles?... 'Exactly. I'd rather be stressed here, learning the do's and don'ts with painted lines and rubber cones then making rookie mistakes out on the road. When I took the course, I didn't own a motorcycle. Fast forward three days, I'm the owner of a used 2018, Honda CB500X. I was debating about getting a 300cc bike but heard that one usually outgrows it in months, hence going with the 500cc engine. I've take out the motorcycle out in the early am, less cars on the road. I generally go down Golden Lantern to Dana Point Harbor, find an empty parking lot and practice a few maneuvers. As I say to sailing students, "Practice, practice, practice." - 'And when you feel you've had enough practice, practice some more. After taking the course, I learned that I know enough to know that I have plenty more to learn. As the ol' saying goes, "You don't know what you do't know." "There's always something to learn... 'Or relearn." At the end, Moe advised, "Do not get out on the road until these basic exercises can be performed without thinking about them." This stuck with me. I just completed my CMSP 2-day training and certification at Saddleback Motorcycle Training, and I have to say this place is incredible. I came in as a total beginner. I had never ridden a motorcycle before, not even once. In just two days, I learned more than I ever thought possible not just how to ride, but how to ride safely and confidently. The clarity of the instruction, the timing, the structure of the class, the patience and deep knowledge of the instructors all of it was outstanding. These guys genuinely care about your learning. Perfection This MSF Course was amazing! I was really apprehensive at first because I was brand new to the scene, and it was a group environment(class of 12). Despite all of that! The 2 instructors that I had were nothing short of inspirational. I honestly don't remember names very well, but for sure, Angel stood out amongst the rest. As a complete novice, I recently completed the M1 Safety Riding Class with SRT (Saddleback Rider Training). Admittedly as a 70 year old man, I was a bit apprehensive in taking the class but left the program with a fair degree of confidence and rudimentary skill set in which to build upon as I gain more real life experience as a rider. The SRT program is very comprehensive and structured that begins with a self directed and informative online class and culminates in approximately 8-10 hours of actual ride time. I knew these guys weren't joking around when the first task was to demonstrate the successful buckling of my helmet with my gloves on! Both instructors (Raphael and Angel) were passionate about their mission (developing a safe rider) in ensuring their trainees got the ride exercises right as well being patient when making technique corrections and fielding the most basic of questions throughout the two days. I was fortunate that due to the Easter Holiday, the instructor to student ratio was in my favor as I was one of only three other riders. Having said that, the early morning class had 12 participants with two instructors so I believe the six to one ratio is what one can expect. In addition, I might add that the loaner bikes are in great running condition and cared for. I am looking forward to garnering more real life experience as a rider this summer and most likely will return to take the intermediate course next Fall. Having no bike riding experience whatsoever, I thought maybe I would get a vespa because it's automatic and easier to handle. I didn't realize that I would need a bike license or permit to test ride a vespa. Plus, the seller at the bike shop kind of hinted that vespa riders don't usually get the "greeting waves" from bikers because they putt, putt instead of zoom, zoom... LOL So I thought if I have to get a riding license to ride a vespa, I might as well toughen up and learn how to ride a bike. I have visited several bike shops in search of the right bike for my petite size and most of them recommended Saddleback Rider Training, saying they're the best! I booked the class and so glad I did. Saddleback has the best schedule that works well with my busy work schedule. When I signed up, I can complete the online safety course that is about 4-6 hours on my own time. The online course was so helpful in learning about good safety riding habits which I feel so important that even seasoned riders would benefit from. The riding portion of the class was great! We were in a group of 6 riders and were given clear instructions, demonstrations and feedback on bike riding techniques. Our instructor, Mike was awesome! He's so passionate about riding and it shows because on one of his demonstrations, he rode his big adventure bike so beautifully and gracefully through the zig zag and extremely tight circle that we were all in awe and applauded. It actually makes me want to take more classes to better my skills. Everyone in the class passed thanks to Mike who did such a wonderful job in coaching us. Starting out, many of us had fear of judgment or failure which maybe prevented us from giving it a shot in the first place. Troy and Angel led a great beginner's class, ultimately ensuring that everyone would succeed and no one was left behind Regardless of skill level, don't worry you won't be judged and only accepted here because everyone here (including the class itself) wants to see you succeed and will be cheering you on! A great beginner course that everyone should take before getting a license. Its about 10 hours over 2 days and goes through the basics of low speed throttle control, weaving, emergency stopping, cornering using SPAT technique, swerving, and general riding. George and Angel are absolutely professional and very good at focusing on each individual. One suggestion to get the most out of this class: practice using your bike beforehand. While this is a beginner class and the instructors are very good and patient, some students arrive at the course with no bike experience whatsoever - which is absolutely fine as they will learn so much during the 2 day course. Most people I was talking to at the course did not realize that you can go to the DMV whenever you want and take the written test before taking the course. If you take the written test you will get a permit that allows you to practice on the road (please don't!) and in parking lots with a few restrictions such as no highway, no passengers, and only during the daytime. This way you can learn how to use the clutch and brakes and upshift and downshift before you take the course. If you do this and then take the course you will get so much more out of the training. You will spend the two days learning great riding techniques instead of stalling and restarting your bike all day. read more

DEFINITELY recommend this class! I've been riding a little under 2 months on a permit, and decided to take this course to get my license. I was worried I'd be wasting a weekend taking this course, worrying it would be dull and boring. I was so wrong! First off, the staff here is amazing! Not only do they have a lot of knowledge to drop in such a short amount of time, they are also entertaining, and very attentive to evvery single rider. Our group ranged from a couple people with years of riding experience to a few people that have never even sat on a motorcycle, and they curated every single student to gear them in the right direction. One of the students seemed to struggle a lot at first, but our entire class successfully completed the course and are eligible for an M1 license now. We all seemed to grow close within such a short time, and we all learned a lot. And if you're already riding and have a bike, they will give you pointers on how to control your bike even better, because different bikes cater to different riders, and require some different maneuvers to achieve the same goal. If you are looking for a great way to get closer to your M1, while learning a lot and having fun doing it, thus is the place.
