The only store in town open when I need them. Cold or flu meds and late night snacks; they are the go to. Always clean, friendly register staff, many are familiar faces who have worked there for years. Negatives, gotta find an employee to open the bathrooms. Now my favorite is the hot fresh French bread, hot chicken and wedges. My all time favorites is they carry Buzz Betty, a grapefruit drink and their limited edition ginger cranberry Italian drink. While recently in vacation in Crescent City amd staying with family. We happened to shop at this Safeway on a number of various occasions, for different needs. Getting anything from a few basic essentials, to light snacks for our upcoming trips to the National Forrests and locals rivers. To different grocery needs for lunch and dinner. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and everything were were looking for we were able to find. Only bummer (not Safeways fault) was up missing the operating hours of the met department. As we wee hoping to get some ground tri-tip, but the department had just closed about an hr earlier. But other than that, we had no issues getting anything. read more

A recent "pick up at the curb order" was very disappointing to say the least. Produce looked like farm rejects, while sausages were within two days of the sell-by date! Crescent City was our home base during our 6-day visit to the Redwoods. We decided to make most of our meals at home instead of going out, so we went shopping for food. We had a rather unpleasant experience at the local Walmart with panhandlers swarming shoppers and an overall bleh shopping experience. Not to sound hoity-toity or anything, but the clientele seemed worse than the usual Walmarts I've visited around the nation. I did not feel safe and would not have wanted to shop there as a solo female; especially not at night. It was refreshing, needless to say, when we went to the Safeway and the first thing we saw was a store employee confronting a panhandler and demanding that they leave the property. The store employees were very friendly and the other shoppers never made me feel uncomfortable or unsafe. I'd still be on guard as a solo female shopper, but much less than the alternative. Also, the produce and food selections were solid. If you're staying in Crescent City and would like a safer shopping option, I'd recommend Safeway. read more

I have been in a lot of grocery stores and a lot of Safeways all over California. This Safeway is not a super huge super store, but they manage to have a nice variety, decent prices. Their produce and meat selection is good and well presented. They have a lot of people on staff and so service is usually pretty fast everywhere except the customer service desk. ( you guys need a call button there). My son is lactose intolerant and they have a decent supply of dairy alternative ice creams, soy sour cream, non dairy milks. Best ribeye with bone in available in town hands down. Their selections are always near constant and supplies are plentiful. The shelf stocked always and decent amount of fresh produce are always available. The deli section is quite limited and the chicken wings and fried chicken are super salty and at times wanting better recipes. read more

The bakery here is outstanding. We ordered our wedding cakes and wedding cupcakes here. Everything was beautiful, decorated just as I requested. Plus they were scrumptious and easy to order. We will be coming back here for all of our dessert needs. We highly recommend them. read more

I read all these reviews about the employees not wearing masks or having them tucked under their chins. I shop Safeway at least 4 times a week and have Never seen an employee with a mask tucked or not on properly. As for the patrons, they ( the employees) have no power to force the wearing of masks. Worry about yourselves and mask. Wipe your own cart down before use and make sure you use hand sanitizer when you get in your car. Start taking responsibility for yourself and stop trying to control the rest. As for Safeway , I will continue to shop there. The products are the best in town. read more

The butcher ignored us as we stood at the counter and waved his arm as he walked away. We tried to ask for help and we were ignored. I went to the florist and she told me to go to the customer service for a comment card then as I got there an announcement came of "The customer service desk is closed" just as I got there. As I walked away a worker stopped me and was rudely saying they were trying to help but shutting the customer service desk just as I get there is the opposite of customer service and talking back to a customer defeats it further. Decided to go to Safeway on my 30 minute lunch to get one of their hot and ready items. I decided on the 1 entree 2 sides selection and chose meat loaf as my entree. The person who helped me seemed new and didn't really know what she was doing. After purchasing, I tried to stick my forth into the meat loaf and discovered it was still cold and frozen, so I brought it back to the deli. The person that helped me told me they didn't have anything to heat it up and I could simply eat it frozen cold because everything was already cooked. That is terrible and a lie because I have ordered their ready to eat meatloaf from Safeways before and it was never frozen solid. I have never been told to eat frozen meatloaf cold. Terrible! This whole ordeal took about 20 minutes not to mention I had to drive back to work. With no time left to spare on my lunch, I decided not to argue or seek the manager and just left. My entire lunch was ruined. I'll take my business to the other restaurants in the plaza and I advise others to do the same. read more

Safeway is reliable and convenient. The sales here are often really good, though you have to get there on the right day or it's all gone. I can find good produce and dairy (but why do they run out of half-gallons of skim milk?). The poultry selection is often low, and the 'fresh' chicken is sometimes frozen when I pick it up to check it out. But again, the sales are good in the meat section. Their house bacon is pretty good. The cheese selection isn't too bad. It's always clean in here, and it's my where I shop when the farmers' market isn't happening and Grocery Outlet doesn't have it. read more

No excuse for all the pathetic reviews of the store! The produce is fresh and plentiful, with enough different selections. There is an organic produce section which competes with the other. They even make their own bread, including some more healthy options. They sell organic Rosie chicken in addition to the usual brands. I had 4 rewards and clipped the coupon on my app after I made sure they had the product they were advertising for free with 4 rewards. After I checked out, I was still charged for the product. So I went back in the store for a refund but the customer service clerk acted like I was lying. She said she needed to see my app and the clipped coupon which is understandable but I didn't know how to find it. I asked her how to pull up the clipped coupon but she was sighing like I was a burden and just trying to get free stuff. She constantly cut me off everything I spoke. She rolled her eyes when I asked her why she was speaking so rudely to me. She denied being rude and laughed but she was extremely rude and treated me like I was stupid. I reminded her she was working at the customer service desk and she should have good customer service. She rolled her eyes. She tried showing me on her phone where the clipped coupons would be and I followed her instructions but they didn't show up. She said people have been clipping the coupons and they have worked all day! So she was even more rude and insinuated I was lying. She reluctantly said she'd refund my money just this once and if it happened again I'd have to call the customer service number on the recand take it up with them and she will NOT give me refund again if I was rang up for a clipped coupon in the future! She acted very put out! She asked a question but when I tried to answer she just cut me off. I told her if she's asking a question she should at least let me finish my answer. I can't believe I was treated in this manner. I've been a loyal customer of this store for 23 years and never had such rude service! Customers should always be treated with dignity and respect and at least be kind and friendly. That's not what happened at all. As I checked my app to figure out what happened, I found where the clipped coupon was so I went back in the store to show her so in case another customer has this issue she doesn't belittle them and talk down to them as she did to me. When I got home, I tried calling 5 times to speak to a manager but they don't answer the phone so that's why I'm posting my complaint here. Customer service should be trained better to help customers and not treat them like lying thieves. They should be trained on how to use the app as well so they can be more helpful to customers instead of degrading them! I will still shop there because we are so limited on the grocery stores we have in this area. But I will always check my receipts! This is a first rate Safeway store run well great management and the produce is so fresh you might have to slap it. Really it is great the staff superb with great attention to detail and always greeting customers by name that is what I call hometown service. Thumbs up to Crescent City Safeway this is a five star store. They have full service butcher, baker, florist, western union outlet, fresh squeezed Juices, use your club card and get added savings here. Only complaints here are that its dim lite and I like bright stores and the cost of their products are super spendy. This store has almost a monopoly because its the nicest place in town, has a wide selection and is a quality name people recognize. There are not many other grocery stores (Grocery Outlet and a ShopSmart, and now Wal-Mart carries food). I shop here because Wal-Mart is incredibly EVIL but it's super expensive, even with a Safeway Club Card. I live in So Cal and Stater Bro's gets you twice as much food for the same cost. read more

This supermarket has the worst Covid practices that I have experienced in the whole of California. No cleaning of carts and no control of people entering stores. No notices on doors requiring shoppers to wear masks. Two times I have been in here I seen ~20% of people without masks and staff with masks tucked under their nose. I brought this up to the assistant manager of customer service as I checked out this evening and she stated that they were not allowed to enforce the mask policy, just as the young lady behind me sneezed without a mask on. Worse experience grocery shopping in the many months of COVID that I've had. Half of the customers were wearing a face covering, though probably a forth were wearing one correctly (an actual mask over the mouth and nose). Many patrons were not wearing masks. When I went to self-check out, I was directed to use a kiosk that was within 6ft of a completely unmasked family. Will not be returning. read more

Worst pharmacy ever! Traveling need prescriptions without a break. Called them they said they had it no problem. Called my doctor to send the prescription. Then they don't have it. That's going to take a week to get it. Drive seven hours back because I'd like to think it's easier than waiting a week to change the prescription to another location. Nice market, wonderful checkers...only complaint would be the Deli...not too friendly..cold salads were good. But the fried chicken was AWEFUL..It seems all Safeway markets make aweful fried chicken...someone needs to teach management how to cook fried chicken right ..I spent $17 for the worst fried chicken I have ever had...I normally love the skin, but in order for me to eat it (cause I was starving), I had to take the skin off. One star is too much for this particular Safeway. The checkers here are rude and discourteous. Most seem confused and agitated and very unfriendly. The woman at the Customer Service area took forever to service just one individual and never looked up to us who were patiently waiting nor said anything to acknowledge our presence. I will however say the lunch meat we bought her was surprisingly good, and the Safeway deli and meat counters are definitely not my top choice.
