I was laughing a bit going through produce because I found several melons I have never even heard of before yet find a few normal every day vegetables was slightly challenging. I will say that I find that Safeway does have quite a few items throughout the store that I have not seen other places. Their coupons and app will save you quite a bit of money but do require you to sit down and mindfully shop before you shop. You can do it all online and many times save more money though I have not done that with this location. This store was a bit disappointing in some ways and that parking lot and store seem a tad worn. The employees do not seem as helpful as other locations also so I was glad that I was mostly able to get it done on my own. read more

I've always had a really great experience at this Safeway location. The staff is friendly and helpful. The shelves are typically well stocked and organized. They have good produce and meat selections. Insider tip: their gas is typically the cheapest in the area. It's a bit on the smaller side but perfect for my needs. read more

DON'T DO "DRIVE UP & GO" Pickup orders. They are rude and disrespectful! Multiple times I've been repremanded for not correctly ordering on the app, when in fact the app would not allow me to make that particular substitution or give the sale price that I should of selected. They don't read the substitution notes that you've told them it doesn't work and to sub only for the sale price. You point that out in their requested chat, and obviously knowing they're the ones who are wrong their rudeness becomes down right nasty and spiteful so they they add it in your order at full price anyway to get back at you. Just moments before telling them not to do it. "I have screen shots" To get a refund for the difference, which last time was $57.66, you wait 7-10 business days for the funds to be released back to your account. This has happened exactly like this several times, not just once! You get treated with rudeness, disrespected, and blamed for their app not working correctly. Instant attitude! Your friendly Safeway Store my ass! This King Rd "P/U and Go" is the worst location- sucks because it's closest to me. I try to do Woodstock, 2nd nearest to home, or 122nd Powell, close to work, as much as I can, when I have time. My lord. It's one thing to be short staffed in your deli, it's another thing to be extremely rude to people because you're stressed due to short being short staffed. This woman named Taylor was absolutely horrible to me, shaking her head, acting out, and saying "she's off, so doesn't have to apologize for long waits or short staff" i spoke to a manger , and she came up to the manger and I and said I WAS rude!? Firstly, yes, I may have shown a bit of disappointment in my tone, gratefully so to be matched with energy rather than some sort of sincerity was very disappointing. I worked for Safeway and job like this requires basic customer service skills, and this was absolutely quite the contrary. Disgusted by my experience with this person, Taylor and will not step back in this Safeway. This type of person should not work the front counter of any place. I moved to Milwaukie 20 years ago and have been shopping at the 42nd and King rd location almost exclusively and have had minimal bad experiences, HOWEVER, today was an exception at Store 2690! They have an employee there named Hillary that is the rudest, most crass, obnoxious person that I have ever dealt with on a customer service level! This isn't the first time she's "gone off the rails" on myself or others, but today was the last straw! I intend on getting ahold of their corporate office (they were not answering their phones probably due to the time difference) but come Monday I will be on it! We only come in for their deals on soda or else we wouldn't shop here at all. I've dealt w two ladies that have had quite the attitude. Today my husband and I came to get some cases of soda, the self checkout cashier and a customer were talking when we walked up to the register, so my husband rang up our case of soda. They said "wait a minute she was using that" but she was standing w the cashier by Starbucks talking to one other associate. She hadn't even rang up anything or looked AT ALL like she was standing in line. My husband politely back off and said sorry and then they explained she hadn't rang anything up so I said "ok she wasn't using it then?" To which she replied "have a nice day" very snarky. Another lady used to follow me and my daughter around watching us and accused my husband of stealing when he walked slightly close to the door to a cooler that had drinks in it. She YELLED at him "sir you have to pay for that" so he yelled back "yes I know I am I was grabbing a drink" I get that people do steal, doesn't give them a right to treat everyone like they steal. They aren't any better than the rest of us so I don't see what the attitude is about. If you don't like your job, don't take it out on the customers. SHEESH! read more

I come to this Safeway almost everyday. I am employed at a Safeway Distribution Plant here in Oregon. I usually swing by this particular Safeway to grab a few things on the way home from work because it's super close to my home. On the weekends, I come here with my husband and son to do the big groceries. We like to go about our business and if we need help, we ask for help. I've had a bad experience with a particular employee named Cameron. Recently I came in after hours on my way home when the self checkout was closed. Cameron was cussing at other employees and pointing his finger past my head at them. Not only was this awkward and uncomfortable, but it was gross because his nails were full of so much dirt. That's disgusting when you're handing people's food. We came in today, Saturday; May 17, 2025, I came in with my husband and son. We did our grocery haul. Cameron was scanning our order. He did not ask if we needed help bagging. The belt was loaded full before I had to run over and bag myself. I tried to rush while he just stood there and didn't offer me any assistance. I then asked if he could "Please help." I hope I don't have to have another negative experience with him. We should feel safe as customer, as well, as being an employee. read more

Rude, overworked, underpaid, and under trained employees at these prices? This location can go to hell in a shopping cart. I came in for two things. Deli meat and deli cheese. The meat is the worst cut I have ever seen. Last time I got soft cheese the pieces all stuck together and it was very difficult to use. I asked the red haired lady at the deli counter(no one wears name tags at this store) if she could put paper between the slices(you know like they used to when cheese was 30% of the price it is now), and she just about blew a head gasket. She said something about "that's not how corporate tells us to do it", made a huge stink but did it anyway. I pointed out to the cashier how crappily the meat was cut and he just shrugged his shoulders. I pointed out that this location has 2 stars and he said "the reviewers are just a bunch of complainers, nobody likes grocery stores". It's a bad situation. Custers are paying the most money they have ever paid for the worst quality they have ever received. The employees are working harder than they have ever worked for the lowest wages(relative to the cost of living) they have ever received. This broken business model just needs to hurry up and finish caving in on its self. Customer service is dead at this location. The only type of business that used to have this many unsatisfied customers was a collection agency. read more

I have been going to this particular Safeway for 26yrs. I came to buy quite a few groceries ,about $200 worth. I also brought a rain check from the Webster store for a deal on ground beef. I had called the day before and asked if they would accept it and they said yes. However when I went to pay for everything they denied the rain check. Two different people came over to make the decision. Very rude and combative. They asked me if I wanted the rest of the groceries without the ground beef and I said no just keep them. Last week was probably the last straw for me with this store. I needed to get four items in the ten minutes before my hair appointment in the same shopping center. Forgetting this is not a good store for that, I find my items and take them to the check out. There isn't clear signage so I am promptly told by an (understandably) annoyed customer that I'm standing in the wrong place. I finally get to the self checkout. I left my basket (they have them now) on the shelf there. I'm almost done checking out and an employee wedges his way in between me and the basket without saying excuse me. I have a processing/movement coordination disorder and this is really jarring for me (even if I didn't it's rude to squeeze in there like that). I told the employee about my movement coordination disorder and he looked at me before walking away and saying nothing. It's not easy for me to talk about this and I got stares but I was really hoping the employee would acknowledge it and apologize instead of being dismissive. I called Safeway corporate. They said someone from the store would contact me and that hasn't happened. While the store is convenient, I refuse to shop somewhere that's dismissive of my needs. read more

Finally, Vic shows up and rudely orders customers to follow him to different checkout location....customers looked at each other because of his tone and facial expressions...obviously put out he had to help out the other two swamped clerks. Seriously, Vic's attitude is indicative of unionized employee that suffers no consequences for his actions. Oh dear. This store has always had its ups and downs, but they're just really struggling right now. Workers standing around talking while long lines pile up that block the walkways. One worker hung out chatting with a guy for a solid 10 minutes blocking the middle of an aisle. He was enjoying wearing his mask as a chin strap and she had hers down to basically her mouth. Close to a dozen other unmasked customers strolling around and 4 other workers with masks below noses. Nope. Going to go elsewhere, at least til omicron calms down. Bakery custom cake fail!!! So disappointed. The person who decorated had better not have a title of "artist", because I could not believe what I saw when they opened the box to show me. I was shocked! I couldn't help but say, "Are you serious? This looks horrible!" The text was thin, air bubble spaces in the lines, wonky, not lined up. The text went downhill. It was not laid out how I'd asked for. I printed a copy of how I wanted it the top to look and it was nothing like it! The "artist" didn't apologize and in fact was surprised that I was annoyed. She wanted to add roses to it. But not only did I trust she'd do a decent job, I didn't have time to wait. I will NEVER ask Safeway to do a custom order EVER again!!! What can you say and do about a grocery store that can't come up with a solution to people walking out with beer? They can't put a security guard and call it good. Nope. This is in pre Corona times. All the staff seem to be trained to ignore customers. They are very good at it and seem to have really paid attention to those instructions. Each interaction seems to prove and suggest this method of customer service. Staff will walk away from a line at the deli counter. Here is my favorite scenario. They wait on a customer finally. Take as long as possible asking questions talking about other possible options what the weather is outside and then the clincher. You are next in line thinking we'll here comes my turn the staff tells you it's time for my break and nobody else comes out of the back to help. You spend the next 5 minutes wondering does any one else work here? That's just a part of the treat here. The meat department seems to have the same ideaology. Ask if there is any other meat in the back they state nope all out. Circle back and you can see someone with a cart of meat filling up spot you just asked about. Checking out is always an adventure. Seems like the customer frustration boils up here. People don't want to give the 6 feet social distance. Here is where they also critique your mask and try to lecture you about how great their mask is and why you should get one also. I guess you attract what you give out. They do have a great produce and vegetable department. My guess is because nobody ever boys this stuff here. It's always full of great selection and plenty of variety. It's where they get the two stars. Shop at your own risk don't be in any kind of rush. Watch out for your fellow patrons they don't care about you they care about the quality of your mask. read more

I am totally done with the Safeway Pharmacy at 42nd & King Rd! They sent me a final reminder for a prescription for my husband, I called them up at 3:15 pm today to let them know I'll pick it up on Tuesday, this crazy, angry woman working in the Pharmacy told me I had thirteen days, and why am I calling her, I don't need to call all I need to do is be able to count! My put-of-pocket for Rx monthly is $580, I am now transferring all my prescriptions to Fred Meyer's! If you want to be treated like dirt, then the King Rd SAFEWAY is the place to go! Unfortunately I think it's time to update my review of the store. The store has gone through many many changes over the past year, losing the management team to other stores in the merger with Albertson's. It is not the same and is borderline un-shoppable at times with the amount of people that I can be in there and something I observed today. I witnessed it to produce clerk's drop a bunch of fruit on the floor, we're talking a whole case of apples. They whisper to each other and pick them up and made a good show of throwing a couple in the box in the bottom of the cart then they proceeded to put the rest out on display with the other food. I asked them "are you supposed to dispose of food hits the floor" and one of them just look at me all wide-eyed like he was caught in and look over his coworker who ignored me. I asked him again he turned around he said no we expect our customers to wash their fruit before they eat it we just feeling to see if they're bruised and then get rid of the ones that are obviously Bruised and put the rest out. I was blown away by this and proceeded to walk out of the produce department around by the bakery. Couple girls in the bakery were talking about something and one of them made the comment that she was so "blanking" pissed off she wanted to punch somebody in the eye. When I checked out I talk to the manager about the produce issue and he seem to want to rush off and go over to the produce department talk to them. As I left I walked by the produce department and I saw them talking in the produce clerk that said he just puts food back on the shelf was even looking the manager thing I really didn't seem to give a crap what the manager was saying to them. If they're gonna put food back on the shelf in front of a customer and then a bit to the customer they normally do that, what are you doing with the food but nobody's watching? Top it off with their meat sales where they advertise buy two get two free and other such deals like that, yet the price per pound on the meet is actually more than double what it is normally. I don't think I will ever buy produce from that store again and may not get meat either, at least not without scrutinizing it in detail. Right after they did the merger with Albertson's I was in there shopping one time and I had a couple of kids with me, as we were looking at the lunch meat and whatnot multiple staff members were creating a soda display and chip display back my neck department and proceeded to start cussing and laughing in their conversation. I did tell him hey knock it off I got kids here, and they all looked at me like they were copper hand the cookie jar but didn't say a word to me, then went back to the conversation. I don't understand what is going on here. We have been here 3 times since moving closer to this area and will likely never come back. Every time we have been astonished by the long lines and rude customer service. I think this store may think no competitor is near so we don't need to worry about our customer service?... I recommend driving a little further as it will likely save yourself time and frustration anyway. My wife and I have been coming to this Safeway for years. We really think that their produce department is as good if not better than any of the competitors. The meat department is hit and miss. We've had wonderful steaks and seafood and other times we've had spoiled steaks and rotten fish. I once bought a pack of smoked pork chops that were 2 months expired. We returned it for a refund which was no problem. The trouble was that a few days later I went back and checked the chops again out of curiosity, and saw that they didn't replace any of the remaining packages. They were all out dated by a long shot. I mentioned this to an employee that was stocking the cooler. We have no complaints about the deli. Everything seems fresh and clean. Same as the bakery. Their fresh baked French bread and jalapeño cheese bread is to die for. The only major complaint we have is the lines. We're tired of hearing the Covid excuse for not having enough manpower. The Safeway on Webster Rd. Doesn't have this problem with their lines. We like coming to the King Rd. Safeway because it's close to home but sometimes we do go out of our way to the other Safeway because of the lines. read more

Safeway is usually pretty good. It's hard to have a lot to say. This safeway is nice, surprisingly small, but they have everything you'd need. They do a decent job maintaining their stock, and their employees are very helpful and friendly. This would have been a three star review since they hadn't "wowed me", but one of their bags broke and an item I had bought for someone broke, they gave me another jar of minced garlic for free, since it was their bag that had broken. I was extremely grateful since this meant I was able to deliver my order on time. read more

This Safeway does have long lines but the staff is nice and helpful. I see other customers complaining and not appreciating the employees that did show up for work and with positive attitudes. Have seen mold on the racks from rotting veggies. All racks need a good scrub Store location is good and busy but the prices seem to flex higher week to week. People are allowed to enter without masks throughout the day and the one way aisles are not enforced. A couple very nice checkers but the overall the energy here is just meh. read more

I like Safeway, and this one is no exception. Clean, bright and well managed, this would be my store of choice if I lived here. They feature wing bar in the deli on Fridays--really tasty fare. The soups and salads are a fine choice, too. There's always a pleasant busyness here--not too crowded and not deserted with only one, line checker. With Haggens going out of business, this will be my go to spot when I fail to pack a lunch. read more

We purchased tickets to an upcoming event since Safeway contracts with ticket west we went there for our tickets to avoid the online fees,an error happened during printing and the paid for tickets wouldn't print, long story short not only did she go above and beyond helping us fix the problem she found a store that could print them for us!! This store is an anchor in the neighborhood, which is quite unfortunate. I say that because: -Their dedicated staff have dwindled over the years, thus; so has the quality of their overall product. -I've purchased past due food several times, which shouldn't happen: especially when you see the amount of staff they have. -The morning is THE WORST: one checker for the entire store. -A large majority of the staff don't care, and it's obvious. -Staff sit right infront of the store to smoke, even though thy have a side area away from the doors for this. read more

The manager here literally walks around yelling at her employees in the front end too, and when she bags she continues to yell while checking out. Maybe you should consider that the people you try to guilt into food bags (I was asked four times!) might need help themselves! This place is awful. I shop at this Safeway at least once a week, and as long as I don't need anything from the cold deli counter, it's typically okay. However EVERY time I go to the deli counter, there are never any associates around to help you, or if they are there, they will blatantly ignore you until you leave. I was standing at the counter today for 5 minutes waiting for someone to come help, and nothing. I go to the hot deli and ask for assistance, and was told she would page someone in a minute. Well several minutes later, and an employee going back and forth to the back (avoiding eye contact with me) a page went out. 5 more minutes pass and I gave up. This has been the third time with the same experience in the past month. Safeway, please talk this department. read more

Now I know why people gave this store a bad review. I should have drove the extra couple miles to a different store. They had something marked at a price and when it was rung up it was 50% more expensive. I confronted them and they would make it right even though the price was something else.
