I have been studying in the 600-hour massage program at Calcopa Massage School for a little over…read morefour months now, and I honestly couldn't ask for a better school. The school is relatively small, but it's very well organized. The smaller class sizes allow instructors to give each student the attention they need, which makes a huge difference in learning. One of the things I appreciate most is the environment created by the owners and instructors. While they provide excellent structure and guidance, there's no sense of hierarchy here--they are approachable, supportive, and truly considerate of each student's individual situation. They always do their best to help you succeed, and because of this, the atmosphere among students feels like a family. The interactions are warm and encouraging, almost like being with siblings, and I genuinely enjoy coming to class every day. I originally chose Calcopa because they offer new full-time classes each month, which was very convenient for me since I didn't want to wait around for a new term to start. I'm not sure about the scheduling for part-time students, but I know the start dates are flexible as well. Overall, my experience here has been nothing but positive--filled with great learning, personal growth, and unexpected surprises. I'm truly grateful for choosing this school and would highly recommend it to anyone considering a massage therapy program.

I am a previous student from Dojo who enrolled in the summer SAT program (four days a week for nine…read moreweeks). Going into the program, I had already had previous experience with the SAT through the PSAT offered at my high school. I took the PSAT my freshman and sophomore year (I am a junior now), and scored 1070 and 1110 respectively. The course offered a pretty solid curriculum that allowed me to prepare for the August 2017 SAT where I scored in the top two percent of all test takers. However it is important to note that the PSAT is not an accurate representation of my SAT average before dojo, and that I am a decent scholar who just slacks off a lot. The program prepares the students through lessons (which teachers context and testing strategies) and practice tests/quizzes daily. As the saying goes, "practice makes perfect," and there was a lot of practice and review. I've also come to realize that the program has so far helped me retain knowledge that I would've forgotten during the summer (which helps with my load of APs this year), reteach me Algebra 2 and Geometry, and get introduced to concepts I am applying in my AP Lang class (it is basically tutoring during the summer and can be applied in classes and not just the SAT.) The program is divided between two teachers (Math and English). The math teacher, Mr. Loi (who is now studying at Princeton and no longer teaching) was an excellent tutor who helped me a lot. Although the math section was great, I have to say that the English part was lacking. Me and my peers found that what was taught in English was very redundant, not taught very well, and hard to apply to the tests. This also accounts for the essay where the practice was useless and served little purpose (I scored relatively low on the essay portion in compared to my Math and English sections). I learned most of my English strategies from Khan Academy to supplement what was missing at Dojo. I do believe that Dojo is worth it as the administration cares a lot for the students and our success. The administration is very active, talking to us several times a week and providing college counseling. In comparison to other institutions (Elite, UC Campus, etc.) where my friends went, I observed that people tend to improve and learn more at Dojo. Overall, I am very thankful for Dojo and owe my success to them.

This review is only for their FIRST AID certification-…read more I was looking around for a place to complete my first aid certification. I was glad to find out that you do not need to register prior nor do you need to make a reservation to attend class. It is on a walk-in basis and you just need to sign in. Once you get inside the room, the instructor gives you instructions to sign in and fill out a paper and an envelope. I gave them a check for $44 for standard first aid. If you're working with children, you must get the pediatric first aid (also $44) and it is the same instruction, but supposedly you just get a different card. The class says it is for four hours, but the instructor breezes by the lecture and it was done before I knew it. The center itself is a little small and it is not a normal classroom except for there being a whiteboard in the front of the classroom. There were lots of CPR dummies on the floor scattered everywhere and we sat in white lawn chairs. The instructor was a guy who was monotone and tried to be funny, but I was beginning to be really sleepy. All in all, you get what you pay for. In & out with your cert! I think I will be back for my re-cert for first aid :)

She even offered to find someone who could answer my questions about completing an out-of-state program and obtaining a California credential. Dee came out and spent about 20-30 minutes with me, walking me through two possible pathways. Another staff member, whose name I didn't catch, also stopped by to confirm and support the information Dee provided. Everyone I interacted with was friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely encouraging. The entire experience was far easier and more positive than I had expected. As a grant writer for Encore Programs in Huntington Beach, I have a good relationship with OCDE's…read morethe Disability Arts Program [https://ocde.us/OCArtsandDisability/Pages/VSA-Festival.aspx], as a result of receiving a micro-grant three years ago for Encore Programs. Since that award, which financed a client produced newsletter, OCDE has included some our clients in their annual Festival as well as Arts on the Move, and their fundraising projects. This involvement has been very important for us because it kick-started a project central to our Mission: an Arts Exposure Project. The Arts Exposure was subsequently initially supported by a grant from the California Arts Council and later reinforced by grants from the John Porter Trust and American Woodmark Foundation. This support has enabled us to finance field trips to art shows, art stores, and galleries that were otherwise outside of our reach due to transportation, equipment, and staff costs. As Claude Rains said in Lawrence of Arabia, "Great things have small beginnings." :-D
