When I first moved from the Bay Area I was looking for a new bank. I'm a a cashier so my job was collecting payments, usually with a card. I noticed most were Safe CU so started about their service. Everyone that used them gave rave reviews. I started asking non Safe CU customers and they were very blasé, just a business they used. Needless to say I chose Safe and I'm so happy I did! I am a new member and am rethinking my decision to join. My debit card will not work, money is there I went on line. So I call, I cant get past the auto attendant without a member ID number. I have been on hold now for 16 min. for a call center employee deciding if I want to post this. At 17 min mark my call was answered, Ive now been on hold another 7 min. I hung up and driving in. If you're considering any type of loan with Safe, I'd recommend reconsidering that decision. Especially taking the other 1-star reviews into consideration. I recently attempted to pay off my auto loan early and encountered significant issues that reveal a concerning practice. When I tried to pay the listed "payoff amount" online, I was unable to do so and was instructed to call. Upon calling, I was told that I needed to visit a branch in person because the payoff amount displayed online was "incorrect." Despite my loan contract stating that there are no penalties for early payoff, I was informed that additional interest was going to be applied after I paid off the car. This practice effectively discourages customers from paying off their loans early, allowing Safe Credit Union to continue collecting interest. It appears designed to trap borrowers into paying more than necessary. In contrast, my previous experiences with GM Financial and Carmax Financial were hassle-free, allowing me to pay the full amount online without the need for branch visits or phone calls. For a smoother process, I recommend considering other lenders. ETA: Check out their page on Better Business Bureau (BBB) where you can see customer reviews and issues that have occurred. The WORST bank ever! They botched my car loan that was approved on-line through Safe and once I got my car from CarMax (which is an APPROVED car dealership), the front desk lady said they didn't take CarMax. I showed her where it said they did and she said it was wrong. 3 years later they wanted to refinance my car and I said you don't take CarMax and the branch manager said they did and alway have. They also froze my bank account one weekend and I could not get to the location for our foster children's pickup as we just use ATM. They are rude, lie, and will keep you from accessing your OWN money. Run from this place. Get your money out now and goto another true credit Union. read more

I was a loyal SAFE member for about three decades. No more. SAFE decided to upgrade their system and gave notices starting in late Feb that the transition would happen in mid-April, and they promised there would be an interruption of *some* services from Friday Apr 8 t 3 until Tuesday morning Apr 12. The reality is that they shut off ALL services from Friday morning Apr 8, and I STILL do not have online access to my business accounts, including statements and most importantly, bill pay. They have lost ALL my vendor/payee info that I accumulated over decades. I take care of my mother's finances, and I have no ability to pay her bills as I paid everything through Bill Pay and I don't even have paper checks. After HOURS on the phone and in the branch, NO ONE has ANY idea when bill pay will be fully restored, when online access to statements will be restored, or when any of the other myriad problems will be addressed. Had they told me that services would be down for months, I would have made other arrangements. I am looking for another financial institution. DON'T USE SAFE!! read more

All the employees are nice enough but use policy to not take accountability for their actions. They had their manager clear a check for deposit, then it reversed 4 days later, and I was negative and they charged me a fee. You'd think with the 3 employees who hand that check in their hands for approval they could at least admit they shouldn't have given me a fee. read more

I went over my spending limit so Safe froze my account..I have NEVER had anyone ever freeze my account. I waited on the phone for an hour before anyone at Safe picked up the phone only to tell me that they will not unfreeze my account. I had no groceries and I needed gas but all Safe could say was to bad you went over your limit. I have switched back to my old credit union which takes call backs if the phone wait time is more that 5 minutes. read more

Located across the street from Best Western , this bank is easy access if you're a Credit Union Member and you are either a member of Safe or a Credit Union participating in the CU Centers shared banking program. They previously were across the parking lot on the same side of the street from the hotel but built a new one. They did nice. My first time in there. I came in to do a transaction and walked out in less than 5 minutes. Very nicely built and very modern too. Credit Union is also a little bit of a walk if you don't feel like walking direct across the street to the bank (this street can be dangerous) and prefer to get there using the cross walk, otherwise drive straight across watching out for traffic. read more

It is IMPOSSIBLE to check my accounts on line no matter what time I call. I am always instructed to change my password over and over and over again. This goes on for a good 30 minutes OR LONGER, then I hang up in anger. I cannot talk to an actual person, then they don't respond to fix my problem - always promises to fix it. I don't want to change credit unions but there is NO SERVICE on the phone, the computers don't work so that I can access my accounts. I am so angry. Doesn't anyone pay attention to what the customers complain about? Why do I have to go through this totally mis-managed banking "service" EVERYTIME I try to check my accounts????? Someone needs to be fired, maybe all of them as this has been going on for YEARS. Dam_. FAR LESS THAN NO STARS. I will spread no good words to say about your bank. We finally made the decision to leave our old bank that I was with since I was 5 about a year ago, it was such a pain, changing EVERYTHING from First Tech Credit Union over to Safe... and at first I was really really freaked that I made the wrong choice and we'd have to go back to First Tech even though their service took such a huge nose dive. Well, after the initial set up of all the ebills and auto-drafts this is the best bank ever! Our paychecks are available a day early They are open until 6pm You can have ATM cards printed in the branch The customer service (in the branch or on the phone) is great and if they need to follow up on a call they actually do!! SAFE needs to get with the times. Having to make an appointment to wire money is a joke. There are at least 10 employees on duty, most of whom are sitting in offices alone or talking to co-workers. So we go along with the charade of making me wait for 20 minutes until "the next available appointment." And we are Capital Club members. I think I'll take my money and go back to El Dorado Savings Bank where my business is appreciated and I can wire money on MY schedule, simply by walking up to a teller. read more

After a really awful experience with their management earlier today, I went by to pick up my new CC - and their staff was standing around, talking about their coworker who left out secure customer information. As someone who does business with this bank, I don't feel secure here. Also, they need to get rid of Alisha. Not sure if she works for this branch, but I asked repeatedly for a manager and asked that she discontinue talking to me - and she took it upon herself to call my personal cell phone to further instigate a problem. After the experience I had, I had to share! When they called me about my late truck payment, I went into defensive mode like it was Wells Fargo calling me. I explained that I am still feeling the financial effects of COVID-19, with much more attitude than displayed here, and was completely taken back at the response. Genuine human interaction and response by the representative that showed understanding and care. This was the complete opposite experience you would ever expect to have with the bank calling you about a late payment! I came into the branch to deposit my pay check. I set up direct deposit the day I opened my account but my job doesn't send our checks via Direct deposit until the 2nd pay period. I called Safe Credit Union customer service and they stated that I could o into any branch with my pay stub and check so that I can receive the full amount. I came to this location and was told that they do not give the full amount for paychecks is your account is new. You have to wait for 9 business days.... due to this specific location having issues with people opening accounts and closing them. This was very frustrating seeing as though I was not provided this info when I called. But thankfully the young woman that was helping me "I forgot her name" went above and beyond and called the rocklin location for me. Thankfully the Rocklin location can help me. I am not interested in discussing anything. Once everything is transferred the accounts will be closed. As a matter of fact, when I called to close one account. I told the associate the account that I wanted closed that was connected to the debit card it was associated with. She closed that account and then closed my primary card (associated with my main account that I have direct deposit to) and kept the card opened from the account I closed. They then linked the card to the primary account which in return caused issues with accounts linked to that account. When I called about this problem I asked to reopen the card they had closed and they were unable to tell how they messed up. Yes, I know what card is what. They treated me as if I was not aware of which card was what although I have had everything set up a certain way and EVEN have DIFFERENT pictures on my debit card for each account. Thank you but no thank you for attempting to fix this. Training is needed for ALL associates, the most important ones that need training are the managers. They are responsible to make sure the associates know how to look things up and be accurate. read more

I was a long time member of this credit union till they took my money and cancelled my account for "having a low balance" still taking my money in my mind. So I went to another institution, this one however is not in the state and I have to use shared branching through a handful of credit unions including safe. The hassle factor at this bank is through the roof, I refuse to give my social to bank any longer. For now, the golden one down the street seems like a better option as they will give me rolls of quarters for a $20 with no information needed from me. I was skeptical when they said that they needed to pull a credit report for me to open a checking account (Yes, for a CHECKING ACCOUNT. And it's not a SOFT Credit Inquiry, but a HARD Credit Inquiry as if you were applying for a credit card, and thus hurts your credit score), but to have that hurt your credit score by over 30 pts and then deny you a loan for having a low credit score is just brutal.
