We have LOVED Saf Keep for over a decade. It is clean, modern and when I move my late mother's final possessions out, I'll miss the reassuring familiar scent of the shiny concrete halls. I don't know what I would have done without Saf Keep during my mom's move to a senior home, then after her accident, her move to assisted living, then her passing. SafKeep was like sugar helping the medicine of ugly moves of a near century of my mom's archival stuff and art go down. My recent move to Oakland required storage as I temporarily downsized from house to apartment. Research had to be done on line, and SafKeep proved to be right down the street, within a mile of the apartment. The website was easy to navigate, yet being new to storage, I still called and walked through the process with a real person. I went to the office and got some paperwork out of the way the day before the moving van arrived, and so had the chance to check the place out. I don't know what a previous reviewer is referring to about the free van, as it appears just fine. Note that it MUST be returned by 4:00. There is no negotiating to use it later. While my misunderstanding of the rules created a bit of a problem using it as a shuttle to my apartment, I can understand that the office would not have a way to track the truck were it brought in after they closed. (The 4 p.m. return offers them plenty of time to locate a late truck and get it back before closing for the day). All of the staff I have met is friendly, polite, and helpful. The buildings are bright, and the units have their own lighting a well. The grounds, elevators, hallways and units are clean. There always seem to be flat dollies available at the elevators, and you can drive right up and park near your unit or an elevator. I was worried about the cost of storage, but SafKeep has many deals, beyond 1 month, and the staff will help you find the best deal for their facility, base on YOUR needs. I needed a 10x15 unit, (plus another smaller one in the end), and kind of expected it might cost more than it did, so no complaints there. I'd say, if you have a lot of stuff and don't want to pay for storage, then utilize their e-bay or donation unit services! read more

Went to rent a storage unit and was impressed in every possible way. I was on a waiting list, but within 2 days I was notified by Liz that a unit was available. They put it on hold for 4 days so I could come in at my convenience. Met with Edwin Anaya on site who showed us a storage unit cleaner than my house will ever be. He had just washed and mopped it top-to-bottom and was going over it a second time. It was pristine! Was able to rent the unit and got a sizable discount for the first two months PLUS $10 off from spinning the wheel! Setting up the account was easy and we had fun doing it. Really happy we chose this facility. 5/2017 I want to add that we have been through an extremely wet winter and I am pleased to report that the drive-up unit remained completely dry. We've been loyal customers for years. The facility is clean and secure, but a bit awkward. We had a corner unit and the space was not as big as the the rest outside. People would block are vehicle in all the time because of the way the storage was situated. Management never did anything about it. I shopped around and found a better deal (half the price) at StorQuest. Saf Keep kept raising there rates higher and higher, which forced us out of there. Their maintenance staff were always friendly and helpful. We just had issue with management and how they treat their loyal customers and charge extra fees. read more

BUYERS BEWARE! THEY WILL TRY TO SCAM YOU ON THE PRICE! I booked a 5x10 unit online for $83. They advertised 50% off for 3 months. The usual price around is about $90, so I thought this was a good deal. I get there on the move in date, and start the check in process. The person at the counter just told me to sign a bunch of documents. I asked him "Just to make sure, the price is $83, right? With 50% off for 3 months, right?" and he said "Yes sure sure" very quickly, then asked to fill a bunch of forms on a computer they had there. After a 15 minute form entering process (that I had to do), he prints out a bunch of documents for signing. I ask "Can I see the exact price that I will have to pay?" and he answers "It's okay, you don't have to worry about this" (!?). The computer also mentioned a $9 insurance fee on top of the $83 price, which I was curious about. Once again, he just said "It's okay, don't worry about this, it will be included in the final price." After signing 3 forms, he then shows me a paper that states at the very bottom in very small print: "$83 for 3 months, then $166 after" !!! I was very confused. I asked "Isn't it supposed to be $83 half off for 3 months and THEN $83 dollars, not the other way around?" He told me "No sir, what you agreed on was ALREADY 50% off, $166 is the normal price". I told him that this couldn't be right, since the price for this kind of unit anywhere else is around $90, they even had other bigger units not 50% priced off at a much lower price. He was very adamant on the fact that he would not bulge the price since it was apparently what I agreed upon. I was livid, I told him I wanted to cancel immediately. Renting a 5x10 unit for $166 is robbery, they go for way way less everywhere else. I called for his manager, she didn't even say a work and cancelled all my forms. I wasted 45mns of my time going to this place and filling a bunch of forms for nothing, just to get a price hike surprise at the end. I bet they run this scam everytime, and they just shut down their mouths and want you to go away if you figure it out. AVOID!!!!! read more

Such a great sign up experience! I came in with a reservation for a 10x10 unit and Liz and Gabriel were super helpful throughout the whole process. They showed me the unit as well as some other sizes before helping me determine what would be best for my needs. Then they gave price breakdowns to ensure I would get the best rate based off my estimated time frame. Then, they made sure to explain the paperwork and processes as I was reading through it. I even spun the wheel of surprise and got a sweet treat at the end! All in all, it took about 30 minutes in and out. Not to mention how CLEAN the facilities were! This is a wonderful storage facility - very clean, secure and easy. I had initially rented a 10x20 unit when I was selling my family home in Rockridge. I then downsized from the 10x20 into a small 5x10 unit. The facility is so easy to get in and out of and they provide rolling dollies to make moving easier. My first month was 50% off and they also receive mail which was super helpful for me, since I shipped all of my things before moving from NYC to Oakland. The whole facility seemed very clean and well run, which is comforting. They also have month-to-month agreements that make it perfect for storage before finding a new apartment, without signing a contract or anything like that. This place is fantastic! Look, moving is a pain and generally sticking stuff in storage is too, but somehow they make it all really simple. I don't have a car but it wasn't a problem since they have a van available, and they give you a couple hours of fee help getting your big stuff in. At the last minute I had to move all my things out of a place in the south bay and Saf Keep in Oakland saved the day... and at a great discounted price. I was able to use the moving truck when I moved in. I saved money and potential headaches with other rental places. The only odd rule was I had to leave a $300 CASH deposit, no exceptions.
