For YEARS foodmaxx had been my family's go to grocery store but lately its been a let down. It was always really convenient knowing I had a grocery store nearby where I could I go pick something up really quick that I might've forgotten but that's not the case anymore. A store trip that used to take five minutes now takes more than twenty minutes because they can't seem to have more than two registers open. It's reached a point where I would rather go to a different further location simply to avoid the ridiculously long and crowded lines that form at foodmaxx. Please open more registers and also encourage your employees to pick up the pace and perhaps not be under the influence on the job. Completely irritating to be waiting in a long ass line because of the lack of open registers but then seeing that the cashier is lit and is having extremely long bullshit conversations with every single person and taking longer. And no it's not just her being friendly. read more

If it wasnt for the friendly service i would have given this place 0 stars. Ive bought a rotisserie chicken, it claims "ready to eat" but as soon as i took a wing off the chicken was still pink on the inside and the bone was still bloody. Service is horrible at this store. I went there on Friday May 31, 2024. There were only two cash registers open and about 30 people waiting to chelo out . I asked to speak to the manager to see if they could open more registers. The manager was one of te cashiers . He told me he didn't have any more staff. Instead of being upset , I fell sorry for the guy having to deal with complaints from people like me and not having enough staff for proper customer service . I've been coming here for years on & off besides the comparison to Safeway or Riley's because they Usually have everything on a normal day if not it's because it was an obvious sale hit even around the holidays. I do like the fact most of the place is clean, and cold.. This location is like a Walmart the lines go in two random different check stands but you eventually get out plus the 'less than #' stand but I'm talking about a cart full for a dinner prep. This grocery store has been in Salinas for a very long time... my brother even worked in the meat department at one point... some of the employees are OK, BUT THE MANAGER (the older one that's been there for several yrs, she's a little short and wears glasses... wow, the super bad attitude on this lady is beyond... almost evil, she once suspected someone of stealing but she was wrong! before she found out she was wrong i overhead her say "if only this was an open carry state" - what's that's supposed to mean? that she would shoot this person? i have also heard this manager treat her employees really bad and most dislike her. wow, this person needs to be terminated immediately! read more

With all the Food Maxx "lowest price guatanteed" ads flying around, I decided to try giving them a shot on my last grocery excursion. Never again. The layout of the store is...odd. Granted, it might make more sense if I shopped there more, but I much prefer less of the warehouse feel. Selection of items is rather limited & they didn't even carry several items I was looking for (the specific brands/flavors). Target, Walmart & even Safeway have better prices on several of my preferred items. The meat & fish areas are rather jumbled, with items intermixed. The worst part was the checkout. The customer in front of me was still bagging (and blocking traffic) when the cashier was done ringing me up. So the whole line had to wait. Then, I had to walk around to the other side to begin bagging my groceries--they have an odd "two-lane" conveyor. And of course I couldn't position myself & cart in a way that wasn't in the way of someone else. So, upshot is: poor selection, not the lowest price on many items, disorganized meat/fish displays, and an aggravating checkout system. read more

This is the place to buy groceries! Not to fancy, but it is always clean, well stocked and affordable. Be careful when checking out thought. Sometimes, the advertised price on the shelf is not the same on their system witch is usually higher. If you don't notice you will go home thinking you got a great deal but, oh surprise when you find out you paid the regular price. read more

This place does have really good prices, and it's a really clean store. But if you go at the wrong time during the day you will find pallets of product blocking your bath. It seems every time I go the cashier never says "hi" and some times doesn't even acknowledge I exist. Some times I have to see what they are charging me because they are to distracted by another employee. read more

Food Maxx in Salinas is my store, good location, pleasant staff, wide range of products and selections, and comparable prices. I shop here weekly, often two or three times. However, two areas I am NOT comfortable: The store manager's attitude is not positive when I approach him with the questions or complaints. He tries to avoid my questions. That is NOT a good leadership role. A leader communicates with the customers no matter what it is; next complaint is when I see the reduced price, for example, was $2.99, now $1.99. I expect to be charged a reduced price instead still charged the regular price. One day, after paying the total grocery bill over $200.00. I checked the receipt, the four items still charged the regular price otherwise I could save about $10.00. So, with my receipt and shopping cart (all my grocery bags) went to the customer services window. I asked her to talk to the store manager, her supervisor. All arrived. I told them, this is NOT acceptable business practice. The Interface must work. The store manager did not understand the INTERFACE. So, I educated him, it means, when this store, or your main headquarter change the price, a new price must enter into main computer frame, reflecting was $2.99, now $1.99. If people and computer does not work together, then, it's useless. Interface defines, people and designed system, computer. Further, I told them, this was not the first time, it happened many times. I was not the only one, fellow customers told me they were still charged the old price. In legal sense, it's a deception, ripping off the customers. Pretending the prices reduced, yet still charging the old price. it could add up to thousands dollars. The store manage was not happy what I was explaining to him. I was telling the facts and truth. Last week, I went to Food Maxx, one particular item marked to $.99, from 1.99. After paying the bill, checked it, still charged $1.99. I called upon the store manager. This time he personally went to the aisle, checked the price, came back, "Mr. Park, I am sorry, I don't know why it still charged you." Again, I told him, INTERFACE. He returned the difference. I DO believe, Food Maxx, all sisters stores are over charging their customers. It adds up, $.99 x 2,000 customers. Two years ago, I kept all the receipts, I was over charged, over $40.00. I was contemplating to prepare a WRIT, to challenging the Food Maxx, I was so busy with my grandkids, home, school, all activities I was responsible. I did NOT pursue it. read more

As a disabled person, grocery shopping is a difficult task, even burdensome. Yesterday, 8/11, I went to FoodMaxx to do my shopping for the week or so. I could not locate an electric cart so my shopping would be easier, so I took off with my push cart and headed to produce. I am not supposed to walk much but I was not going to go down in defeat just because of not being able to find an electric cart. By the time I reached checkout, I was tired and quite sore form walking all over. I asked the checkout girl if some help would be available because I was disabled and it may take me 30 minutes to bag my own groceries. She said yes and paged for assistance. The girl who came to help, besides being very pretty, was so kind and helpful. I am sorry I did not remember her name, but she had a flag tattoo on her right arm. Anyway, I said I could take it from here to my car, but she insisted she wanted to help me. We had such a great little conversation to the car and she gently put all my bags, 10 in all, in the back of my SUV. She was a real pleasant few minutes in my day and I appreciated her so much. What a wonderful attitude and personality. And what a terrific ambassador for FoodMaxx. This young lady gave me a fresh outlook on my day and brought a little joy to my heart. It was a real pleasure to have her help me in my moments of trial. Also, I asked the checkout girl about the electric carts and she did inform me that they were not kept by the office and all I had to do is ask any clerk for one and they would see I got one to use. What a great day of grocery shopping I had at FoodMaxx yesterday. Makes me feel low prices are just the beginning of a pleasurable shopping experience, because customer service means more to me and will bring me back again. My heartfelt thanks to this young girl not only for helping me, but for showing me her terrific personality and bringing a big smile to my old heart.
