The venue here is pretty big but there is only a couple of waiters so the service is slow. We had the biggest group of a table of 5. The food here was ok as I've had better. The best dish was the mango sticky rice! Fresh mangos and not too sweet with the sticky rice to be just at the right texture.

5/5!!! The food is sooooooo delicious!!! The downside is that it's far from where I live. I came here last week with my friends after hike. I forgot to take lots of pics because I was soooo hungry. The owner (the Thai auntie) was super nice! I order mango curry with riceberry, but she messed up the order and thought I ordered massaman curry. But, she right away made my order (this is the reason I didn't take pic--starving!). Oh, one thing I like from this place is that they have riceberry rice!! I miss this rice. I grew up eating this. My mom usually mix riceberry rice with sticky rice and palm sugar with coconut cream as dessert. Amazing! Anyways, I love that this place has that rice. The mango curry is rich in flavor, generous in meat and mangoes+pinneapple. Super delicious! Aside from mango curry, I ordered hot thai tea, which is good. No sugar, but I still kinda taste the distinct thai tea taste--the best thing is you can get a refill. For dessert I ordered the mango sticky rice. Authentic level of deliciousness for Asian dessert = not too sweet. They color their sweet sticky rice with butterfly pea and it was not too sweet. Perfect! Mango was a little sour but still good. It balances the sticky rice. I will definitely come back!!!

I was super excited when I realized most of this place is vegan, but was disappointed by flavor. I ordered the Fontina Panino (vegan sausage, fontina cheese, arugula and fennel mustard on ciabatta) and a cortado to drink. We take out seat in the very cool back room, and only after 5 or so minutes the drink and food arrives. Now I am a complete foodie, really tough on everything I eat, but after one bite I was in love. To the point where I asked Lauren, the owner, what mustard they were using, and then ordered a panini press when I got home hoping to recreate the magic. Perfectly chewy bread, just the right balance of sweet and savory, and that mustard. Truly amazing. My wife ordered the avocado toast which she said was perfection. I wish I could bundle this place up and ship it to New Haven because I'd be eating one of those sandwiches every week. As for everything else: The service was great. The atmosphere laid back and funky. Everything was reasonable priced. LOVE LOVE LOVE Cafe Joust!

I'd had those taco nights on my mind lately and this hit the spot. The BBQ jackfruit burrito was also great - I had a few bites of my spouse's. Non-vegan spouse was 100% satisfied with burrito. Fried pickles were great and rumor has it this special will be around awhile. They're as thin as french fries and they must use some sort of sorcery to get them evenly battered and coated. These were perfect for sharing with someone who normally hate fried pickles because they're too thick and who hates mayonnaise. Burrito Burrito must have designed these just for us because these come with a red pepper crema instead of an aioli. Diagnosis: delicious.

Their menu is extensive and impressive; they have some all-star dishes on their permanent menu as well as a rotating daily menu with a legendary lineup of seasonal items. I really appreciate that they have dishes that are hard to come by such as lentil loaf and lasagna, and these never disappoint. The lentil loaf is unique; it is a little brick of lentils (not your traditional sliceable mush of breadcrumbs and minced veggies). It's very well seasoned and the tomato sauce on top is not overly sweet. The mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy and (very) garlicky greens make it a great meal. The lasagna is one of my favorite dishes. It's pasta-free and just made from layers of sliced zucchini and other veggies sandwiched with their delicious crumbly housemade cashew cheese. The herby tomato sauce is super flavorful. The side salad and garlic bread that accompany it are great also; an ultra comforting meal. We enjoyed the macro meal, although honestly not as much as the other dishes. The pan-seared tofu was delicious, but the arame seaweed salad was super seaweedy and salty - a bit much for me. I'm also not sure why they didn't serve it in a bowl, which would have made the rice etc. easier to eat. It seemed to be missing something - perhaps avocado, or a hunk of sweet potato. A few items at the Garden Cafe are a little perplexing, compared to how perfect most of their food is. The tempeh is just ok. It's heavily marinated in a sweet and salty sauce and kind of strange. Also disappointing that it's just a big brand tempeh rather than one of the local tempeh brands available in the area. The housemade focaccia is also bizarre. The texture made me think it was gluten-free (but it's not). Is it whole wheat?? If that's the case, awesome, but they should mention that on the menu, so you aren't taken aback when you don't get pillowy airy bread and instead get something flat and gray that could be mistaken for a biscotti. We LOVE the Garden Cafe and wish more places like this existed serving organic classic meals. We wish they would open a location in New York City, but until then, we will be making the drive!

We were there for lunch on a weekend and it was not busy at all. Looks to be a family run business. Service was good with only the lady and her daughter working the front. We ordered the Thai tea and it was a bit too sweet. The Tom Yum noodle soup was good but also a bit on the sweet side compared to what I've had in other restaurants. But I do like it though. Tastes more like the Vietnamese version. The chicken curry puffs were good with the sweet and sour dipping sauce. Though a bit pricey with only 3 puffs for $8. Also curry flavor could have been a bit stronger. We will have to go back to try more off their menu.
