This is a review for the bakery. My daughter and I ordered her wedding cake based on the photos the bakery provided. The cost was only a bit less than the specialty bakery stores, and because we were on a budget, the photos looked very nice, and the staff seemed knowledgable and assured us our cake would look just like they do in the photos, we felt confident ordering from Safeway (about two months in advance). Then came the wedding day. Everything was beautiful, except the cake. It must have been decorated by someone who had never decorated a cake before. Instead of "simple and elegant," as they titled that particular cake design, it was dotted with big round blobs of frosting. Luckily we had extra fresh flowers which we placed strategically on the cake to try to take the focus off the frosting blobs. It helped, but like the movie, we couldn't escape the blobs! My daughter and her husband have great memories of their wedding, and can laugh about their ugly wedding cake. If you're looking for "simple and elegant," or any cake that doesn't look like a toddler decorated it, do not use the Manteca Safeway bakery. read more

I always go to this Safeway because it is close to my apartment but also because I find it the best place to get grocery! However, just now I witnessed a lady who was stocking the meals to go shelves blow her nose with a napkin and go back to stocking the shelves like nothing happened! Instead of washing her hands (no gloves) she was touching all of foods without any health concerns for the customers! Not good! read more

I live 2 exits away, so it's pretty convenient that there's even one around in Manteca. I always get greeted and have excellent service at the cash register. I can always count on this one to be 24 hours, unlike a few other safeways I have gone to in the past. Expected price for this supermarket. Per a review I read that said food isn't fresh they are right. I went to Starbucks inside and my lemon cake was stale. Bought salmon steaks and they didn't look completely fresh. I will still shop here because it's Safeway but food defiantly isn't the freshest. Peope may not like busy store but the turnover of food keeps it fresh. read more

I would have to give a minus 5 star to show just how unprofessional one of the employees were to me tonight. As I was almost done shopping employee Yolanda Hernand came up to me asking if I needed any help. When I replied that I was fine she SAID TO ME "THEN I GUESS YOUR DONE SHOPPING? I said I was almost done but thank you and proceeded to pick up some pre made lasagna. She then grabbed my basket with about seven items and told me that I was done shopping to please follow her to the checkout so she could ring up my items. While walking towards the checkout I then realized what she had been implying all along. And that being she thought that I was going to walk out of the store without paying. This really offended me so bad. To have someone come up to you and accuse or to imply that you were about to steal from this store is so embarrassing you cant imagine. I don't think anyone else noticed but its the point of it all. so I asked at the checkout. Did you actually think I was about to head towards the door and steal seven items? And her answer was well you going that way? I then got a little loud but surely not loud enough and said that I was headed to get the lasagna that goes with the garlic bread that I already had in my basket. Then I proceeded to pay showing her that I had in my pocket well over three hundred dollars. But what even made things so much worse is that she didn't even apologize for accusing me of trying to steal something from her store. Wake up lady and have some respect for your customers. You cant treat people like the way she did. So I went outside called the store on my cell and asked to speak to a manager. When he came out I explained to him that I shop there almost everyday and have never been so humiliated so bad by a safeway employee ever and that she should be spoken to by a boss if not by corporate. read more

I shop here regularly, today when I went to checkout the Cashier "KIMMY" was SO RUDE!!! There was no one in her line and when I approached she was on her cell phone talking with the service clerk, and they told her she had a customer, she just stayed on her phone for another minute. Never acknowledged me, just continued her conversation with the service clerk. Also never a Thank you or anything!!!! It's a good idea they put in the self check outs, when I do or if I go back I will be using those for sure! Sad that A machine interacts with the customer more than an actual person!!SMH.. Although I would like to take away one star because of every time I called, nobody answers. I tried calling on numerous occasions to complement the employees I absolutely love, but nobody answers the phone. That is super annoying. Nonetheless, when I head to Safeway and my cashier is Kimmy I get excited! She is so fun, so nice, and makes the whole annoying process grocery shopping really really awesome. And then if I get lucky enough to pass the produce guy (darn it I need to go ask his name again) then my whole day is complete!!! He's a Hispanic guy and is so friendly and sweet. Positively the best grocery store in Manteca...definitely not the cheapest but not the most expensive...that title belongs to Save Mart Supermarkets...I was happy when they finally remodeled this store from Pak'N Save Foods into a Safeway lifestyle format store...This store is totally upscale and has pretty everything in one place...I love the fact that it has a Starbucks...the deli is of excellent quality...they sell the best American cheese in their deli...reminds me of the free government cheese my grandma would give us when I was little...the bakery is always fresh...I highly recommend the sourdough bread (orgasmic) and the donuts...total perfection! The pharmacy is quick and efficient and staff knowledge and I also like the service seafood and meat depts. So ya as you can tell I love Safeway...I've been a lifelong Safeway shopper...you get good deals with the Safeway club card...hands down this is the nicest grocery store in Manteca...if you want cheap groceries then go next to Walmart but if you want quality then stick with Safeway!! Lifelong Safeway customer. Went on Sunday afternoon. Every line extremely slow and at least 5 people waiting in every line. It looked like the end of the world was coming. Had 1 item and self checkout took about 20-30 minutes. Staff was frustrated and taking it out with rudeness to customers. Self checkout clerk was extremely rude and slow with helping customers. This is the 3rd time in a year that I witnessed that the staff has been extremely rude and lacking basic customer service skills. Their prices have also gone way up. No savings or convenience from Safeway in Manteca. Take your business to Raleys and Save Mart, where the staff is always friendly and fast. I would give them a zero if I could. read more

I went to this location tonight around 545pm. I went in for one thing Salmon! I waited at the meat counter for 20 mins no one to be found! I went to the bakery to get help and I had to yell to even get anyones attention. After 5 mins of yelling a lady came out ask what do you want. Really your giving me attitude cause I need help? I ask the lady is their anyone in the meat department to help me. She called over the loud speaker and the response back over the loud speaker was I'M ON BREAK. Are you serious Management only has one person in the meat department and the bakery. So I the customer has to wait for help cause the management can't schedule right? Why the hell does management only have one person to each department how are your employees suppose to take breaks on time how are your customers suppose to get the help they need?? I just tried to order a cake over the phone and I was told I had to come in and place the order and pay for the cake at the time I order it.... I have never hod to do that at any Safeway bakery ever!! Even worse I work and stay in the bay area during the week and come home on the weekend, so how does that work for me when I need a cake on Saturday...
