Tamarind Thai in Latham is one of my favorite Thai restaurants! There are several dishes that are already "accidentally vegan" meaning it is a plant-based meal that doesn't include any animal products like eggs, butter, dairy milk, seasoning or sauces made from seafood or mollusks. Their curry dishes are all accidentally vegan, and you can keep them vegan when you add a protein by choosing either steamed or fried tofu. The staff is so polite and extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the dishes and can help you customize your meals if you are vegan, vegetarian, gluten intolerant, or have any other food sensitivities. On this visit they were decorated for the holidays. Beautiful red, silver, and white balls hung from the ceiling, string lights, pine garland, and a flocked Christmas tree in the front window all made the restaurant cozy and inviting. I had the curry fried rice with spring rolls and unsweetened iced tea and my husband had the hot vegetables entree with white rice and a side of sticky rice. read more

We love this restaurant! The food is amazing, the service is excellent, and if you're dining in you're going to like it a lot! Many people get take out from here which I will admit, we have done twice but we really enjoy dining in at the restaurant because it's fun. The staff is really nice and extremely helpful. When we say vegan they know what we mean which is difficult sometimes because a lot of people have misconceptions about what that entails. You have to think about what ingredients the noodles were made with, do they contain egg or not. What sauces are traditionally used, is it a fish sauce? Is something cooked with butter? So just saying no meat, eggs, or dairy doesn't always make people think about everything but this restaurant gets it. Also people ask well what about gluten? It has nothing to do with being vegan it is related to having celiac disease. Bottom line, if you have food allergies or sensitivities, they know what is in their food and they will tell you or offer suggestions to help you out. The spring rolls, the gyoza, the crazy noodle (drunken noodle), curry rice, fresh rolls, all of it has been good everytime we go. This is my new favorite place to go for Thai food. The food is delicious. The staff are incredibly accommodating. Our kids locked themselves out of the house before our appetizers arrived and they paused firing up our entrees until my hubby returned. The appetizers were already being cooked, but they were so tasty that they remained tasty cold. I look forward to returning to try the Panang and Massaman curries. My only issue was the waft of very cold air every time the door opened. I am not sure what they can do about it though. It was quite cold. The delicious Tom Kha soup could only heat me temporarily. We were greeted by a very friendly waitress when we arrived at this restaurant. I really like the decor inside and there was no wait. We were seated right away at a booth. The iced tea and Thai iced tea were both delicious. We ordered the Curry noodle soup, Drunken noodle with vegetables, and the yellow curry. Everyone was happy with their orders. After a long day, we decided to stay in and order takeout. I can't speak to the ambiance or the service but the food hit the spot. I ordered the Tom Kha soup and the Pad-See U both delicious. The soup is flavorful and I love the broth. I ordered medium heat but I wish I'd gone with hot. Next time! The Pad-See U was also delicious. I ordered takeout on a Saturday night and for some reason, I couldn't figure out how to use their online ordering platform so I called to place my order. They were super helpful on the phone and when I went to pick it up, it was waiting for me. The dining room was larger than I expected and there were quite a few people dining in so it's nice to know that's an option next time. I ordered the mild red curry with shrimp and the medium drunken noodles with chicken. The heat in the drunken noodles was perfect - not too much. The curry was fantastic too, I just wish there were more shrimp in it. Overall, the food was delicious so I'll definitely be placing another order and I'm looking forward to dining in at some point too. Highly recommend! read more

Really nothing great. We stopped by on our way to Montreal thinking since this spot had 4.5 stars that it would be bearable. But it wasn't. While the service was good, the food was nothing great. We ordered from the lunch menu a beef green curry, awful the beef was so dry tasted more like jerky beef green curry. The portion was also very small. This lunch dish did come with a soup or salad. I opted for the soup, which was a fish sauce/soy sauce base soup with the tiniest pieces of tofu. It was extremely salty. We also ordered the Thai noodles with glass noodles with tofu. This noodle dish had fresh sprouts, noodles and tofu, that's all. Very bland. Overall nothing to rave about. Highly skip. read more

The food at Tamarind is fresh and tasty and nicely presented. The service is friendly. But if you are fussy about spiciness, be very selective here. I was amazed at just how many entrees had the little red pepper next to them. They can, of course adjust the spiciness of just about everything. But specifying medium spiciness for tom yum soup is going to be a lot different than medium spiciness for an entree. We got our tea promptly, but we weren't given water until the waitress saw me react to the first sip of that soup (admittedly, I want tom yum to be initially spicy and something I get used to as I finish it). I took my date here for Valentine's Day and it was a wonderful experience, from the atmosphere to the service to the food. I was originally going to go to dinosaur barbecue or margaritas but the wait times were out an hour for a table. I cannot state enough that this restaurant blew them out of the water. There was no wait for a table and the service was quick and inviting. We were seated in seconds and our waitress was a joy. The appetizers were amazing, we had the chicken satay, fried calamari, and the fresh summer roll. The fresh summer roll was a bit of an adventurous pick, the basil threw me off a little bit but that's a personal opinion, it was plated beautifully and it was certainly fresh. the calamari and chicken satay were to die for. my date had the pad see-u and it was amazing. I've had pad see-u at just about every other Thai restaurant that I've been to and I can safely say it beat them all, the noodles were bouncy, not overcooked and the sauce was delicious. I had the ginger with crispy duck and everything was cooked to perfection, the green peppers especially. I was surprised by how much meat was included with each meal, they did not skimp. As is expected from a Thai restaurant the medium spice level was a little spicy but as someone who likes hot wings it definitely didn't ruin the dish. I wouldn't recommend it if you aren't sure about spice. Once again I can't thank the staff enough for making my Valentines Day one to remember. This place is on my list to revisit. Very impressed! Driving around Latham, nothing was standing out. So my friend and I popped into Tamarind Thai and we're completely blown away. The service was great, the food was delicious, and the woman running the restaurant was incredibly friendly and efficient. Started with a chicken version of the Summer Roll, the fried dumplings, and then had the Ginger Plate with Chicken. The summer roll was perfect, crunchy, and freshly made, and exactly what I had hoped it would be. The fried dumplings were well done, and pretty yummy. But that ginger dish, sauteed with mushrooms, carrots, and onions, was hands down the star of the show. The sauce it was cooked in was delicious, and I couldn't get enough of it mixed in with my rice. Great experience overall and we can't wait to go back! read more

First time trying this place and I'm so glad we did. It's really good and the staff is so friendly! We were surrounded by quite a few others eating in as well as those picking up takeout. Everything looked tempting but I went with the Mango Fried Rice with Chicken and Shrimp. My husband ordered Tom Yum Fried Rice and my son Seafood Tom Kha Soup. We had Siam Spring rolls to start. The vegetarian rolls were deliciously crispy and served with a sweet and sour sauce. My entree was very tasty with sweet and savory flavors mixing with just a little heat which is how I requested it, mild. I would have liked more mango and more shrimp (there were only two) but it was good. My husband enjoyed his as well. Especially the lemongrass and chili flavors. The most interesting of our groups meals was my son's soup. The waitress questioned him on ordering it and I can see why. It's brought out in a large metal tureen with a gas flame in the middle. She brought us all bowls as it's usually shared by the whole table. It had a very intriguing flavor that touched on all the flavor groups. It was a mix of sweet coconut cream, sour tomato, spicy ginger and cilantro and of course seafood. Mussels, squid, white fish, scallops and shrimp. It had an addictive taste and I couldn't stop taking more sips of broth. The wait staff was very attentive frequently refilling our water glasses. I look forward to trying more items soon. read more

I've ordered from Tamarind Thai numerous times and love how they are consistent! I've eaten red curry and pad Thai - both excellent options. I've eaten pad Thai from other establishments and Tamarind Thai, hands down, has the best Pad Thai. Ben and I recently started watching a showing on east Asian cuisine. The first episode covered Cambodian, Thai, and Korean foods which really gave me a craving for some of the flavors used in Thai cooking. Sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and spicy. I haven't eaten a lot if thai food so I tried to order a few typical dishes. I ordered online through their website which uses mealeo and went to pick it up. There was one family eating inside and some takeout orders while I waited. The dishes served while I waited looked like a big portion and the server was very friendly and polite. I would love to eat in sometime. When I got our food home everything was good but the curry had broken a little because of the steam. Not their fault and I'm not complaining. Takeout is almost never as good as dining in. I ordered everything no onions and green peppers which we don't like and there were no mistakes with the dishes. The beef curry was spicy ane the beef very tender. The papaya salad was crunchy and refreshing with a little bitterness from the thinly sliced lime with rind intact. The lemongrass chicken was made with thighs and had a nice finish on the palate. The pork was good but I made the mistake of eating the beef curry first so I was full and my mouth was burning and I couldn't taste as much. I thought the cost value was good and I appreciated the good customer service I received. I would definitely go back again. read more

I can't say I love all Asian food, but I certainly love American Chinese food. My wife really enjoys Japanese cuisine and has been exploring Thai and Korean dishes, so I have been trying to experiment with Thai food. Sadly, it seems from watching cooking shows that most dishes have shallots (yuck), fish sauce, palm sugar, and chilis. Every one, if you believe the tv. I hate any form of onions. So, when we ordered some dishes from this place recently as part of a take-out adventure we may have messed up their "balanced flavors" by getting them no onions and no peppers. Oh well. I had tried the Bangkok chicken from another place and enjoyed it, but it reminded me too much of Chinese food. I wanted something more "authentic." I ordered the lemongrass chicken, which consisted of three large chicken thighs over a bed of attractive carrots, baby corn, and broccoli. A sauce, I assume to dip the chicken in, came on the side. It was very tasty and I enjoyed it but it didn't remind me of Thai flavors... it was just sweet and fatty. Which sums up most Chinese-American food. Lesson learned, next time one further step into the deep end of the Thai food pool! My wife ordered a Thai beef curry which came with green beans in a yellow sauce. It was spicy, and hot, but not killer as we ordered it mild (it was too hot for my wife... she isn't much for spicy food). After my sweet chicken I enjoyed the heat that came from the dish.seen It was sloppy though, and if you eat with chopsticks I suggest not wearing nice clothes. Eating out of order, I then sampled the green papaya salad. I had never seen green papaya before and it was great, though it reminded me a of a vinegar coleslaw salad (which I prefer to mayo coleslaw). The peanuts made it extra crunchy, and the surprise lime wedges which I ate without realizing it contributed real sour and bitter notes that are part of the hallmark for Thai food. I liked that, though next time I will watch out for the lime! I am in a quandary. I want to experience real authentic Thai flavors but don't want to get stuck with an entree I won't like. I also hate onions. I wish that there were Thai and Korean buffets like there are Chinese and Indian. We don't need a hundred... one will do. There must be a market out there for them. Until then, I will cautiously explore Thai food. But, this place made all our food well and I will certainly try them again. read more

By far the best Thai and friendliest service in the Capital Region. We gladly drive down from Saratoga to eat here anytime we're craving Thai. Their Khoi Soi is incredible and not something you see at many other Thai restaurants, highly recommended! The Tom Kha soup is another favorite that I get every trip. There are now two Thai restaurants in Latham. Sri Siam has only been open about 5 weeks at this point in Latham, but they have had an East Greenbush restaurant for over 4 years. I dined at that location shortly after it opened and found it to be good, but not anything that made me want to drive 20 miles to return there. Now, the Latham location is only a bit more than 7 miles away so it was worthy of its own visit. With them not having a beer or wine license yet I had a Thai Iced Tea ($3) and my wife ordered some hot tea ($2). As an appetizer we shared an order of Siam Crab Cake ($6) - five shu mai looking dumplings with a sweet and sour sauce. I can't say I noticed any crab flavor, and the sauce was pretty standard. As is our practice on a first visit to a Thai restaurant, one of us has to order the Green Curry. My wife did so with Tofu ($14). The dish came with Jasmine rice (brown rice was available for an additional $1) and had good flavor with a mix of red pepper, bamboo shoots, string beans, and basil leaves. My wife was never asked how spicy she wanted the dish to be prepared so we think it therefore came out "mild" - certainly by our standards. The sloped serving bowl allowed for an attractive presentation, but there was a minimal amount of green curry at the bottom of the bowl making it difficult to immerse the vegetables in the curry. I ordered the Pad Lardna with pork ($14), a very sizable portion of stir-fried, wide rice noodles with broccoli, baby corn, and carrots in a brown gravy sauce. The sauce was very flavorful, the pork was nice and tender. The noodles were not as wide as I expected, but that's OK. It was a nice dish, but it didn't wow me. Our server was very friendly and our food was served quickly. The menu is large with almost 80 items. There are numerous other Thai dishes that we enjoy and look forward to trying on a future visit. read more

Enjoyed lunch at this establishment with SO on Saturday afternoon. Server was attentive to all who were dining. We enjoyed an appetizer, I had soup and salad. Have eaten at other thai restaurants and found that SriSiam was on par with only one other place. The Tom Kha was a delicious coconut milk broth seasoned with lemongrass and graced with shrimp and straw mushrooms. The Yum Woon Sen is a bean thread noodle salad with great flavor as well. First visit and what a nice experience. Place is simple and clean, small but comfortable for a wheelchair user. Food was so good - spouse had duck in ginger and coconut sauce. I had tofu in a spicy sauce, both of us paid the upcharge for the fried rice as a side which was well worth it. All flavors very distinct and spice added to newbies comfort level. Both iced thai tea and coffee could take place of dessert. Prices and portion size are good for such fresh tastes. The owner was very friendly and gracious, we will be back soon. read more
