He seemed like a really nice person, actually cared about me. He had run some tests just trying to diagnose my overheating issue with my car. I thought he was being really nice because he hadn't charged me anything, because he hadn't found the real cause yet. He even spent all this time trying to drive it around to recreate the issue (it stopped overheating when I brought it in of course). I would give a 5-star rating for that person individually. I don't remember his name, but he told me about how he has flown helicopters. Then there was the other guy who helped when I voluntarily brought it back. He charged me just over $100 for the previous work (even though I wasn't told about that and like I said, I had voluntarily returned so I wouldn't have been charged if I hadn't come back). I wouldn't have necessarily minded paying for the test that they ran, but I'm used to the treatment where they say "we plan to do this and it costs $x, do you want us to do that?". I am not used to the, we'll do something without asking for your approval, make it seem like we're not charging you, then suddenly spring a price on you when you decide to come back. Furthermore, his receipt was basically just a handwritten, vague note that I couldn't use at another shop because it didn't say specifically what test they ran. That seemed very unprofessional. So, I would give a 1-star rating to the person who helped me the second time and he, specifically, is the reason I left and went to Brake Time Bob instead, because I can trust him and he doesn't pull that crap on me. So, I'm not really sure how good of service they provide since I went elsewhere to fix my car (ended up being a blown head gasket). I don't know if it was like the first guy was bending the rules to be nice and the second guy was just following normal policy, but they need to be consistent about the way they treat you and charge you for services. If you go there, I would say, make them promise they won't do anything without telling you the price first.

My insurance company said they were trustworthy and reliable so I trusted that opinion. The process of getting my vehicle fixed the first time went well. After getting my vehicle returned to me. I was hearing some noises from the area of the collision. So I returned my car to Gerber and I had to have a rental car again for two or three days. I didn't hear a single update in those few days until day three. And the only thing they told me in that update was that my car was at big O' tire. So they didn't even have my car the whole time and NEVER updated me or told me my car wasn't even at their shop anymore. And in that one and ONLY call update, they told me my insurance company wouldn't cover the $100 fee. Again, seeing as how this was my only update I got, I didn't even know what fee they were talking about so I inquired about the problem. And that's when I learned my car wasn't at their shop, that it was at Big O tire and that they would charge me a diagnosis fee. So as you can imagine, I am frustrated at this point. I was never told my Vehicle got moved without my permission, and then it got diagnosed with a fee attached without my permission. If I knew any of this, I would've said no and taken my car back day one. so when I go to pick up my car from Big O tire, I tell them the situation and that respectfully I am not paying a diagnosis fee when I didn't even know my car was here. And the gentleman at the desk told me that that is not what Gerber told them. so not only did Gerber move my car without my permission and get it diagnosed and then would have me pay a diagnosis fee, they LIED to big O tire about the situation and tried to make me look incompetent or disrespectful. I wish this was the end of it, but it's not. A few days later I get a call from enterprise car rental company, saying I'd be charged $25 or so for a day of rental use (insurance paid for the first day or 2). I asked why and long story short, Gerber logged me returning the rental back to them on a Thursday when I in fact, returned the car to them on a Wednesday. Bottom line is that Gerber is dishonest, disrespectful, disorganized, unprofessional, uncommunicative, and extremely un-thorough. I am genuinely confused as to why any insurance company would recommend Gerber and esteem them as a good and honest body shop. I suppose they're comparing them to how insurance companies are as well. lying, disrespectful, and just out to get your money.

The free flat repair service was what first brought me to Discount Tire long ago as a first time driver, and the fact that it's free, professional, and informative made me a permanent customer now. Even after buying new cars, I come back to Discount Tire to check the wear and be honest about what my car actually needs (not just be upsold at the dealership). The certificates are always worth it! You never know when something is going to happen to your tire. Replacing a $200+ tire for free (or $49 if you get a cert on the new one) is extreme value in an unexpected time of need. Many complain about the wait. I say this is a variable that isn't always true, but is indicative of a trusted business. They do try to prioritize urgency, so be transparent with them if you have time or don't.

Before we could pull off, we then heard a giant clunk and noise quieted down but didn't stop. Pulled over and found a giant hole in the front right fender (plastic directly in front of the tire). Found a local mechanic that was still open. He zip-tied things down (I mistakenly thought he only used one...) in a few minutes. There was a language barrier so I wanted to make sure I had it checked out by a highly reputable shop after we got into Layton. Found Shadetree and Ryan helped us out, inspecting the work. Said everything is good to go until we get home (about 1500 miles from now), even with potential rain. "Best possible outcome" he said and wouldn't accept any payment for his time down on the ground and talking with me. Wouldn't even accept beer money for his crew. Thank you, Ryan!
