Dr. Peterson is the BEST of the BEST. She is kind and knowledgeable and is able to figure out things that primary care vets miss. She is also very affordable. An ultrasound at Safe Haven costs about half what my primary care vet charges and probably 1/4 what PVSEC or Medvet charge. We've followed Dr. Peterson for years and are SO glad that she has her own practice now. We've been to Safe Haven's Urgent Care too and they were great. Even when a critical case came in the ER doctor stayed calm and collected and never made us feel like an afterthought.

VCA Wexford Animal Hospital - Waiting area for cats

    VCA Wexford Animal Hospital

I took my cat Nika to VCA Wexford Animal Hospital two times. I made an appointment for a…read morenew-patient exam, and then I made an appointment with a vet tech for blood tests. I would prefer that this animal hospital have more evening and weekend hours, but we did get evening or Friday appointments that worked for us. For both appointments, the front staff quickly checked us in, and we used the separate waiting area for cats. The vet techs started our appointments on time. I appreciated that they had familiarized themselves with my cat's previous medical records. For the first appointment, the veterinarian arrived several minutes late, but she was very knowledgeable and nice (even after my cat when being palpated peed on the table!). She did a physical exam on Nika, and we discussed Nika's history of kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, anemia, and UTIs. The vet said that many kidney-disease cats need longer than 2 weeks of antibiotics, which is true and something that my previous veterinarians never said. She recommended a supplement to prevent UTIs. Later, another veterinarian here promptly ordered a refill for a thyroid medication for Nika. Employees at the front desk promptly rang up the fees for the exam, supplement, blood tests, and fecal test. I thought that the prices were OK. A few days later, Dr. Santabene called me about the test results. We spoke for about 16 minutes, and she communicated very thoroughly and politely. Nika's kidney labs were much worse than before, so we increased her lactated ringers (LR) and added a phosphate binder that was ready for pickup hours later. For my upcoming international vacation, Dr. Santabene was still willing to keep Nika at VCA Wexford's pet hotel where the vet techs would administer 100 mLs of lactated ringers on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and 150 mLs on Mondays and Fridays (because vet techs do not work on weekends). The employees at the pet hotel took a while to tell me accurate prices, but the final estimate was $1,324.30 - $1,374.30 (which included $344 for 10 fluid therapies, $86 for 10 biohazard waste disposals, $244 for 10 technician office visits, and $650-700 for 13-14 nights in a nice-looking feline boarding condo). However, days later Nika began to show serious symptoms, so I had her euthanized by a different veterinarian. Weeks later Dr. Santabene mailed a handwritten sympathy card to me. For my next pet who has a medical diagnosis, I will probably bring her/him here, because I think that Dr. Santabene has knowledge and empathy that many other vets lack.

They are empathetic when necessary starting with the front desk when you walk in. Dr. Dymun and her tech Jessica are both very good listeners. They ask owners lots of questions to help with a diagnosis. My dog gets a more thorough exam than I do at my doctor-(I'm not complaining as I really hate going to the doctor). Dr. Dymun emailed me several times to check on my pet's progress and offered suggestions to aid her recovery. It was easy to schedule an appointment and I can't complain about fees as I feel my pet received extraordinary care.

Windrose Animal Hospital - Junior's happy place

I've always had positive experiences at Windrose, but I wanted to update my review based on my very…read morerecent experiences. If you don't read this entire review, just know that they truly saved my two dogs. They are the most compassionate staff, communicate above and beyond, and really care about our pets. In January 2023, my 9 month old puppy was very sick and so we took him in for a visit. Unfortunately, he needed to have emergency blockage surgery that evening. While the surgery didn't take place at Windrose, they were so calm and caring when telling us that is what the next step was going to be, answering all of the questions we had. They found an ER that was able to do the surgery that evening and sent us there. We didn't need to follow up with Windrose because the follow ups were scheduled with the surgeon but Windrose was texting and calling us frequently to check on him, answered further questions - literally anything we needed, Windrose provided. While my puppy was in the ER for his surgery, he picked up pneumonia (he didn't have symptoms) and brought it home to my older dog. She became severely sick within one day. We had to rush her to the ER because she couldn't breathe, lips/gums were turning blue, etc. Anyways, that's when we found out she had pneumonia. The ER gave us antibiotics and other medications and then we scheduled a follow up at Windrose. Fast forward a two months (now in March) and our girl was still not responding to any medications the way that she should have been. At that point, we were at risk of her becoming immune to the antibiotics. This was the hard part, the doctor informed us that we needed to either have a scope done with a specialist to figure out exactly what was in the fluid in her lungs or slowly take her off of the meds to treat her conservatively. Well, we had to make the awful decision to not move forward with the scope due to $$ (right after our puppy's surgery too). Dr. D'Amato was so unbelievably kind and understanding with our decision. From there, we tried so many different medication combinations. Again, Windrose was always in communication with us - checking in every couple of days. I always felt supported and never alone. We weren't sure what would happen next; not to be morbid but we didn't think she was going to make it much longer. I'm happy to say that after 6 full months of our girl having pneumonia, she is ALMOST better! She is still on medication but this is the least amount of meds she's been on & the best she's doing! I truly don't think she would still be with us if it wasn't for the patience and kindness of the entire Windrose staff. Thank you for saving our girl!!!

Based only on other reviews and a "gut feeling, I went with PetVet 364 Cranberry and am so happy I did. Everyone I interacted with there was amazing - from the person who answered the phone and made my appointment (Natalie I think), the Vet's assistant/tech (Ashley), to the vet herself - all of them were patient, caring, friendly, understanding, and genuinely listened intently to me as we discussed my cats needs. Also, they have this amazing special "cat room" that was probably even more cat friendly than my home LOL. So rather than going into a sterile exam room with a metal table, I was able to bring my cat into a warm comfortable room equipped with cat toys, cat condos, litter box and treats! That instantly put my cat (AND me) at ease which is critical - esp if you have anxious pets! All in all, I couldn't have asked for a better experience for me and my pets and we plan to stick with this wonderful vet clinic in the future. If I could give 6 star rating, I would

The receptionists are friendly and welcoming. The Drs and assistants are so warm and kind, it makes the scary experience of needing a vet right away so much more calming. I can tell they care about my dog and me and treated her like their own. The rooms are cozy with couches and a TV and help to destress my dog (and me). The Dr and assistant sat on the floor with me and my dog (so personal and caring) and listened to everything I said so attentively and patiently. They were knowledgeable and thorough. My beagle is 11 and I've had some bad experiences with cold, callous veterinarians in the past, but I'm so thankful I have somewhere I feel I can depend on when I need it. 10/10

Okay, let me begin by saying that I have a cat. I'm sure most people that reviewed have dogs, and I…read moreoften feel like places that board both cats and dogs focus like 80% of the attention on the dogs and the cats are just kind of there. I had thought this place was going to be different given that they actually list other services you can buy for the cat like most places offer for dogs (playtime, cuddle time, etc). Alas, it didn't turn out that way. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Drop off went pretty smooth. For it being my first time ever I felt the staff at check-in could've done a better job at explaining some of the additional services provided. I kind of had to prompt them to explain those things and what they meant. I had decided to get the nighttime exploration every other night to allow for my cat to stretch his legs outside of the cage more. After all the paperwork, I got to see where my cat would be staying and actually helped get him out of his carrier. Side note: he was completely freaked and refused to come out - a reaction I've never seen out of him before. But we got him out and I left for vacation. Cut to when it was time to pick him up. Nothing was really said about his stay. At other places I've boarded before the staff always tells me how the cat's stay was and how he did along with the report card they provide. Here they just provided me with a report card, and I just settled the bill then left. They gave me an almost full bag of food back (I'd brought food from home for my kitty), and usually when I'm gone a week and pick up my cat (at the other places I've been to over the years), I either get no food back or just a tiny bit. So the fact that there was nearly a full bag of food returned to me was alarming. I reviewed the report card on the way home (wasn't the one driving), and there was a little box checked that said "I didn't feel like eating". But all other boxes that were checked were that his behavior was wonderful and his bathroom habits were regular. I'm sorry, but how does that make sense given that he probably ate a cup or two of food all week? And on that form they'd made me fill out upon check-in, I had checked the option for them to entice him to eat if he wouldn't. Maybe they did try, but I feel more should've been done about that. Or they at least should've told me and explained that they'd tried their own wet food to get him to eat and he just wasn't interested in it. Even noting that on the report card would've been helpful. The other thing is, you remember how I mentioned I asked for nighttime exploration every other night? Yeah, I didn't get billed for that so I can only assume they didn't do it. Based on everything I doubt I will take him back. I will say the place smelled/looked clean so they do have that going for them. I think these places just cater much more to dogs, and even though they board cats, they don't do much with them. I had a boarding place I liked previously, but they stopped boarding cats which is what led me to this place. It's hard to even find a place in the North Hills that will board cats, and I was definitely less than impressed with Bradford Hills Pet Hotel.

She is now staying overnight at the emergency vet because this place does not care about animals. I have records that she was a healthy weight when I dropped her off and they returned her to me severely underweight and lethargic. I signed paperwork at drop off saying they would take action if there were any medical issues but they failed to live up to that. She clearly stopped eating at some point during their stay but they failed to notice something as basic as that. She looked visibly horrible when I brought her home. The people working here have to be either incredibly incompetent or just downright negligent. Now I'm just hoping my pet will survive all because they failed to pay any attention to them or take action.
