We came here for a "dessert" after lunch and found the location not as crowded as usual for 2pmsih on a weekday. The place is clean and well-kept, and one of the workers was busy cleaning the restroom and even sweeping under the display stands. Gustavo was friendly and efficient in getting the order taken and mixed. We had a Pistachio latte, and sadly, the pistachio latte had little pistachio flavor. The other person thought it was a regular cafe latte, so at least they could taste some coffee! The Matcha creme frappuccino looked strange, like a spinach frappe--not visually attractive, and its taste was not much better. It needed 3 Splendas to be palatable. This is sad, as I have had that flavor in ice cream and pastries, and it was always delicious. Not this drink . . . So, the drinks were a solid 1 star, but the location, ambiance, and staff were a 5 star! I will try other drinks next time - challenge accepted! read more

I typically don't write reviews on businesses like Starbucks, because they're typically the same everywhere. But this Starbucks is a huge stand out to me. I have 6-8 around me and will go out of my way to come here. The staff is always friendly, they genuinely care about their customers and remember them. This morning our food took a little longer than usual (no big deal in my mind, they're busy), but they handed us our food with $4 GCs for the inconvenience. A standard Starbucks, but with plenty of seating and parking that make it a convenient stop for that caffeine fix. Because my car needed service nearby, I ended up working from this Starbucks. Conveniently located in the vicinity of several auto shops in the area, it was a welcome stop as I worked while waiting for my car to receive maintenance. As mentioned earlier, it is a pretty big space with seats both indoor and outdoor. Thankfully, there are a few spaces with outlets, but if you do not claim them soon enough you may be SOL. Standard with all Starbucks, there is free WiFi and a soothing cafe soundtrack playing. They do have a bathroom but it does require a code. Quick note, when I went and did a mobile order, they had me check in with the barista to get my drink which has not been the general trend at other Starbucks. If I was waiting for my order in the waiting line and someone was heading out with both hands full, I would gladly open the door. Starbucks may be ubiquitous all over the world but there are few that provide plenty of parking, lots of clean indoor and dog-friendly outdoor seating (somebody actually brought their small dog into the building with no fuss), copious outlet access, a huge open space as well as private breakout areas, and friendly service. This is easily one of the best Starbucks I've ever been to. I went with the refillable tall passion tea to power my day and plopped down at a nice window seat. Even the plastic chairs are ergonomically designed and styled, and quite comfy here. The drink was pretty good stuff as expected and I went through quite a few cups in the few hours I was here. While you can find a Starbucks location everywhere, they are definitely not created equal. However, I think I discovered one of the best ones today and this has become my new GTD location post move. I don't often Yelp about chains like Starbucks. But when I do, it's usually to give management the heads-up when things are off with one of their locations (hence, this review). Let me first off by saying, I am NOT a Starbucks hater. I actually frequent multiple Starbucks all over the Bay and beyond when I'm in need of a caffeine fix or quick bite-to-go. So you won't ever hear me complaining about the product. But at this particular San Rafael Starbucks, I do have have some gripes about the cleanliness and service. So management, if you're listening, here's what you should know... - The floors need mopping and the tables need wiping - The breakfast sandwiches in the display window looked old and unappetizing (remember, people eat with their eyes). - The two sandwiches that I tried to order (which were in the display) were out of stock at 10am. - One of the baristas made it very clear that she wasn't happy to be there. Now don't get me wrong, I'm sure this isn't her dream job. But you don't have to make the customers feel lousy that you have to work mornings. - The double espresso I ordered took almost ten minutes to arrive (and there were only 2 other customers ahead of me in line). Wish there was a way to give a zero star rating! This store infuriates me beyond belief but yet I keep returning because they open at 4:30 which is convenient for my work schedule. After reading many of the customer reviews, I'm in 100% agreement that the AM staff is moody and often times makes very little contact if any with the customers. I've made numerous complaints to corporate about this location, but nothing seems to change! Perhaps when they lose regulars do to their actions, it might be the wake up call that's greatly needed! Often times, the morning team is moody and won't speak to you. They see customers standing outside but refuse to open the doors prior to 4:30 regardless. This finally after numerous complaints got fixed and the doors are now open at 4:20 but a few times the sandwich warmers hadn't been turned on until my arrival causing a 15-20 minute delay of me being able to leave and head to work. I've had the wrong sandwiches made, sandwiches handed off 1/2 way cooked, drinks made incorrectly (How do you confuse Toffee Nut with Hazelnut repeatedly)? Mari, and the new girl working mornings are always unwelcoming, as if they didn't get enough sleep or they flat out don't wish to be their..... Not a hello or good morning, not a thank you when leaving. ALWAYS rude and other morning regulars have said the same thing. Don't like customers, LEAVE! Nia and Keisha are the only 2 of the morning crew who appear to be level headed and pleasant. Vanessa who works nights was finally stopped by corporate/district management after numerous complaints by myself of parking her car in the handicap zone every morning when she's far from disabled all because she felt privledged and didnt desire to walk a few additional steps leaving these spaces available to those who truly needed them. See attached photos. Then she'd come in and walk behind the bar while off the clock and make her own drinks when customers were clearly waiting to have theirs made. Once again...... You're not a privledged Princess! I worked for Starbucks for many years and all of the above conduct with attitudes and taking advantage of the law, just make the company as well as yourselves look bad! I went in today at 4:20 AM, first customer. Wasn't spoken to by either Mari or the new girl. I ordered my regular and wasn't thanked and had my sandwich pushed at me onto the pick up area and my drink handed off with NO eye contact by Mari. I'm beyond fed up with the snobby, prissy attitudes of the AM staff! Remember, people complain when they notice things aren't right. Read your reviews, not just me who feels angered by your lack of service, and bad attitude! We can go elsewhere and remember..... Our continued return keeps the store operating and a paycheck going in your pocket! With that being said... Get the attitudes in check! A disaster. There was no wait and the store was disgusting, worse than I've ever seen it. I asked for an iced coffee with vanilla, repeated 4x. She charged me $7.05 & I told her that amount was incorrect. The total magically decreased by $3 but I had to inform the barista of the correction, she already instructed me to scan my card for $7.05. Since Maria left there is zero interpersonal connection and the counters are one big puddle. Floors were sticky and the bathroom had feces on the wall (not posting that. All trash overflowing and the condiment bar milks were all empty for my Iced Coffee, which was made with the Classic Syrup instead of the requested Vanilla. Not sure why several reviews stated there are not outlets at this location? Because there definitely are! I actually came here just for the purpose of getting some work done on a Sunday afternoon and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the location was almost empty. There were several seats open at a long table along the windows and every two seats there was an outlet. Additionally, the wifi was great! I'm giving it three stars because my cappuccino tasted a bit on the burnt side and because the bathroom seemed unnecessarily dirty for how non-busy the location was when I was there. However, if I'm ever in the area and I need to work again, I would come back! read more

The Starbucks on Irwin is great. Between 9:00 and 9:20am there is usually no line. After that it does get long so timing is everything. They're quick and courteous, and already know my drink. But here's the best part: some of the baristas from my Mill Valley Roco studio Starbucks work here too. That means that they start on my drink and have it ready sometimes before I even get to pay. And also, when I have ordered my girl's xtra long almost all boxes checked drink, she knew exactly who it was for and put her name on the cup without me even saying it. The size able Starbucks has great outdoor seating with (surprisingly) quite a few trees adding some shade and some life to an otherwise lifeless concrete jungle. I go in to get a smoothie and they take my order, they make the drink in a timely manner but then they leave it sitting on their back counter while I'm at the front counter waiting on it and they go about making someone else's drink, so finally after they make a couple of drinks I ask them if it's finished and if I can have it and they act dumb as hell and never even apologize, like I'm the problem! This is MY *bux!!! The coffee drinks are prepared consistently good, all of the morning staff are always friendly, upbeat, and of course: FAST! I had one bad experience here with a barista from the late afternoon closing shift, but she can simply suck it!! Even if the line is out the door (like it was this morning), they take everyone's orders quickly, and the drinks are prepared FAST & ACCURATELY!!! You can always find a good seat, good for coffee meetings, and the restrooms are always clean.
