For the most part, I use YELP to help me decide where to and who to do business with and 8/10 times, things work out to my advantage. This was my experience today. I just moved into a refurbished apartment yesterday and was quite alarmed to discover that one of the locks on the door had been removed and left in its place a hole that would provide all my neighbors a free peep show (not cool). I was a day away from my going on vacation and I knew my super would not be able to install a lock on such short notice. After tediously searching YELP for local locksmiths, I came across Safehouse Locksmith. I loved the fact that they had a website and an actual emailing system as I was up at the crack of dawn and looking to get quotes ASAP. I submitted my info and within an hour or less, Mike (the owner i believe) got back to me with a quote. They had same day availability and by 3 pm (less than 12 hours after my first email), my new lock was installed. I am now on vacation knowing that my home is secure. I should also mention that I was running very late for my appointment and Mike definitely did NOT make me feel bad about it. The locksmith that came was also very professional. As for price, I can't really comment as i have never had a lock installed before but in my mind, for such short notice, it seemed somewhat reasonable. They also accept credit cards but i think the fee may be less if you pay cash. I would highly recommend this business for anyone needing locksmith services. read more

so i found this place online and had to get a new cylinder was charged $85 seems a tad high but you know i went with it. the next day i notice something wrong with the slam lock and i though it had to do with the cylinder even though since i have little understanding about locks all the guy did was simple screw driver few turns and it was good to go i was charged alot for something that could be done by anyone. my advice is if you have a friend or can go somewhere else instead of calling these guys because they just greedy when i just had work the other day and for them to come back and do a simple adjustment of screws to make the slam lock work and to charge a lot for that seem an out rage read more

I have a small safe in my basement that I regularly access, at least monthly. When I went to open the safe this weekend, to my surprise, the keypad wasn't functioning. I found this strange since the safe has a "low battery" light that never went on. I tried to open the safe with what I thought was the backup key but was not successful. On Sunday, I was driving out to Long Island on Union Turnpike and noticed that this establishment was open. I went in and the gentleman who greeted me gave me the card of the locksmith who he said wasn't there at the time but who he encouraged me to call. He indicated that the locksmith was expected around 2pm. I called the locksmith, Michael, and explained my issue to him. I told him that the safe was small enough for me to transport to his store. He asked if I could bring it that afternoon but I told him I was on Long Island for the afternoon. He indicated that he would be at the store on Monday afternoon and we should contact each other by phone on Monday. I called Michael at noon on Monday and we agreed to meet at the store at 2pm. Getting the safe to the store was far more difficult that I had expected, but that was my doing, not Safehouse's. In fact, I'm sure Michael would have been happy to visit my home to look at the safe. I got the safe to Safehouse and met Michael at 2pm. In a few minutes, Michael was able to open the safe. The batteries had leaked preventing the keypad from being used. That explained why the keypad had failed so suddenly. Fortunately, the batteries leaked powder and I was able to clean up the powder and replace the batteries with fresh ones and the keypad worked again! Michael offered to do some research to see if he could arrange to get me a key that would work for the safe. When I brought the safe home, I did a thorough cleaning of the battery compartment and tried the key that I thought was the backup key and, to my surprise, it worked! I assume that the lock had been jammed and Michael was able to free it up. I called Michael and asked if I could have an additional key made? He suggested that I bring the key in to his dad who would be better able to make a back up key for the safe. Michael had asked me how I learned of his business and I told him that I saw it on Yelp. I also told him that reviews seemed honest. I was very happy with my experience with Safehouse and would gladly recommend them to anyone. Got locked out of my house and needed to get in. It was freezing cold outside, and on a Saturday evening, but Safehouse showed up in under 20 and was able to pop the lock in under a minute. Couldn't be more thankful for the quick service, especially given that it is a weekend. They were even courteous enough to ask if I have any children with me and if I am stuck outside or if I have somewhere warm to wait. Ours was not an emergency, but rather a disaster waiting to happen. It was a problem with the hinges of a door. What attracted us to Safe House Locksmith was their website section on doors: they list all the possible problems a door may have, as a doctor will list diseases. Once we called Michael was very courteous, and fast in his reply. He asked for pictures of the problem door. He figured the problem out, got the necessary parts. My new go-to locksmith for anything lock/key/hardware related! I came in Sunday looking for two new doorknobs with a lock and key. (Honestly thought this was just a key copying place). My dad and fiancé both suggested I check here locally before heading out to Home Depot. So glad I did! I needed the doorknobs asap, so I was going to settle for a design that he had and was very similar to my current doorknobs but he said he could get the exact doorknobs to match the rest in my house. Michael gave me his personal cell number and I sent him a picture of the doorknob, thinking it would be about 3 days minimum until he got the doorknobs. He texted me the next day and had them ready for me to pick up! Charged me only what he paid (he showed me the receipt) and I was on my way. Later I got home and thought I had the wrong side of the doorknob and texted him (pretty late at night) - Michael responded right away saying that there is only one side of the knob sold and it is reversible. He sent me a video tutorial from YouTube on how to reverse the knob (less than 2 min video, very explanatory and simple). I was just there to purchase fluorescent light bulbs (10) for my kitchen, as some old ones burned out. The bulbs were labeled as 'cool white'. Upon installing them, I found they were 'yellow', as opposed to white. I returned to the store, ensuring they were packaged properly and transported carefully. The shop owner refused to take them back saying that they are white and won't even allow me to exchange it for another item. He told me to talk to GE as he wants nothing to do with it. As the shop owner is an older gentleman, I expected professionalism and honorability from him, as I myself is an honest person. Boy was I wrong. I told him I chose to buy from a local merchant to support my neighborhood instead of going to the hardware giants, he told me to go there as he didn't need my business. He was belligerent over the bulbs from the get go. I stayed calm and tried to reassure him that the bulbs were fine and to state my case that the bulbs are yellow and not white and what they should be. I have NEVER been treated so RUDELY by any shop keeper in my life. He definitely does not care about his local patrons and home owners or keeping their business for that matter. (I've bought from his shop before). He just wants our money...he doesn't care about his customers or the quality of his products. BUYER BEWARE. I'm going to the hardware giants from now on. You should too. I've learned my lesson. read more
