Ruth is a racist. Full stop. She very clearly does not like certain clientelle coming through her store and will do any little thing she can to make them feel unwelcome. As for the store, it's dirty, smelly, and there are flies all around and mold and mildew all over the place. Seriously just look at any of the dairy coolers and you'll find green mold patches everywhere. I've told them about this multiple times and it's never been cleaned. It's unfortunate that it's the only reasonable Asian Market in the area, and they know it, which is why their staff are so rude and the store is so dirty - because they know you'll keep coming. read more

This is a great location with a unique assortment of hot foods! Parking is good even on weekends! Perplexing. The quality of the packaged items like fresh cuts was also excellent. They have a ton of deals and fresh veggies. Nowadays, they also have lots of items packaged with 99 ranch branding such as ramen and even cooking ingredients. The one thing that stood out negatively to me though was the sheer amount of rust showing from those fridges and freezers. That put me off of wanting to buy those items from the freezers. If I didn't have to come here I wouldn't. The staff are consistently rude and pushy. I just asked for bags for my purchase and the cashier didn't bother to bag half my items. Please do your job so I don't have to after a long day. Customers are usually equally rude. The yellow onions are always rotten and they don't have a great meat selection. The best kinds of meat are never here. Good for vegetables and other things you must have from an Asian market when you don't feel like driving out. Yesterday, I went shopping at 99 Ranch Market. As I was exiting the store, an employee at the entrance stopped me and asked, "Did you pay?" I replied, "Yes," and continued walking. Suddenly, he shouted loudly behind me, calling me back and insisting on checking my receipt. What shocked me was that he only stopped me -- he did not check any other customers. I asked him, "Why are you checking only me and not others? Why are you suspecting me?" He said nothing and proceeded to check every single item against the receipt, taking nearly a full minute, before finally letting me go. This experience made me feel extremely humiliated and angry. I am not a thief, yet I was treated like one. The employee claimed it was "part of his job," but I cannot accept being singled out and treated with suspicion without any explanation or cause. As a paying customer, being stopped, questioned, and investigated in this way -- with no clear reason -- felt like a violation of my dignity. I believe the employee's actions were inappropriate. I would like to know: * Was his behavior legal and justified? * Does the store allow employees to randomly and selectively stop customers like this? * Can I file a formal complaint to hold him accountable for his actions? Do not like their checkout lines because there's barely enough room to get items out of our shopping carts to put on to the conveyor belt. Good collection of daily grocery products. One major weakness is in the quality of their packaged products. It been more than once that I bought their packaged products and only after bringing it home did I find that they were moldy or rancid. Eg I just bought a bag of their dried chestnuts. The entranceway is pretty narrow and there are often items on sale placed in that area beyond the cash registers. The hot deli has a seating area, which is nice. Coupons are cross-compatible with other Peninsula/South Bay 99 Ranch stores, but for some bizarre reason, this specific store requires $30 minimum rather than the $20 at every other store. 3.5 stars read more

I've tried vegetarian and vegan eat habits before. Unfortunately, I'm not as healthy afterwards, even with dietician and other advice. I've been to these styles of grocery stores for four decades, and this one in particular twice a month for quite a while. The way fish are treated at Ranch 99 locations and similar is considered animal cruelty in this century. If you've never been to their seafood department, but you have been to an aquarium or have a fish tank of your own, it's actually a horrifying experience. While fish in the wild typically group in schools or shoals, and they will argue that the number of fish per square foot is the same as in the ocean, the ocean is billions of square feet, while your fish tanks are the size of human coffins. Imagine 500 fish in your coffin --- all trying to swim around at once. read more

It was so difficult to shop at this Ranch 99 in my opinion...! First and foremost the lights were just so dim and it was difficult to actually see items on the shelves! Secondly there was merchandise in the middle of nearly every aisle which were already cramped to begin with. It was pretty clear that there was more merchandise than a store of this size should have had which really affected the flow through the store. Still, even with all the extra stuff everywhere, I felt like variety was sorely lacking at this location. I couldn't locate many items that I usually find with ease at my normal go to Ranch 99. Visited for the first time a couple of days ago around mid-day. Unusual location (in a small shopping area connected to a housing development). Appeared much cleaner than most 99 Ranches, but because of the smaller size, there are significantly fewer products (though they had some that I haven't seen at other locations). Very compact check out area, with no space if you wanted to walk around to the front of your cart to unload. Cashier wasn't particularly friendly, there weren't a ton of customers inside, and no problem with parking. Overall, a good first impression because of the neatness and cleanliness of the store, but not sure I would seek it out again. read more

I'm not a regular customer of Ranch 99, but I was in the area so I decided to visit the Foster City store and see what's it like. There wasn't a line to get in, so I put on my mask and went in. Very nice! It's a large and spacious supermarket, stocked with Asian goods. Hot food Section, seafood, Produce, big aisles.....just like a modern Safeway. Just don't expect social distancing in this store. If I lived out in the suburbs, Ranch 99 would be a great place to get a variety of Asian foods and products under one roof. I personally, live near Oakland Chinatown, so that's where I go. read more

This location is a real pain in the arse to get to and I always find myself getting lost or not exiting quickly enough into Foster City. Once you get to the center, the actual store is pretty nice. They have a cleaning station outside where the carts are do you can DIY clean your own baskets and carts. This 99 Ranch has a good selection of fresh veggies! The meat section is small and it seems like they only have pre sliced hot pot meats. The seafood section is also smaller than other 99 Ranch's I've been to. I mainly come here for the veggies and some center of store goods. When you check out depending on how much you spend they give you free $ coupons to spend in their deli section. I spent $42 last trip and only got $2 in coupons lol but do yourself a favor next time and buy the Danish Toast with Crisp.... you won't regret it!! It's so incredibly delicious -- almost like a chewy mochi texture with a hint of sweetness. I love to eat it as my morning toast because it requires no butter or sweeteners. read more

Went to buy crab. I wanted a 3 large crabs and a mexican guy brought out 3 crabs from the back. I wanted to make sure the crabs were alive and had all the legs. So I touched one crab to make sure they had all their legs. The guy said don't touch which I complied. I told him I wanted to make sure all the crabs were decent size, alive and had all the legs. This is a pretty decently sized 99 Ranch. The produce area can feel a little bit crowded at times I'd there are too many people though. But their produce is pretty decent. I used to buy my oranges here and I was generally satisfied. Their meat also seems reasonably priced. Obviously you come here for Asian groceries so we buy a few staples like bags of rice, sauces and curries here primarily. They also have a bakery where they have some buns. I like their pineapple buns here. They also sell a lot of desserts (boba ice cream bars) and snacks (salted salmon skin etc). I also buy drinks like my chocolate soy milk cartons here. They also sell a ton of instant noodles here. Parking lot is pretty big and it's usually not a problem to find any parking. read more

It's a massive Asian market chain with a big fish, snacks, and bakery section. The produce corner is particularly varied I appreciate the large selection. They carry my beloved corn ice cream, though it's insanely overpriced. I paid ten dollars for a tub. So I very sparingly eat this vice. Overall, a good varied market I found pandan and fresh ube too. Think my honeymoon period with this specific location is over. Lets start with the parking lot, it's a madhouse. I have a thing for tranquil parking lots, this isn't it. People are going to the UPS store, bank, Round Table Pizza, restaurants and 99 Ranch. Since COVID, shopping hear hasn't been positive. They didn't count the number of people going inside. Shoppers didn't maintain distance and tons of boxes on the floors making it super hard to get around. I actually had a mini panic attack and asked my husband for the keys to the car. I shop here regularly to get groceries once or twice each month. I typically, check their weekly ad online before going, but they will have them by the entrance next to a big bottle of hand sanitizer. In addition, there is a paper towel roll and spray bottle to wipe down a cart (diy) before you go in. Weekends are usually the busiest time to go especially in the evening (4-5pm) or around lunch time (12-1pm). You'll find most of the weekly sale items at the ends of each aisle and sometimes by the entrance. Customer service is not bad. I am always looking for a new sauce/seasoning and the guy stocking the aisle is very helpful. The cashiers on the other hand depends. Sometimes they are friendly and other times so-so. I really like the variety of veggies and product they have. I was able to find all the seasoning and spices to make beef and chicken pho at home. They have so many noodle options like fresh chow fun, udon, egg noodles, and more. Also I have been able to satisfy my hot pot cravings since the weather has been getting colder. The raw meat section has high quality products. I love purchasing their chicken wings since they are larger than wings I've bought from other groceries. Their beef tripe is also cleaned well. Occasionally you'll see soju or frozen dumplings on sale which are good finds too. Also the tea selection is great. I have accumulated so many varieties to brew my own hot/milk tea at home. Overall, great variety and good deals weekly. And every $15 you spend you get a $1 food coupon you can use in the bakery/hot food/deli area. They can even be used on frozen dim sum like steamed pork buns and lotus wrapped sticky rice. I would rate the food in the bakery/hot food/deli area 3/5 for taste. They have done a really good job at keeping the order, getting the lines for entering, offering lots of sanitizer everywhere, and very well stocked shelves. In fact, it was a joy to shop with basically 3 people in the store at 6pm on a Monday, amazing! One of my favorite things that I found only 99 ranch seems to sell, are these homemade or 99 ranch made fish balls with roe. The green speckled ones are SUPERB. absolutely recommend getting them if you're into fish ball esp in your hot pot! Aside from flour they even had a ton of rice and other basic staples in stock. The only thing perhaps they should think about changing is that all the registers are open, but even if people stand 6 ft apart in line, they can't stand 6 ft apart when checking out because the check out lines are back to back where the checker is ... aside from that A+ read more
