During the last few months of her life, my mother, who had dementia, needed constant care. I called Safe at Home, and Luisa met with my mother the next day, and scheduled care workers for the following day. Every Safe at Home worker that sat with my mother was caring and professional. Sometimes our schedule would change unexpectedly, and Safe at Home was very accommodating about adding or subtracting shifts, or working oddly-timed shifts. I have nothing but positive comments to say about their professionalism and service. It was a "crisis" time for us, and it's great to know that there are such wonderful people at this company, able to step in and provide the ongoing assistance for our loved one that we ourselves could not provide. The best experience! We, our father's children, all live far away. So finding reliable and caring in home support that we did not have to worry about was crucial. Safe at Home (SAH) was providing in-home support for our father a few days a week as our father's companion was needing support with his bathing, getting to doctor appointments, light cleaning, etc. A different company selected and paid for by the VA was covering the other days. SAH, BY FAR, outshined the other company in all areas! SAH management, Vanessa and Luisa, are kind, caring, responsive, available and very communicative. The caregivers are kind, loving, VERY PATIENT (my father can be challenging), and competent. They are on time and have stayed late when needed. Our father enjoyed the caregivers; they connected with him and felt very comfortable with them. The caregivers would interact with our father and spend quality time with him. When our father's companion unexpectedly passed away, SAH was there to help! They immediately provided 24/7 coverage for our father until we were able to move him close to us. I live in New York State and am the only family member able to care for my 87 year old aunt who lives in Santa Cruz, Ca. Without Safe At Home I would be in an impossible situation. With Safe At Home my aunt can truly stay safe at home in her final years. In December 2021 my aunt met her first SAH caregiver, Diane Snider. Diane came in with a burst of talkative, attentive friendliness and took the anxiety out of receiving paid in-home care. Since then Diane has taken my aunt on many many grocery shopping trips, gone to the Post Office, the drug store and the paper-and-envelope store many times, always with good cheer. As it has gotten harder for my aunt, Diane has done the errands and returned with the goods on days when my aunt cannot go along. She has played many games of Scrabble and done countless sinks of dishes, all with a smile and loving compliments. We have had Safe at Home handle our Mom's in home care for over two years, and have been completely satisfied with their service! Luisa, the coordinator has always made sure we were never without a fill-in caregiver, if the usual caregiver is not able to come in. All of the staff have been diligent, caring, and knowledgeable. They have been well trained, leave notes every day regarding Mom's state of mind and activities of the day, plus what housework they have done. When Mom needed overnight care, Luisa was able to staff those hours with competent, kind staff right away. All of the staff has been willing to go above and beyond whenever needed. We had just started with daytime care for my husband, when he took a turn for the worse and it was exactly when I needed to go out of town for work. Safe at Home was recommended to us AND came thru with the overnight care we also needed all within 24 hours of first notification! Now, we do not recommend this but just giving a shout out to Louisa and her team for being so quick to support AND SUPER CARING!! Our cats are quite skittish and started out feral but within only a night or two my one cat was sitting on Luisa's lap!! He could feel how caring she was/is!! This team of caring individuals is also trustworthy! I had to have care for my spouse and I was already gone. We have no regrets. We HIGHLY recommend this team of caring people!! Our experience with Safe at Home was entirely different than the others posted here so far. We found them to be less than professional and outright dishonest about certain things relating to the care of our elderly father. As a 91 year old man living on his own, we were looking for and were told that they would be able to provide that level of service , not only basic care needs but companionship and conversations also part of it. Most of the people they sent out were very young and had difficulty relating or finding any common interests. The fact that they went through multiple caregivers only complicated the situation. We used their service for around six months, during which time we were called less than 15 minutes before caregiver was to arrive to be notified that they would not be coming. Car trouble, illness, just not going to come were all reasons given. I found this far from professional. Then they resorted to telling us things they said the caregivers said about our father that were entirely untrue. We finally had to terminate the relationship after they pulled off the one girl that seemed to be the best fit of all. We ended up using Touched by Angels, and it was a complete 180 degree difference. Do your loved one a favor and check into other alternatives. read more

When our mother was put on Hospice, we hired Safe At Home Senior Care to provide in-home care for the times when we couldn't be there. We are so happy we chose this company since it is run so well. When our mother's condition frequently changed due to her rapid decline, a change to the schedule and caregiver duties had to be made as well. Everyone was patient, kind, and did their best to accommodate our needs at a moment's notice. The caregivers that were assigned to us were very professional and skilled. Safe At Home did their best to assign as few caregivers as possible to keep the consistency for our mom. However, when a new caregiver had to be assigned, Safe at Home overlapped the caregiver schedules so that the previous caregiver could train the new caregiver, making the transition as seamless as possible. We were very impressed with the professionalism and ease of communication between Safe at Home, us, the caregivers and the hospice personnel. Safe at Home has provided part- and full-time care for my mother for almost 7 years. (It has varied with her needs.) The caregivers have never been less than good and most have been excellent. The office staff and caregivers are flexible, communicative, easy to work with, and listen and respond to the needs of my mother and me. In the few instances there have been problems, such as a caregiver sick at the last moment, the staff has kept me informed and quickly resolved the problem. Safe at Home has also been open and helpful in working through a handful of personality conflicts -- not an uncommon thing with a parent who is losing their independence. My only reason for giving a rating lower than 5 stars is that we had a rough beginning with Safe at Home. The first caregiver we were sent was inexperienced, and made a couple of big mistakes. All this happened while Ryan Colligan, the Director, was out of the country. Upon his return, he was appalled and very apologetic (as were the other staff members we talked with): "This is not the kind of service we provide." Safe at Home takes its Diamond Certification very seriously; and Ryan has gone above and beyond what could be expected to correct the initial mistakes. I have been a Safe At Home customer for the last 10 months. I'm sorry but I cannot agree with all of the 5 star reviews out there. I have MS and am confined to a wheelchair. My wife was my care provider and when she needed back surgery it was clear that we needed help. I give Safe at Home high marks for providing the help that we needed with very short notice. We were happy enough with the service provided that we have continued using Safe At Home but they are not quite as wonderful as their Diamond Star certification and all of the 5 star Yelp reviews out there might lead you to believe. We have had 14 different providers in 10 months. Some have been excellent but others were not very good. They try to meet their customer's needs but at times they sent us caregivers who clearly had no experience or training. They have sent untrained people to us and expected us to provide the training so their website claims about how much training they provide caregivers is clearly not true. Also they don't appear to plan ahead to have trained backups available to cover for caregiver emergencies, caregiver vacations, or caregiver illnesses. The most egregious they have done to us is they have tried to convince caregivers who called in ill to cover their shift anyway because they had no other caregiver available. The last thing anyone who needs a caregiver needs is an ill caregiver who transmits that illness to them. They have been trying to correct these problems but they are not there yet. Safe at Home is less expensive than many other providers but until they find ways to retain their employees (which will probably increase their costs) in my opinion they will not be able to meet their goals. I am frustrated enough by constant caregiver changes that I am considering giving a different agency a try. read more
