The owner is very stressed out, the food is not very good and the bread is not Italian bread. It's very soft and mushy. I think the waitresses and the bartender tried to be nice, but the ambience of the restaurant is tense. I wouldn't recommend it. read more

What a terrific find, especially since this area is a Vegetarian food desert! This cute little place is tucked away in a small plaza and could be easily overlooked, it should probably be better advertised. It should be mentioned that the service was better than I expected for a single young server with six plus tables going requiring the hostess step in to help. There was also a healthy bar crowd seated for dinner many who appeared to be regulars. The drinks came right away and the wait times were about average for appetizers and meals which was fine, we were in no rush. The food was all delicious, all vegetarian and reasonably priced. Of the three people who went with me, only one other was Veg but everyone was able to order something they liked. The wine list was excellent for a small establishment and all the food from appetizers to dessert were thoughtfully prepared with fresh ingredients. If you appreciate fresh, seasonal ingredients and especially if you think Vegetarian food is "fussy" or dull this experience will clear that up. I would recommend this place to anyone; no matter your preference you will find something tasty! read more

This vegetarian bistro is super cute! The food is absolutely amazing and the service is superb! Definitely try this place, you won't be sorry or go away hungry. We ordered a pepperoni pizza and also The Steve & Barb white pizza with pesto sauce, roasted red peppers and portabella mushrooms. Absolutely amazing! The food is good. The large Caesar salad with oil cured olives is nice to share-good homemade dressing. The pizza is pretty good-we always ask for crispy. Sometimes it's crispy, sometimes it's not. The real issue is the atmosphere. When Barb is there the bar atmosphere is nice-when Steve is there not so much. Steve is not a super friendly guy unless he knows you. We went one night when the kitchen was short staffed. Understandably stressful but Steve was not nice to people that came in. Their menu says "vegetarian friendly." I would venture to say that they go well beyond just being "friendly" to vegetarians... and that's OK with me. If you look at their menu on their webpage, you will find meatballs and pepperoni listed under the pizza toppings, and meatballs with marinara sauce under the pasta heading. Otherwise, it's veggie meatballs, veggie roni, veggie sausage, veggie bacon, and veggie chicken. Most of the dishes offered are totally vegetarian and don't even include those veggie proteins I just mentioned. From a very extensive wine list my wife chose a glass of Heller Estate organic Cabernet Sauvignon ($12.50) after having tasted the Scott Family Estate Pinot Noir - Arroyo Seco offered by our friendly and attentive server/bartender. Even I the beer drinker liked that Cab. They don't have any beers on draft, but they do offer a very nicely curated list of more than a dozen bottled beers. I decided upon the Lost Coast Downtown Brown ($4.50). It was definitely one of the most flavorful browns I've ever enjoyed. While we waited for our entrées to be prepared, we were brought about a half loaf of fresh and warm Italian bread with a tray of oil, balsamic vinegar, and herbs that our server described but I don't remember. Tossed between a dish called The Thomas Jefferson ($18.95 - a stack of marinated eggplant & roasted red peppers topped with mozzarella & marinara sauce, surrounded by onions, squash, broccoli, carrots, chickpeas & olives), and a "house favorite" Tuscan Special ($20.95), my wife went with our server's suggestion of the Tuscan Special. It consisted of a very large portion of sautéed spinach, roasted red peppers, artichoke hearts, and mixed olives in a white wine, oil and garlic sauce over bowtie pasta, and topped with feta cheese and fresh tomatoes. We both thought it was very tasty with fresh ingredients and a nice mix of textures. More than half of it came home with us. I selected The Paul McCartney ($20.95) - baked tofu with portabella mushrooms and marinara sauce, topped with mozzarella and a side of bowtie pasta. Once again, a really nice mix of textures as the baked tofu had a different chew than the portabella. The cheese was beautifully browned on top and I really liked the marinara sauce - not too sweet, not bitter, good flavor. As an aside, our server mentioned to my wife as she served her meal that the chef didn't add any additional salt or butter in the preparation of her dish. It made sense since she already had the mix of olives in it and the wine, oil and garlic sauce provided sufficient moisture. I don't know, however, if that information that she shared applied to all the dishes that he prepares. Service was excellent, atmosphere is pleasant, background music is really enjoyable. If, like us, you're not vegetarian, go and enjoy yourself anyway. read more

Last night was my third (or fourth?) visit here over the last several years. Somehow, I have never posted a yelp review. Every visit has been exceptional. I love that there is something for everyone without being weird...and there are a TON of choices for those that don't eat/like meat. In fact, one of my friends was slightly overwhelmed last night and said, "I'm not used to having so many choices...". (She's not exactly a vegetarian but almost...). So, if you're a crew of vegans, vegetarians and meat-eaters...you can all find something on this menu. Here's what we ordered last night: Starters: -Warm bread served with olive oil: crispy crust with a warm. soft middle. Olive oil dipping sauce seasoned perfectly with spices and balsamic vinegar -Cheese and olive platter - 3 different kinds of cheese with several varieties of olives; along with marinated mushrooms, sundried tomatoes, white beans and garlic bread. YUM. Main courses: -Gluten free pasta with marinara sauce and meatballs - solid review there - even though the consistency of the pasta is different when it's rice based (to be expected) - she really liked the marinara sauce. -Veggie ravioli - again - good review -"Albert Einstein" which is baked eggplant parmigiana topped with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese with a side of pasta - no complaints here, either! -I had the Portobello Puttanesca served over cavatelli. I love the puttanesca sauce here...I keep getting the same thing every time. Lots of olives, capers, artichokes and portobello mushrooms...absolutely delicious. The portion was so gigantic that I have leftovers for at least one more meal (maybe 2!). Service was friendly; our waiter was smiley, pleasant and efficient. The prices here are a little bit on the high side (for pasta), but the ingredients are fresh and everything is served piping hot. They don't take credit cards, so bring cash or a check. If you forget...there's literally an ATM across the parking lot. It's a small, intimate place. Great for a date or a small group of people that you enjoy spending time with. I'll certainly be back. I think I'll try one of the pizzas next time...they looked delicious. read more

Superb, if not slightly overpriced, traditional yet creative American style-Italian fare tucked away in a strip mall off Rte 146 in clifton park. I was so glad my partner and I were able to get a reservation this Valentine's Day and I'm happy to report that the trek up to Antipasto's from Albany is worth it! They have a varied international wine list and beer selection and a good ambiance. Surprisingly, you don't feel like you're in a strip mall! All of the pizzas and pastas are customizable to your dietary specs, including GF and whole wheat options, soy cheeses, and veggie meats (most of which are vegan). I really appreciated the pesto sauce, which was chunky and packed with pure basil flavor and crunchy pine nuts. My only complaint is I wish the pesto were more garlicky. I suspect if I had asked them to saute some garlic in the dish, they probably would have. Consider them your vegetarian italian grandmother for the evening. (We all need one.) My only other small complaint was that my fettuccine was a little passed al-dente, but I have this complaint about most restaurants I go to, which isn't many because I'm much more inclined to make Italian food for myself. I am not going to deduct a star because I think it's a problem with American diners more than the restaurateurs... Americans don't really know anything about pasta. read more

Well.... May be its a 3.5 restaurant. Looked like an authentic Italian family based restaurant. They have a good selection of craft beers and local wines which we loved. The decor was very old school but you get a good vibe from the restaurant. My wife ordered one of the specials - veg lasagna in a creamy basil sauce which she really liked. On the other hand, I ordered a 4 cut pizza with their gourmet toppings which was okayish. Their pizza base is much thicker than a traditional or pan pizza. It was close to a deep dish pizza. Secondly, it was way too much cheesy. I was stuffed rather than full. Like some other reviewers have mentioned, they have a lot of veggie options - in fact just many to get you overwhelmed. And they have some unique veggie toppings for pizza. They only accept cash or local check. read more

Antipasto's is a collection of mostly hits and a few misses for our group for our 2 visits to the new locations and a few to the previous location. The hits include: - excellent friendly and knowledgeable service on each of our visits - amazing bottled beer list. One of the best curated beer selections you will find - great wine list (so I'm told - I'm not a wine guy) - the famous vegetarian onion soup with deeply flavored broth - an incredibly wide ranging mostly vegetarian menu. - a flavorful fresh tasting marinara sauce The misses on our visits have included a pesto sauce that was surprisingly bad to our tastes and a strange Putanesca sauce that had more chickpeas (?) than anything else. The misses have made me nervous about ordering other pasta dishes. Last visit I ordered a pizza to celebrate the end of my no-carb diet. I prefer a thin crisp crust on my pizza and this was the opposite - more of a deep dish style crust, but I really liked it. I had the Super Sweeney (Ricotta, parmesan, mozzarella & gorgonzola cheeses and calimata olives topped with fresh chopped tomato (white)) plus a sliced meatball I added. The combination of flavors was excellent especially the hits of gorgonzola and the excellent kalamata olives. My advice is to check out the Yelp reviews ahead of time to scout out dishes that others have recommended. read more

I am loving the new development in Clifton Park. It is right down the street from us, so it is super convenient. I decided to give this place a shot. I didn't quite realize that it was a predominantly vegetarian restaurant. I stopped in to get an order for takeout for my husband and I. The service as great! Everyone was super helpful! My order was ready within 30 minutes. The prices seemed a little steep, especially since several of the meals didn't have any meat. The portions were pretty large, which was a nice tradeoff. I ordered the pasta alfredo with angel hair for my husband. I knew he would want meat of some kind so I ordered a side of meatballs. He said the pasta was delicious and the portion was gigantic. He loved the marinara sauce that the meatballs were in as well. I ordered a pizza. I was hesitant because I usually default to pasta. This pizza was delicious! Holy cow! I have been waiting to find a decent pizza in this area. I may have found it. My husband also approved! I ordered a pizza that had several kinds of cheese on it, Kalamata olives, and tomatoes. I decided to go out on a limb and try veggie bacon. I know...I know...but I thought lets give it a roll. My oh my...DELICIOUS! Seriously people, don't judge until you try it! You couldn't tell. A great place for a quiet dinner for two or a fun night at the bar with friends. The always enlightening conversation with staff adds to the charm of this iconic Clifton Park establishment. We came here about 7pm and the restaurant closes at 7:30pm on Sundays. The gentleman that greeted us was very friendly and said please sit and we can not only accommodate you, but you can stay as long as you like. My husband and I decided we were going to split everything, we started with a cup of pasta fagioli. We then ordered a small josey whales salad with dressing on the side and an eight slice carbonara pizza. Everything was fresh and amazing. Our waitress was attentive and the atmosphere was wonderful. First time going to this restaurant. Once we sat down I looked behind me to simply identify where the restroom was but noticed the kitchen door slightly open. Upon looking further, I noticed no movement or noise coming from the kitchen. Once the food came out, eggplant parmigiana for myself and mushroom ravioli for my girlfriend, we immediately noticed that the texture and taste was distinctly that of previously frozen food. I once again noticed the kitchen door open and it appeared that there was no chef, stacks of dirty dishes and a 20 year old kid in a hair net. We deduced that they are obviously reheating frozen food. Will not be going back to this place nor would ever recommend. read more

Hard to believe the Daily Gazette ran a review of a vegetarian restaurant in which the reviewer ordered the only meat dish on the menu. Aren't critics compensated for their meals? What would it have cost her to be adventurous and try the "chicken" parm? The mock chicken here at Antipasto's is the same one that has people lined up out the door for at a vegan restaurant in Phoenix. It's addictive. Plus, at Antipasto's, they have vegan cheese and gluten-free pasta. My mom had the pumpkin ravioli, which was a little on the sweet side. My father had something that looked like chicken marsala but he gobbled it up so quickly I didn't get to try it. I had the "chicken" parm and it was as good as ever. Portions run large so you will probably take home a doggie bag. The Gazette's review was positive, and that's where we agree: Antipasto's is highly recommended. read more

This is our go-to place in Clifton Park. In a land of commercial chain restaurants, this is a real local place with authentic Italian food and a GREAT wine list. We love their pizza, but tonight was an entree night since we were going to a concert across the street at Upstate Concert Hall. Pics are of the veggie chicken parm--oh yeah, it's a vegetarian restaurant where you forget about meat-and the Van Gogh salad. The salads are always really fresh and full of good ingredients. Also, there are a bunch of great wines by the glass. If you are in Clifton Park and want to eat real food surrounded by fun people, do not miss this place. read more

Positive Yelps, conveniently located on our way to Proctors Theatre and many vegetarian choices were our reasons for visiting Antipasto's on the evening of March 14, 2014. We were promptly seated and the service was okay. The menu featured a good variety but I found the offerings to be quirky and generally unappetizing. My wife was intrigued by the special - Mushroom with Red Wine Stuffed Ravioli which she ordered while I selected the French Onion Soup to start and Escarole with Pasta and White beans entree. Tasty Italian bread was delivered ahead of our meal. That was the highlight. The French Onion Soup was okay but perhaps the cheese was heaped on too thickly. The main course arrived to our dismay. The presentations lacked finesse and it was clear to see that my wife's ravioli dish was swimming in oil. She did not enjoy it. As for my dish, very bland. This is not the way good food is prepared. I also have issue with the value. Indeed the prices are high as other Yelpers have indicated. My Escarole and White Bean entree, $18.95. Insulting! Heed my warning, save your money and skip Antipasto's. read more

Let me start by saying the food is good, the staff is terrible and the overall experience was terrible, terrible terrible. I've eaten here several times before and it was fine. No real problems. Now, in their new location. Never again. it started well, although slow as it was a little bit full. The warm spinach salad was excellent and the two entrees we ordered were also good. The table bread and dipping oil, not so much. The initial problem was the loud women yacking away next to us about her kids and sectional sports competition. Finally she left ...except to meet someone on the way out. More yacking about kids and sectional sports in a Very Loud voice. Finally the barmaid/server joined in. Pouring them several free drinks (DUI anyone?) and adding in her loud, obnoxious voice. Perhaps she already had too much to drink. The owner (called "z") and our server sat nearby at the bar, talking to one another. We had long since finished our meals and wanted to leave. No server, no check....I placed my credit card on the table and stared intently at the server and the owner. Again, no action from them as the annoying and now LOUDER conversation continued. If you are a vegetarian, this is a MUST VISIT. It's a little pricey so it only gets 4 stars because I think it should be a better value. They have a big menu of pizza, pasta, and fake meat entrees. We went for the fake meat in order to sample it. It's like gourmet vegetarian food and really good. The salads were the highlight. The ingredients and dressing combos were outstandingly creative and delicious. To my mind, worth a drive for the salads. Lots of different brews to choose from too. We were so amazed with the meal that we had to try dessert too, which was also very good. I agree that it's not just "good for Albany." However, I'm not so sure a non-vegetarian would be as delighted with the place as we were. We're not used to having so many menu choices so we were VERY VERY EXCITED. read more

The perfect meal: a vegetarian place with the best meatballs ever! I know...but All Vegetarians have non-vegetarian friends, right? I asked, and they make their meat balls off-premises and keep them separate in the kitchen! I had the sautéed mixed vegetables with the meatballs on the side with fresh grated Parmesan, and three 3 ounce tastes of red wine that were each delicious! Simple, but it's the way it's all cooked and the quality of the ingredients that make this special. Just left this restaurant and am quite underwhelmed. The waiter was very welcoming and knowledgeable and the Chianti was delicious. We started our order with the Club Med Bruschetta. I have never had bruschetta on a piece of Texas toast. It was soggy, squishy, and way too salty. We then waited for our meals to arrive- the eggplant parm and the mushroom ravioli. The ravioli arrived in a pool of liquid- not just an pond, but an ocean-worth of Marsala juice (not a sauce, just plain liquid!). The dish was so overwhelmingly "mushroomy" and two bites were enough. Now let's move onto the eggplant...there was so much sweet, cinnamon-like-flavored marinara sauce that it just turned into a soggy mush. Antipasto's is generally good. They offer vegan and vegetarian options that many places do not. They also have a great wine selection. Plus, their ambience is pretty great for being in a shopping complex. In my perspective, this is probably a great place for the Clifton Park restaurant scene, but the price is comperable to what you'd pay for a better meal in Saratoga, Schenectady, Troy or Albany. My boyfriend and I have had several different dishes there by now and all of them were relatively uninteresting. As a vegan I was put off by having to pay $4 or $5 extra to sub vegan cheese in place of dairy cheese on my eggplant parm... I know how much daiya costs and it's not nearly that much more than regular cheese. If they were vegan friendly, that would just be a standard option. I'd recommend this place to people who happen to be in Clifton Park, have a decent amount of money to spend and are seeking vegetarian options. Otherwise there are definitely better options around. read more

Its vegetarian but meat eaters should not be scared away there is something for everywhere on the menu and if you must have meat, try the meatballs! Service is knowledgeable and caring. Antipasto's is my favorite restaurant, hands-down (and I'm not a vegetarian). It has all of the ingredients that I look for: fabulous wine, great food, outstanding service, and awesome character. I always joke that I'm too busy to do a lot of research on wine, so I rely on Antipasto's to do all the leg work for me - and they deliver every time! The owner's passion for and knowledge of wine is exceptional. I'm a creature of habit and usually order the Special Spinach Salad (it has warm mushrooms - yum!) and the Florentine Pizza (spinach and several cheeses). I'm not disappointed when I explore other entrees, especially the lasagna - I have to admit that it's better than my lasagna. The atmosphere and staff are warm and inviting. We are not from the immediate area but stopped here for dinner on our way to a football playoff game at Shenendehowah High School. Service was polite (not friendly or prompt - just polite)... atmosphere was pleasant... and there were good vegetarian selections. Those were the highlights. We had one cup and one bowl of soup and an "eight cut" pizza with two items (it's about a 16" pizza.) Soup was yellow split pea and very good. Oddly, it took about 25 minutes for our soup to arrive (we had no appetizers or drinks.) It was about 25 minutes later when we finally got the pizza. It was pan baked on a metal pan with a fairly non-descript crust that was reminiscent of Pizza Hut crust but not oily like PH's is. The sauce was bland and there was very little of it. The cheese was good but there was far too much of it. The cheese overpowered the sauce as well as the mushrooms and black olives we had chosen as toppings. I won't go so far as to call it seriously mediocre but it was definitely below average pizza. Overall it took one hour and ten minutes from start to finish to get two soups and a pizza - of which we only ate half (at that point we were late for the game.) Prices are high. $21.95 for lasagna and $17.95 for past and meatballs? Seriously? Our dinner was $28 with tax - a price I wouldn't quibble with of the quality were better and service was more prompt and a bit friendlier. There were some interesting, albeit pricey, choices on the menu, and they appear to have a loyal local clientele. But I wouldn't return based on overall performance during our visit. read more

As an Albany Native living in Los Angeles I don't feel overly compelled to write many Albany reviews. However, Antipasto's is food that I still dream of even 3,000 miles West. Antipasto's is so good that when extolling its virtues to others, it need be mentioned that not only is Antipasto's good but it's not JUST "Good for Albany." ok i went here the other night with a couple pals and it was good. before i got my food they brought out some bread with balsamic vinaigrette, olive oil and basil(?)....i was a likin'. i ordered the "chicken" parm but without the parm. i guess they didn't have vegan soy cheese. i was a little disappointed that they didn't have it but the food was still good. The atmosphere here is small so i wouldn't recommend large groups. The place is more of a candle lit atmosphere with locals sipping wine at the bar. i liked the overall feel of the restaurant but i wasn't prepared for how small it was. i would come here again if i was in the area. p.s. they don't take credit cards. read more
