I've been shopping at this Safeway for 18 years, ever since I moved into the neighborhood. In that time, the store's gotten prettier with all the renovations, but otherwise has gone downhill. Final straw, they're selling expired foods. It's not just by a day or two, but by a couple weeks or more. And not on dry goods or canned goods either. So far in the past couple weeks, it's been two packages of cheese and a tub of yogurt. I'm going to have to start shopping somewhere else. read more

Groceries etc. Safeway is very convenient and is nearby to the city, and is very useful, for It has most material etc. the employees will hook you up with things you need help with, they are all nice and will answer most of your questions. Mr. Slicked-back hair, short stature, white male employee that wears glasses speaks with a slight (Philly?) dialect: IF YOU HAVE A PSYCHOLOGICAL/MEDICAL CONDITION THEN I UNDERSTAND! If not, listen up: Watch your attitude. My fiance, 2 young children and I live 2 minutes away and though Freddy's is where we do our large quantity shopping, we drive down the street here to get the "I'm craving this" or "shoot, I forgot this" items quite frequently so my fiance and I have each had MANY MANY run ins with him. Trying to explain why the self checkout machine threw a ask for help alarm turned into him stepping back with hands up saying "fine, you do it your way man", my fiance has had him explain to her what the difference between a plastic and paper bag is because she asked if she could have paper. I am a very self aware person, if this was an attitude problem on our part or if we were so stupid that we deserved to be treated as such then I would never of taken time to post a complaint here on Yelp. There are many more stories like these, I would be shocked if we are the only ones who have dealt with him in this manner. He seems very energetic/outgoing/engaging/friendly when you watch him and I've ALWAYS treated him with respect just like every other employee of any other store. Even after all these instances we still go out of our way to be extra polite, if this was a store I didn't visit as often I would of stopped the politeness and just be civil after this many bad encounters. I'm tired of my fiance calling me after dealing with you sad and wondering what she did wrong, I'm 26 with a very colorful past, 5 years ago this would not of continued. They put out an ad on September 2nd 2020 for a Z Grills Wood Pellet Grill for $199. I called at 8:18am on that day to put one on hold. The employee answered the phone and I asked her if they had any of the Z Grills Wood Pellet Grills and after a few minutes on hold she came back and said yes. I asked if I could put one on hold and I would be in after I got off work, she said no problem. She took my name down and I thought everything was good. I showed up at the Clackamas Safeway on Sunnyside road to pick it up. A manager came over and said there has been a misunderstanding and there are no grills available. They claim their headsets were not working right and the guy in the back only heard the word "pellets" when the girl employee asked him if there were any Z Grills Wood Pellet Grills. I said the words Grills Wood Pellet Grill twice to the female employee, I never said pellets by itself. All they gave me was an apology and the female employee felt bad. If this was a ma and pa shop, they would have made good on their sale. Safeway was dishonest with me and my family and I will never shop there again. So the headset wasn't working properly and missed all the words of Z Grills Wood Pellet Grill and only heard pellets??? A business that has 900 stores with a revenue of 37 billion doesn't care about losing 3 or 4 customers, because 10 more will take our place. I guess greed wins again. I just got the chef special from their chinese food selection about thirty minutes ago. I was in a rush and needed something before getting on the bus home. I didnt expect much. You never do when purchasing from these ready to go counters. What i got though was sub-par even by those standards. My food was a tasteless textureless mush. For 6.49 i got absolute crap. Even the fried rice was a poor quality that soy sauce couldnt save. Please do something about this read more

So on our last night in Portland, to cap off an all day shopping exploration we wanted sweets and wine. My sister and I, she just celebrated her 16th bday, went in to the store while our parents waited in the car. I grabbed some Barefoot Moscato and Pepperidge Farm cookies. My sister was planning to buy some Cinnamon Sugar Pita Chips. The Cashier asked for my id, which I showed, and my sister's. Apparently a grown ass woman can't purchase alcohol with a minor!! Despite me cussing out the cashier and her manager for some bullshit ass policy, one which they made up by the way, they wouldn't even let my parents come in to purchase the alcohol. I personally feel the choice to enforce the policy on this day with this customer was racially motivated. Like a parent with kids can't purchase alcohol along with their groceries??? read more

This Safeway is in my area and I go here pretty often. It's always well stocked which is great when you're in need of certain things, I never had to drive to another Safeway to get something that they didn't have. The one problem I have is the bathrooms, there's only one! One for women and one for men. I appreciate that they made two separate genders because unisex bathrooms are always so trashed and dirty. Women's seems to be clean all the time and they do daily check ups to make sure it's well stocked with toilet paper, paper towel, etc. I hate having to wait in line since there is one women's bathroom, or even worse when I'm in there and someone starts banging on the door wanting me to get out! It's happened more than a few times and it's really uncomfortable especially when I haven't even had the chance to go yet! If they can somehow build more restrooms that would be so nice since I'm here so often, but in the mean time I guess I will just deal with it. read more

I tried going to Customer Service (no weight items) and Amy looked at me and left for 10 minutes with a fellow employee and then came back and rudely said she was with a customer. (I get it, you have to be a liar to work here). I love the Deli, Bakery and meat depts but the checkout is a deal breaker. read more

Older store. Produce is marginal. Meat prices are outrageous so they can mark it down "30%" and "50%" or "Buy 1, Get 2." Some baked goods have almost 3-week expiration dates (ew). read more

I am trying to like this store, but it isn't going to happen. I stopped in today, early morning so it wasn't crowded. First I stand at the meat counter while someone ignores me from the other end of the counter. Then the chicken breasts are all dried out and ugly. Then I head to checkout. There's one lane open, but no staff person in sight. So I move to the self checkout lane, try to buy an artichoke where the machine tells me staff assistance is required (for an artichoke?). There are two of us standing around waiting for a staff member to appear. He helps the other guy first, but it's something complicated, so I'm standing, standing, standing. Then I'm trying to cancel the artichoke so I can just get the rest of the stuff and get out of there. Not an option. Somebody finally appears. I'm going to have to find a different store. read more

This is my favorite grocery store ever- not Safeway but THIS Safeway! I can find almost everything I need (their are a few random things I have to get at target or a specialty store). The bakery has fresh breads regularly and the staff are helpful and friendly. The produce section is impressive. Maybe not the most expansive around, but what they do have is great. Its almost always stocked and getting preened by the crew. The staff goes above and beyond. They regularly go to the back if I need something that isn't out, or let me sample before I buy- a great example is the wonderful nectarines right now. The meat and seafood deli has a great staff. They are willing to help, cut fresh meats, package it however you want it. What more could you want? But wait- there is more. The meat and cheese deli is full of wonderful staff who remember me and my partner. They always smile, never complain, and are happy to help with our peculiar requests. You can tell they are always swamped but they are quicker and better than any other store's deli around. I think the biggest downside is the cashiers. There are some pretty slow and grumpy ones. This may be because I usually have a cart full, but that's what they're there for right?? read more

Safeway has over stepped the boundaries when it comes to posting signs about not selling tobacco to under 21 effective 8/18...The new law doesn't go into effect until 1/1/18 in Oregon so unless Safeways posts it as 'Their policy" , they are incorrect in stating it was effective 8/18 . It doesn't bother me that the won't sell to under 21 , but again, they jumped the gun on this one. They allegedly have a policy about 3 in line, supposed to open a new check stand but they don't adhere to this at all. read more

4 stars. Always clean. Nothing really special about the supermarket but no negative. They get pretty busy during regular busy hours. Could use one or two more cashiers. I'm not a big fan of the self checkout either. But nonetheless I would recommend this location. read more

I've shopped at this store for 16 years and have always been willing to pay more for groceries because of the atmosphere, selection, and service. Now, I am so turned off by the self checkouts they recently installed that I'm going to start checking different options to find a solution that works for me. I don't WANT to check my own groceries! The level of service at this store has declined drastically since the self checkouts were installed. read more

My friendly neighborhood Safeway - great customer service, great selection, great prices.

The store Ad offers some great deals but be very careful if you use the Safeway App to download coupons and always review your receipt very carefully. Even if the coupon shows up in your cart with a checkmark there is a good chance that it will not register and you will be charged the full fare. I have been carefully reviewing my Safeway receipts for the past 6 months. On average, each week there have been three items that I was charged full price for instead of the sale price I thought I was buying the item for. Sometimes it is a missed coupon. Sometimes it was fine print in the ad that I missed. Frequently the product that is shelved right above the sale price is NOT the sale item! It is the wrong size, or the wrong variety of the product so that I was charged up to twice what I thought I was paying. Sometimes I am charged for organic produce or for a more expensive produce item than what I purchased. read more
