There is no star earned by Safeway Store #2318. In Corte Madera, Ca. We have put up with this store for a long time. Only because it's the closest Safeway. May 30th 2026 ENOUGH. Why, well we stopped by today to get some "fresh cut deli Meat" There was 5 or 6 people trying get their orders.... ONE clerk. The clerk was busy. We waited 26 min. During the wait we observed 4 different types of meats laying out on the metal tables around the base of the slicing machines. One of the slicer was covered in meat juice dried on. it still had a turkey chunk still in the machine. All the meats were brownish, which is exactly what you get when you leave meat out exposed to the air and uncovered. We had already filled the cart with other over priced items. Even though they put out the weekly sales flyer every Wednesday. Items on sale are always gone, they never restock and clearly there is no manager that gives a darn. Most of the employees act like or don't speak English when you attempt to ask for assistance. The store is a dump, needs to be closed down.... Left our cart at the vacant customer service both...........we gone. Hey not a total loss, went down to the Strawberry Village Safeway. WOW night and DAY difference. Super long isles fully stocked. The deli is spotless and everything in the store is clean, neat orderly. Even the carts where clean. Total different crowd of customers, Employees where helpful knowledgeable and had a since of pride about their Store.. Our new Safeway add a mile, no big deal. I am going to double down on a previous review I left regarding this store. If anyone in corporate is reading this, do a surprise visit in the morning where you'll find all the employees huddling around chit chatting and blocking aisle ways rather than helping customers. Try waiting extended periods of time at the deli for a sandwich when you're the only person around and the employees pass by and ignore you. Or asking the man in the deli if anyone is available at the bakery so you can pick up the order you placed, and get the dirty look like you bothered him. Or how about the checker Zadair who flips your card terminal around so he can mark enter in all high ratings for the customer survey they ask you to take when paying for your groceries. Horrible, horrible management - their app was not working properly today so took a pic of the price tag. Cashier backed out the items (3) and tried running them again and it still didn't work. Cashier called over management and he argued with me that it was my fault - I must have used ALL the coupons! - No -they just came out yesterday and of course I did not. Just ringing up 3 items. The Safeway app is perpetual nightmare and management and staff at this location make it worse! They can't assess the errors, don't understand how it works nor how to mitigate and compensate when it isn't working. They don't speak English and are RUDE, RUDE, RUDE!. I usually come to the deli and pick up food to go with no issues. This time was very different. First of all the the employee behind the counter opted to help another person who lined up after me. All good I'm patient. I proceed to order a BLT and I always add a chicken tender. The chicken tender is an extra charge that's fine, but she was telling me the bacon was an extra charge too. I've never been charged extra for bacon on a BLT. I tried asking her what comes in a BLT and she couldn't answer me . She also insisted I get the combo several times after I said no. I received two bags of carrots that I can't eat because I have immune deficiency and bagged carrots don't have tops therefore they have virtually null vitamins. Robin from the deli has a bad attitude...I usually buy their 8 piece chicken but this time I get 4 pieces of the chicken and they are smaller than the wings. How disappointing. Terrible experience, and no employees cared about making it right, very unfortunate.... We usually shop at the strawberry Safeway where the produce is fresh, the shopping carts are clean and the employees greet you with a smile. Yesterday we wanted Philz coffee, and after made the mistake of stopping into the Corte Madera safeway to pick up some milk and a few other staples. I noticed spices were on sale so we stocked up on saffron, vanilla bean, and some organic teas. The total came to $103.75. The Safeway ap said spend $100 or more and you get a free turkey. Sweet... too bad they were out of the free turkeys. The manager gave us a rain check.. and said come back tomorrow, so we did, exactly 24 hours later. This time I bought Bok Choi, bean sprouts, and green onions. I found a 10.5 pound Safeway signature farms turkey that matched the rain check. At the register the cashier was confused and went to the manager who said there was no employee # on the rain check so they would not honor it. I could not make out the signature, they didn't even try. Then they asked who gave it to me and wanted me to describe them..... ah, a middle aged African American woman? They asked for my receipt, which I didn't have with me, then they just ignored me. Why not check who was the manager on duty yesterday? The rain check said "free turkey" the value was $15. Come on Safeway, get your act together and give a s**t! Do whatever you can to avoid this store and their terrible customer service! read more

This goes ONLY for the deli. Everytime I go it seems impossible to get anyone's attention to get help. The employees are always hoding out on the back & completely oblivious, or just don't care that I have been standing there waiting for 10 minutes or more. Please don't suggest it is because they were busy, I am a former Safeway employee years ago & customers are ALWAYS supposed to come first. I was the only one waiting there. So apparently they do not want my business, & I walked away. (I will say that there is this one guy who works there who seems an exception to this. Always friendly, with a smile & doesn't leave me waiting forever. Also, he gets it right which is something that the other deli employees, if I do manage to get their attention, cannot seem to do. This is by far one of the worst Safeways I have been too. I stopped shopping here a while ago due to bad experiences. They are always out of stock of throngs. Even milk and eggs. Once I went to the meat counter to grab something and the guy behind the counter would not help me. He said "he only does seafood". When I asked we could help me he replayed no one. Today I braved the store for some needed deli meat. When I approached the counter the 3 ladies stood there and ignored me. When I finally asked for help they said they were closed and started laughing. I thought they were just kidding with me, but kept repeating they were closed. It was 1:00 in the afternoon! This store's produce dept is BAD!!! Today I was shopping for produce, the asparagus was stale, every single bunch was wilted, the heads were dried, some had gone bad and were slimy. Cauliflower heads had brown spots, every one. Green beans were yellowed, wilted, some had spots. The pre-packaged veg racks were near empty. After extensive remodeling and a coupon campaign in the neighborhood to invit folks to see your refreshed digs this was huge letdown. I will be going to TJ's and Nugget in the future. read more

Denise, Ricky Givens, Eric, Prudencia in produce are all hardworking and easy to get along with. They know their inventory, and are helpful in finding items that you are unable to find. Worst grocery store in Marin. Unfortunately I am forced to go there because it is the closest to me. Customer service is horrible. Want someone in the meat section? Good luck. Want to talk to a manager? Good luck. Want to go through a line where an actual human being scans and bags your purchase? Good luck. They only have live people for 15items or less otherwise you have to go through the self check out which is backwards. If I have a large purchase I am obviously spending a decent amount of money and should have a real person checking me out. My last four trips there have been horrendous customer service. I will find somewhere else to go even if I have to drive further. Also produce sucks. I can't remember he last time we found decent Basil there. Staffing and attitudes at Strawberry and Corte Madera stores unfortunately appear to have declined substantially. Prices always ring up wrong and new staff always want your phone claiming it is a clip or click problem. Most of the time its not and, no - I don't want to give you my phone to prove the issue and have you fumble around with it and have to follow you around the store to get it back while dragging my cart and child along. I can't visit these stores anymore without 2 to 3 pricing issues every time I visit. It used to be there wasn't an assumption it was automatically the customer's fault and an argument/hassle, but now every time staff assume its the customer's fault when its been (1) a wrong sign or promos, (2) not on click and clip promos or (3) stock on the wrong shelf, etc. Staff are condescending and usually wrong - but gone are the apologies and polite attitudes. I agree as others have said - getting help at the Deli takes an act of God. (Last time I saw a woman just walk around and help herself out of frustration.) Most staff and management at these stores no longer appear to want to be in a Customer Service roles- so really, why are you? I'm sure these jobs are challenging but I did it when I was younger and people can be good at it. If you aren't, you should move on. I'd rather deal with a stupid automated scanner and 1 person that is able to troubleshoot than the current hassles. So Safeway - I suggest you do the math if each time moving forward the pricing glitches happen - I'll just take it up with the credit card company next time there is a pricing issue and, you Safeway, can deal with that and the chargeback fees of $25 a pop for pricing mistakes (which will far exceed any profit you will make.) I'll then save my sanity and skip purchases at the Deli and head over to Trader Joes (whose staff are much more attentive and polite.) read more

This location is just dreadful. No one working here is willing to help you find anything. When they see you approaching, they scurry away or pretend they didn't see you. Don't bother going to their non-existent customer service area. During my last visit, I stood there for 15 minutes waiting for someone to show up. I kept signaling to one of the two checkers working that day to see if they could call someone. When someone did finally show up, they said "someone will be right with you" and darted off into that little office space and didn't come out for another 8 minutes only to leave abruptly. Customer service here is terrible, at all levels. Everyone seems so unhappy working there. That's one thing. What Safeway offers is another. Their produce is some of the worst anywhere in the bay area. It's not at all fresh looking and their organic section is a joke. I went to buy some pre-pealed garlic the other day that was in a jar and noticed it was imported from China, really? We live only a few hours a way from the garlic capital of the world and they're selling garlic from China. There are so many other great options for groceries in our area. OMG, baker Hector came through for me once again! My son wanted his bday theme to be a popular boys' anime called "BeyBlade". I've contacted specialty bakeries i.e., Sift, Cako, Victoria's Pastry, Susie Cakes, etc., to see if they'll make this cartoon character, and they refused due to copyrights. I ran down to Safeway with a picture of BeyBlade, and they advised Hector can make this happen on my son's bday which was on 11/11/11 (truly special & super lucky). The cake was immaculate, and he transposed my pictures onto edible paper. He noted every color & detail (even the blades) - the kids thought it was amazing! My son had a blast on his 8th birthday (lucky #8) @ House of Air, couldn't have asked for more! I visited Safeway this evening, and the guy working behind the deli counter told me that they were not allowed to slice anymore cheese. Because, "they have cut our ours and the deli has to be closed by 8:00." I asked to speak to the manager, and he replied that the manager was already gone for the evening. He was visibly upset and apologetic. Of course there was the usual two very long lines with only two cashiers for the whole store. A third, quite rude cashier who was working the self checkout was bossing around other customers in line with alcohol to purchase telling them to check out everything but their alcohol at the self checkout and then wait at customer service to pay for the alcohol. Tonight reminded me of why I swore not to spend another dollar at Safeway. Terrible customer service, and they obviously treat their employees awfully. I wish they would shut down the Safeway and replace it with anything else, a whole foods or something. read more

I take back everything I said in my previous review. This Safeway is just as poorly managed as the other Marin locations. It really is the DMV of supermarkets. I came here recently to pick up a few groceries around 11:30am hoping to beat the mad lunchtime rush. Unfortunately, no such luck. Of the seven check-out lanes, only two were open. And the self-check out lanes seemed to be broken/closed. I first tried one express lane where there was only one person ahead of me. As I started to unload my groceries, the lady at the register angrily wagged her finger at me declaring, "This lane is closed." Alas, I was resigned to wait for one of the two open lanes (where there 8 people ahead of me with full shopping carts). Long story short... it took me over 20 minutes to pay for 6 lousy items. What ever happened to the days of "Three's a Crowd" and someone opening up another lane? If this were another time of day, I could maybe understand them being short-staffed. But this was during lunch hour, which I have to imagine is one of their busiest/prime times. Another thing worth noting is that pretty much everyone who works in this store just looks unhappy. And their gloominess is somewhat infectious. Say what you want about Whole Foods and Trader Joe's... but those stores actually have a positive vibe. It's fun to shop at these places because the employees seem like they're happy to work there. On a more positive side, this Safeway is located in a pretty shopping center with plenty of charming shops and restaurants as well as a huge parking lot. But I can't help but think that this location seems more like an appropriate setting for a Whole Foods Market. But I digress. All in all, I would only shop at this Safeway if I was in the neighborhood and had nowhere else to go. I hate to be a hater, but there's little love to be found at this store. read more
