Tanya has amazing customer service skills. This facility feels well attended to and taken care of. I feel safe here and it's clean.

Let me start by saying that LaTanya is still amazing and the reason that the facility still receives 2 stars. However, one month after posting this review, my storage fee was raised 20% without notice. Since initiating the lease of this space in January of 2020, the monthly cost has gone from $180 to $327. Today we received a notice that there will be limited access to the facility for the next three months because of construction nearby. Looks like I may need to move my belongings to a different company. So disappointing. read more

Simple, you pay for a storage for the size advertised. Units are smaller than advertised. Paid for a 5x10 foot unit. Until measures at 4' 3/4 x 9' and tappers even smaller towards the back of the unit only giving 4 ft of space. The 10 ft length is clearly outside the door of the storage unit as well read more

I've rented over 50 storage spots in my life. Tanya the manager is the captain of her ship. She deals with tremendous challenges at her location due to the demographics of that region. Inside Tanya's gates customers are safe, supported, and truly valued. I was going through a heck of a challenge during my occupancy at 210 Fallon street, and Tanya met me each step of my challenges. She understands how to deal with people of all walks of life, and she does so with respect, courtesy, and also a command presence to keep trouble away from her gates. I started with this storage in Aug. of 2022, I have a 5x10 unit. When I started it was 106, then January of 2023 it became $175 and then in September it's $250! This is how they get you so I move out. Go to Saf Keep Storage instead, they only increase 3 % a year not like this MFS. read more

The storage space was fine, moving in and out was fine, but my problem is with how I felt scammed by the initial price (which was not listed as a introductory offer). I signed up for a 5x10 space with a rate of 75.oo per month plus tax and fees making it 92.00 per month. Afte3 months, I received a tiny postcard (even though they communicated everything else via email) and this tiny postcard informed me that my rate was going to be raised from 92.00 to 172.00 starting on the 4th month. Luckinly, I was not out of town and I was able to go and get my stuff in enough time to avoid paying 172.00, an 80.00 increase! Had I have been out of town for 6 months or a prolonged period of time I would have been stuck paying almost double what I had initially agreed to pay. I find this to be a total scam and they hope after 3 months you are nowhere near the storage unit or have no option but to pay the fee. Again, the staff was curteous and did nothing wrong. The unit was clean and easy to access - so if you are not worried about the cost, I guess they are fine, but this behavior of raising the fee so astronomically is disturbing! read more

Hands down this is the best storage place in the Bay Area. The 2 main reasons are proximity to Jack London Square/Freeways & the most important reason being the amazing customer service that LaTanya provides. LaTanya is literally the best! I checked out a bunch of storage units in Oakland. The unit I rented the end it's right above the elevator and a very reasonable price. The cheapest I could find for that size in Oakland. Great security and easy drive in and out. And I basically fell in love with Tanya, she is professional and warm and really makes you feel like she cares about you. Clean, safe, reasonable expenses, and friendly personnel. What is not to like?

This is a nice facility - clean, pleasant manager and employees - no bad experiences. The only thing that bugs me - and loses them three stars - is that after your initial contract expires, they raise your rates. Often - and a lot. A few years ago we rented a 10'X20' space to house some large and heavy woodworking tools that we don't have room for anymore. They will be hard to move but that's what we will probably end up doing. What a pain. Their move in rates are very reasonable and probably the least expensive of any in the area for what you get. That's how they snag you. Extra Space Storage has raised our rent 7.5% every nine months. What we thought would be a manageable rate when we started has really added up. It would be nice if they showed their good customers some appreciation by keeping their rates steadier. If you'll just be using their facilities for the initial contract period, they're a good deal. If there is a chance that things don't end up going as you planned and you need to store your stuff longer - go somewhere where your rates will not escalate so much. read more

I had a drive-up unit here for two years ending March 2015 which I accessed once or twice per month. The facility is in great shape and I never had trouble getting in or out. There was a two day period where access was not allowed due to maintenance work, and they gave plenty of notice beforehand. I assume pricing is dictated by the Extra Space central office rather than each location, but unexpected and steep rate increases are the norm here. Over two years my rate increased 3 or 4 times, ending at almost double where I started. Toward the end when I felt the amount was getting fairly ridiculous, I found they were advertising identical units for 30% less than I was paying. Everyone should know this going in, as it came as a surprise and left me with a bad impression. For me, the convenient location and type of unit was ultimately more important - I only stopped using them because I moved away from the area. read more

The staff are nice, and the location is pretty central to most of the bay area, and near the freeway. However (there had to be a however right?). The facility had the most insanely designed elevators. They are basically dumbwaiters like you would find in a restaurant. You can't fit much in them. And lord help you if you think you are going to be able to load up the provided cart and actually put it in the elevator. The space provided is far too small to navigate a loaded cart. And worst, the threshold from the parking lot to the elevator's space is not smooth, it is 3 significant bumps that have had the tiniest smidgen of quickrete smeared over them to 'smooth over'. Which in effective use means that if you load anything on your cart more than one high, it WILL fall. It is like some cruel joke! Well after putting up with the weird smells, bad elevator and annoying parking I finally pulled all my stuff out of there. Then they charged me again after I canceled! Again, I dont blame the employees, they seem nice. But whomever runs this place is an evil jerk. read more

The worst bait and switch business model I have ever seen. I had a reservation for a 10x20 down the street which actually was two 10x10 units that didnt work for me since I had large items that wouldn't fit....nor did I want to buy an extra lock or try to organize a two different spaces. Since their facility down the street had a 10x20 unit I had to ask them to honor the price and reservation They said no and wanted double the price that I had made the reservation for. They also tried to sell me a 10x15 for more money. The carts dont work. They have no lighting. They suck. read more

First day onsite and after loading our space with the first load my smart aleck son and his friend were lacking in common sense by getting into the lift and accidentally locking themselves in there when they shouldn't have been there in to begin with. Fortunately for us the onsite manager Tanya helped get them out by getting the lift working. She exercised absolute tolerance, patience and professionalism and obvious competence in succeeding in saving us from this precarious incident which could have cost us a visit from the fire Dept and which would have been very expensive for me. Thanks Tanya and thank you to extra space storage for having her with you. In her 8 years she hadn't been faced with such a challenge. If not for her swift action today's move in would have cost me an additional 5000 which would haven sucked but instead we left earlier than expected given the situation and relieved. This place was an excellent choice for us when we moved from Oakland to Milwaukee. From the initial contact with the staff to contacting them inquiring about questions, every interaction has been super. We found it to be reasonable price for the area and very convenient since we lived in Jack London Square/lake merritt area. Easy and secure-in and out, clean and well maintained facility. I did not notice too many people going in and out of this place as I did with other facilities. I bought several supplies (boxes, tape, lock) from the shop inside the office and the prices are great too. When I recently went back to retrieve my things the Manager Tanya and employee Noah were extremely nice and accommodating. I made an exclusive trip from midwest to Oakland to coordinate a moving company picking up our items. Tanya was so friendly and helpful above and beyond my expectations. She came and cut the lock off my unit when I forgot the key. I saw her several times over two days and every time she was smiling and helpful. My moving truck ended up showing up much later than they said and again Tanya helped us. I would highly recommend this facility and staff to help ease your moving stress and storing your goods. read more
