Am a local who has shopped here for over a decade. Today, in the produce dept I found 2 moldy peaches and 3 moldy tomatoes. They were in amongst good produce. I took out one of the peaches and found an produce department employee and explained the issue. He was not in the least concerned and seemed almost annoyed I had brought it to his attention. read more

This is a clean, well stocked grocery store. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Ambience was nice and there was a Starbucks inside.

I noticed regular gas prices along Hwy 2 from Monroe, Sultan, and Leavenworth were rather high, above $5/gallon. On my way towards Cashmere, I made a note to stop at the Safeway fuel area outside of Leavenworth. It was surprisingly at $4.80ish/gallon (sorry wasn't able to obtain a receipt). I will never shop at the Safeway Bakery again. EVER. The taste & appearance of the baked goods is fine - I'm sure the cooks are very good! hence 3 stars - but Safeway CORPORATE is apparently requiring some additives/preservatives/excitotoxins/additional sugar because we split ONE PIECE of carrot cake (which was tasty), and I had SEVERE HEADACHES for a WEEK requiring prescription pain meds (!) and my husband had digestive issues (plus his blood sugar shot up to over 200). We used to buy carrot cake Safeway Bakery once/year for his birthday, no problems....So then we went to Home Fires bakery in Leavenworth and bought a carrot cake, just as Tasty, actually more because they didn't overdo the sugar - NO PROBLEMS. Probably they are not adding anything to their baked goods to make it last on the shelf longer. Home Fires doesn't have to because they are SELLING OUT. Corporate Safeway should be ASHAMED for harming their own customers! Or whoever is behind these unnecessary additives. I don't have anything against any of the employees at Safeway, in fact I find them all exceptionally kind, helpful, professional, and hard-working at the Meat Counter, Pharmacy, and Check-out. I look forward to seeing Cameron, Steve, Alissa, and Tony, as well as others I don't know by name. We are regular shoppers at Safeway, and I'm sure any issues are NOT with the employees! I don't even like to post this, but it is pretty serious when one has 3-4 severe headaches/day for a WEEK! This is the worst case of food poisoning I have ever had. I don't know what else to call it. I am probably more sensitive than many - maybe it won't bother you - but that's why I went to Home Fires Bakery to test it and had no negative reaction whatsoever! read more

Generally I like Safeway. This is typical Safeway and American sushi is better than average.

Depending on the time of day and season, this place can be empty or packed. My parents and I came here as part of a family reunion to just get some general supplies while in town for a few days. Since Leavenworth is a Bavarian-theme town, most of the stores don't hold stock quite like the generalities Safeway does. My favorite purchase at the time of the family reunion was a small head of red cabbage, which I proceeded to eat like an apple while socializing during one of the more quiet times of the family reunion. Sometimes red cabbage heads are massive, so having a smaller head was more manageable for consumption. More recently, I have made this Safeway my go-to store for last minute snack, fluid, and road supplies when heading into/out of Cashmere to visit my uncle living there. He moved to the area approximately six years ago, but I didn't start visiting him until November 2020 (overnight visits, June 2020 for day visits). My visits thus far, have corresponded to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fortunately, the Leavenworth Safeway has remained open during this time. In my experience there have occasionally been lines at check-out, however not long lines. read more

I was in Leavenworth this weekend for octoberfest and stopped by the Safeway for some coffee. This location is so cute, just like everything in the town. I loved the pumpkin patch outside and the fall decorations in the store and at starbucks. The store was clean and the staff was nice. There was a small line for the bathroom but nothing too crazy. The tables outside are nice to sit in and have a snack or coffee. I love this location! read more

Buyer beware that our family contracted food poisoning from meat purchased here this last weekend. Meat was pre-formed "fresh" burger patties that were on sale in the meat section. They were thoroughly cooked to temp by me. Two of our five family members consumed them, and have now been vomiting and have had severe diarrhea since, including a child. We also gave a bite to our Labrador who ALSO vomited. Took my child to urgent care today as a result. Was unable to reach a manager by phone. The commenter below clearly didn't read my review. In the height of the summer and tourist season, this place is an absolute madhouse. Everything about it is chaos, so just know before you go that you need to give yourself plenty of extra time for everything from parking, to sharing aisle space, to checkout lane. I was trying to pop in and out kinda quick, just for a few little items, some firewood, and ice, and it turned out to be a longer production. They do indeed have all of that; it's not an incredibly popular destination without a reason, and it's a big store (though smaller than many Safeways) with loads of selection. You may face just a bit of tourist town sticker shock--everything is a little more spendy here--but it's not incomprehensible. If you can get groceries before you get to town, then you'll have money and a little headache. But if you're local, you're probably over at the other local-vibe grocery store. read more

I had the worst customer service experience here. I've always been Safeway's loyal customer due to the decent quality of produce and dairy, but the service is often inconsistent. We traveled to Leavenworth for the day and stopped by for restock, the bathroom was extremely dirty. During checkout, the staff member rudely tossed everything onto the counter for my parents to bag and looked at us condescendingly. My parents were upset afterwards, asking me what they did wrong, and their day was ruined. I was shocked how we were treated, never come back here. read more

Came to visit Leavenworth and forgot to pick up my prescription from the Safeway near my home in Puyallup, they were very accommodating and quickly filled my prescription in 20 minutes. Everybody here was kind. I know how hard tourist can be, but everyone was super pleasant. read more

Dirty. Dirty. Dirty. Did I mention dirty? Hard to maneuver in the aisles because there are so many people AND the aisles don't seem spacious enough for two carts to pass one another. My daughter had to use the restroom and may I just say no one clearly has cleaned these in quite some time. For a store that's signed to "care about customer safety" they have many people unmasked walking around, people "nose masking" it and employees doing the same. Y'all it's a pandemic. STILL. And state law has indoor mask mandates. I'm never a big fan of Safeway but this one doesn't fit in to the idyllic "Christmas Town" it's a part of. Gross y'all. You can do better. read more

My wife and I are visiting Leavenworth for a few days, and I went to Safeway today to get some essentials for our stay. I could tell that the store was really busy with lots of customers (the whole town is super busy). As a guess, I bet you that the store is short-staffed like so many businesses these days. But the store was clean, and the cashier who helped me was SUPER SUPER friendly and helped me get some discount prices I wasn't expecting. She even made a special effort to quickly re-fill the hand sanitizer that ran out just as it was my turn to check out. I know times are tough, and people are fearful, and there is lots of stress, but I really appreciate the work that folks are doing in their day to day jobs, and I feel that the staff and management at this store deserve our thanks. Thank you!!! Just before checking out, I witnessed one customer giving the manager a really hard time because the store was not strictly enforcing the standards for wearing a mask (even though 90% of the people in the store were compliant). I felt that this woman was way out of line, but I admired how well and professional the manager handled this situation. I wanted to tell him in person, but my timing was off and I missed catching up to him. Regardless, Mr. Manager, I appreciate that you and your staff are doing the best that you can to do your job, and the store is operating great! Not all of us agree with the complaint you heard today, or the tone and manner in which it was given. I can only imagine the whole line of difficult situations you must face every day, having to deal with complaints from both directions. I know that this pandemic situation puts you and others in really tough situations, and I was hoping I could at least pass on some encouragement of understanding. Please don't get me wrong... I always choose to wear a mask when appropriate, wash my hands, use sanitizer, and I am personally VERY pro all the Covid safeguards we have at our disposal. I am just saddened by the bullying and threatening and complaining that I see around me on all sides, and I pray for the day when people will start to live in a state of understanding and support for each other (myself included). Store is always fully stocked. They have everything you need for your stay in Leavenworth. It's the same prices as my hometown. Everything is fresh. We go around 9pm at night to do our shopping as it tends to get crowded being one of the only big grocery stores for miles and miles. Store is very clean and workers are friendly. read more

I thought I would just stop by today for a few supplies since I passed through town today. I had to leave my full cart in the store at check out to keep from being overly potentially exposed to Covid. There We're not enough checkers and so crowded social distancing was not possible. Further, only about 50 percent of the people were wearing masks. The store needs more checkers at a minimum. Risky at times there if potential exposure to the virus is concerning to you. read more

Is it the intent of Safeway there in leavenworth to continue to carry the line of drink mixes called MIO ? I have been there at least three times this last month and the MIO rack has not been filled or kept up. One of the biggest sellers is the sweet tea flavor. There has not been one head of iceberg lettuce at my local Safeway for three weeks! Also, there have been no products left in the refrigerated vegetarian food section for over two weeks. I live in a tourist town. We are a small community, but during the summer and winter months our population expands exponentially. It appears that whoever is managing our local Safeway doesn't take into account the population increase during these seasons of the year. Safeway is the only large market for about 20 miles. I know that means there is a captive audience with no competition for miles, but is it too much to ask that we be shown a bit of respect as customers and have an opportunity to buy a freaking head of lettuce?! read more

I had terrible service at the starbucks in leavenworth on father day, I went into the store around 1 pm to get a coffee , I know it was 81 degrees but I needed some caffeine. there was 3 employees there no line I step up to the window dow and waited they looked at me and continue to what they were doing of cleaning and talking to each other about breaks. Pharmacy-I have finally had it with the Safeway pharmacy! My husband and I have lived here for over 10 years and have consistently been treated like nuisances instead of valued customers..The behavior ranges from downright indifference, condescension, to outright rudeness with the cherry being the sheer unwillingness to provide basic customer service. These are not one-off experiences. Read the reviews. It is obvious that those in charge are either the problem or they don't care to make the changes needed. This is the antithesis of a small town pharmacy helping neighbors. Safeway and their employees could care less about you and me. Don't bother them with your prescriptions as they would rather you take your business elsewhere. read more

We recently ordered our wedding flowers from Kathy at the Safeway in Leavenworth, WA. It was the best experience. She was prompt to always answer the phone or call me back. Was at the store when at the time we agreed upon. She worked extra hard, especially since our wedding was on Mothers Day. What differentiates this Safeway than the hundreds (thousands?) across the country is the Bavarian-esque signage which adorns the store and gas station. Other than that, it seems a little smaller, but carries the same variety of foods as the other Safeway stores would. Stopped her on Memorial Day weekend, and obviously it was chocker-block full and busy. There were only 3 checkouts open (out of at least 6 from what I could tell) so the line ups were kind of nuts. They opened up 1 or 2 more checkouts as I was lined up. Logically/thoughtfully speaking, when you open up a new checkout when it is that busy the employee should have asked the NEXT person in a nearby line to go to the new checkout. Instead, it was like a free for all with people rushing to the newly opened checkout. I was in line to buy 3 apples and a bottle of whiskey but the jerks who rushed to the new line had a full carts of groceries. I would have used the self checkout had they been available - but they haven't arrived to this location yet. It's a Safeway, so it's a dime a dozen unless you are from the west side where they are closing and switching to Haggen's, etc. Their prices are on the higher side (always seem to be), but I will say their produce section is one of the best. The Fuji apples I bought were the best I've ever had, and insanely juicy and crisp. Not sure if that's a byproduct of being displayed in a refrigerated case - most places display apples in their shipping boxes from the orchard. Solid 3 stars. read more

This safeway is adequate, we got a few things from this smallish store, we got gas and most importantly-- I checked our tire pressure with a handy device they have outside. This normally well staffed Safeway had extremely poor customer service today. It ranged from an ice machine that has been out for a while in the deli (with no posted sign) to staff that were less than helpful when asked for help.
