Had to come in the branch today to get a new bank card, the staff were very nice and helpful and friendly and bank was very clean also. It only took about 5 minutes or so for me to get my new bank card. I do normally have a problem with there atm machines on the outside there normally really slow and a lot of the time they don't work that's the only downside but other than that the staff are always so nice and helpful and and the bank is always clean and the service is always great. read more

I have been going here since I was 6 years old when my parents signed me upfor my first bank account, I'm in my 40s now. I think I'm ready to change banks, opening at 10:00 a.m. which is essentially the middle of the morning is unacceptable. I got it during covid.. Sort of... but having to wait till almost the middle of the morning, almost afternoon just to go deal with banking issues is stupid. Ya , um no --- there's been a problem in this location for a very long time namely they don't have enough workers or checkers cashiers whatever you call them tellers, there could be 10 or 12, 20 customers in the line ... but only three or four tellers work in the windows instead of filling up all the teller windows. Don't get me wrong. SAFE Credit Union has been great to me over the years when I've had their account. However COVID 19 has restricted the banking I can do since I no longer live in an area where there is a SAFE branch. All shared branching has been shut down and I'm left to use an ATM outside which sometimes I am not comfortable with. At least with the new bank I've joined they are accepting in person teller transactions at their location and I'm no longer subjected to these inconveniences. FYI - I tried to get approved for their Platinum Visa and was turned down multiple times. It seems you have to have a super duper credit score to get their credit card. I've since applied elsewhere and got better promo interest rates than what Safe are currently offering on their product. read more

Drove through the drive through ATM and I attempted to deposit money into my account and the ATM spit my money back out and said it was needing to be reinserted and when I re counted my money personally I was short $100. There is no 24 hour support number to call and the bank is closed until Monday, unfortunately. read more

Waited 15 minutes for the dummy in front of me in the drive up ATM as I am disabled, only for the ATM to tell me it wont take one of my items in my deposit, so I figure its the $5 dollar bill. I have to go back and enter my pin ( which is very visible to anyone and everyone ) and again try to deposit money and it spits it back out again. Last time it ate my money and said my deposit was wrong. Had to wait 3-5 days for them to find my money and correct the error. Also why does it have to check my preferences? Obviously it doesn't save anything as I speak English, always have always will. This location is a joke and should be closed! read more

DON'T LEAVE YOUR MONEY WITH PEOPLE YOU CAN'T TRUST! After researching far and wide we made the switch from First Tech to Safe CU. We were happy to get away from the suddenly undependable service First Tech Fed. had begun to provide.....WOW, sad to say, we had it GOOD there. Not only did they begin by holding even payroll checks for an exorbitant amount of time, but their app only allowed for mobile deposits of $250. for the first 6 months! I mean come on...who goes to a bank anymore, and a hold on a Payroll check, are you kidding me! Why the NASA grade security check to even be allowed to become a member with these kinds of restrictions... Obviously we cleared, or we wouldn't have an account. A good amount of time passes... & everything is pretty uneventful until I call to add my father to an already active account. While we are on the phone I specifically ask the call center rep if my credit will be run again because the account is already mine and were just adding him. They answer NO, I ask if there is a monthly fee, again NO, so we move forward. 2 hours later a I get an alert from Credit Karma that SAFE CU has run my credit! So, I call and have to all but threaten to sue them to have the inquiry removed. So not cool, if you mess up, own it and fix it. My Dad decides from seeing this experience that he doesn't trust them, I don't blame him at this point I'm really not either. So he (smartly) removes himself from the account, but I kept it opened for a rainy day fund...(there is only the $5 initial deposit in there)... around comes the first of the month and I'm hit with an account fee that overdrafts the account! Again, I call and fight with them to make it right....something that I shouldn't have had to do. Fast forward to now, I call yesterday to ask about adding my mom to the still open second account,(really at this point I don't know why I even called because no one there knows the actual policy, they just tell you whatever & do it w/100% absolute certainty)....I go into the branch this morning (North Sunrise in Roseville) to get the paperwork I need and am told the complete opposite of what the call center told me not even 12 hours earlier. (Not to mention the assistant manager that I was dealing with rude and condescending to say the least) So, I ask her to look up my call, at this point I'm pissed I want to know something is going to be done about this ignorant act they always pull...she says "absolutely, I'll send an email over and have that call pulled, we will find out why she told you what she did and address the issue. I will call you back today". Based on their previous track record I don't really trust her, so walking out the door, I call to have the call pulled myself, shouldn't be a problem if she was just going to do it right? And while you're holding they are constantly saying...."our calls are monitored & recorded for quality & training purposes" maybe I'm wrong but that sounds like this very issue....So, I talk to a manager & to surprise they can't access MY CALL, they require a exact time well, it was 11:07 & held, so NOPE, not that way...I called from work, so since there are multiple lines that dial out there is zero way to get the call, I ask if she can check for notes on my account. (We've all done customer service, whats the golden rule...DOCUMENT!) Again....so sorry about your luck. Once again they have proven that customer service is not a priority once they have your money. Needless to say, I'm back to bank shopping it's a pain but I'd rather do that than continue to allow them to profit from my money when they obviously have Zero respect for their members & can't be trusted. read more

My employer banks with safe and I find myself in a branch from time to time. I usually experience great service despite not having an account and have been considering applying for a loan with SAFE or Golden 1. I've never been to this branch before, I came in yesterday because I needed change for a $100 bill. I told the greeter that I did not have an account but wanted change for 100 and she told me that there shouldn't be a problem. After waiting in line, the teller tells me that she cannot exchange my 100 because they need recourse for every cash transaction that they do. I assure her that my whopping $100 is real. She speaks to the branch manager who refuses the transaction. I tell the manager that I understand the policy however I was told there wouldn't be a problem and thus I waited in line, she said that I was misinformed, and that there was nothing she could do. She then said "if you would like to speak to the assistant manager maybe she could do something for you" This is the BRANCH MANAGER telling me this. It's not that there is a problem with SAFE credit union, Its the dehumanizing aspect that many financial institutions seem to have. They keep implying that they see every individual as a person not just account. I understand the policy which is why I asked the greeter. But it was the manager in this situation that could have done better, she wasn't apologetic, just shrugged it and was very matter a fact about the whole thing. When I apply for a loan it wont be at this branch and if you're looking for a home branch with a staff that just might lean towards your best interest I would recommend looking for a different Safe or somewhere else entirely. read more

This review is for Bill Skidmore a banker at Safe Credit Union. Bill has been working for Safe since 2010. I came to Bill because he was the one that opened my checking account at this branch and he made it painless. So, when I decided to keep my leased Acura, I didn't hesitate and immediately called Bill to see what he could do for me. Bill went above and beyond - my banking super hero. I was hesitant to let him run my credit because I didn't want it to affect my credit score. Instead of pressuring me to do so, and treating me like an annoying customer, he simply asked me if I knew what my credit score was. I did and he was able to give me rough numbers to let me know what I would be getting into. Fantastic because that was what I wanted to know before I was willing to run my credit and commit to the process. And the rest was history. Bill called me back with even better rates than we thought I would get. Hell yeah!! (victory dance) I walked into the branch, he had all the paperwork ready to go. It was so easy. I really couldn't believe it. My fiance is due for a new car sooner than later. When we decide to take that step and finance a car I'm definitely coming to Bill at Safe Credit Union. Four stars, "I'm a fan" because I bank primarily with SAFE and have since 1982. This is not my "usual" branch, though I do stop in from time to time as it is easily accessible off of Sunrise Blvd. In addition to walking into the branch, there is a walk up ATM and a drive thru ATM. I expect and do receive friendly, courteous, prompt service from this branch as well as every other branch of SAFE. As a SAFE member, there have been times when I was told that a loan couldn't be funded but I realized that my money is "safe" at SAFE and they don't take any chances on financing unless the borrower meets specific, safe, criteria. SAFE has kept up with all the latest technology and the online access is very secure, YET, you can still talk to a "live" person if you choose to. read more

Had to go in today to receive a new card after mine showed unauthorized charges to it. Austin French at the front desk was very helpful. He had a new card in my hands in minutes and he even helped me kindly and thoroughly file a dispute with the charges I hadn't made. He was kind but efficient and is a great example of what good customer service looks like. I forgot my phone and when I went back in, he greeted me with a smile as he did when I first walked in. Overall, probably one of the easier times I've had to deal with someone unknown using my card and his customer service made it a pleasant experience. read more

Very bad experience opening an account. With all the legitimate documents for a bank to open an account, the banker seems suspicious on every piece of information I have provided and asked question beyond normal. The worst is that after almost 2 hours I was rejected. The reason the banker gave is that the website I provided is not covering all the business practices I have provided for my account. I interpret this as you are lying. It is very insulting and would recommend anyone to avoid SAFECU for their banking needs. read more

I cannot believe that a banking institution can be so ignorant about how a Trust Account should be handled! I recently became a Trustee for a Family Trust. The only issue I have had throughout this process is with Safe Credit Union. Unfortunately, they held most of the accounts of the person who passed. There are departments within departments within departments who apparently do not speak to each other And, even with specific documentation from a Trust Attorney they refused to speak to me, until of course I had to pay attorney's fees for our Trust Attorney to get involved. This not only cost valuable time, but a whole lot of money for items they SHOULD have knowledge of on how to process a trust transfer. Why do people use this outfit when there are so many trained qualified people available within our banking institutions? If you think the combined investment, banking, savings and IRA's are convenient in one location, wait till you have to deal with each individual account in some unknown department. Good luck folks, glad I don't have to deal with them any further! Give me my Chase Bank 100 times over! read more

Not a review about the store but safe in general. Called customer service and had the WORST experience ever. A company got ahold of my bank information from my phone and over drafted my account with 5 different charges and Safe charged me a $30 fee for each charge and wouldnt refund it even though I had the other company return my funds within 24 hours. Between the condisending tone of the customer service rep like I am not worth her time and the amount of money I was charged I will be cancelling everything I have with safe and moving banks. I will NEVER bank with safe again. Horrible horrible experience and it isnt the first just the breaking point. read more

Better than the big banks. The fact that you have free atm withdrawals, even in those who are not owned by SAFE, plus free online banking, and billpay. They also have free coinstar for members. Their online banking is the best, you have quicken so you can make your taxes. Unlike the other big banks that always ding you with "surprise" charges and fees if you aren't a premium customer. Also, unlike big banks, the transactions post immediately, so you always know your balance, as for direct deposits, I get paid one day before my coworkers who are with the big banks. Best decision I've made is to switch from the big banks to a credit union. read more

I just came from the Branch location of Sunrise Blvd and Old Auburn in Citrus Heights. I had a rebate check for $100 in my Father's name but my address. We have the same last name and the addresses match documentation. He endorsed the check. This branch refused to cash the check without a document for signature verification. So I returned with a copy of military ID and other documents verifying identity. The teller went to the branch manager who again did not want to cash the check now stating because it was a third party check. BTW....the check is from the State of CA. Eventually she agreed and the teller returned claiming I was getting a favor. The teller was very short and I don't mean in height. I have been a member since 1984. My father was one of the original military members and is a service disabled veteran - hence why he could not easy cash the check himself. The branch manager needs to figure out her policy - signature verification verses 3rd party check. No way to treat a 30+ year member. Still want to know what the policy is. Tried to submit this with the online system but it wasn't working so this was the next best place to vent. Never returning to this location again and I am sure they are glad I'm not. read more

Don't ever try to close your account here. I did and the teller correctly gave me the entire balance of my checking account, but left 7 cents in my savings account. Now I have to go into the branch again to argue that I should not have to pay $12.00 in checking account service fees because of the 7 cents left in my savings account. Seriously, I have a statement that shows a negative balance of $11.93 ($12.00 in fees minus the 7 cents). read more

I love this place. They were the perfect getway from Wells Fargo where we had a nightmare experience. Every time I have to go in to speak with someone they are warm and kind. They were nice when we first signed up and I was afraid of it changing once we were in, but it never fails, there's always a smiling face and warm welcome every time! They don't charge overdraft fees, only nsf fees for checks. I've never had problems disputing an unauthorized charged (unlike Wells Fargo). They have a great financial advise set up with higher interest investment options. Their right down the street from our home, and you can still use any credit union and most 7-11's in the area without getting charged. I really wish I would have known about them years ago. My fiance and I have been with them for over 2 years now and it's been great. A few minor hicups getting use to a new bank, but overall the best "banking" experience so far. Anyone that's had a bad experience at a large bank, I really suggest giving Safe a try! read more

Let me start by saying that I have had an account with safe for over 10 years, between my wife and I we have 4 accounts and a credit card with them. Recently an account of mine, a business account, which I have also had for over 2 years was hit with 4 NSF fees of $28 a piece. I hadn't been paying attention to the account because I had just started a new job and some charges for my previous business tried to go through, and I though there was still money in the account. I realize that I should have been paying more attention and that's my fault but their unwillingness to help me out as a customer was absolutely appalling. I sat on a live chat for an hour, it took 10 minutes before I was ever even able to speak to someone. I couldn't believe that after having the business account for 2 years, having 4 other accounts with them and never having had overdrafted this account before they were willing to completely lose my business over $56. Fifty Six Dollars! When I opened the account the person that I spoke with told me that they had "overdraft protection" and that once a year if a situation like this arose they would reverse the fees "no problem". That didn't happen. I was lied to, stolen from (that's really what NSF fees are when a bank assesses them because they don't pay for anything, they just hit your account with a fee) and was shown that they couldn't care less about the people that have been loyal to them for over a decade. I really think it's pathetic. Ten years and 4 accounts don't equate to me being worth $56 dollars. Find a different bank if you can. read more

Sometimes you just don't know how great your particular Safe Credit Union location is until you think you'll stop at one that is closer at the moment i.e. the one at 5440 Dudley Blvd McClellan Park, CA and after waiting and waiting and then waiting some more, with only one customer there besides me - the whole time, - I finally just walked out and drove all the ways over to the (my) great Safe Credit Union location where they can handle 10+ customers you know. There were three employees at the SCU at the base that I could see and one customer besides myself and they couldn't handle that. Two customers was just too much for them I guess. The customer that was there when I arrived was still there standing at the window with the same teller when I left. Don't waste your time just go to the one at 7601 Sunrise Blvd., Citrus Heights, CA (916) 979-7233 - it is the absolute best. Wonderful, efficient, knowledgeable and friendly professional people - they know who the customer is and they like helping us. Imagine that?
