Pleasantly surprised with both the customer service, selection of products, and clean logical layout of the store. It's gigantic, as are all Safeways, but not nearly as daunting as one of those giant warehouse-like grocery stores that sell in bulk. We popped in here late last nigh for two types of specific breads we get-0an artisan sourdough and double fiber whole wheat, which I love. In a lot of shops, they get sold out by late afternoon, but this location does a good job of keeping stuff in stock because they had both breads we were looking for and my husband was able to get somebody to help him with correct information. We used their self checkout, and their parking lot, btw, super spacious and of course, free :-) read more

There was an old lady that asked for help they told her to change carts but wouldn't help her they where rood to her but would help the Mexican lady lady next to her like the white lady didn't exist. Big supermarket, great selection. The guys who were working the aisles were really nice and helpful. Lines long so we went self checkout. Whoa! The lady there was in scold mode! Anyway, she did help us in the end but not without a tongue lashing. She would do better with a nicer tone. I was checking out at the register and I noticed the manager with glasses embarrassing one of her employees about hours while he was helping out customers. She was being rude to him, and I felt bad for him. There's a time and place for talking about hours, but not when there's customers listening in, and there's a nicer way to talk about hours too. Forgot zero stars....negative stars would be fitting. The shelves are stocked so poorly, so the store is often a mess. The dairy/juice case is always a disaster -- sloppy, disorganized, out of a lot of things. Somehow this store doesn't have the variety of eggs of their other nearby stores. The store is a train wreck. This falls on not just local management but the regional manager who is responsible for the store. This review is on behalf of my husband. He works by the area so he will sometimes go to this Safeway for lunch. I say sometimes because he says it is so busy that he tries not to go there at all. This review is for their food. First, my husband always has to wait because there is no one there. Then, what is up with their portions? I attached 2 pictures, Cupertino Homestead Safeway and this location. Can you see the BIG difference? The Cupertino location gives you a lot more in a much bigger container for $1 CHEAPER. The small portion is perfect for those who do not want to eat a lot but should be much cheaper than the other Safeway locations. The container they give you at this Redwood City location is more of a 1 item container. With that said, my husband said the food quality is good but they need to step up their game and increase their container/portions or cut down the cost. The staff are friendly and helpful - although there needs to be more of them during peak hours. (Not an easy thing to have around here!) They've improved the self-checkout by turning off (or down) the sensitivity of the bagging area, a huge plus. The problem is Sequoia Station itself, which is a dumpster fire. We were in today and saw a customer open a soy sauce bottle, sniff it, taste it, and put it back on the shelf. I called him out on it, but he just laughed. I couldn't find anyone to tell so I pulled the bottle out and left the lid off to make it obvious.) That's not a Safeway problem per se (although having more employees might thwart bad behavior?), but it's something to bear in mind as you do business anywhere in Sequoia Station. Check your lids and seals! :-) The Sequoia Station mixed-use improvement plan can't come soon enough. The place is starting to get down-right dangerous (saw a man wielding a knife at the Safeway entrance), smelly (feces, garbage, weed), and a revolting eye-sore (trash in the parking lot and in some Safeway carts before staff can get to them.) It's hard to separate Safeway from the pitfalls of its location, so I'm doing 3 stars. Maybe she was having an off day, or maybe I was... but since then, my interactions with Tina have been extremely positive. She has been extremely helpful, and has gone out of her way to make sure I was taken care of. And because the Yelp platform is anonymous, she had no way of knowing that the person she was helping in the time between then and now, was the same one who wrote that review. I had actually forgotten about the review I left until I was checking recently, and noticed it. I came in for a second dose of a covid vaccine. The pharmacy folks had the clients line up around an island of the meat department. Some guy from the meat department came out with a rack of meat . The guy very abruptly told us to go line up elsewhere. The people who I was standing next to went to the other side of the aisle, then the guy told us to go elsewhere. Then he places 2 or 3 meat packs on a shelf and leaves a mess of people lined up for a covid shot. What a rubbish way to treat your customers. 1. Stopped by this Safeway location after my ortho appointment, and was pleasantly surprised by how much better it was than my local Safeway. First off, parking is never an issue at this location as it is located right in Sequoia station attached to a large shopping complex. The inside itself is well-lit, clean, floors are clearly marked for social distancing, and all the shelves were really well stocked. They even have quite a large selections of hand sanitizers on-hand as well. What really stood out to me however, was the fact that all the cashiers and associates I encountered were very friendly and polite, instead of randomly yelling at customers and ordering them around like they do at my local Safeway. Only minor gripe I had was that I did not see any hand sanitizers or disinfectant wipes being offered at the entrance. While this is my only time having visited this location as I do not live in the area, I will definitely be using this Safeway more often whenever I'm in RWC! read more

There's nothing bad I have to say about this location. The only quibble I have is with the fresh fruit selection, really. I wish there were more options for fruit, but the quality of the produce they do carry is good overall. The order-made sandwiches are of good quality, especially compared to a national sandwich chain next door that is always unappealing. There's plenty of selection and the staff is great at allowing you to ask for extra produce on the sandwich without it costing you extra. It's only too bad there isn't a frequent buyer program. At $9, it's not an inexpensive sandwich, but it does the job well. I've been shopping at this Safeway for years, and am DONE!! Prior to CV-19 they didn't provide any disinfectant wipes, the plastic bottles were always empty, I shopped there at least 3x a week. CV-19 comes around they start following guidelines of disinfecting carts, plenty of wipes to use while entering/exiting, BUT NO MORE, they have gone Ghetto, disgusting garbage piled up next to the carts. Unsanitary. I have been hit on several times in the store, buy homeless ppl asking for money, one guy walked right up to me, put his face up to my ear, asking for money, Safeway continues to allow the behavior. There was one incident where a homeless woman & deli clerk were arguing & yelling at one another, the deli clerk went after the woman, as though she was ready to fight her, other clerks literally held back the clerk. I actually tried to call corporate to complain about the condition of this place without any luck. This is probably one of the worse Safeway around which is really too bad given the size of the store. It is incredibly troubling going down the aisles of this place. Crazy looking people everywhere, opening stuff, eating from the bins near the produce section. This last time I just had to walk out and promised to never be back. They were out of milk as usual and then I spotted a lady pick out chocolate pretzels with her hands and into a bag after putting her hands in a bunch of other bins to sample. Also during like midday when it is quite busy, that's when they stock the shelves. You can hardly get around or something large is always in the the blocking what you need. It's more stressful than anything coming here. I rather do the extra drive and go to Belmont. read more

This is the fourth time I have purchased meat or tofu from this Safeway that has been either 1) expired and has a horrible smell (ground turkey), 2) extra firm tofu basically breaks down after pressing it into soft, scrambled-egg- like textured tofu (this has happened twice with two different brands on two different shopping trips) and 3) tastes awful after cooking (frozen section salmon fillets). He clearly saw I was using a walker and was struggling with my hand basket but you just laid into me about emptying it out and putting the basket on the floor. Luckily the wonderful lady behind me offered to help me.
