I had clipped the digital coupon for Hagen Daz ice cream, which was $2.99, half the normal price. But they only had a limited amount of the flavor my wife likes, so I was only able to get 4. The next day, I had to go to the bank, so I decided to go and see if they had stocked any more of it, which they had. When I got to the checkout, I was charged full price. I asked why I wasn't getting the digital price and was told that it could only be used once. I asked to see the policy that stated that because there is nothing in their weekly ad that states that. Of course she couldn't. I also bought Yoplait yogurt which was on sale for 39 cents if you buy at least 10. I bought 12 but was charged full price for two of them. Again, I asked why I was being charged full price for two of them and was told there is a limit of 10 at the sale price, although there is no sign that says that. So, I didn't buy the ice cream or the two additional yogurts. Although we live about a mile from Safeway, we drive to South Salinas to do our major grocery shopping because Safeway is so poorly run. Not only do you have to load your groceries on the conveyor belt, most of the time you have to bag them as well. At Nob Hill, they do everything for you. In fact, they'll even take them to your car for you. I consider Safeway like a 7-11, just to get no more than a few items when we run out before we go shopping again. read more

I purchased deli meat and my family didn't like it. I went to return it after seven days and was told that the guy would not refund it just because we didn't like it?! I told him I had been shopping with Safeway for 50 years and have never seen denied a refund. Safeways return policy says refunds up to two weeks on anything that is not satisfying a customer. He said you could talk to the manager and it's going to be the same. I asked for my receipt and product and went to shop. The power went out and everyone was confused, no one on speaker with any kind of communication as to what to do. I thought about switching out the product, but that's not in my nature. I left as the check out was taking unusually long. I looked like a bag lady because I had to feed horses before I went in. I wondered if that's why he treated me so deplorably and the tone he used. I tried several times to call customer service, when a man answered. He was difficult to understand but his nasty demeanor came through. He repeatedly made the same statement towards me and when I tried to explain he cut me off. I asked for his name and he refused to give it to me. Then he accused me of attacking his employee and I just had to hang up! I was so shook! When I worked in Carmel I took care of many Safeway employees, and the stores have good people working . Everyday I strive to meet my protein goals and instead of eating out, I decided to make my own protein tacos. Quick, easy, efficient, filling and healthy as possible. I got one of their Open Nature Roasted Chickens, some mission plan based tortillas and a some baked potatoes. Added some tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers and mushrooms (just the right amount of dig) I try to keep my protein intake at 370 Fats about 85 Carbs around 180 Those numbers in a day to make myself fuller. Their roasted chicken alone by itself is truthfully enough, to get your protein but wanted to add some veggies to it. I can't say anything about the service, since i did self checkout. Problem, I bought an item discounted significantly with club card. it didn't read the number properly, the cashier said see the desk, the desk told me they were done for the day eat it. Supervisor Ramon had the cart girl responsible for opening up the baby milk for the kids not very good choice to let Ramona in charge. Definitely will not come back here ever again. My mom bought bread for bagels from this location. There was two days left till the expiration date and we found the bread covered in dead ants on the inside and outside of the bread. We brought it to the bakery counter, not for a refund, but to inform the workers that this issue happened so it does not reoccur. I thought Id give Safeway another shot by placing another order for pick up. Simple order, only 6 items. I get an email notifying me that my order was a bit delayed, ok no problem. After waiting, Im notified that my order is ready. I drive to the store, input my parking space number and an associate comes out 15 minutes later to advise me that they gave my order to somebody else. Fantastic! read more

The dairy aisle (aisle 5) has mold growing everywhere inside the cooler. Also, moldy stench when doors are opened. So unhealthy for safeway customers. DISGUSTING! Dairy and store manager should have caught this a long time ago if they were doing their job. It's very visible, not that hard to miss. This Safeway is trash. Everything is overpriced even with your club card. $9 for 3 tomatoes when you can get them cheaper elsewhere. Never any shopping carts and the parking lot is sketch at night. Always a bunch of homeless in the parking lot or in front of the store. Also, every time I buy flowers from here they die the next day. I bought 3 dozens of flowers and they always just die. Love this location! Very clean, well organized, efficient. I'm a nurse at Natividad and have to run in here often to pick up snacks or dinner before my shift. I'm writing this review in the heat of COVID 19 and just want to give a shoutout to Max, the kind and professional barista who happily made my drink (a peppermint mocha my favorite which is usually only seasonal). It's going to sound so first world problem but I was so tired going in to work today, so over all the stress that comes with this season and his cheerful demeanor and willingness to make exactly what I needed just made my day. This is just one of the many positive experiences I've had here. Not just because it's convenient for me, you have an excellent staff and Max should get a raise! We went to this Safeway around 230 on Saturday 8/31 got two bags of chips they have a good selection of them and some where on sale,and a jar of pickled jalapeños. Also. Picked up some almond milk that was supposed to be on sale. We went to the self checkout. All were available. As we scanned the items they were no ringing up at the sale price. So we pushed the help button. An employee was standing two of the self checkout registers next to us putting paper bags on the side of the register. All she did was look at us and continue to put the bags away, ignoring that we needed help even though we said that it's not ringing up, she ignored us And the flashing button that we need help. There was another guy that needed help too, and she ignored him and continue just to put bags on the side of the registers so we just grabbed all our stuff and went to the the register that an employee was checking people out that was 15 or less items this had a line. This register line got longer after we got in it. They only had one other register open that was down a ways and it had a Kinda big line Employee at self check out ignore the flashing and kept messing with the paper bags. That is the reason for a lower stars. read more

Well, i find a lot of the staff good. Over the years I've made some nice acquaintances. Selection has been good, requests for new items accommodated; i asked for goat yogurt of all things and now it's there. And speaking of which, this store can be good for a healthy diet: There's a small selection of organic FRESH foods, and even though they're slightly more expensive - as they are everywhere by the way - you can still get many of the fruits and vegetables you put in your body that are certified organic. Plus there's grass fed ground beef, if you eat beef. And of all the packaged stuff that's been around And we all know about. But now the bad news: In the produce department don't expect to know what stuff is going to cost all the time because there's a lot of missing labels for some reason. Maybe it's because I shop late and they get knocked off during the day? I don't know, but it's a very common problem in produce and need's addressing; plenty of people shop later and would agree. Next is Safeway brand fresh bakery. I guess I can just make it simple: don't get anything, buy a major brand. Anything with sugar in it is going to be so sweet, you're literally going to have to either throw it away or get indigestion from it, and that I'm not exaggerating. If you love fresh baked cookies and pies and stuff like that you're gonna love the first bite but you're going to regret having bought it at an attractive "apparent" discount from the major brand. For example you can get a huge pumpkin pie, for a lot less than half the price of a small one by some outside bakery. But if you can't eat the pie because it taste like sugar, and the smaller one's delicious how are you ahead? Just don't be fooled by the cheap bakery prices the stuff is awful, trust me spend a few bucks more and get something good. (and if you need a cake for adults go to a bakery, Safeway just doesn't get it. And hasn't for the 12 years I've been shopping there so they're not gonna get any better, go to a bakery or get something from a bakery or the isles that says something like "Pepperidge Farms" on it, You know what I mean. If you get a good brand and it cost more you'll probably eat less of the bad stuff too, right? (I.E.: Grommet cookies n pie, You'll stop where you're supposed to ;) ) read more

We always use to go to do our late night shopping at this Safeway in constitution since it's open until 2 am seven days a week. We'll apparently for the last several months they been short staff... and the store now closes at 12:00 or 12:30 am. always the same excuse with the weird hours they close. They should change the posting to read the current and correct closing time, not just make false advertising or maybe consider hiring more staff. Also the bakery is not good, not the first time I see a fly flying around the donuts behind the glass. read more

I have lost all hope with the Safeway's in Monterey Co. N. Main bakery ruin my grandson's first birthday cake and his three-year-old birthday cake. The frosting fell off on the first one and on the second one they spelled his name wrong they didn't finish the border and the cake was so dry no one even ate it. So I went to the bakery on Constitution. Ran in real quick to buy French bread which they said it be hot and ready which it wasn't. I walk to the bakery grabbed a French bread brought it to the dinner party I was going to I open the bag and this is what I got...... how do you take it out of the pan noticed seen half the bread was stuck to the pan and still put it in a bag and give it to your customers? I was so embarrassed it look like I had eaten the bottom of the bread even though the bag was sealed!!! I'm so disappointed with the bakeries at Safeway!! I need to find a new place that actually cares about their customers!!! read more

I like this Safeway. The store isn't too big, which I like. I don't want to hike all over a huge grocery store when I only need a few things. They've got a Starbucks inside and a gas station in the parking lot. Their service deli is top notch. I placed a very large order of fried chicken for an event, and they had everything hot and ready when I wanted to pick up. I was totally impressed. They have a nice selection a Latin foods, which is a must in Salinas. I even stocked up on a few things that I can't always find in my local Vons. read more

This is the worst safeway from before the Corona hit. They posted hours they were open and could not even stick to them because the managers wanted to close early. So they did and just locked the doors. When you are 100 miles away from home and you go to a store because where you live they are good. Think again when in this area. This is about hospitality. I went there during a medical emergency while I was suffering from an illness. I was practically bent over the registration and the women who was the cashier not caring that I was in pain talked so sickly about me to the person she was cashing out that I was astonished. We have a 6ft rule I get that. I was at the end of the belt and I was literally bent over. Instead of caring and being kind, she talked about me like a high schooler teasing a nerd. Constitution Safeway is a great place to shop. The prices are fair. There's always a variety of items on sale. The store is clean and well organized. I get a discount at the gas station, which is nearby. There is plenty of parking available, and the lot is spacious. There is a side room where the pharmacist can give vaccinations privately. The butchers are knowledgeable and helpful, ready to assist with a selection when asked. The staff is friendly. Several know me personally and call me by name or simply offer a friendly greeting. The people remind me of where I was raised and make me feel like I'm part of this community now. read more

They carry La Rosa masa and tortillas (local baker.y) I went in this morning and they were SOLD OUT . Fortunately the meat Dept manager Gus was able to reorder from the bakery and contacted me 2 hours later. read more
