Just over an hours drive down the M1 from home. Accessible from the Old Pac route as well if you prefer a more windy drive for your car or motorbike. Scoping out the place for my brothers birthday and I have absolutely no hesitations recommending. I was in awe from the moment we arrived. From the Clydesdales in the paddock across the road as we parked, to the comforting aroma of fire and food as we walked up the driveway. The building itself is simply stunning. The mix of wood and sandstone makes me want to take up country living. For a 9:30 breakfast booking in winter, I was unsure what to expect comfort wise. We were escorted through the cosy indoor area to the semi enclosed balcony. Outdoor heaters warmed the available space with the fireplace offering both heat and a spectacular focal point. The menu for some of my family members could be considered gourmet but anything less would not do the venue justice. My partner went with the safe option of bacon and eggs (how you like). Plenty of bacon which was perfectly crisp and sourdough made on site that wasn't a mission to slice. I went with something a little different; the smoked trout with poached eggs and pickled cucumber. If I could fault anything it would be a smaller portion size to what I'm used to but otherwise it was delicious and well presented. We had to ask for sugar, salt and pepper but given the current circumstances regarding COVID 19 I can understand why those things are no longer readily available on tables. Sharing is not caring right now. We went for a little walk around the pond after and had a look at the nursery. Definitely a place worth visiting and I look forward to returning.

If you are expecting fancy drinks and cocktails, then you need to head somewhere else. But if you want a nice drink, with a relaxed vibe and atmosphere then come right in. They do have a fine list of cocktails (nothing overly fancy - but sometimes that is not a good thing), and very good list of wine. This bar also does food - I honestly didn't try the food but it looked (and smelled) quite good. There is seats outside the bar, and also if you head back there is a small sitting area out the back. However, this is a small bar so if you are coming with a large group you might find it hard to get a table. Especailly because all the tables are for an average size of 4.

The Mill has a really quiet, easy going vibe (which is pretty much just Avalon in general) and has a decent selection of beers, wines and cocktails on offer. Staff were friendly and willing to make suggestions and the food smelt pretty awesome too! It's quite small- so don't come here with the extended family, but I will definitely be coming back here again. *for the record, nothing wrong with a Tooheys old every now and then- just making a point.

We ordered Steak,Pizza and Chicken Parmigiana. The chicken had a side of hollandaise and it was disgusting. Steak came out cold and slightly over cooked, can you blame them tho? we did wait an extra 40 minutes after the pizza and chicken had came out,we had to ask someone to retrieve the steak, who knows how long it would of taken if we didn't ask. Plus the service was horrible. Meals came out 25 minutes apart minimum even tho we ordered at the same time. Staff is lovely though,We cannot remember the name of the red haired bloke who said goodbye on the way out but he is by far the nicest member of the ob. You order at one bar and then pick up your food at another. It's very DIY here, no servers. The atmosphere is very much child-friendly-pub style, with a playground and even a jump house for kids (not sure if that's always there or if we came on a good day). Lots of families were around, parents having drinks while their kids chased each other outside. The wedges we got came in a huge bowl. We got a much bigger serving than I expected, which was nice since it ended up being dinner. The service wasn't bad but it wasn't super friendly. There isn't anything terrible about this place, but there isn't anything really great about it either.

It's an American Ranch style smoke house…read more Like most restaurants that start up in the central coast its minimalistic in design and menu. The atmosphere has a sense of tension, the feeling you get when you want a restaurant to surprise you with good food, drinks and price, unfortunately SOW doesn't do any of them very well. The menu in the US can be found at most road side truck stops, nothing new here only that it's slightly misplaced in Umina. Not that it shouldn't be there it's just that because of the prices of the food and drink I can't seem to believe they'll have a loyal customer base. Well not all year round. I'm surprised given the location and the cost of rents in the area they couldn't be more generous with either the servings or the prices. In fact the restaurant is far more suited to Surry Hills, and charges the same prices. There's only one healthy option on the menu an ode to vegetarians, but without any enthusiasm and priced as the most expensive, it would seem they were trying to avoid the subject. Being so close to the coast and a fishing wharf I'm surprised there is no fish on the menu smoked or not. The drinks menu is interesting and leans towards the craft beers and cocktails. The wine list is appalling and unnecessarily slim. A glass of average wine at $11.00 it's cheaper to drink in Surry Hills. Overall it's a bar that wants to be a restaurant that wants to be a bar but probably can't because of licensing. I'd definitely go back for a drink and bar snack if they reviewed their pricing. In fact it's close to being the go to place, if they could get it right and find their appropriate audience for the location. The service was good, attentive and appropriate.

The pancakes were sweet and well balanced with mascarpone! The coffee was smooth and the service friendly. We followed sweets with a brisket Rueben burger, poutine tater tots and a pumpkin salad for balance. Being a brisket lover I have high standards and this brisket measure up nicely; succulent, tasty and juicy. The salad was tasty but a few more options in the salad department would be nice(fennel citrus???). We devoured the poutine taters in no time, dripping in tasty house gravy and mozzarella. The hero of the meal was the brisket in my book, washed down nicely with a golden ale. If you enjoy southern US diner food, then you won't be disappointed with sounds on west, the jukebox tunes add to the charm! And they stock Henry's gin from distillery botanica in Erina. Great stuff.

The menu was primarily seafood, also not a surprise. I decided to order a salad, not really in the mood for seafood. There was roast cauliflower, steak, chicken Parmesan, and various pizzas in addition to fishy dishes. The place was also packed, so I was glad we got an outside table. I thought my salad was delicious. It had fennel and Parmesan cheese shavings over the greens. I don't know what the greens were, but everything went well together and it was a generous portion. I had second thoughts about salad when I saw the amazingly presented entrees my dining companions had selected. After starting out with a beautiful Bloody Mary, my daughter-in-law had a crumbed dory burger with chips(fries in the States). It had two fish patties coated in herbed crumbs and she said she almost always ordered it, it was so good. It looked delicious but I stuck with my salad. My son had beer-battered flathead fish and chips. It was perfect with crunchy, lightly browned coating covering flakey white fish. I snagged a few of his fries which were also perfect. Prices in restaurants are always higher than in the U.S., but how likely are we to find fish like dory or flathead on the menu? Additionally, waitstaff in Australia are paid a living wage and don't rely on tips.
